Today, I'm back to having appointments again.
I've got Day 1 of a root canal.
She is going to start the root canal, and then let me know if she figures the tooth is worth saving or not. If it is not, she will pack it up and I'll have it removed under a general by my dental surgeon.
She doesn't know that.
She thinks she'll just go ahead and remove it. She'll be informed differently when I get to that point. I am NOT going through the horror of another tooth removal like the one I had a year ago. No. Nope. Not happening.
I'm actually not looking forward to the root canal if it happens either because for some reason dentists seem unable to "freeze" me properly anymore. I've been to dentists who can do it, and I nodded off briefly in the middle of my first root canal because it was completely painless.
Unfortunately I seem to have developed an allergy to the adrenaline they include with the anaesthetic which makes the anaesthetic less effective, so they have to use twice as much anaesthetic ... but even so, they don't seem to be able to hit the right nerves. OK granted, the roots of my teeth are embedded in my jaw, but still ...
Fingers crossed this goes OK.

Beth Yep, I do get that, but Little Meltdown Man's Mom not only did Kelly a disservice, she did her sons a disservice by not being forthcoming. I feel certain she is at her wits end and feels desperate. I have great empathy for her.

I wasn't defending Meltdown Man's Mom ... it was wrong not to be honest about something so signifiant. But I was trying to understand why she might do such a thing ...

NYKaren ... it's going to be horrible driving in NY this weekend! Be safe!
Meetings went very well for my older son and he actually got excited about some of the changes coming his way. His place has been extensively renovated and made not only safer/healthier, but beautiful as well. We weren't expecting that! And many of the things he thought he might lose like upgraded cable and wifi will be included in his new "inclusive rent." I'm beginning to feel better about this.
My 90 yr old dad was released from the hospital today. He's dealing with surgery pain and some hip arthritis that has flared up, but now he can rest and hopefully heal.
We are preparing for our first really major storm beginning Saturday so need to make the obligatory run to the grocery store tomorrow. I was hoping my imperfect vegetable box would be here today as ordered so I could plan my shopping accordingly, but it's apparently not coming until tomorrow. Might have to change my shipping day if this is a normal occurrence.
My eating has become more controlled and the scale is moving in the right direction. Hoping to maintain the loss and continue the trend.

Ah, KJ, I completely understand. There were 3 in my house with 3 different kinds of ADD and 3 of my nephews. It is a challenge. It is a full time job to get them through school and be their advocate against the world. My sons and husband made me a better educator. And I still want to take my one son’s bachelor’s degree to the HS counselor who tried to belittle me and said I should not have such high standards for someone who would never go to college. Struggling and without help, my husband became an anesthesiologist. Just hold them tight and love them through it!

Dear doggie spent the day at the vet's getting spayed. She came home sleepy and in a collar. She is having a hard time figuring that thing out. The hardest thing will be keeping her relatively quiet for the next two weeks until the stitches come out. No running in the pasture but only walking on a leash.
Tomorrow I take DH to the cancer center for education on the new drug, labs and to talk about financial aid. All of that plus travel time will take about 4 hours and have me coming home in rush hour traffic. Yuck! Monday he has an MRI and next Wednesday he meets with the doctor and starts the new drug, a 1 hour infusion. We have heard good things about this drug so hope it goes well.
KJ - You are awesome.
Rori - Happy anniversary and birthday!
Lisa - Glad your retreat went well.
Barbie - Glad Jake's appointment went well.

Hi Gals,
Tracey – We have Michael’s Crafts, Hobby Lobby and JoAnn’s fabric and crafts all within a 2 block radius and even with competition Michael’s has horrible customer service
Viv – do you think you could get a friend to do the clean up with you? You could hold her to a high standard and she could hold you to the same standard?
Machka – those shoes are cute!
Cari’s questions
If you were to send a thank you note to someone, whom would you thank? My counselor who is there when ever I need her and always helps find a way to cope
Who is a good friend to you? Lynne
What small thing did you do recently, that made someone very happy? I’m fixing dinner tomorrow for a friend and her family – I’ll put it in the fridge while she’s at work and she’ll come home to just a “warm it up” job
Okie – OMG I can’t imagine wearing those shoes!!!
Karen in Virginia AKA Grumpy Granny - You have to post (with his permission ) the essay he writes to get off the hook for writing the essay!
Kelly – you have your hands full! ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))

Only up to pg 53 and falling asleep but asking opinions.
Want to get a fitness tracker to build up to 120 heart rate for 15-30 mins daily (thank you Dr. Dougie Hauser).
I'd also like it to track calories burned and sync with mfp and my phone (less important as the next phone won't be an iphone).
Experiences, recommendations, cautions, concerns, comments please?
Many thanks,Lighter, lovelies!

Our youngest grandchild, Olivia, is growing up way too quickly, don't they all? She will turn five in April. Our grandkids will then range in age from 5 to 25.
Not much new going on. I'm continuing with my low carb/high protein eating and daily exercise. My oldest daughter, that lives in Denver, will come to visit next month. She will be taking a trip to Rome in April.
Love you my friends

My husband gave me a Fitbit Track 3 for Christmas. I love it. It has all the functions you mentioned plus many more. I don't have an iPhone either, its a Samsung, MFP and Fitbit track with it.

Machka- ask the dentist to.use carbocaine instead of the others this doesn't have the epinephrine in it that gets you jittery..how that helps.
I spoke with our office manager yesterday and I guess the new Dr has it out for her and one of the assistants..we all love her but he is mean an cruel to her..he has her working 56 hrs a week on salary and is gruff and rude to her..the assistant was hired as she worked part time for us before and he wanted to be open all the hours and has found out that it's not going to work that way so he is ticked he is paying an assistant that they dont really need.she left another place to come work for us and I hope he wont be nasty and let her go..
One good thing is he does.like.me..so that's good..but really dont need anymore upheaval in my life..

I'm not sure what my dentist used, but it didn't have any adrenaline in it.
Before the appointment, I took a valium because I was so stressed about it all. Then after she gave me the "freezing". It still didn't numb everything so she went with nitrous oxide.
That's the first time I have had nitrous oxide for dental work!
Between it and the valium, I was m-e-l-l-o-w by the end of the appointment.
I had told my husband that he didn't need to come to the appointment, but he decided to walk there anyway, and was there through it all. It was probably a good thing because he was able to take me home ... by bus. The bus stops at a little grocery store near where we live so we picked up some ice cream, and then walked the rest of the way home.
By the time we got home, I was ready to lie down. I slept for 1.5 hours. I still feel a little bit out of it now, but better than being traumatised by the pain.

Hopefully this will work ... this is my Cadbury Marathon video of me coming across the finish line. It's about 1 minute.
There's a purple into, then you see a child followed by someone in blue shorts. Both of those were in the 5K (they've got red numbers) ........ and then me in a blue top and black knickers (with a yellow number) doing an odd limping jog. My right leg was killing me!!
Then there's a pause while the camera angle changes, and I'm coming across the line again. My right leg didn't have the strength to try to keep in front of the lady overtaking me on the line.

I missed why Felicia is worried about her husband. Could you enlighten me F????
DH still feeling c..p. I slept better and, although I have a deep cough, I don't feel bad in myself. I did my exercises .
My cancer friend emailed all her friends to say she feels upset she isn't seeing people now we aren't going to the hospital with her for the chemo. Today is her birthday and I was going up there for a tea and cake party, which she has cancelled. That's basically why I didn't make other arrangements. She is nearing the end, so probably didn't feel up to it, but I'm sure that's why people haven't made the effort. Oh well. I feel, at her stage, she is entitled to expect more support. I can't imagine how it must be for her, living alone. She has family nearby, but it's not the same.
Don't want to give her my bug, so will go up when I'm not infectious.
Have other friends I need to communicate with. Been busy recently and determined to get my writing done daily.
In fact, must do it now! :noway:

There were several photographers along the way, so this is one of the photos. It's at about 18 km into the run. My legs had decided they had enough and I'd started to walk. Then I looked up and saw the photographer in the distance so I started slowly jogging again.
(Yeah, I've put on a bit of weight last year. I wasn't focusing on diet. Hopefully I'll be able to take it off this year.)

Janet - Olivia is soo cute!!
I'm feeling better this morning. I think I will avoid caffeine again today to be sure.
On shoes, to be fair, if I was walking a mile to the bus or to work like Machka, I too would wear different shoes. The heels have been dubbed the Kids Wedding Shoes. I bought them for my best friends daughters wedding and then wore them again to the kid's wedding....hence the name. Now the pressure is on to wear them when the other 4 (eventually) get married. Luckily gold is a neutral so it will be easy. I only wear heels for weddings these days. I had the jobs in the past where we had to wear heels and hose every day. Don't miss those days at all. As for flats, I wear them all the time. I find the pointy toe ones very comfortable and can walk around shopping in them all day.

Good morning ladies, it is snowing heavily in Liverpool, the really thick white stuff. We very rarely get this here as we are sheltered by Pennines and Irish Sea. Looks nice but I had plans to go out today, never mind.
Have been watching docuseries Live Longer Feel Better great stuff, sorry I can't remember who gave the link.
Re juicing, have been looking online and there are various discussions re juicing vs blending. I have a blender already and think maybe blending is the one to try as you keep the fibre. One Dr recommends juicing if you have a chronic condition but blending for the rest of us.
Just found out today that our next door neighbour of 50 years is now in a hospice, near death. She used to babysit my kids. Upsetting because her son (who had POA I think) arranged this, emptied the house and is now going to rent it out. He doesn't live in Liverpool but didn't have the decency to tell us (it probably happened while we were on holiday but he could have left a note or a phone message)
Kate (in Liverpool where it is still snowing)8 -
Kate It probably wasn't personal, just thoughtless. People under duress are often thoughtless. I forgot to tell one of my high school friends that my mom had died and she missed the funeral. She was so upset. I didn't mean to leave her out. It was just a thoughtless stressed out goof-up.
I hope you see your neighbor before she dies. Sending (((hugs))) to you. 50 years is a lot of history...a long friendship...and my gosh, have you lived in the same house your entire life? That's a story we need to hear.
Karen in Virginia who has lived in her house for about 15 years3 -
JanetR - What an amazing photo of Olivia--she's absolutely gorgeous.
Allie - Unfortunately, you can't save everyone in a work situation, you can only save yourself. If you like the office manager a lot, though, you might want to gently advocate for her with the boss, in the sense of telling him how much better things are for you since she arrived. That kind of positive feedback might help him change his mind, especially if the boss likes and trusts you.
Kelly - you're a saint, my dear. I would have been hacked off that there was no full disclosure on the youngster's issue so you could make a rational decision based on your overall workload. You might well have decided to chance it, but it should have been your decision. My sympathies for both you AND the mom, honestly. I would bet she's been through more than one childcare provider who weren't as well-equipped as you to handle it. I also feel sorry for the child who has been his little brother's sole source of comfort and peace. It's a lot of pressure to put on a young heart and mind, being your brother's keeper.
Machka - I LOVED the only time I was given nitrous oxide, because I end up tensing every muscle when they're working in my mouth, and I'm exhausted by the time it's complete. The nerve block injections actually work on me, can't imagine how I'd feel if they didn't!
Okie - I've got a Fitbit Charge HR2, which I've had for almost three years now (I think, hard to remember). It does all that and more, as well, and I can get pretty bands for it (which you can for most of them now).
For those who commented, I'm pretty danged happy, and getting happier in my work environment. It's a blast to be feel valued, treasured even, and I genuinely hope this will be the last place I ever work. It would be nice to be able to get to Social Security age (2 years and two months away!) and be inclined to keep working because I love my job.
Please note, due to my Air Force wife-dom for 27 years, lots of consulting work, and circumstances both within and outside of my control, the longest time I have ever been in any position is four years. That was when I was in the military myself, and they shoot you if you leave! (an exaggeration, but they CAN slap you in jail).
In a civilian position, my longest time at a job was two years and five months, as an assistant controller at an oilfield services company. In April 2022, if I hit 62 years old in this job and decide to retire, I'll have been in it for two years and four months. I might have to stick around 'til June of that year just to say that it was my longest-held civilian job!
Love y'all,

I do have high heels for when I go to the symphony ... but then I'm sitting most of the time.
The ballet flats don't work because they give me blisters and sores on the back of my foot (achilles tendon area). I've actually had them rub holes into me! They also put pressure on my arthritic joint in front. It took me a while to figure something out ... when I wore shoes with a bit of a heel, I didn't get blisters and sores etc, but I did with flats. And then I got it ... it's the angle of my foot. When I'm in a shoe with a bit of a heel, my foot is at a different angle.
We each have to find what works ... life is too short for uncomfortable shoes.
And ... in my mellow "la-la" state after the dental appointment, I kept telling my husband about my new red shoes and then wore them for a while this evening. They're comfy!!
