my heart...my long distance family.😅
Ok... Now I'm blubbering over here.. I'm gonna flood my town

@maryrobinson40 - did I miss this in a previous post? I’m so so sorry to read about your daughter’s struggles. Big hugs and strength to you. X
holy cow I missed this too are you okay?! xxxxxxxxxxxx2 -
Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I logged into MFP last night for the first time in ages, saw this and thought it could be just the thing to keep me on track. Lost the weight a few years ago, but stupidly have put a lot of it back on!
I live in Scotland, and I hate winter I'm cold all the time!
So I will start logging again today. I get frustrated that I can't exercise as much as I'd like. I have permanent back pain, and right now also have sciatica down my leg and a painful shin. Walking HURTS! But walking is also my favourite thing to do, so still trying short walks.
I've bought a book called "Strong Women, Strong Backs" so plan to do the exercises from the book in the hope they will help.
So Just For Today Tuesday 22/1/19
I will log my food on mfp
I will do my normal stretching exercises
I will do the first exercise from the book
I will wrap up and walk to the shops (about 30 - 40 minutes)
Surely I can do a day at a time5 -
Just gonna leave this here...Official first hairstyle!5

Hey, I live in Cheshire, it's trying to snow here , although it's pretty abysmal, what's it like up there atm?!
I'm sorry to hear you have pain, I got a bit of sciatica when I was pregnant and it truly is awful!
is it not something drs can help you with?
glad to have you here anyway!
good luck for your first day!

Thanks for the welcome Right now here it's dry and frosty, so no excuse for not going out.
I have given up with drs ("wear and tear, nothing to be done", is their favourite phrase) and go to an osteopath when I need to. Gives me better relief and helpful exercises to do. He tells me my spine is a bit squint and unstable, so no running jogging or trampolining. Wasn't planning to trampoline anyway! Of course, I have to pay to see him, so don't go too often.
Have already done some exercises today.
Have a good day.3 -

Today: 189.6
Ongoing plans/ideas behind the cut1. Go to Mac store and see if they can retrieve the files off the iMac. Look for an "ugly Christmas sweater" and a long-haired doll at thrift stores. Practice French braiding.
2. Create vocabulary lists for each unit that come from the texts used: Animal Farm, Julius Caesar, Wes Moore, I Am Malala. Find a way to incorporate changing words from one part of speech to another. Students need to know how to review multiple sources and synthesize information in order to draw a conclusion. Regular: needs practice with quoting & paraphrasing sources, identifying claims that would need support, use of last names for reference, and capitalization practice (common/proper nouns, titles). Honors: practice subject/object pronouns (my friend and I / my friend and me).
3. Connect standards to assignments and include them in titles and in gradebook and lessons.
4. Develop writing mini-unit. Review scholarly research on 5PE. (I think I can have this as an intro to the research unit so that they also get exposure to how quotes are integrated and cited.) Parallel structure; use of emotional language, specific detail. Use "Write About a Pebble" lesson from Atwell. Use the UDHR and the Declaration of Independence to study paraphrasing; use that to front-load Machiavelli and how to deal with challenging texts.
5. Write next blog post. Comment on 3 posts each week -Tu Th Sun? Barn order: stapler, pencil sharpener
6. Keep track of medical stuffs. Dentist? Also Feb 7 9:30 w Ac Int. Sub already set up. Apr 22 McC. Need sub. Call to set up checkups with Dass (October). GET MAGAZINES FOR COLLAGES FROM DOCTORS.
7. Take recycling to center. Wash car.
8. Do research on characteristics: curiosity, persistence, resilience, creativity, responsibility, optimism, courage, integrity, authenticity, leadership, self-awareness, humility, compassion - others? Can poetry unit be condensed?
9. Go to used bookstore and look for Design for How People Learn (Julie Dirksen), On Writing (Stephen King), Dying for a Paycheck (Robin Hardman), The Prince (tr. Tim Parks, Russell Price, Harvey Mansfield, or Robert Adams). Check on alternate translations for The Prince.
I was REALLY hoping to see a drop today. Didn't happen; I'm up almost a pound. Nothing for it but to keep going... and to slice up MOST of the loaf of bread my husband baked last night and take it to school to share... and ALL of the cookies!
He's only recently started baking, and he's REALLY good at it. I'm so proud of him! ... but it's SUCH A CHALLENGE, Y'ALL.
@Faebert - Oh gracious. I worked with 4s for ONE YEAR and that was all I could handle. They say some of the most delightfully inventive things! But they're ALWAYS on the go. Whew! It was exhausting!
@littleblackskirt - Welcome! Have you asked your osteopath about low-impact machines like an elliptical or something similar?3 -

Welcome! It is cold here in the states also .... I live in Missouri. Today luckly though we are climbing out of freezing! I am so sorry about the back pain. Have you tried water exercising? I suffer occasionally from back pain, and I found the water exercising really helps. Anyhow, welcome!2 -
Mytime6630 - isn’t it so discouraging a few bad days adds what seems so many pounds, but a few good days only equates to ounces lost? You need to give yourself a break you were sick and if you’re feeling better already maybe all the orange juice helped!
My daughter keeps telling me that I am beautiful and I shouldn’t worry so much about my weight. For me though, it’s how I feel and the health aspect of it. I am scared of diabetes, I don’t want to spend years poking myself. If I can get my weight to a normal range hopefully I can avoid it. I know she’s being kind and cares about me, but this is one thing that I just need to have support. I have gotten so I don’t talk about my plans and goals about my weight outside of MFP that way I’m not hearing too many people in my ears that aren’t on the same journey.
I’m so sorry your daughter is doing so poorly right now, I pray her doctor takes your concerns to heart. There must be something that can be done to help her.
PackerfaninGB - I am so not a morning person, never have been. I remember staying up until 2-3 in the morning and being up to go to work at 6. I can’t do that anymore. I now force myself to go to bed no later than 11 and I’m up at 7 when I’m working. I bathe and wash my hair at night, so in the morning I do my bathroom routine, get dressed and leave the house. I am usually up and out the door within about 20 minutes. I grab a coffee on my way at a drive thru. I detest having time in the morning, if I have time to spare I end up getting very sleepy again. My biggest thing I did to banish the snooze button was move my alarm clock across the room. I had to get up to shut it up and that was all I needed. I haven’t even used an alarm clock for about 2 years. Rodger usually wakes me up and I can’t throw him against a wall or slap him to be quiet. He also gets angry if he has to wake me twice so I just get up.
Maryrobinson40- I love that you joined our group! I agree it’s so strange to me that you can make friends with people you have never met, if I don’t check in I feel like I haven’t connected with my family. If I don’t see someone commenting I wonder if they are ok.
Like others I missed about your daughters struggle too. I pray she gets the help she needs.
Bex953172 - I saw a T-shirt someone made for their daughter in a Cricut board I follow. It just said “sasshole”. I thought it was hilarious and said it all. I much preferred children from newborn to about 5 and then 13 on. I loved raising teenagers, those first school years sucked.
As for having Saskia get herself a yogurt, she’s plenty old enough to do that. I had a low cupboard stocked with snacks they could get on their own including something for a “breakfast” that would tide them over a bit in the morning. My husband drive truck and I worked evenings not usually getting home until midnight. My eldest was a morning child up around 5. I taught her to get something for herself and how to load the vcr so I could get some extra sleep. It doesn’t make you a bad parent it’s what you need to do to get through. I remember many a day me laying on the couch with one sitting on my hip the other tucked in behind my legs so I could have a cat nap. If they moved it woke me up. I always put a long movie on the vcr those days! Lol
Oh Casey is so cute! I need another grandbaby.
Clicketykeys- lol I love how honest you are about your students.
Littleblackskirt - welcome. This group has been instrumental in helping me lose!2 -

I am borrowing my son in laws car today while my daughter is at work. I’m going to go buy some groceries and look for lace for my youngest daughters invitations. I have sold quite a bit of my craft supplies which is helping me pay for the materials we need.
I started the project for Lauryn yesterday it is a mandala of a bookshelf loaded with books. I’m going to find a good quote to put on it. She is an avid reader and is making herself a reading nook in her bedroom. I’m hoping she will treasure this. I’ve looked at quotes but have found so many she would love I am having trouble making a decision.
Ok I’m off to work on my project and make some meatballs for supper. Kaitlyn is joining us so I’m making her favourite.3 -
Today's word for the day: WORDS!
Years ago we had some lovely young ladies from Africa staying with us (I can't recall which country) for the weekend. At one point we were talking about weight, with me dieting (again) and I said, "I am going to lose 20 pounds." One of the houseguests gently encouraged me to say, "I am losing 20 pounds" Why? Because...
They shape our being, our thoughts about ourselves. When I say, "I am going to" then I am stating that it is in the future. My words are telling my mind and body that I haven't begun yet. That I'm not in the present mode of change.
I am losing weight.
Instead of "I want to be disciplined" I say, "I am becoming disciplined"
"I need to work on being patient with my children"...I am working at being patient."
"I'm going to drink 8 cups of water" ... "I'm drinking 8 cups of water"
"I want to go to bed earlier" ... "I am going to bed at 9:30"
"I want to stop hitting the snooze button" ... "I am getting out of bed instead of hitting the snooze button"
Turn a statement said in the future tense to the here and now. Try it!
Peace and joy!3 -

- Drink half my weight in ounces of water. (90 oz) Not quite, but more than usual so it's progress!
- Journal every single bite that goes into my mouth, even if it’s a candy mint Even though my self-control went downhill real quick after I got home from, I did log it all. *sigh*
- Pay attention to consuming half my weight in grams of protein (90 g) and eating less carbs
- Activity: Walk for 30 minutes either outside, treadmill or maybe a Body Groove video. "Move it Monday!" 30 minutes of activity doing laps in the conference room at work. Reeeeally cold outside.
- Eat at least 2 servings of fruits and 3 servings of veggies today. 1/2 grapefruit & 1/2 grapefruit, broccoli, more broccoli and grape tomatoes.
- Prep for tomorrow, tonight Yeahhhh, that didn't happen. Once I sat down, I was done.
- Keep my attitude light and positive. Do not feed into gossip. Walk away. At work. At home. *sigh*
- Give myself credit for things I get right instead of focusing on things I do wrong.
- Unplug one hour early / Joyce or Dodie / Simple Abundance / Gratitude Journal / Calm meditation app I need to pick up a new gratitude journal for 2019. I'm using one that is very time-consuming with a lot of questions to answer, and for some reason I've been extremely exhausted every night and haven't been reading or writing much. Perhaps I'll run on my lunch hour and pick one up!
Winter Storm Austin is moving in this afternoon, so I plan to try getting some walking in this afternoon by doing laps in the conference rooms again. Maybe up and down some staircases. Many of us will probably get to go home if it is snowing badly, but I live 8 minutes away so I always end up staying here. Plus, I have a hair appointment up the road after work to make my hair match (dye my gray...) and get it trimmed up.
I am pretty disappointed with myself over how I ended my day yesterday, but trying really hard to give myself some positive self-talk. Have you ever noticed how we talk to each other on here compared to what we tell ourselves? It's awful the way we speak to ourselves!

Thank you for all the "welcomes", what a lovely friendly thread this is.
@clicketykeys No I've never thought of using machines. Not sure why, maybe because there's no gym in my little town. I live fairly rural so have to drive to most things. Something to think about though.
@Snowflake1968 I'm also scared of diabetes. I'm just in the BMI obese category, will be happy to drop down to overweight, and even happier to reach "normal"
So Just For Today Tuesday 22/1/19
I will log my food on mfp DONE
I will do my normal stretching exercises DONE
I will do the first exercise from the book DONE. Did the first 2 exercises in the book
I will wrap up and walk to the shops (about 30 - 40 minutes) DONE. Slower than normal as it was a bit icy and slippy.

I would like to join in too. I am a 60-yr young wife / empty-nester (only-child son lives in town) / NOT a Grandmother (but know several my age or younger) / not yet retired (but wishes she were!) living in Eastern Ontario.
I have already shed 42 pounds since May 2017. Highest weight: 184 Current weight 142 Goal weight for Maintenance TBD but expected to be in neighbourhood of 135.
How perfect that today's word is .... WORDS
I have a strong belief in the power of words and word choices .... if you don't think they matter, consider the difference between "wise man" and "wise guy".
Turning a statement said in the future tense into the here-and-now is a wonderful and powerful goad to the subconscious.
But personally I wouldn't say "I am losing 20 pounds" Why? Because..."what once was lost has now been found" ... (who wants to FIND the weight we worked soo hard to get rid of!!) so I prefer "am shedding" or "am releasing" but I know some would find that over-picky ... and don't see a negative issue with the TV Show premise of "who will be the Biggest Loser this season!"
I have also always been fascinated about how words tend to shift meaning over time and depending on the group using it. Like the word "diet" in the general population ... we see the word "lifestyle" used more and more to represent the original meaning as still used by nutritionists and biologists.
And the word "biscuit" depending on which side of The Pond you live on .... yes I saw that .... my husband's mother is from England and I love reading British mystery stories, and my son was VERY into Thomas the Tank Engine when he was little .... so I am very aware of such things .... like British "trucks" (freight cars) run on rails, and North American trucks (British "lorries") run on roads.
2019 Big Picture MFP-type Targets:- I am shedding 2 more pounds to reach my healthy BMI zone by (Chinese) New Year (Feb 5)
- I am working on closing that last inch across my back so that my wedding dress fits on my 31st anniversary (April 30)
- I am releasing and lowering my Body Fat % by measurable amounts via daily 7-minute HIIT sessions on my stationary bike (at least 1 per day, sometimes 2) and my daily mini-trampoline jogging for LISS cardio - 45 minutes or more on average.
- I am practicing and preparing to shift to Maintenance eating habits and calorie levels somewhere around 135 pounds by "eating more calories so that I can do more activity that I love" NOW - and getting past the potential mental roadblock of "HOW am I going to eat so many extra maintenance-level pre-exercise calories while keeping fats and sugars mostly in the GREEN!?!?"
I really like that this group encourages non-MFP JFT goals as well, like "write in journal" or "pick up craft supplies" or "finish grading papers".
I have some of those too.
They include:- finishing Level 2 of my Toastmasters Pathways program before June 30
- de-cluttering my study / sewing room
- dealing with my mending pile
- establishing an after work / evening routine that includes BOTH regular study for prequalifying for my French-Second-Language levels for work (current levels expiring in 2020) AND continues daily exercise to release and lower by Body Fat % levels while staying in Maintenance Zone
JFT (Jan 22)
After work:- "jog around Paris" for an hour (Youtube video + Wii exergame Walk It Out to count my steps + mini-trampoline)
- adjust supper and snack logging & choices based on calories burned
- finish requirements and notify Toastmaster Club VP Ed that he can let HQ know I have finished all of Level 1 requirements
- second HIIT session (optional extra)
Is there anything else I need to add at this point? Like a "personal Word for the Year" or something? I wasn't quite clear on that ....2 -

Oh and @PackerFanInGB if you get that quilt to me before the 26th Feb we can always say ur was a present for her first birthday LOL
I cant believe how much time you've spent on it! I'm so excited!1 -
@bex953172 I adore dog ears! Just so cute! And 1 already??!! My word, doesn't seem quite right---are you sure??!!! LOLOL Time passes quickly.
Peace and joy (and rest)1 -
But personally I wouldn't say "I am losing 20 pounds" Why? Because..."what once was lost has now been found" ... (who wants to FIND the weight we worked soo hard to get rid of!!) so I prefer "am shedding" or "am releasing" but I know some would find that over-picky ... and don't see a negative issue with the TV Show premise of "who will be the Biggest Loser this season!"
Is there anything else I need to add at this point? Like a "personal Word for the Year" or something? I wasn't quite clear on that ....
Welcome! Joan is our fearless leader/den mom/and ringleader of this crazy group. All you have to do is post your daily goals and then return to give an update. Personal Word for the Year is totally optional. Just another way to encourage each other. I use the words to post "words for the day" just to keep them fresh on our minds. Joan also has a monthly challenge for us, which is also optional. This month's challenge is Operation: Red Cup, which is to drink more water.
The founder of my weight loss program also encourages us to use the word "release" instead of "lost." Lost means you may find it again!!!
Welcome aboard!2 -
Mon-Sun
- Log everything everyday
- Follow my cleaning schedule
- Drink 8+ cups per day
- Stop with the junk food, learn to say NO
- Watch motivational videos
- Sit less!
Right, checking in *drum roll*..
I effing DID IT!
I've smashed my goals today!
I've logged every morsel and I've got 300 cals left!
I still need to tidy up but weirdly I have the energy to do it!
I've drunk.. 5 cups up to now and I could get that to 6-7 but 8 is pushing it!
I have not had.. A SINGLE biscuit! not one! not even a nibble!
I did have a McDonalds hamburger but I logged it and made sure it fit!
I walked both times for the school run, in the snow.
Marley doesn't like snow... honestly that child!
AND I've walked the dog, something ive not done since before Christmas. I've played in the garden with him but getting him on an actual proper walk is a big deal for me, something I need to work in daily. (obviously, for his sake not mine!)
AND I got Casey in bed at 7pm rather than 10pm!
and I caught up on about 5 episodes of Emmerdale!
Feeling good, hope j can keep it up tomorrow!7
