Thanks everyone for your much appreciated support over my friend's approaching end. My main problem is that I feel so useless because I live a long way away. I can't just pop in, but need her to give me the green light. She has a great many friends who have stuck by her, so I know she is not alone, but I would like to be more help. I will post her the card this pm.
I feel a bit low over it all, but I have had a long time to get used to the idea. When she actually goes I know I will feel bereft. True friends are few and far between. I met her in the 90s when we were both running writing classes at Adult Education colleges. When I discovered my primary breast cancer she had just discovered her secondaries the same day. 2007.

I didn't go to my dance class today, for the third time!

I am still having bouts of coughing, especially on lying flat, so I didn't think the rest of the class would want to listen to that. We are going to walk over to pick up Max from school and take him home. It will be the first time we have seen the kids since our illness. Edie is off school because of a "tummy upset". Apparently she is fine. Looking forward to seeing them all. Don't know what is happening re dinner. Depends on DS.

Machka, I'm glad to hear that there is no broken bone.

Rori, when I have to walk on an icy spot, I do what I call the "old lady walk" which is exactly what you described. It has served me well. Jake always want to take my arm to help me and I have to explain that I need to be in control of my own balance.

ATTENTION: SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:

everyone knows that i workout everyday and i ride my bike everyday and usually run to/from work to the train station. EVEN with all that, and not eating crazy crap, etc, due to the snow and having to slow down or walk the last stretch, or not going as fast as i'm used to, having to leave the gym earlier than usual to make sure i give myself time to slowly get to the train....... i still managed to gain 4 lbs because of it.

i'm not wiggin, i'll take it off. but i just wanted to get you to thinking about your daily activity (or lack thereof) and what you are putting in your body. even the little bit of slacking off will affect you, even me.

when you get to my stage of "usual" exercise or even if you don't, it's funny how you don't have to get on the scale and you can just feel that you've gained a couple of pounds. i weighed myself yesterday and i was right.

Snowing all day today. I spent two hours chipping out driveway yesterday. Salt only went so far. Glad I did it before the snow hit. Got my exercise for sure yesterday. I did make it to choir and voice lesson yesterday. I can tell difference in my singing voice the high F and G are much easier and less sharp now. I did hit an A in a warm up. I am relearning how to sing the high notes.

Pip know what you mean. I just add a few things back like bread for a sandwich and a couple of pounds came right back.

It really does matter what I eat not just the calories.

I do need to be more active at night too. I have gotten in habit on falling asleep in front of TV again. Another problem for me in the struggle to keep weight down at a healthy level.

Cheryl: I have a warm spot in my heart for dogs that are black & tan with tan eyebrow dots and legs. My very first puppy was marked that way. He had a white chest, too. He was mostly cocker spaniel with a drop of Pekingese and I named him Trigger. I was 5 and Roy Rogers was my hero.

Rori: Our PNW take on snowy weather is based on a combination of lack of experience & fear of other drivers. Not enough people know what to do to stay safe. The roadways can be a destruction derby. I-5 between Seattle and California has uncountable fender-benders and wrecks if there is any ice or snow. Black ice is the worst because drivers frequently can’t see it. :ohwell:

Machka: Great news for your bones!!!!! I’m sorry to hear about the joint cartilage, though. I have a knee with cartilage problems. It is chronically sore. I had one MRI that upset me to the point that they had to stop early. I was totally claustrophobic. The last time I went in I was in a different machine and had plenty of headroom. Much better!

Lisa: It sounds like you are doing well after surgery.

Kymarai: I am so sorry about your aunt’s situation. :flowerforyou:

Allie: Congrats on the 14lb loss!!!

Sharon: I’ve had chicken pox and have had shingles vaccine more than once because there was an updated version available. Hopefully the shingles stay away. DH also had chickenpox but he can’t take the vaccinations. We keep our fingers crossed for him.

(((Pip))) I’m sure you will get the extra weight off pronto. You are so amazing.

Yoga today!!! Yay!! Right now DH is cooking our breakfast. I need to go and be helpful.

My meeting last night was actually quite pleasant. It went well. The ladies want to create a horse rest area in a public park—as step one. They actually hope to go on from the equine rest area and build a place with corrals for horses, plus camp sites and trails for people enjoy on public parkland down by the river. They’ve already done this in another county park and it has a park host similar to what Rita & her DH do. There are several county parks with hosts but only one is aimed at horses and riders so far.

well I did a little pick me up this morning, DFIL was having non of it this morning he was out like a light sleeping, so was not going to try and force him to eat or drink anything there is always tomorrow..
I went to Lowes and am having them sort of give me an idea on what it would cost to redo my kitchen.. its not a huge one, but since I will be here for alot of years I want to be able to enjoy it..
I also for ha ha's went over to where the mini pendant lights where and found 2 globe lights with netting on them sort of like the old glass bouy's .. on clearance for 3.98 and there were 2, so for less than 8 bucks thats taken care of... he he

Heather - so sorry to hear about your friend.

Sharon - sorry to hear about you getting Shingles, I’ve heard they are very painful.

Lisa - I bet you’re glad to be home. Hope you heal very fast.

Machka - good news on no fracture. Hopefully the PT has a good plan to get you up and running.

Pip - my Grandmother was a tiny woman who never exercised except maybe taking a walk up the driveway get the mail. She weighed herself every single Sunday without fail. If the scale said anything over 110 she tightened up her eating the next week. She was the most disciplined person I knew when it came to her diet.

Allie - what a great deal for your lights. I want to redo a couple small things in our kitchen one of those if definitely light placement.

I am going into the craftroom today, I have a couple of projects I want to do. One for myself and one for my Mom. Today the job posting for the one I applied for that I really want closes. I imagine they will start looking at resumes tomorrow or Monday.

Mary - I am a big fan of Mosley's 5:2 and its variations, and the IF that Beth is doing so well. At this stage in my life, it's not what the scale says, but choosing foods and eating them in a manner that contributes to my health long-term. Liver health, artery health, brain health. Eating sparingly a few days a week, then eating normally (and perhaps over-indulging a bit) is doing what I want it to do.

Along that line, cutting way back on added sugar, and using healthy fat for fuel (check out Dr. Mercola's "Fat for Fuel") instead of mostly carbs and protein makes sense for me. Whole milk, eggs, butter, avocadoes, nuts = super high fat grams which throws calorie counts off the charts. Five years ago I would have said it's crazy and goes against everything I'd been taught.

As the KETO gals here can attest (Rita, Allie) cutting carbs way down and beefing up the fat actually can contribute to weight loss.

Lisa - glad the operation is over and you are home again. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Kelly - power out during this cold weather? Yikes! Glad they got it fixed.

Sharon - shingles. Drat. Are you on Neurontin or something that aims to cut the duration down?

Heather - your cancer friend has been dealing with treatments for a long time it seems. Not sure that I could have kept at it as long as she has. So neat that you've been friends for so many years and fellow writing instructors.

Sharon - sorry about the shingles. I have had that once, but luckily my friends, three of them doctors, diagnosed it early and I was able to take anti virals, so it wasn't too bad.
I'm at the grandkids. Didn't manage the dance class. DH is doing stirling service while I chill. Here he is being 'taught' perspective by Max. They learnt it at school today.

We went to see the ice sculptures last weekend. it did help to get out we were in the 30's and made a nice break in the last couple of weeks. Love the marriage proposal!

Just got back from taking my husband to his colonoscopy ... all is well.

Medical Billing Rant

We weren't home five minutes when the mailman delivered a certified letter from my physician. He was informing me that he was dismissing me as a patient because of an outstanding balance. Which I don't have. Or didn't think I had as it was a disputed item from 3 years ago and I haven't heard from the billing office or received a bill in over 18 months after I handed my PA a ton of paperwork. In fact my account online showed a "0" balance due. So I called the billing office and was told that IF I paid it, the doctor MIGHT take me back as a patient. The 0 balance was for new charges not the old ones??? This is blackmail for an error they made. Which I have documentation for. I paid the dang balance because I don't need to be blackballed ... which they insinuated in the letter ... and they're one of the biggest medical groups in the area. I also wrote to my doctor on his online service and one of his staff wrote back. "just disregard the letter. they're just trying to collect on old debts." I'm really ticked off. They blatantly decided to ignore the documentation from my insurance company and myself because their accounting practices are sloppy. It was only $70. But it stinks. I want you to know it took everything in my power not to hit the pantry and start stress eating ...

Beth good news re colonoscopy and you are victorious because you didn't hit the pantry as a reaction to that horrible billing dept in your doctors office. I can totally relate, that type of nonsense would make me go and find a new medical group right quick...Let's hope they realize that they can't treat people like that!

Rori & PNW gals--At where I work they tell us to walk like a duck on the ice. Toes pointed out and waddle. DH laughs cause I keep repeating that when I am walking where there is any ice or snow.

Machka--So glad to hear nothing is broken, just hope therapy and rest heal it fast as I know you are not one to take it easy.

Allie--sorry to hear about your office manager, but happy to hear the new Doctor is listening to you and maybe he put you and Mary in different places to see just what she does.

Well I am so MAD at our car insurance company. Last month DH was backing out of parking stall and a van tried going around us. We hit each other. Just a small mark on our car and a small dent in front of her driver's door.
Anyway our insurance calls a couple days ago and says she is claiming injury. I said no way we did not hit that hard and she was find and kept telling us she was fine. Today my insurance calls me at work to tell me they paid her for her van and injury claim. They will not tell me the amount or what kind of injury, but our insurance is going up. I have no problem paying to fix the dent, but no one was hurt. Thanks, for listening.

Vicki ~ So sorry to hear about the woman claiming to be hurt! My son did the same thing to his boss's car today when he was backing out of his parking spot. Don't know how they will work out the damage to the boss's car.
Son had just taken out a loan to pay off all their credit card bills. This same week, son's car would not get out of 4th gear so that will be another expense. He vowed they would quit using the credit cards so I am just praying that the good Lord will guide them through.

Heather UK, have you thought of asking her if there's be a time she thinks she would be up to having you come visit? Depending on the warmth of her answer you could make plans accordingly. She may not feel up to traveling to Hove. I dread my sister friends becoming I'll, although I know it must one day come. My heart aches for you. Incidentally, if you cough when laying flat, don't lay flat. Put a pillow or two more under your upper body.

Katla, it's precisely because of folks like your husband that I'm quarantined. Folks who can't take the vaccines and babies are at risk of chickenpox. We who grew up in the 40s and 50s thought nothing of it, but there are serious complications. It can be deadly, as we know now. I don't want to put anyone at risk. I had chickenpox as a kid, and both shingles shots, and still got shingles! And it hurts!
