I actually went out for an intentional run this morning. Well a walk/run as allowed by the PT!! I wanted to go out for about 2 miles give or take and I ended up with 2.7 with the first bit more walking for Hobbes to get his business taken care of so we could actually go, go, go. I tried to be doing a 5 min walk/1 min run but looking at Strava it was more like a 2 min run and there was one point that I started running spontaneously when I should have been walking - oops. It was beautiful, cool and very cloudy out after the rain with more rain on its way this afternoon.
After my 'run' I headed to the gym and cycled for another 40 mins. Not sure why I felt the need to do this but I was already dressed and I have been going to the gym on Fridays to cycle pretty regularly now.

Current running goals are to run consistently(read daily) for the entire year, the PR I am chasing is a distance PR. I will continue to push my long runs every other Saturday as long as I am able. Not quite sure where I will end up with my longest distance, but may get to 50+(inspirations from @7lenny7 and @PastorVincent ).
As @midwesterner85 said, I too am pretty much an open book, if you want to know just ask.
2.5 before the trainer this morning and long run tomorrow of 18, which the wife said I need to make as an out and back as she is not crossing state lines to pick me up

My current running goal is for my 12k race in May. I'd love to beat my PR from 2013. I'm debating running my first half later this year as well.
As for something others may not know? I had a poem published years ago in a collection, but I couldn't afford to purchase a copy at the time. Last year I stumbled on a copy of the book from a used bookstore online, bought it and couldn't wait for it to arrive. I was really disappointed to find that my poem isn't in that particular publishing.
I have a Gaelic name (Shana) and I was always upset about the name plates too! That and I always (still) have to spell it and my last name too. I am used to it now but it is annoying. Now most people spell it with a U or a W and without those it is most frequently mispronounced. I did discover that it is spelled the same as a Jewish name as well as Indian which are of course pronounced completely differently...
@shanaber We are first-name twins, but I didn't know about the Jewish/Indian names. I only met one other person with the same name, spelled the same but pronounced differently than mine. My maiden name was also always misspelled and mispronounced. My high school principal accurately predicted that I would marry someone with a common last name.6 -
@zeesparrow - I have only (recently) met one person here with the same name pronounced the same (correct
) way as mine/ours. I found out about the Jewish ad Indian names from people I worked with. It was a very international company and when they mispronounced my name and were corrected (by others since I just go with whatever) they explained it to me.
For the monthly questions...
My current running goal is to get healthy enough to be able to run regularly and build up to my 'normal' mileage and be able to start HM training the 1st of March. Hopefully be able to run and finish my HM in May. At this point I am not worrying about and PRs.
Something you may not know about me is that I grew up in Idaho. My dad's work took him all over the state to remote areas so we spent pretty much every summer hiking and tent camping in the wilderness.
More current - I love music, especially alternative rock and going to concerts. I am often one of the oldest if not the oldest there but I still love it.6 -

The big goal is to figure out how to stay uninjured while running 2 major marathons this year.
At age 70, Gene D.y.k.e.s said he started running at age 58, and set a new PR at one distance or another every year since. I started at age 55, and hearing Gene say that put it in my head to set a marathon PR at Wineglass last year. The marathon distance was the most attainable target, based on prior PRs; the course was favorable geographically; and the date had a decent chance of good weather. It all came together, and marathon was the only distance I set a PR for in 2018.
This year . . . if I get good weather at Boston, I think it would be possible to break the PR I set at Wineglass. But good weather is not guaranteed, so I'll be happy to finish healthy. PRs at other distances look like more a result of getting lucky and having everything come together right on race day than of hard work. (Of course, hard work would be involved as well.)
Heh. If I run 3:23:00 or less, I can call it a "Boston PR" even if it's not a marathon PR for me.
Something others may not know . . . I may have mentioned everything I'm willing to mention at one time or another. So here's something I haven't mentioned often: I have a sister who does genealogy. A few years ago, she put together a family tree showing medical issues and causes of death. If I shake that tree, an awful lot of atherosclerosis and stroke falls out. I'm doing what I can about that, and count myself fortunate to have fewer medical and health issues to deal with than many other people (including some runners) have.13 -
@eleanorhawkins @workaholic_nurse @PastorVincent thank you for your advice on the knee pain! I ended up doing some gentle stretching and kept it elevated while icing it a bit before bed last night. I still felt it this morning when I was going up/down stairs, but not when I walked, so I decided to give my run today a go.
I took it very easy. Like, a snail’s pace easy, and got 4 miles in. No knee pain during the run, and hoping it stays that way(fingers crossed)

My current running goal is to be consistent with running 3 times a week. I usually get a good start and then "fall off the wagon." So far, I'm on week 10 and proud of it. I was going to say that the PR I was chasing was to better my time on the EXTERRA Panther Creek Trail Run 10K this year...I ran it 10 years ago, when I turned 50, and was planning to run it again this year, when I turn 60. I just looked it up to see the exact date and was bummed to see that it is no longer a 10K. This year they are having a HM and a 4.2 mile race. That stinks. Guess I'll have to rethink that goal.
What you don't know about me? There's probably a lot. The one thing I'm most proud of is that I was in the US Air Force for 15 years and, one of my duties was to help launch the GPS satellites...my name is floating around in space somewhere, as we got to sign a piece of the heat shield on one of the satellites.
Today after work, I took my dog for a 30 minute walk. I had talked myself out of running today - was going to put it off until tomorrow. But, it was so nice out and who knows what tomorrow will bring, so I actually talked myself INTO running. I did 30 minutes and went 2.2 miles. That's a slight improvement over the last time I did this run.

Not much to report other than another treadmill run, this time all in one shot after work. My hamstrings and glutes were super sore today so it took quite a while to warm up and I cursed my trainer for the first mile or so. Made a note to remind him that I need to go LIGHT on legs next week before my HM.
Did a little pull-up practice on the assisted pull-up machine while I was there as well.
Monthly question - my immediate running goals are just to survive the Lake Effect HM next weekend and the Spartan obstacle race two weeks later.
This year my big goal is to get a half marathon PR. After next weekend (where I will not attempt a PR) I'm signed up for one in June but haven't decided on more than that. Maybe one in April and I'll do something in the fall for sure.

So, after 2 days of treatment for long-standing sleep problems, I am starting to feel more human. I actually enjoyed the crud out of my run this morning. It was balmy, breezy, birds were singing, I didn't feel like I was going to die of lack-of-sleep-ness...

Have been having some weird tingling sensations in my left heel that isn't quite pain. It disappears as soon as I warm up but is pretty noticable when walking around. I have my first ever 15K race on Saturday morning. I am planning on running a very easy 3 miles tomorrow. On Jan 30, I was walking home from work in the early morning hours (I mostly work overnights) and I was tired and stepped off the curb wrong to cross the street and I twisted my right ankle. While my ankle itself is fine, I've had off and on pain in the arch of my foot. I rode the subway to pick up my race bib today and the muscles used while bracing against the acceleration and stopping of the train actually made it hurt pretty bad.
I have never raced this distance. My usual breakfast before 5Ks and 10Ks is a frozen Lender's bagel, with a wee bit of butter, with some cinnamon and sugar and either a banana or a container of Applesauce. I'm thinking of eating two bagels (they are 140 calories apiece) instead on Sunday morning. I will be leaving my house approx. 1:45 before the start of the race and drinking a 20oz Gatorade while walking over there. So my calories would be 280 from the bagels, about 75 from the butter, 20 for the sugar, 100 for the banana or applesauce and another 140 for the Gatorade so a total of 600ish. I am 5'4" and 135lbs. Too much? Too little? I have eaten the two bagels before 100 minute training runs and that has held me fine but I normally start my run only one hour after eating. I am starving when I finish. I'm not planning on eating anything during the run, but will drink some Gatorade and obviously water if I need it. Sorry for all the questions. Thank you.

Such a great idea!! My current goals are to PR in the HM in March (I have to beat 1:38:56 but would love a 1:35-1:36), BQ in April (need 3:30 or better) and complete my first 50k with a smile on my face in July.
Fun fact: I work in run speciality so I have tons of running shoe, injury prevention, apparel/gear knowledge. Also: I’m from Iowa, lived in NJ for 4 years, and now live in Virginia near DC — the winters here are so much better than in the Midwest (sorry Midwesterners!).6 -

Everyone's answers to the monthly question are so fun! @MobyCarp I'm the genealogist in my family - when I opened our family closets a whole bunch of stuff jumped out!
One of the more interesting series of events which we didn't know about until I started doing research is that my mother's great-grandfather was briefly accused of ambushing and shooting a man in what is now Bartlett and leaving him to be eaten by pigs, back during the Reconstruction era. The murdered man was a former plantation owner who had been accused of whipping a black tenant, and because my gx3 grandfather's family belonged to a church which had been abolitionist before the war, my ancestor and his younger brother (who had been seen arguing with the victim the day before) were dragged into court to answer questions. Somehow, in the middle of an uprising in the court, the younger brother slipped out, stole a horse, and disappeared, never to be seen again. This was taken as proof of the brother's guilt, and after neighbors vouched for my gx3 grandfather, he was released. 12 years later, his brother had still not been recaptured and there are ads in the paper offering a bounty for his return.
Anyway! Current running goals: I would like to complete the Winter Trail Series, final race is Feb. 24. The series forms part of one of my goals for this year which was to gain experience racing on trails. My other goal is to become competent at racing 10k distance, and run a sub 1 hr 10k. Right now I feel like I'm doing pretty well at a local age group level at 5k, but I'm not yet as good as I would like to be at the 10k. I've been adding some longer runs to my weekly routine and getting used to pacing at that distance.
Something you might not know about me (the grandpa story is a freebie): I collect Dawn dolls, which are 6 1/2 inch tall fashion dolls made between 1970 and 1973. I had just one as a child, bought on clearance, and always wanted more, but the company had gone out of business, and I had to wait for the invention of eBay.6 -
6.2 miles on trails at WC Johnson park. Not feeling it today! I'm about ready for the weather to pick a temperature and stick with it. Last run was warm and sunny, today was cold and rainy. Yesterday I woke up with my nose completely stopped up, and while the nose is better today I don't think I'm 100 percent. And whenever I go out in public everyone keeps coughing on me! I hate germ season.
Despite all this, pretty good run. Started out super slow but ended up with negative splits, felt pretty good towards the end. The boardwalk was dangerously slick, the trails were mostly mud, and we had to double back instead of running our usual trail because the bridge is underwater. Heard not one but two great horned owls talking to each other, ran through a herd of deer then ran through the same deer again when doubling back, saw a pair of great blue herons flying overhead and gronking to each other as if they were having a conversation. Traditionally St Valentine's Day is supposed to be when birds pick a mate, I guess they were trying to figure out where to go for dinner!
My waitress coughed on me and I feel headachy and tired. I am going to be very annoyed if all these germ spreaders make me sick before my race next week.5 -
I usually do my long run on Friday, but someone from my neighborhood Strava group is going to meet me on Sunday to show me where the trails are!! I didn’t even know we had actual trails in this neighborhood! I’m excited to run them and it will be about 6 miles so I switched my easy Sunday and long Friday to make it work. Calling it a neighborhood makes it sound smallish but my “neighborhood” has several thousand people in it. It’s sprawling. Everything is bigger in Texas, right? There are lots of wide nicely paved sidewalks and paved paths through little green belt forests and parks but I had no idea there were trails. It is an easy place to get out and be active and people seem to take advantage of it until it just becomes too unbearable to be outside.
Anyway, my husband is slowly getting back into running, so I went out with him tonight. Did a couple of miles at his pace. It’s nice to have someone to chat with on a run sometimes!

And something about me. I love to cook and bake! Tonight I made the most amazing peanut butter chocolate chunk oatmeal cookies. Oats, PB, eggs...totally a health food! It is nice to have the extra calories of being at maintenance and actually getting to eat the delicious cookies!!8 -

Something about me:
I feel like I am a pretty open book so this is hard. I danced from age 3 to about 23 which is why I started running. Needed something else to do. Ummmm, I love punk rock and partied with many bands (Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects to name two bigger ones). I don't really talk about my job so I do HR for a public defense office. There, that's 3 things.
On the genealogy part: When I was a freshman I took honors history (yah, I'm a nerd). We had to do a genealogy project and go back 6 generations. It was hard but I just got one line back 6 generations. While the internet was a thing it wasn't what it was a few years later. I started an ancestry account a few years later (when it became a website). Fast forward like 20 (?) years and I get an email from a guy in Norway asking if I am so-and-so's daughter and retelling the story of my great x many grandpa coming over to America. I called my mom and let her know and then responded that I was so-and-so's granddaughter and who my mom was. Then like 6ish months later my mom and he cousin were on their way to Norway for a family reunion. The next year the Norwegians came to the states and I got to meet some of them and learn more about my family! They also gave us some info on where my dad's side is from because it's like the next town over.10 -

Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
28 degrees F with a little light snow. Did the first k as a slow warmup, and my hip felt pretty good. Increased the pace, and my hip continued to feel good. Finished up with my hip feeling good, so it was a win today.
My goals are listed above; something you may not know about me is that, thanks to my military service, I've lived on three continents: Asia; North America; and Europe.

This one was a suckfest from start to finish. I thought I would be a little less sore today after loosening up a little on yesterday's run, but my hamstrings and glutes were still really sore. The forecast didn't have more than a flurry in it, but the snow started picking up as I drove over and was starting to accumulate. I chose the 8 am start time instead of 7 because I only planned to do 8 miles and wanted to sleep in a little more, but that was a mistake. Most of the people I run with had started at 7 and were getting close to being finished so I only had company for a short portion of it. Another friend was reportedly out there somewhere but I never saw her (until I was driving away).
The wind off the lake really started gusting and was brutal in your face on the way back for the last few miles. I didn't bring my phone with me so had no music either and I just whined and moaned to myself, it was really tiresome. Much like this report. When I got back to the parking lot I couldn't face finishing up the 8 miles so i called it close enough and went to get myself a huge coffee and a pastry. Hopefully that's the crappiest run of the month done with.

@Tramboman and @HonuNui - Love this!! So now I am youthfully and height challenged I like to tell people (my doctor especially) that yes, I am getting older but I am NOT old.... Also I think @mobycarp fits in here somewhere too.
I love the genealogy stories! My parents families have been in the US a long time (pre-revolutionary) and are pretty well documented going way way back so I didn't have much to research there. My husband's father though was 1st generation from Hungary so he has done a lot of research and found relatives here and in Hungary. It is really a lot of fun especially with more and more records being made available online. I am on FamilySearch (free) and he had an Ancestry account for a while. I think I found as much if not more on the free site other than things like military records.6
