This is not as big of a deal as when I was 1 or 2 weeks AF...but today is 1 month AF.

@Ed_Zilla One month is a very big deal! You should be proud of yourself!4

I've decided with Spring right around the corner that I need to be done with the sweets. I've got to step it up. After a massive amount of food yesterday, (shrimp and grits at brunch, gummy bears at my sisters, M & M's for Oscar viewing) I am going to eat clean and get my act together starting today. Wish me luck.7

I'm with you Jen,my eating has been bad ever since the holidays and it seems I just kept holiday eating going time to clean up my act! Ed_zilla one month is fab wishing everyone a great AF day!8

Haven't been commenting in here lately, but i'm still around! 6 weeks AF tomorrow. I've been surviving get togethers with friends, whom alllll drink. But they seem to respect my decision, so that's been really helpful.
Also, it's been FREEZING cold around here and snow, snow, snow, so that makes it easy to NOT want an ice cold beer! Lol. A hot toddy sounds good tho.....😏😆 hahaha, nah, i'll stick to my coffee!
Have a wonderful week everyone.9 -

ANOTHER snow day Today would have been my last catch-up day for work I rebooked from the past 2 storms and then back to normal schedule tomorrow, or so I was hoping. Therefore, I`m somewhat ticked that it`s all messed up again r-r-r-r-r-!!
Do I have any control over the weather...??? N...O!! What can I control? I refuse to be ticked & waste my day off stewing...about something I have no control over....!!!
I have a comfortable, peaceful, warm home and a loyal canine companion to keep me company and part of a book that I want to work at finishing so I can start a new book that is waiting patiently for me, an adult coloring book that I can continue to color in and a tub that I`m filling with very warm water to soak my cares away....Life`s tough, eh?? LOL8 -

WOOHoo! Congrats on your 6 weeks of AF living! It is helpful when others don`t push you to drink. Makes the journey more bearable. Happy for your success5 -

Question: What do you all drink if you do go to bars/clubs? Probably a dumb Q and I apologize if it's been asked a lot already.
I am new to this and wouldn't honestly be concerned...but there's a special dj set at a bar in a couple of weeks, and I'd really like to go but it's no cover, so I feel completely weird not ordering anything at all. I'll feel less weird even getting a soda or whatever...but want ideas! Thanks in advance. (FTR the place I'm going is not fancy whatsoever and doesn't have food so it won't be like a dinner situation)1 -

my drink was vodka tonic so i get just tonic water with ice.....it looks like vodka tonic too4 -
@Ed_Zilla agree with others, 1 month is a big deal
I was thinking today of going 3 month dry. Already did the 2 month. Can do March, April, May, get the 8-pack abs in time for summer and rock out with my bock out all summer.....hey? hey? hey!
I don't think I was clear about my meaning. I am proud to be here at 1 month AF. What I was meaning was, even though I still have to stay focused on the AF goal, there are so many more positives that I never knew existed 1 month ago, that it is just much easier to stay AF at 1 month than on Day 1 or week 1.

I drink whatever...In that situation, trying to blend in, I would drink club soda with limes or diet anything with limes. Adding the lime makes it look more like a "cocktail"4 -

Hello all, I am an old follower and member here. I have decided to come back updaye my experiences as an old alcohol abuser. I was using alcohol as a buffer against life's reality. I now have experienced some changes due to firstly starting off with the support of this group, than learning that I am insulin resistant and that any bit of alcohol would spike it and my efforts for weightloss be lost. So that was something that was like a monkey on my back. Next I learnt some alcohol didn't spike it as easy so I was able to have the occasional splash.
Because of this process I was or have been able to read signs my body's reaction to thing I can take and cant. Mostly I went without. I'd substitute it, trick myself out of it by having diet tonic sweetened with stevia or soda and lime or lemon.
I found people that were used to me drinking at the beginning made a fool out of me for not joining them, (I was the party pooper, etc)
They now watch me to see if I give in . They've noticed I have lost dramatic amount of weight in the last 12 mths and of course, they are still struggling with theirs.
I wasn't brought up with excessive alcohol use so it was a lifestyle change after I was married to an alcoholic, where life was all around alcohol. It might sound unreal sadly some use it that way.
On the positive note, I am free from that, I was thinking this morning that we are individuallyin charge of our destiny. I looked up a few quotes to find the one I was thinking of but found these others.
We determine our destiny by the actions we take today. Catherine Pulsifer
Your life isn't an accident. You have a destiny, one that only you can complete. Rick Warren
In the realm of personal growth, there is also the continuous learning that occurs in your own control of your own destiny. Byron Pulsifer,
Sorry it's such a long piece of writing, I guess I've made up for lost time.
Sending you all the best on this journey, I can't say I have reached the end because I still have to wrestle with my feeling or more to the point.. the taste of alcohol and nearly get blinded the positive (fun and laughter and adventure which is temporary) soon gets smashed by effects I remember and see on others. I think I will alway have that.
Cheers to all, hope you have an awesome day/night

@ElC_76 Great point ! I loved reading it. I now that you are evolving (we all are) and occasionally if we stumbled, it won’t derail us. Sounds like you have worked things out in your mind. It makes life simpler when you set boundaries and self-reflect. Like I said we are always evolving4

I've lost 3 lbs in 3 days. I guess when you stay within your calorie goals and drop sweets (and of course, alcohol) you actually DO lose weight. Who knew. I realize it is probably water weight but it is fun to see a lower number on the scale anyway.12

I think I found the right privacy setting to keep this from showing up on my profile page. Any privacy tips are welcome.
I have been watching this thread off and on for numerous months. I've watched several videos that were posted and cried because I knew that was me. My drinking was out of control and I don't think anyone knew (but I might be fooling myself). I would have a drink or two after I got home from work, but the real problem started after my husband went to bed at 9. (Our schedules are off by about 4 hours.)
I would go into work, but Lord!!! Those hangovers!! I looked and felt like crap.
I stopped drinking on January 16th. It's been one month and 11 days. My husband had a heart attack on my one month anniversary. Thank God I was sober and able to get him to the hospital. It saved his life.
I am so grateful to all of you for sharing your stories and inspiring me to take some control back over my life. I am but one person out here in a sea of strangers. But your words have had a tremendous impact on my life.
Thank you!!!!!!17 -
@MountainLaurel787 Welcome to our thread. I hope your husband is making a good recovery. I'm glad you were sober that night (and now) to deal with something so difficult. I hope you continue to come here for support.
