@RubyRed427 So glad you cancelled your plans when you felt it wouldn't be healthy for you. It's so easy to let one lapse take over and get you back into the same patterns.. I hope you have a great weekend!2

Happy Saturday, friends!
I went to see a 90’s cover band last night at a tiny little dive bar with some friends, had a great time and no desire to drink 🙌🏼 I stayed out way later than normal but as a result got to chat on the phone with my husband (he’s deployed and in a different time zone) and finally got to bed around 2 am 😳 I woke up with a raging headache (because apparently 29 is when sleep deprivation becomes problematic) and a TON of gratitude that the headache wasn’t made worse by ordering all the G+T’s, or losing memory of parts of the night, or making dangerous transportation choices. Perspective is a weird and beautiful thing ☺️ Grateful for the lot of you today!6 -

LOVE THIS QUOTE!!! ❤️
Frank Outlaw expresses this principle well:
Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.4 -
Another weekend without alcohol, which is always the time of greatest risk to my resolve. Will celibrate with some chocolate!12

Hope everyone had a nice weekend been battling a small cold and it annoys me cuz I wake up feeling hungover-no fair! Have a happy AF day all8

I spent much of last week visiting a rather difficult SIL. In the past, a glass or two of wine has helped to blunt the edges. It was really not the fear of running off the rails that stopped me but gratitude. I thought about how incredibly productive and happy these last two months have been and realized I would be fantastically ungrateful to do anything to mess that up. This is my new life and I choose it.10

My wife was gone on a trip this weekend. In the past, I would get a movie she would hate and blast it on the home theater while getting a helluva bourbon buzz going. This weekend I got a movie she would hate and blasted it on the home theater while drinking club soda with limes14

I need to pay for my transition, so why not get the additional benefit of stopping alcohol by saving money as well? :-)7

I felt that way last weekend when I woke up with a terrible sinus headache! Super unfair! Although it did remind me that while having the sinus headache was out of my control, I could choose not to be hungover by staying AF for now.8 -

Hi Driends!
So at the gym, the beer ads are all over the TV screens. I guess the beer companies have launched a new campaign. There is this Michelob ad where they show a robot doing human activity like running, golfing, sparring....and then the robot walks by a window of a restaurant and looks inside and sees all these people enjoying a beer...then the caption says, its only worth it if you can enjoy it.....
That got me thinking...so many thoughts....true you cant just be a robot with your life, you have to stop to smell the roses....but the punch line of the ad is also a call to stay dry for people like you and me....because drinking is not worth it because we end up not enjoying it..
so thats my speech tonight11 -
I love this!! One day at a time I've stayed sober for 4 years back in November. It makes losing weight a HELL of a lot easier!!!!8

I was away for the weekend in Connecticut visiting family for a funeral. My husband took a picture of 5 of us women sitting on the sofas, each with knitting or crocheting in our hands. There is neither a drink nor a cell phone in the picture. It makes me so happy to look at it. It was lovely to all be really PRESENT without the distraction of phones or booze.11
-
@JenT304. Sorry about the loss I your family. It has been also nice 👍 to be present without the distraction of booze! I am knitting my first scarf and having fun!3
-
@JenT304 Very sorry for your loss!1
-
Thank you, everyone. It was my husband's 94 year old uncle. He had a life well lived. The reception was in the church so it was alcohol free which I found to be a relief. I have been to too many post funeral receptions with drunk, innapropriately acting people.5

Did these people choose to drink knowing it would end in them taking lives? Sure a lot of people claim they have never driven drunk, but...a) a LOT of people do even if they don't want to admit it or are in denial about how much they had before getting behind the wheel, and b) alcohol lowers inhibitions so even if they didn't intend to drink that much or didn't intend to drive drunk, who knows what they would end up doing. People get angry if you say it, but alcohol is one of the biggest pestilences in our society. Personally I think it's even worse than opioids. It certainly causes more deaths (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2018/11/16/alcohol-deaths-emergency-room-increase-middle-aged-women-addiction-opioids/1593347002/).6 -

While I was drinking, I rarely, if ever ate sweet things like cake, ice cream, candy, etc. I didn't want it and never cared for it. Now that I am AF, sweet things are truly AMAZING. I really have to watch it because, you know - ice cream.
I am not sure why I find sweets so delightful now. Has anyone else experienced this or a similar change in tastes when going AF?6 -

I have heard that from several people and for myself definitely eat a lot more fruit now. I think from us not drinking that the lack of sugar from alcohol our body craves it! I was never a dessert person when I drank.3 -
@JenT304 hugs to you and your family.

Good morning friends! @JenT304 my sympathies to you and your family. I bet you got pounded by the winter storm! Stay safe.
For sure, alcohol is sugar so when we quit alcohol, our brain craves sugar. So, we tend to eat more sweet treats. I went on the whole 30 diet in November which is an elimination diet. That seemed to stop the cravings after about five days.
Wishing you a wonderful day! I am going through a lot right now but I do know that if I were drinking nightly like I used to, I would be even more of a mess. Xo5
