This past weekend I was at a quilt retreat where many drink wine throughout the weekend. I brought some because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. I don’t know if this is forever or not. I don’t know if it should be or not. That bottle of wine sat on my desk for the entire weekend unopened.
I thought about opening it last night, opened this feed, and I decided not to open it. Because I didn’t open that bottle, I remember the entire weekend. I did not make mistakes, I didn’t drink 1500 calories, and I didn’t have to try to remember what I discussed at midnight with friends!
Today is eight weeks of AF, and it marks 56 days!

@kevinrfletcher YES, your liver does regenerate after appr. one year liver health is greatly increased if not back to "normal"...depends on the severity of drinking prior to quitting...so far mine is 85.1% regenerated ... after 2 years the risk of developing coronary heart disease is back to "normal" After 5 years the risk of stroke is greatly reduced and the healthier habits we develop the lower the risk...after 10 years sober risk of certain cancers associated with alcohol are down to a level only slightly above a non drinker and will continue to improve with abstinence from alcohol. These stats are on my QuitDrinking app...
AND apparently my mental health was 100 % sometime time ago, (after 3 months sober) but it depends who you ask LOL OH WELL, I have other redeeming qualities.9 -

@lorrainequiche59 I'm so glad you posted those stats. I'd been trying to find some info like that. Just factual milestones for living AF - sort of like mini goals as we go along. I'm hoping all of our livers are improving, it affects so many things.8

Good morning friends! It was a good weekend; I bought a couch at the store but saw online it was cheaper! (Same store and website) ...Live and learn..
Went to the park for jog/walk both days due to beautiful weather. And even put the top down on the convertible. Debated on having dinner with a friend this week but she drinks a lot! So, I’ll pass on that dinner date.

Day 42 of sobriety. Nearing closer to day 50. Turned down alcohol yesterday without a second thought. Feels good. Still having nightmares about breaking my sobriety nearly every night though. The feeling of dread in that imaginary timeline where I go back to being an alcoholic is like being smothered in a completely miserable inescapable hell, and it motivates me to never drink again. I could do with some good dreams though, I've seen enough of that hell. I'm not even myself in those nightmares anymore, I become an empty shell.16

IWilltakeback........hey, been there done that.........you aren't different, its normal . The first month or so, its challenging , however as the time goes on.........its a breeze....... The dreams, the concerns that you are having are the norm. Its at a point now, its not even a thought.......I have been to parties and get togethers where there is booze and it has no impact.....nada........just do your part in the process.........just keep making sure you don't give in and in time it will be yours.............I went for 10 years and nada..........started a bit, noticed that I was looking at the clock wondering if it was too soon to have some wine.............red flag.........Just stay strong, you're not alone..........best wishes13

My weight bounced up after a rather snacky night but, again, I am cutting myself some slack. It was EXACTLY the sort of night I would have had a lot of wine in the past. I have tried to do away with late night snacking altogether but sometimes it really is the better of two evils!8

This weekend was our first beautiful - no coat needed - Spring day.
So - on Saturday - I did a planned hour "sprint" bike ride on the MKT and KATY trails. Due to past flooding I had to carry my bike about 1/4 mile, but, oh well. At about 45 minutes, I got a flat. It was my first one ever - I mean like in over 10 years. Of course I had no tubes or patches so I ran/walked mike bike back the last 2.5 miles.
Then - on Sunday - I started my running program and banged out 4 miles (because my bike still had a flat). I hate running, but like complaining about running even more - so it works out. (My quads are barking at me today!)
What is missing from my Sat./Sun. summary is going home AFTER the workouts and getting bourbon-hammered for the rest of the day/evening. Although my ice cream intake was much higher than normal
FWIW - Now that I am AF, I am loving how strong I feel now when training and how fast I recover.

I have a love/hate relationship with running, too. I hate it while it is going on, but LOVE the way I feel after. Except the half marathon... I hated the way that felt, except the satisfaction of finishing.7 -

Today I have been working on perspective.
I am trying to develop coping skills and this is the one I am working on. Arming my tool belt with the tools to keep be sober!!
