What nobody tells you about losing weight

How much more stronger you'll become...mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally and even financially and all the other "ally's" too. You will catch yourself doing/being/thinking counter-productive "mess" and stand against and u p to what you once used to "bow down" to, when you were obese/overweight and feeling all sorry for yourself and all easily offended and whatnot...those days will be over or at the very least, almost over, because what/how you used to feel about yourself will change...for the BETTER--you'll become STRONGER baby--yes you will!18

That when your leggings get looser than you realized, your iPhone will fall out of the back pocket into the toilet. 😭😭😭27

The slower we lose weight, the better. It is challenging to look into the mirror and see a total stranger, albeit a much more attractive stranger, when we move from obese to slender. People treat us so much better when we are thinner and more attractive, and that is so confusing. It's like they are throwing rose petals in your path as you walk, when before they would not even sit next to you.
Going into a store to dress ourselves becomes challenging because in the past regular department stores did not carry our sizes. As we try to figure out our smaller new size and what looks attractive on our new body shape, we are again in a state of confusion. GO SLOW TO GO FAST. There are so many adjustments to be made when we become thinner and it is so much easier when the process slows down.21 -
Re:I wanted to wait until I was done losing weight and had maintained for at least 6 months. I don't want to have to have it resized repeatedly, it's already been resized once (to make it bigger). The metal can only be manipulated so much. [/quote]
Time for a "decoy" ring. Meaning a lower sentemental or costume piece, that looks nice. Time to go to the safety deposit box Unless you don't mind losing it.2 -
That your feet will/may shrink as get to your final or close to final goal weight. When I was obese and even overweight, I ALWAYS wore a solid 8.5 shoe. In rare instances I would take a size 8. I try on size 8's now and they swallow my feet, I'm now buying sizes 7.5 and even have some size 7's now as well. When I was young and skinny as a stick many moons ago, I wore a size 6-6.5 shoe. Wow...my feet size shrank (and yours may too)11

No one told me that when I go to buy sale clothing, I have trouble finding sizes in my smaller sizes since I am now wearing things the same size as everyone else. I used to save on the bigger sizes---there were more of them on the racks!9

- no longer panicking about getting on a plane in fear the seatbelt will not fit me!
- you have inspired people!
- people around you are just waiting for you to gain the weight back (sorry! it's been 2 years now!)
- how difficult it is to not feel like the "fat person" you once were
- food tastes different now! some better, some terrible
- everyone wants your clothes that do not fit anymore - I have given away SO MUCH CLOTHES over the past 2 years

Unfortunately, I've had the opposite reaction. I lost the first 35lbs (of 42lbs) rather quickly, over 6 months. I retained my boobs.
Lost 7lbs over the next 6 months, lost my boobs.
Of course, I'm also a lot closer to my ultimate goal. I'm down into the "normal" body fat range (by estimates, haven't had dexa or anything). It may just be that my body held on to my boobs as long as it had "extra" fat, but when I got down to less fat they had to go.3 -

Do you also carry a lot of weight in your arms? I hold a lot of weight in my top half and I'm hoping that, while it may come last, that I'll lose some in the chest and arms.3 -
I'm thicker through the middle now than when I was the same weight in college, 25 years ago. The unexpected cool thing (what qualifies as my 'what nobody told you') is that everybody thinks I look amazing now, as compared with by family members and girlfriends who maintained steady weights but now in their 40s are self-evidently thicker through the middle (fat-to-muscle ratio has shifted over the years even if weight hasn't changed much). It's a weird psychological tricke middle aged and 'getting hotter' as opposed to looking like you're starting to be middle aged ...
That middle ground is such a battle!
I take inspiration from Jennifer Gardner (actress) who has an amazing sculptered bod after three kids and pushing middle aged. Pretty sure she acheived it at the gym and not at the plastic surgeon! Lol

It has also started feeling like I have Tardis clothing. It looks too small to fit, but it always does so it has to be bigger on the inside, right?
So much this! I keep looking at my jeans when I pick them up and doing a double take. Yet I still look heavy to myself, it’s seeing those jeans that makes it sink in!

That as you lose weight, people seem to notice you more.
This is a really odd one as when I was huge, I was apparently pretty well invisible. Ignored by all, which was fine by me.
Now I've lost weight, more people say "good morning " to me, or make random comments or will ask me for directions, even though there are other people around.
I actually don't like talking to random strangers and tend not to look at people when I'm out and about and I'm not particularly friendly to randoms. So I don't understand it.19 -

Not specifically, mostly my boobs and lower belly (also a lot of loose skin), product of having 3 babies in a short time frame and breastfeeding a lot.
I will say the "last 5lbs" has made my arms look a lot thinner though. More than my hips/legs. Come to think of it, the last bit of fat has helped my upper body more than my lower body.5 -

I got this, too... It was like I hit some specific barrier right about 220 pounds.. Suddenly, men and women both, seemed to see me... holding doors, saying hello, the whole thing. It used to be if people noticed me at all they quickly looked away - but, once I hit the magic size 18-20, it was as if I had been dropped into another universe... where I wasn't invisible anymore. SO weird.
I figured it had to be because suddenly I was a "relatable" size... before I was so huge as to be foreign... but when I got to size 18-20, suddenly I was "the same size as Aunt Jean," or "smaller than my Sister"... or whatever. I hit a range where someone they knew existed, and I was no longer a foreign entity.26 -
I lost 90 pds in 1 year (still have 30 to hit my goal)...
1. Certain things become so easy. Ex: painting your toes, tying your shoes, etc.
2. Now I get when people say it is cold. I used to be warm all the time...
3. You even lose weight in your feet. You will change size.
4. Sorry for this but... cleaning up after bathroom trips is different 🤭😜
5. You will wake up feeling really rested bc the quality of your sleep will be 10 x better.
6. It will help regulate your hormones...
I have so many, the list can go on and on... lol20 -

I'm really hoping for this part. Mine were really off a few months ago according to bloodwork.

What I'd forgotten about was... tying my jacket around my hips. Not my waist because that was the smallest part that had hope of fitting, but my hips. Not only tying my jacket around them, but not having to pull the arms / stretch them so to tie them. I tied them and still had enough length to make little knot tails. It was strange to be comfortable with my jacket around my hips, too. Like it fit and it wasn't going to slip off or was too tight or anything.
Anyway, it was kind of an NSV moment and kind of a moment of "I'd forgotten what this feels like."
Some days I feel huge. Some days I feel normal. Small changes like this (maybe not so small) remind me that I am smaller than I feel I am.18 -
That you will wait, with baited breath for spring and summer to come. When I was obese and even overweight...spring and summer were times of the year I not only dreaded, but was a source of sheer unadulterated UGH. Not only for the yuck of finding something to wear, but just not feeling good in my "skin" and how I look and felt about myself. Now, I'm thrilled for spring and summer, just like when I was young. Seriously, forever ridding oneself of the weight will help you change in so many other ways...so fabulous getting down to size is. It's worth ALL the time, and trouble to get it off and keep it off--FOR REAL!25

After loosing 75 lbs in one year with 30 to go to hit my goal:
1) I can tie my shoes without having to sit down first.
2) I can walk up stairs without getting "winded"
3) I can mow my lawn and maintain the garden without taking breaks
4) I don't smell like bacon when I sweat
5) I am always cold...
6) I can see the blood vessels in my arms... turns out I have garden hoses for blood vessels.
7) I no longer have never ending hemorrhoids
These are all positive things about losing weight; with the exception of #5 but one thing NO ONE tells you (maybe because its too much information) is that:
8) your sex drive goes through the roof. As does your anxiety level because there is literally NOTHING you can do to calm things down. I have tried everything I can think of and none of it works.... it really is frustrating.16 -

Sure there is. Take a SSRI anxiolytic for that anxiety known to kill libido. Thousands (millions?) of people do every day...
Pretty sure that's all I can say without getting flagged off the boards for impropriety. First world problems being what they are and all, lol.

Sitting with your legs crossed is the most comfortable thing ever. For twenty years I was too fat to comfortably cross my legs, and I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I LIVED.
(I used to sit with my belly brushing the edge of my desk. Now I can cross my legs under it and still have space left over. That's weird.)24 -

Hahaha yeah first world problems exactly.
I should be thrilled about reason 8 since before losing the weight I found more pleasure in a cheeseburger than sex and thats just simply not right. 😂
But I’d rather have the anxiety than start popping pills. 🤣9 -

It's kind of funny how fat loss seems to go. My boobs are always the first to go. My stomach being dead last. As a matter of fact, I'm going in for the last 10 (maybe 15) lbs by summer/fall right now. They're deflating again! Gah! But when I maintained my current weight for 6 months, they did seem to fill in a little. So maybe they'll come back again.. I hope.2 -

I feel y our pain; my boobs are always the first to go! It's how I decided on my maintenance weight, in the end; I'm not entirely happy with the amount of fat around my belly/hips/thighs, but I absolutely know that if I try to dip any lower my body'll take it from my boobs first. And I don't have any boobs left to lose. I'm BMI 23 but you can see my ribs, for pity's sake...
Oh well, in the great scheme of things it's a minor annoyance. And the reason padded bras exist7 -

Right there with ya! I was so excited to have a little fullness when I was bulking. Now that I'm cutting... :sad:3 -
When I lost weight years ago I ended up buying silicone bra inserts to keep from being completely flat chested. They're annoying to wear but helped my clothes fit better.8

I feel your pain. There’s the initial excitement of having boobs stick out farther than your stomach, then the boobs deflate. I’m hoping to keep belly in check enough to keep it even & keep building some chest muscle, since I have more muscle than boob and my stomach would have to be concave at this point to let them have any glory. And then there’s the issue of having too much back/shoulder muscle to let you comfortably fit in the training bra size that actually fits, cup wise 🙄
