The talk about the number of moves had me thinking about my own life. I've lived in 9 homes. 4 with my parents. 3 with my 1st husband. 1 on my own.
➡️ And currently in my longest lived home - with my husband since 1987. We built this home. Husband had the frame built. Then, he did some of the Sheetrock by himself. Then I joined him and we finished it - while living in it. We even changed a few things as we built it.
Its a stilt house - like a beach house. (On 3 acres.) The entire ground level footprint base plus some is enclosed as garage and workshops. Wood shop for hubby and a studio for me. Plus we have a pump house for our water well and it stores a few garden tools. A pole barn with boat shed. Goat pen. Chicken pen. Pig pen. Duck pond. 2 vegetable gardens. We added a bacony/deck/porch/patio for Mom (92) in 2012. We've got a wrap-around deck/porch around the front. And... hubby added a screened porch to the back of the barn. We've got chickens, ducks, a pot-bellied pig and 2 tiny goats. We've had a lot of fun and love our life here. We don't plan to move. We may need to add an elevator or lift of some kind - but so far we make it up and down the stairs to get to the front door. ❤

Okie, and the rest. Rebecca was right, that the military moves were easy, as they pack you up, and then bring you your stuff at your next duty station. The rest - not so easy - and varying amounts of stuff. Someone else said it was an opportunity to think about what you own, and that much has been absolutely true of the last dozen or so of those my. Your attachment starts boiling down to what brings you joy, as Marie Kondo says, or the more practical decision of what will actually fit.
Military movers pack EVERYthing. If you're not careful, they will pack your trashcan, with the trash still in it. I've gotten utterly sick of making decisions about everything I own, and end up making them all twice, as I always started a few months ahead by having a garage sale - where you have to look at everything and decide whether to keep it or sell it. Then, when you're a month out, you have to decide whether to pack it or keep it out for your use in the meantime. Then, near the day, when things won't fit in whatever you're moving in (and I've moved in everything from my car when I left my now-ex-husband, to a pickup truck and an SUV with the current and final husband, to a fifth wheel trailer, to a ten-foot box trailer), you must decide whether to give it up or throw it away.
It's honestly one of the weirder things about being here, in what we're both starting to call our "forever home." We are thinking YEARS out, instead of months away. I've never done that before. For all my nearly sixty years, other than the ten years from 2nd to 12th grade, I have never spent more than a few years ANYwhere. I'm not sure I know how to be this person.
Ah well - my lack of motivation on this day led to what was obviously a badly needed three-hour nap, not something I've done in months. Feel a little more ready to face a day that's pretty much three-quarters over already, though...

Hello Friends and thank you all for your concern about my sprained ankles. The 6.5 hour drive wasn't the best therapy, but at least with cruise control I was able to periodically bend and stretch my legs and feet. Once home, I started RICE, plus Aleve, plus soaking in epsom salt, plus applications of arnica gel and light stretching. I used a Reiki guided meditation, have stayed in bed for 23 hours a day, only getting up to use the bathroom and to make DH a simple meal. Today, I can report that both feet and ankles have decreased from the size of oranges to moderately swollen. The pain is down from a tear-inducing 8 to a 4. DH has a hard time understanding why we are not picking up Mars the Leash Loving Cat from the pet hotel, and his dementia has been more pronounced since we got home. He didn't know where he was for the first 12 hours we were back. In my present situation, I can't really take good care of both of them, so for now, Mars will hang out a few more days in his comfy cottage looking out the window at animals and people. He's a mellow fellow and loves the extra attention he gets from strangers.
I will get myself an appointment for xrays this coming week, as an inner voice is telling me the left foot may be fractured. Hope not. I've had lots of ankle sprains, mostly from hiking and tennis, so for a long time have kept up the exercises and alphabet in the air stretches physical therapists taught me. This injury feels different, and somewhere in this experience there is some kind of lesson for me.
Lisa: You traveled with a carnival???? Would love to hear more about that!
Energy and hugs to all who need them to heal, to pack, to exercise, to manage your food cravings and to maintain your radiant good health.

(((Rori))) I feel such admiration for you!
Janet, you look great. I see someone else on here doesn't understand the 'Woo" button because I know they meant that as an admiration.
DH made me go to the Urgent Clinic this afternoon because he thought the water proof bandage looked *kitten*. The doctor took it off and said he was correct. Not real bad but bad enough to warrant antibiotics. Now it is wrapped up with gauze and I may have to go back to my Ortho Doc tomorrow. Wasn't supposed to go back until Thursday.

Awe, I understand that, "ok I have been here for 3 years, I'm getting that itch to move", feeling! I have a bunch of nice shopping bags, ( that I always seem to forget when I go grocery shopping), and I shall use them for all my pantry items. 👍

Snowflake: When I have chills I cuddle under covers with an old fashioned hotwater bottle. Nothing works better for me. Aspirin or ibuprophen are helpful if there is a fever but I rarely ever have a fever. If I'm really sick, my temperature seems to drop below normal.
(((Rori))) Your plans for taking care of your ankles seem sensible. I hope that all goes well. I fractured both wrists in separate falls a few years go. They’re in good working order now, but sometimes they ache at night and I take ibuprophen. I am so sorry to hear that your DH is having a hard time readjusting to being at home.
Rebecca: If you ever decide to go into business as a move planner, I’ll bet you have loads of ways to help people manage packing and unpacking.
I went riding today and Arrow wasn’t a particularly good boy. He did nothing really naughty but he was hungry and kept snatching bites of grass in the field where we were riding. It was irritating for me, so I started keeping his head up. It worked but he wasn’t a believer and kept trying to snatch a bite of grass. That gave me a bit of a work out for my back and arms. I’m at home now, and very happy that I went for the ride.

My carnival story:The carnival was a product of my misspent youth... In 1978, I was living with the man I called my husband (he was not). We broke up, and in a fit of pique, he got a job with the carnival that happened to be in town, and left. A few weeks later, he came back to sweep me off my feet and take me with him. In an ancient (borrowed) black Rambler station wagon with radio-type, push-button gears. For an 18-year-old over-dramatic soul, it was the height of romance. In retrospect, it was pretty tatty living. While we traveled from one place to another, I picked up part-time money running the quarter push joints, and the elephant kiddie rides, and got a cut of the proceeds when I juggled baseballs in front of the baseball throw and brought customers in to spend their money.
When the carnival sloughed (rhymes with plowed, means went into winter hiatus), I got a job waiting tables at a Denny's in Albuquerque. He and I and the guy who ran the baseball throw were living in the Westward Ho motel--I recognize the irony, but refuse to comment on it. I basically supported the three of us for a few months, then decided I was done. He followed me to the restaurant, broke my nose in front of a room full of people, and then ran before the cops showed up. Once he was gone, I got a bus ticket home to East Texas, and proceeded to lose enough weight to finish up my enlistment and go in the Air Force. Spent my 19th birthday in basic training.
That's the short version. I've been fortunate enough to have lived a number of lives during this one, and looking back, when there was an adventure to be had, I jumped for that brass ring every time. They weren't all pretty endings, but not for lack of trying on my part.
Carol - so glad your husband convinced you to go in and get your dressing checked - hope the antibiotic works it's magic. Take care of yourself!

Did an hour of balance games on the Wii. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of the AM Yoga DVD then take the extremepump class.
Ginny – wonderful walk!
Had a bit of a crying spell thinking about Bryan. Hoping to get the cat’s nails trimmed today and finish rescreening the porch. Gotta call Lowes foods. I was told that you didn’t have to have a minimum order for their Lowes to Go. There is Gatorade on a 3 day sale. I wonder if they’ll let me buy it and pick it up Mon or Wed. Update: didn't rescreen the porch. Hopefully, Thurs or maybe even Wed. before ceramics. Called Lowes Foods. Yes, I can get just the gatorade. But it will cost me (in add'n to the Gatorade) $5. Not worth it. Did trim the cat's nails. Also inflated my float for the pool. Didn't go in the spa.
Bars – my father owned a tavern!
Heather – are you SURE it’s a UTI? Hope it isn’t
Janetr – I’m so sorry about your friend. I can only guess that they are feeling that the tumor is cancer and she wants to enjoy the time she has. Maybe that’s the reason they’re going?
Looks like I haven’t moved all that much. Lived in a 2-family home with my grandparents, then moved to our home, then moved to an apartment after my mother died, moved to my one-room place after graduating, then an apartment, another apartment after we got married, our first home, moved to PA, then moved to lower PA, now moved to NC where when I move again it’ll be because the kids are putting me in a home … lol. So I guess that’s 10 moves in all. Not that many
Rori – if your foot is fractured at least it’s the left foot and you can still drive. I’m sorry to hear about your husband
Carol – yea for your husband.

Rori-I also hope you get good news on your ankles-this would be a good case of being wrong!
LisainAR-very interesting carnival story! The broken nose you could have done without (actually the whole thing could have ended much worse). Good thing you got away from that and got back on track.
Good day today. Church this am. Came home, did a few things, took a nap on the couch for about half an hour. I keep waking up at 4:30 or so every morning-doesn't matter when I go to sleep. I don't mind 5:15 or so, but 4:30 is ridiculous. Since I was up, got 30 minutes in on treadmill and my stretches/weights before 8:30 service (I stay to sign anthem at beginning of 10:30 service).
After nap thought I would take quick walk to get me to my 10,000 for the day (was planning like 20-30 minutes). Didn't want to go for 2 hour walk again. Well, I just started walking, listening to music and got an hour in. It seems like once I get going, I just want to keep it up. Since walking really is my major exercise, I shouldn't complain. And the time is no different than if I were spending an hour in a gym (and I really prefer being outside). Ending day with 14,300 -ish.
Off to work tomorrow. Another 4 day work week. Have a medical appointment for a nerve test Friday, so I will take the whole day. I am at the point where if I do not use some time, I will lose it (we can keep up to three years balance on the books, I earn 5 weeks a year, so yes, I am hovering around 15 weeks vacation on the book). Working on getting better with that, but I will be paid out balance when I retire so don't want to use all of it at this point.
Wishing everyone a good start to the week.

My father was in the Coast Guard and we lived in NY, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico, Southern California, Florida, New Jersey, and Northern California before I went to college in Minnesota then in Maryland. My first job was in Okinawa. Later I came back and lived in six different houses in four different towns in California before moving to Washington where we lived in a rental, then a house for five years before moving in 2011 into the house we're in now.
I planted the dahlia bulb my friend gave me and then Jake ordered 70 bluebell bulbs and 70 tulip bulbs to plant in the fall. I buy almost nothing for myself but I am a sucker for buying bulbs.
Rori, I admire how you've handled your ankle injury along with caring for your husband.
Ginny, great walking. Having something pleasant to listen to makes walking so much more fun.

Hi Gals,
The weekend here is almost over… I basically embroidered all weekend. But getting caught up… A busy week ahead, but that’s ok .
I love reading about how everyone is doing and the ups and downs.. Moves – wow! I moved twice before I was 18, and have lived in the same house for 27 years… but in between 18 and 33 I moved a LOT, for 3 years I house sat – I had no where “really” to live so I moved from house sitting job to house sitting job – I would move 3-5 times each month. But with no rent I saved a ton towards a down payment for a house. I had all my stuff in a storage unit. Some of the stuff I did not even recognize when I got it out…
I love being settled; but honestly am looking forward to the next move. It will be interesting to look for a place, probably 5 years from now. When I bought this house it was a “starter” home no intention to stay here, and it is not what I want for retirement, it has too much maintenance (a large yard) and the layout is not great for entertaining. And I love to do that.

FINALLY!!!!! I don't need anything else to happen. Took me 5 tries to get to the site/thread here. Finally had to ask Google where you were. Twenty months since I was able to drive. We live 6 miles from the PO in Dawson and in Terrell County and Bronwood where we still get mail (I place my online medicine there so it won't sit out in the box at the house. I've lived in 7 towns (one for a 2nd time and had to make new friends - like Thomas Wolfe, you really never can come/go home again). Two apartments, 5 houses. Always thought we would retire to the beach somewhere. Now we are in "PoDunk Dawson/Bronwood" Haven't made friends with others (I guess it has been my choice). Love living in the country; but, if I am told that my driving days are over (20 months by the time I see my Neurologist). I'd really like for Louis to go with me for that appointment so that everyone is on the same dance page ... not that I look forward to that decision; but, at least we will make a joint decision. It is so 'confining' to not be able to go on my timeline; and, inconvenient for Louis and/or Trey to come to get me and back home again. I try to make all my appointments in the early mornings. I've missed being here; just haven't had anything 'new' happening. Working on my glassed-in porch and it is beginning to fall into place. Louis needs to talk to the carpenter he has worked with a lot to get him to come out here and give us a quote and make time for him to finish it. Still, have just the bottom half of my dishwasher. Kids next door are getting a new kitchen and maybe some other room fixed. ServePro told the adjuster that there was NO way to dry underneath the lower cabinets and replacing the bottom ones without replacing the top one would look 'stupid', so he finally agreed. All from a washer that would not stop filling up unless you did it by hand to stop it and take it to the next cycle.
Bye, I should have been in bed an hour ago.

Well all kitchen cabinets are empty, only 5 boxes, and a couple of bags.👍 I still want to get into my baking stuff. I have a bunch of reusable bags for my foods in the pantry cabinet, and 2 drawers still.
My son is re-organizing his Legos, and its like a crazy puzzle he is doing. He has a lot of the original boxes so it looks chaotic!

coastalgosgal wrote: »Thanks Katla for the nice words. Lisa, its a chaotic journey when you list it, isn't it? Military moves are not so bad, even the major ones. Big burly men come in and pack your stuff! I did have some Japanese movers take way too long packing my husband's books though in one move. My husband had some tasteful lingerie books, Vargas girls and such. I remember leaning in and catching them, HA! I think I scared the bejesus outta them!I
I made $10 selling about 6 items that I wasn't using. Some presto logs, (we're moving into a house with gas fireplace), my paint pens, 2 umbrellas, and other things. I have not used an umbrella since we moved to the Pacific Northwest! Natives don't use them, as my raincoat has a hood. I posted items in my virtual yard sale sites, and people connected with me in private chat, and I have them the address to have them pick them up. Easy peasy!

Good for you! I had to laugh about the umbrella comment. I never used an umbrella when I lived here before, but after returning from a 30 year absence, I use one now! I think using one betrays me as a transplant. Lol

Heather, 10k seems very impressive to me. I did a women’s 6K in a women's race a few years go.
Here is a question, for any who wish to answer:
What do you set mfp at for base calories, to be able to lose weight?
(of course it depends partly on size, i’m 5’2”)
Do you adjust "calories burnt" ?
I just realized that mfp’s calculation for calories burnt during exercise is too high for me.
I read: “the calorie goals we calculate for you are based on statistical average”
When I went to another site, which takes into account height, age, gender, and weight, I burned about 100 calories less than mfp had me at yesterday.
(mfp had me at 554 calories for 1h30 of exercise – elliptical, weight training, and steps). 454 still seems high to me.
So I guess one solution would be to reduce the net calories setting on MFP by 100 to aim for an overall balance.
What do you think?
net average daily calories per day this past weekend according to mfp 1450
weight up 4 lbs in three days according to scale.
highest weight in 30+ years, even higher than 2 days ago when I joined you : 0.9 lbs up.
BMI 24.8
Yesterday according to mfp my net calories was 1290.
I managed to eat lean protein and veggies instead of starch and sweets when craving at end of day. That’s some progress.
When I stand up in morning I feel groggy.
✔️1. weighed self: 61.2 k (134.9 lbs)
✔️2.a tracked all yesterday

x 6. Take care of at least one short term (1 pagish) writing or administrative task/bill. didn’t

about number of homes I think I have lived in 17 places. Most moves were between age 18 and mid 30s, when I would move every 1-3 years. I have been in same place for 19 years. I expect to move in 2-3 years. I have mixed feelings about next move.1

Moved 6 times and lived in this house for 50 years in October.
Re UTIs some of you will know that I nearly died a few years ago through untreated UTI. I was on long term low dose antibiotic until end of last year. I saw the consultant and she no longer advocates antibiotic but recommended a food supplement called D-Mannose taken daily with a probiotic. This is working for me. Can't get on prescription but there is something called Hiprex which is not an antibiotic and can be prescribed.

Morning! Happy to be going back to work (lol) today after a weeklong break. I faced my friend's birthday brunch yesterday with a fair amount of anxiety, DH added to it, of course. His hearing is very poor (deaf in left ear) and noisy rooms are particularly challenging for him. So we get to this cute little bistro with a party space upstairs right along the river, my bff put beautiful flower arrangements on each table but the one couple we were expecting to be there that we kind of knew cancelled We soldiered on, I gamely told DH we would mingle with at least 3 couples before sitting down- check, once seated, we made sure to pass our names around and I asked the question, "how did you meet BFF?" and off to the races the conversations started flying. I also asked the question, "what have you been obsessed with lately?" this conversation starter worked as well and got DH into a 15 minute tear about cars, I was so proud of us!!! And yes, relieved when it was over I did overeat desserts out of nervousness and paid for it with heartburn all night But.....what lessons did we learn?......DH refuses to admit he learned anything (typical) but I learned that even when I'm anxious I can tread water socially. So there, take that social anxiety, I am growing up!!!
Moving, I've lived in Phila, DC, Mass., NYC and Westchester County. Usually schooling or work related moves. The next move we make will be about downsizing and retirement adventures, probably within the next 5 years. Hmmm ... moves. Just added them up and I think I've lived in 24 different places across 4 Canadian provinces and 2 Australian states. 25 if you lump in the 3 months I cycled around Australia in 2004. 26 if you lump in the 8 months we travelled around the world in 2012.
We've lived where we are for nearly 5 years now! That's a record for my husband and me. Normally, I would be itching to move, but we've had enough excitement in the last year or so ... right now I'm happy to stay where we are for now.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Slept well last night, even after my three-hour sleep yesterday afternoon, and feeling great.
Kate in UK - Love the socks! And regarding them not being perfect, there's an old Native American proverb that basically says when you create something perfect, the gods get angry, as only they can create perfection. So, when people point out a mistake of mine, I simply say, "Oh yes, I do that on purpose. Don't want to tick off the gods, you know... "
Edging out of April eight pounds lighter than I went in. So, eight of the nine pounds I regained in March are gone, and am grateful for that. And, as always, grateful for all of you...

Well done!!
That's pretty much how I progressed too!
Then I did a 10K in January 2018 and a half-marathon in January 2019.
