Good morning ladies. I overate yesterday, but logged it honestly. Today is a new day, and me, hubs and the canine companions are going hiking. I have a small pork roast and cabb age in the crockpot. Ever onward.

Good morning Barb and friends. Hope everyone has a great week. I've been on and off MFP for almost 9 yrs. I like having to be accountable for my food intake. Through bad choices I have gone from 158 to 190 in about 6 months. Now to reverse it. I said I would not gain the weight back but here I am. I'm going to try doing Body Groove as I can't get down on floor because of back problems. I enjoyed reading some of the posts on here. My two faults are chocolate and pasta. It doesn't seem possible to cut them out. I'm trying to eat more vegetables. Any help is good.5

And boom, it's Sunday. I'm playing catch-up.
Machka - and any of you who have nice walking trails away from traffic.... I am jealous. We have a nice groomed trail in town that goes for miles and miles, but I don't want to have to drive ten miles to get there. So my walks are generally confined to early mornings, down our 1/4 mile paved private road then on to the highway for a jaunt and then down another private road. Early in the morning there's not much traffic. Not much of a shoulder though on the main highway and the log trucks swoosh by so I try to stay off it as much as possible. Good thing - up and down our private road twice is a mile and NO traffic. Plus seems like no one opens their drapes here before 8 so I have the world to myself, lol. Would prefer it be near the beach tho!
Rebecca - when I first came into this group, I kept notes....mainly names and where folks were from and just a couple interesting facts about each person. It really helped. Which reminds me.... new gals, would you please add your names and location at the end of EACH post? It really helps you stick in my brain, lol. Some kind of photo helps too, even cats or flowers. Of course I know Pip has her boot and lives not far from me near Tacoma so I never forget that!
NYKaren - that Boomer Expo is a great idea!! I'm going to steal this and run it by the local seniors group, maybe even the local college would be willing to sponsor something like it.
Lisa - that new car is awesome, and what a great deal! Hope your doc visit in productive.
Carol - very happy that your recover from knee surgery is going so well!

Sharon - congrats on your loss and thank you for sharing the info about your calorie-counting mom. I went through similar. I was the chubby kid and my dad thought I needed to be slim like my older sister. Very critical of what and how much I ate so I became a secret snacker. Turns out once I hit puberty I shot up to 5' 9", way past my skinny 5' 4" sister.
So during my teens, Twiggy was the rage and so were diet pills (amphetamines) and there was a doctor in town who handed them out like candy. I took them for a while during my high school years, which was easier than counting calories, and graduated high school at around 155 lbs. Still thought I was fat. I was a farm girl and had a lot of muscle.
Beth - I instantly related to your story. 5' 8" and 150 lbs was perfect.
My weight went up and down, as high as 190+ several times and as low as 129 which was my weight when got married after literally starving myself for several months. Anorexia was popular then as well.
I managed to keep my weight in line with Weight Watchers throughout my life - when I'd hit a new high, I'd march back in there and return to goal. I have a thick packet of all the weight log books I've collected throughout the years.
I decided to stop drinking after I retired several years (loved beer) and that plus this group -SWSY, MFP logging, etc., helped me get my weight under control so now I tend to keep between 160 and 165 - I don't mind being at the high end of the BMI. And my goal is no longer about weight on the scale, it's about getting and keeping healthy. And fitting into my jeans.

Barbara, the reason I find it easy to include meditation every day just like brushing my teeth is that I've found a time in the day to do it regularly. It happens while the oven is preheating for my supper. It used to happen immediately after my breakfast but now I sleep later and don't have the time before my friend comes to walk with the dogs and me.
Lanette, You reminded me of how grateful I am for my neighborhood with private roads where I can walk with the dogs or with a friend with almost no traffic at any time during the day.
I gave up alcohol completely after it caused me more problems than I wanted. It was a good decision, but not an easy one.

Regarding alcohol ... I've never been a drinker. Had my first drink when I was something like 27 years old, and didn't really like it. I've been a drink at Christmas and maybe our anniversary kind of person.
However, since my husband had his accident and we became aware of just how bad alcohol is for the brain, we don't touch the stuff. It's been over a year for both of us since we've had any. His Drs attribute some of his "remarkable recovery" to the lack of alcohol + fitness. He's not 100% and will not likely ever be, but he has come much further than initially predicted!!
Regarding fast food ... with the exception of Zambreros and occasionally Subway, we hardly ever go to a fast food place. Since 2015, we decided we'd rather save our money and go to a restaurant with better food. After not eating at a fast food place for about a year and a half, we stopped in at a Hungry Jacks (you know them as Burger King) ... and it was awful!! So we haven't done that again.
However, we can still overeat other food ... as evidenced by what the scale is telling me recently:

Hello all-
DH and I went to a friend's birthday party last night and I didn't overdo it! I was even able to have some carrot cake! Lifting weights in the morning helped! Today is a running day-I probably shouldn't call it running-more like a very slow trot:). I was initially following a training plan that called for running 30 seconds then walking for 60 seconds 10 times, then building up. I'm doing my own plan now. I've worked up to 9 minutes running, 45 seconds walking 4 times. I've really hit a plateau, but I'm fine with that! I don't love it, but I don't hate it as much as I used to.
I haven't had a drink (alcohol) in almost 20 years. Don't miss it or the calories!

Walked into central Hove for lunch with my girlfriend. About 20 minutes. Had a fabulous kebab lunch. I asked for a half portion of rice. Just an espresso for dessert. I did have a beer.
Then we walked into Brighton, about 25 minutes, where my friend bought three bags of stuff. Came back to my house on the bus. She's gone home to beat the rush hour.
I'm counting 150 extra bonus calories for the walking.
500 for the lunch. So not too bad.
Will go AF tonight. I have fake pink wine in the fridge. It's delicious. Low calorie too.
I'm cooking seabass with a spread of Gotchujan sauce, broccoli and mashed butter beans with garlic. DH has potatoes.
All good.
Lisa - Don't you just love a new car! The warranty on ours includes 5 years free service. They even come to your door to pick it up and bring it back! They clean it etc. We have not spent a penny extra on any of our cars after purchase. And the trade in is good too. DH only uses it for his journey to cricket, but it's good to have peace of mind.

Sharon - I like the idea of being used for science. We have been having this discussion at my house recently and neither of us have reached any decisions. My Dad was the first person close to me that was cremated, the tradition in our family was always burial. I don’t like that Dad was cremated, it feels different to me and I know that logically it doesn’t even make sense to me. My husband want to be planted as a tree. My concern is where do you plant it? How can people go visit you after if they want? We have different ideas on where to be planted. Apparently a lot more work and thought needs to be put into this.
Lisa - congratulations on the new car.
Machka - those are three different documents in my world too. I hope you start feeling better soon. The flu my hubby had last week is still causing chills for him too.
Lanette - I am like you and wish I have more secluded trails to walk. I live in a city though and like you would have to drive to walk on a trail. That makes no sense to me. Although, there is a neighbouring town that has stairs that I am seriously thinking of doing. It is a 20 minute drive to get there.
My Mother was overweight and I remember her trying different things to lose weight. One I remember the most is Aids caramel chews. I used to eat them just because they tasted good. My Grandmother, Moms Mom, was a tiny woman. She weighed herself every Sunday morning faithfully, if she was over 110 she would eat grapefruit for breakfast and cut back all that week. She did this all her life. I wish I had her discipline. Weight wasn’t really discussed a lot and no one did any judging that I remember growing up, however, my Dad got judgmental in his later years and would make comments if someone gained weight.
As for alcohol, we rarely drink in our house. We are not adverse to it, but we both grew up with Fathers that indulged a bit much. My Father stopped when I was in grade 3, Rodger’s Dad still drinks some but not to excess. I scared myself when I was 18 and realized that I had been drinking almost every night for 3 months. I broke up with my alcoholic boyfriend and have never looked back.
Today I am going to visit a cousin I haven’t seen for a while. I am also going to finish a Mother’s Day card and hopefully make another one. Tonight Rodger takes over the tv for shows I don’t watch so I will huddle up in the craft room.

Hello Ladies.
Newbie here.
I'm Liz from northern Wisconsin. I love living in the woods. My woods are my happy place.
I just turned 50 in February. I have to say, I have been surprised at how much it has empowered me. For the first time in my life, I really don't care what other people think anymore. It's so liberating.
Anyway, I also celebrated 11 years of marriage to my best friend and love of my life in February. It is my second marriage. My first one was abusive.
We don't have any children together but I have a 27 year old son who lives with us and a five year old grandson who is with us part time. That little boy is the center of my universe. I lost my youngest son in 2011 when he was 17. He died unexpectedly from an asthma attack, though drugs were a factor. My grandson has put my heart back together. He adores me as much as I adore him. He calls me his love of joy. My son struggles with drugs and alcohol. He was there the night my son died and blames himself.
I also have four step-children - two from my first marriage and two from my second.
My husband and I do have two cats that we call our children.
I never struggled with my weight until I quit smoking over six years ago. Then I gained 60 pounds. I still need to lose 50, though I would be happy with 30.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and multiple food sensitivities including gluten, dairy, soy, legumes, oats, and eggs.
I bike. Last year I got up to 30 miles and my goal for this year is 50 miles. I also swim, lift weights, and I am trying to jog again. In the winter, I snowshoe. Thought this year the snow was too deep. We set a record for the all-time snowiest winter - almost ten feet of snow - and over half of it - 57+" - fell in February alone.
I went back to school and graduated with an associates degree in web software development in December. I am building my own business so that I can work from home which works best with my RA. I also work part time at the school I went to administering a program that connects high school students with local businesses for mentoring, career coaching, etc. And I work from home part time for a web design company owned by my brother. I am a busy woman! But I love every minute of it.
@KetoneKaren - I have PTSD from childhood and first marriage. I have found the work of Byron Katie tremendously helpful in overcoming trauma. In her books, she lays out a specific way of journaling that has been very healing for me.
@bananasandoranges - On the app, at the bottom of the diary, is a button for Nutrition. If you click on that, you can toggle to weekly view and it will show you your overall and net calories for the week so that can track weekly as well.
My goal for May is to not change anything for the entire month. I need the consistency. I have a bad habit of planting a seed and digging it up right away to see if it's growing. I am recovering from several years of designer diets - paleo, keto, vegan, intermittent fasting, high carb low fat, etc. My head got really messed up about nutrition and I think I had a touch of orthorexia. I am unwinding all of that. I have a good exercise routine. I am weighing my food and counting calories, protein, saturated fat, and fiber only. I am giving myself permission to eat anything as long as it stays within my limits. Protein is important. I want to limit saturated fat. I want to eat more fiber. And those are my only rules.
I am looking forward to being a part of this group. You sound like a great bunch of ladies!7 -

Lisa: What a cute car! I drove a Spark a few times as a rental and liked how it fit everywhere. Good for you keeping the truck, too.
Good news is I've dropped all vacation pounds and am back to my April low. This was accomplished entirely without exercise, so I'm really proud of myself for getting more disciplined and scrupulous with logging my food. Tonight is going to be special...company coming! My niece and her BF are coming for dinner and to take a little gallery walk through my living room which I recently decorated with her photography. They are wonderful people, and I wish I could prepare a proper home-cooked meal, but that would mean too much standing on two broken ankles. NOT happening. I will make the Skinnytaste shrimp cakes from scratch, but everything else will be from Walmart frozen and produce sections.
I have been meditating daily for years. I love the Insight Timer app, and use guided meditations when I am working on something particular, or just a good background music selection when I want to fully relax my mind. There are thousands of meditations to choose from, and it's free! BTW: Do not fall for the myth that you must be sitting up or on the floor to properly meditate. I do all my meditation lying flat on my back. I cover my eyes and use the back of my eyelids as my movie screen for visualization.

Hello all!
Well, I had a post done up, posted in and it then disappeared.... I logged out just after I posted and when I tried logging back in 30 or so min later, the site was down for maintenance or something and when I went back later, my post was gone. Has that ever happened to anyone else? Annoying more than anything! Going to try to remember what I wrote now, that will be the tricky part! lol
I'm a bit late to the party about "who am I?", but here goes anyway. I've enjoyed reading others stories, so thought I should share mine also.
My name is Evelyn, I will be 61 in July, still having a hard time adjusting the that new first number! I have been married for almost 38 years (in June) to a pretty great guy, he has his moments, but I'm pretty sure I do too! We have two boys, the older one is 33, married with one son and a daughter to be born pretty much any time now, the younger son is 30, confirmed bachelor, although he is living with a lady right now. He's a few provinces away, so we don't see him much at all. Our older son lives in the same area as we do, but we don't see them much either. sigh. I have battled the "bulge" pretty much all my life. The irony is, the weight I was at when I was younger is what I would dearly love to be at now and back then I thought I was too fat. My main issue is after dinner snacking, with failure to log being a close second. Funnily enough, when I don't snack my way thru the kitchen every night and log my food, I lose weight. I did log most of everything yesterday and was doing really well with my not snacking, but then fell into a (small) bowl of ice cream...... I did enjoy it tho, but I was already over, although I didn't count any of my walking as exercise. I work in a storage facility, so there can be quite a bit of walking in a day! I live on Vancouver Island, which is off the west coast of Canada.
That's me in a nutshell!

Rebecca, my husband donated his body to something called The Genesis Group. Their conditions were similar. When they had done putting his body to use, they sent me the cremated remains and a nice long letter detailing all the ways his body had been useful. It was SO satisfying! That was precisely what he wanted to happen. To be of use to the utmost that he could. And nothing cost me a penny. I don’t qualify - not because I have too much metal in my body. I have two knees and my left hip replaced, and 8 discs fused, so I get very special treatment at the airport. Langley, on Whidbey Island, has a green cemetery. No embalming, no vaults, no heavy coffin. They open your chosen gravesite, your loved ones wrap you in a favorite quilt or shroud, and you are placed in the earth, covered, and nature has its way with you. I like that idea.
it’s been a lovely day outdoors today, but I’m saving my energy for tomorrow, when I’m meeting a new group of women hosted by a friend for a Cinco de Mayo potluck and Bunco party. I’m not sure what Bunco is other than that it’s a game, but my friend is a lively cheerful woman, and I gather her friends are the same. One of the group will be missing tomorrow, so I’m the fill-in!
I weighed in at 190# even today, so another 2.8# and I’ll have lost 75 total. I’m very pleased about that! I’m also enjoying finding out who you believe you are!

What a nice thing Genisis did, sending you a letter and all. Yes, the cost (not being a burden to my family), and not making any impact is my goal. I was a blue baby when I was born, so its only fair that the medical community get my physical body. But I also like the shroud idea. I will look into that option since its on the island.

Im beat... I'm supposed to go see Toms cousin Joyce with his other cousins this afternoon,I just dont have the energy.. I found 2 wicker ethan allen chairs down in Westport which is an hour from me, and went and bought them.. made 2 new friends in the chair owner and her boyfriend we had way so many things in common and they loved Alfie.. only bummer was that Alfie threw up in the car..
So Francine Amodio ( my grandpa ) used to call me that hauled the chairs out of my car and down the hall and into my place and then had to rearrange furniture.. but they look great... I got back from Westport and then went and fed my DFIL Tom and I tag teamed and got shepards pie down him...I will let him do dinner tonight..
I honestly think I will get in my jammies early . and just relax.. I am tired...3 -

Machka ... I ran into this while traveling last week. We stopped at a fast food restaurant on the way home and I haven't eaten fast food in years and it was my only meal of the day under my 19:5 eating plan. It was my turn to drive shortly after our "meal" and I was only able to put in about 60 miles when the stomach upset started. It was horrible!! Never again!

Tracy in Edmonton: Your comment sparked a memory. My mom worked on losing weight most of her adult life. She drank a canned product called Metrical. She also did exercises with Jack La Lane on morning TV. She was always “fighting the battle of the bulge.” Exercise would have been a better choice, but she didn’t get enough oxygen for vigorous exercise due to chain smoking. :ohwell:
Rori: Congrats on getting rid of your vacation pounds, and also for the upcoming visit of your niece and her BF. :flowerforyou:
DH and I had a lovely long walk yesterday, several miles worth. The dog is still resting up from the exercise, and so is DH. The dog & I walked and DH rode his mobility scooter. We all had a good time.

Heather, sounds like you are feeling a bit better, odd that your dr won't prescribe an antibiotic for your UTI. Last time I had one, I went to the dr, he sent me for testing, but also gave me a script, just in case. Well, I filled it and within just a few hours of taking the first pill, just felt worlds better! I'm so happy for you in your new home, so nice to be so close to your son and grandkids, great memories for them! Love seeing the photos of them dressing up your hubby, he's such a good sport!
Machka, pretty yard! The jonquils and freesia will add a lot of colour under the tree. Daffodil bulbs can be on the large side, just bought some Prince (or King?) Edward ones, the plants are a bit shorter, the flowers are gorgeous! Sure hope you can shake that flu soon. I know it took hubby and I a few weeks to start feeling better, and the cough just went on forever, very annoying.
Rebecca, that is such a cute way to display baby's footprints! Hoping your packing is going well!
Rori, you are such an inspiration! I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be doing much of anything at all with two broken ankles, walking boot or not!

Good evening all (or at least it is where I am). Sitting on couch exhausted. Catching up here before I head to bed. Busy day today working in yard. Cut out some weeds, vines, etc. from Lilac bushed on back fence line. Got flower bed planted--put in new rose bush (found a yellow one), a couple of different perennials, and some annuals I bought from a local service club. Hauled the hose and storage box up from the basement so I could water everything in. Got a bit overheated with the digging (I have some weird heat intolerance due to thyroid therapy) but I took breaks and after 5 hours everything was done.
Cooked a late dinner, cleaned up, and I think that's it for the day. Going to head in an read and get an early night.
