Hahaha! I trip on his shoes constantly. I just might have a selective vision problem... or it could be the lack of coordination, or a “trip” to bathroom in the dark.2 -

The dreaded hill workout was tonight! After a day of on and off thunderstorms with major downpours, we got lucky and things cooled down a bit and cleared off for tonight's workout. Still like 90% humidity though, so we actually probably would be better off with the downpour. We did 10 minutes warmup, and then 30 minutes of hill repeats where we run hard halfway up the hill, jog back down, hard all the way up, jog back down, and repeat until time is up. Then 10 minutes cooldown on the track. No sprints on hill week, thank goodness.
I signed up for a second Spartan race in August - so I'll be doing the super (8+ miles) and the sprint (3+ miles) that weekend. Why not, right? I figure this is important training for the back to back half marathons I'm doing in October. The super will be with my gym team, but the sprint I'm running with a new friend and her team - I hope they are not sorry they invited me to join. I am prepared to be all "go on without me" if they are all young and fast .
In updating my list of upcoming races, I also realized I had forgotten to put November's Syracuse Half on there, which I signed up for ages ago (mainly because they have a cool jacket).

Updating for both yesterday and today...
Yesterday: 4.66 miles. Started off pretty good with some intervals, but on the way home, my BG tanked fast. Legs stopped working and even went out from under me at one point. I grabbed a sign, but was only able to slow my trip to the ground rather than stop it. I was eventually able to get back up again and make it home, where I ate a ton and finally got back up again.
Today: 5.52 miles. It was hot and humid. As @MobyCarp would suggest, I ran in all weather not knowing what will happen on race day. I had a pretty good run with some intervals, though I did take some dextrose to manage hypoglycemia. I didn't get nearly as bad as yesterday, partly because I took a lot more dextrose earlier than yesterday.
I've got to get BG's figured out soon because I put together a busy fall race schedule (see below) and need to be ready.

Caught a window between storm bands for my run today. The cloud cover makes a big difference in my perception of the heat. About halfway through it started sprinkling. Felt nice! I kept the pace nice and easy and felt pretty good when I got back despite the heat.

It looks like the weather in the central and eastern US is going to be dreadful. Watching the news tonight all I could think of was everyone trying to run in that very hot, very humid weather. Please be smart, stay safe and hydrate!
My run today started out fine. Plan was for 5 miles at pace. Got to the trail after a little over 1 mile warmup and started out on the dirt near the river as it had a much better breeze. By the time I had gotten to the turn around I was having a bathroom emergency and Hobbes the Vizsla was as well. He had already 💩 twice before during warmup and proceeded to 💩 3 more times before we were finished. A run record for him, clearly he wasn't feeling great. For me we took a detour over to the bathrooms on the paved trail and then went back out to the dirt. in the meantime my headphones died and my watch got locked on pause and was frustrating me to no end because I couldn't get it to unlock... arggg. I also noticed that my pace for this 'pace' run was pretty slow, much slower than I thought it was when I was running. Weather wasn't terrible - 71F, 75% humidity, dew point 63 when we started out and right around 80F, 65% humidity and same dew point for the 2nd half of the run.
Hobbes did decide to cool off in the shade on a neighbor's wet grass on the way home...Ahh - the wet grass feels so good!
What do you mean we need to go now?
I am behind on my mileage for the month too... Missing a couple of long runs in the plan will do that. I was hoping to get an extra run in tomorrow but life... by the time I could run it will be too hot and I have strength training in the afternoon. Dh will be gone all weekend so I may try to get an extra run in over the weekend... also planning to do some hill repeats during my Saturday long run.

Someone on FB just told me this is standard. You only evacuate the floors above the fire? What? I was outside already when the alarm went off and the firetrucks came racing over but no one else was from the floor I worked on. They did not even know.
Yup, our system will announce what floors to evacuate and lower floors should be alert and wait to see if message changes. If I remember correctly it also can be set to the floors that need to evacuate and no one else will know (except you can hear it going off somewhere in the building)
Not evacuating when the building is on fire is so far out of my normal thinking that I would have never considered this was even a possible option before.
It's a safety thing - if everyone evacuated at once panic is more likely, plus the lower floors may hinder evacuation of the higher floors. Fire compartmentalisation is usually built into tall buildings so if there IS a fire on one floor it is contained to that floor only. This is why the fire service told all the people in the Grenfell tower to stay put. That would have worked fine, if adjustments to the building envelope had not been made. The original concrete design meant fire couldn't spread from floor to floor. It was the new cladding meant to prettify the building that carried the flames up and killed 72 people (mostly from smoke inhalation).

This morning I went out just for a mile as per my careful plan to transition from 3 runs per week all with a rest day in between them to 3 consecutive days plus a 4th at the weekend. Legs didn't complain as much as I expected them to considering my knees felt a little tired last night. Physio later for a massage, none of my muscles feel too bad considering my runs are lengthened since I last saw her, but she's bound to find some knots somewhere!
I decided I would use this very short run to try out a new, shorter pair of shorts I bought at the end of last summer but never ran in, and paired them with a vest instead of my usual T-shirt. Felt nice and cool at the beginning but I still ended up drenched in sweat almost immediately. Apparently that's what 80% humidity does. Ugh, is it nearly autumn yet?
In other news, I'm tracking walking and running miles for Run the Year because beside my contribution to the team I decided I wanted to see if I could cover the entire amount on foot, even if not purely running, and this morning I passed the 1,000 mark. It's going to be tight but I'm hoping I can do it!

After heading out after work yesterday to get a few miles in, I have come to the conclusion that I do NOT like running in the afternoon/after work. It's too warm and I have no energy. I may have to consider getting up early on a Wednesday to get my run in before work.

I had a chat with the evil physio about the 3 running days in a row thing, explained I wasn't sure whether I was better off following the plan exactly like that or moving a day so I do run, cross train, run, run, rest, long run, rest.
Her response put me right in my place:

Me: "Erm nope"
E.P: "Probably silly to try and be superwoman then...."
Then she hit me with a "just listen to your body" that could have come from @MobyCarp
@Squish815 I hate running any time of day except first thing in the morning. I hate getting up early, but I've found I hate running later even more! Unless it's a race. I LOVE evening races. Maybe I'm just a bit crazy :-) Try it and see, you don't have to commit to doing it for the rest of your life if you don't like it!

I'm glad I popped in here this morning. I'm following the Higdon Novice 1 Half plan now and debating running my third day in a row today. My calves felt tighter than usual when I got up this morning, probably a result of my not stretching or foam rolling very much after my run yesterday. I was going to take the dogs individually this morning - I'll still do that, but we'll walk instead. Then at lunch I'll ride the bike before yoga. The road will still be there tomorrow.5 -

@zeesparrow well there have been a few aborted takeoff attempts but I've never mastered the actually continual airborne suspension part ;-)
I'm not going to risk the 3 in a row thing, I want to do too much this coming autumn/winter/spring for it to be sensible to take the suck it and see route. Plus, as I was reminded the other day by the facebook post about my first ever 5 mile run just a year ago, although in my mind I'm an experienced runner and superwoman, I'm actually still very very green. Maybe in 5 years time I'll be capable of the 3 days in a row/flying thing with no ill effects.

There is an art, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.7 -

Yeah, I followed the plan at the beginning with 3 days in a row for a few weeks, then had some slight knee pain so I backed off. I didn't learn my lesson and have had a couple more weeks like that (without pain) so while I could have run today, I think the sensible choice is to wait until tomorrow. The next few weeks I'll go by how I feel.
I think I might have to take another page from your book and schedule myself a massage soon, too!2 -

Fantastic walks with the dogs this morning. I need to give myself the extra time so I can take them separately more often. It's so much simpler and more enjoyable with just one dog at a time. They can take their time, sniffing and sauntering at whatever pace they choose.7
