So can I throw out a monthly question? I know it's kind of late but..
How do you encourage other runners, either online and/or in person?
Follow-up question... how do you encourage yourself?
Thanks for throwing a monthly question. I wish I were a better online encourager. I read all the posts and am impressed and inspired by everyone's updates. I always think of responses in my head and think once I get a chance I will properly respond which rarely happens. So, I respond by using the like button.
To encourage myself, I try not to compare myself to faster runners. I like reading inspirational quotes. I also have a strong circle of friends that I run with in the mornings.10 -

I beat last month's total of 58 miles with my long run yesterday. I ran 9 miles in almost exactly the same time as I ran 8 miles a couple weeks ago... and I'm *not* waddling like a penguin today. Yay!11 -
Thanks @noblsheep for the dd advice. I just gave her my card and said get something. She hasn’t yet...
—————gimp update——————-
Saw best PT ever, again (third round with her)... I have exercises to do. No more walking like I had been. No cycling, which I already stopped. We tried the recumbent bike and it’s still no good. Swim and get stronger. Not a bad idea to use one crutch if I’m out and about. Don’t come back until your stronger! Haha! Just two weeks of “go get stronger”.
ETA! Thanks @shanaber for “just let her do it “ Nike should pick that up for moms like me! @quilteryoyo no way she’d be caught dead in cycling shorts even on a bike! She made reference to a camel’s toe when I suggested stuff. I don’t think I got my cool Texas flag shorts back from her though... I mean, there’s a liner. Good luck yanking them to toe-land.8 -
So shocked to visit this thread and find that @MobyCarp is gone.13

@Elise4270 Get yer backside to the pool then Mrs! Re: DD & shorts, I agree on the 'just let her do it' thing. I gave up a while ago with fighting over clothes with mini-me, I finally realised I'm always going to be wrong (at least until she's 30 or so) and it isn't worth getting myself upset over.
Having said that, the camel toe thing upsets me with my cycling-style running shorts too, I always have to wear a really long t-shirt or a belt or something to disguise that area and not feel like everyone's staring at it! (Yeah I know nobody is but try telling my brain that!). Anyway just last week I discovered those shorts that have two layers... a cycling type underneath to stop any chafing and a looser top layer to stop any tight camel looks. Yay!5 -

Yes, it was a shock to all of us. He’ll forever be in our hearts. Good to see you though, despite the circumstances.0 -
@jele30 - One of these days I will get to Green Bay to run that 5k. That is the one that runs out onto to Lambeau? Do any of the players run it?
@martaindale - I love running in the rain like that. I have actually been stopped and asked by people if I need a ride before 😂 I just tell them, nope just enjoying it!
@noblsheep - I got nothin on the ankle issue but I hope it feels better soon.
@MegaMooseEsq - love your new addition. He seems to be fitting in nicely! What does River think of his look alike brother?
@runsonespresso and @elise4270 - you two could have single crutch races! Sorry.. you are both doing great!! Keep getting stronger!
@greenolivetree - yes we were all pretty shaken up by it! Hope you are doing well!
@zeesparrow - Monthly question. I try to be encouraging here, especially to new, newer runners by giving suggestions and letting them know that it does feel hard, especially at first but it does get easier and that there will be good and bad runs no matter how long you have been running. I try to call out to runners I see on the trails that are looking hot, tired, discouraged, etc., a comment about the heat or just a 'looking good', 'doing great', etc.. I especially like to do so with moms running with strollers. They get my utmost respect because that is so tough! For myself when I am running and it gets tough I have a mantra from my trainer because he is always telling me when we are lifting 'you got this, hang in there, just a bit more...' so that is what I say to myself to get over the hurdle and on to the next target (mile, tree, corner, hill, etc.).
Today's run was the most surprisingly awesome run! It was cool and overcast with a nice cool breeze. At one point I was actually a bit chilly, wow was that a shock! I guess it was pretty humid but I really didn't notice it much. When Hobbes started shaking his head/ears I thought he might need some drops when we got home but it had started to rain a bit on us and he was just reacting to it. Actually it 'sprinkled' because it never rains in July in So CA! Mid-60's when we headed out and near 80 when we got home with 80% humidity! Pretty much the rest of the week is supposed to be unseasonably hot and humid, even near or over 80 at the beaches. Hoping I can get my runs in early, early!

Hi all, Reading and liking as usual.
Yes I'm in pain, but it's not the worst I've ever had... I'm going to go to the pools this morning for some exercise and hopefully to loosen up a bit. Working lates this week - start at 3om and finish at 11pm.
In other news, the bank approved the finance on the house we want to buy so we submit our offer today, we will find out Wednesday evening, so 36 hrs till we know.
And I got offered a permanent position, woo hoo! Life is coming together!15 -

Better effort today - kept the pace down and Fitbit reports that 83% of my run was in the Cardio zone. I might have gotten the 7 miles if I hadn't had a new niggle in my groin. I hope it settles back down so I can try again tomorrow.
No More Than 120 Miles

July 22 - 6 miles

Oh, yeah, that is right he did! His last race was as one of their pacers! Oh wow.6 -

Follow-up question... how do you encourage yourself?
The monthly question started as an end of month thing, keep everyone engaged the last few weeks. It was @MobyCarp that suggested it be earlier, so he could read all the replys. Never too late for a monthly question though.
I bug the runners, don't run, interject where I don't belong... Haha! Like @shanaber I like to encourage where I'm lead. Lately I'm trying to accept that I may not be s runner. Perhaps I'm a fish. I do gain encouragement from the group... Maybe I'm a leach. Om nom nom, runners!
@MegaMooseEsq "Simon".... 🤔🤔🤔 Just what kinda nerd knows "Simon"... I'm not watching enough tv.... Simon's not Sheldon's kitty was he? ETA oh wait. River is the nerd name? I know River. She's brilliant!
I love the two copy cats. We have two black and whites they look enough alike that dh doesn't always get them right. IDK, there's about 6 pounds of difference between them and I had to point out the differences to him... Ones 9yo the other is just 4. So I'd think he can tell by now. But the vet even mentioned how alike they were.
ETA Congratulations @Avidkeo ! House and job!!!!!!5 -
My goal is 60 miles this month. I think that I ran 57 miles last month... so not an unreachable goal.
July 1....4.26 miles (Monon trail)
July 2....4.66 miles (Monon trail)
July 5...4.17 miles (Monon trail).
July 6....2.03 miles (treadmill).
July 8...5.22 miles (Monon trail)
July 10...2.4 miles (treadmill).
July 11...5.26 miles (Monon trail)
July 14...4.01 miles (Monon trail)
July 15...5.29 miles (Monon trail)
July 16...6.47 miles (Monon trail) My longest run to date...very hot and muggy weather....relentless. I was in a dark funky mood. It finally relieved a little after hearing "Slit Skirts" on my mp3 player. Amazing how much music can improve one's mood. I loved it so much I listened to it again and even danced a little while running. At the end of the run, still hot and muggy with no breeze.
July 17...2.38 miles (treadmill) I went to the gym due to the dangerously hot temperature. Usually by 8:30 pm, the gym is usually pretty dead, but not tonight. Very crowded. I abandoned my plan to do a chest workout and chose to work shoulders and biceps. Treadmill run felt good, but boring.
July 21....4.06 miles (Monon trail) This run was in the rain. It felt good for the temperature to break. I usually avoid running in the rain, but after racing a couple of halves in the rain, I no longer use the rain as an excuse. Up temp run with a couple of sprints. Only one other person on the trail, and we smiled and waved at each other. A great feeling.
Total: 44.95 miles
Goal: 60 miles.
It looks promising to meet my goal this month. How is everyone doing?

@martaindale For quickly drying shoes, consider an electric shoe dryer...they're really really really handy for when you're running outdoors in the winter and spring. I use this one from DryGuy and it's been absolutely great.
The temps had dropped a few degrees this morning (82F at 3am), but the dew point was down to 69F which makes a HUGE difference in running performance to me. It also helped that I made a big batch of spaghetti sauce on Saturday, and it was so delicious that I ended up eating several-plus bowls of spaghetti, so I was all kinda carbed up for this morning's run.
Tomorrow morning is supposed to be cooler with the lows down in the lower 70s, and then the rest of the week the lows are in the upper 60s...seems like summer is taking a quick break, so I've just gotta make the most of this respite before August arrives and brings the Texas heat back with it.

I have one like that with four posts that I got on sale for like $30. They are great. In fact, I have my Merrills drying on it right now.

@shanaber: The cats haven’t met yet - it’s only day three and we’re still at the “hissing under the door” stage. I did do the let-them-explore-the-other-cat’s-space thing today and no one is acting super stressed or anything, so I’m hoping to try a face-to-face tomorrow.
@quilteryoyo: He is a sweetie!
@Elise4270: I’m assuming you know River from Doctor Who, since you don’t recognize Simon - back in the 00s Joss Whedon (of Buffy the Vampire fame) did a very short lived show called Firefly and then a follow-up movie called Serenity. Two of the characters are siblings named Simon and River. My River was named after both characters, who are both awesome in different ways.
Anyhow, I love that the two cats match - Simon is 3-4 pounds bigger than River and their spots are slightly different, since hers are pure grey and his are grey-brown tabby, and his go further down his back. I’ve been having a tough time telling thumbnail photos apart on my phone, though!

1.5 TM mile warm-up before TRX class, then 3.2 miles of 80s Rock song intervals, run one song walk the next, in the midday heat. A good day overall.
Thanks all for the input on the upcoming half-marathons I was considering. At this point I need to check my school schedule as well, but it is looking more and more like the Battleship half in Wilmington, NC.8
