After a week off my hip is feeling much better. I plan to run again tonight but will be short in my July goal. I’m ok with that.6

I hope no one minds, 'cause I took the liberty of beginning the August 2019 Monthly Running Challenge.
Just hope everything works...8 -
Perfectly timed my run today. The rain was almost over but the sun hadn't come out to turn the day into a sauna.
My training plan called for a 3 mile pace run. I went for it and did 3.1 miles in 27:50! A new 5k PR for me - about 30 secs a mile off my old time!

I went to run group tonight and the workout was 5-7-3 minute intervals, with 1 minute recovery between. But I ran them at pretty easy pace because I'll do the actual speedwork on Wednesday. I just wanted to go to group to motivate myself to get a run done. Also my right knee is a little sore from Saturdays wedding extravaganza. Too much standing around and dancing in heels (low heels, but still).
That meets my mileage goal for this month. My stretch goal was 125, which I won't make, but I should get over 120. Which will be my highest mileage month since October.
I'll do some assessment for setting a goal for August and head over to that thread. I'm not sure I'm quite where I want to be training-wise at this point, but I'm feeling better about it than I have been.5 -
Excellent job on your 5k PR @martaindale!1

Excellent job on your 5k PR @martaindale!
Ooh, yes, I missed this! Great job!1 -
@contrarymarymary - great race report and awesome running over the 2 days!
@martaindale - congratulations on the PR!
Wasn't sure how today's run was going to be after the difficult long run on Sunday. I woke up to heavy marine layer clouds and lovely coolness. It stayed under 70F I think for the entire run and I was able to take Hobbes the Vizsla along for the 1st time in over a week. We had a few stops and starts as he wanted to sniff initially and then meet and greet pretty much everyone on the trail. It amazes me how much better I do when the temps are down even if the humidity is up and dew point is about the same... I guess I am just not made to run in hot weather. I have a 6 mile pace run on the plan for Wednesday so hopefully that should get me to my goal for the month!
I will jump over to the August thread and set a goal too. Thanks @Tramboman for getting it started!

Surprisingly good 9 mile run this morning. Was feeling achy and tired last night from working at my Mom's house all day yesterday. But after I got to running a few miles, everything felt pretty good, despite the return of the oppressive heat, humidity, and zero wind.
Ended July with 130+ miles (and no injuries) 😁

Great job on your 5k PR, @martaindale!!!!
Brutally humid today with legs that felt like wood. Tried to do my usual 7k today and had to cut it to 5 -- just couldn't do any more.

I had a great 6.25 miles run this morning. It was hot already when I left the house at 5:48 this morning. It was 73°F feels like 74°F with humidity at 78% and a dew point at 65°. But I guess I am as used to the heat as I can get because once I got going it didn't bother me too much. It was a little cloudy so it seemed really dark starting out, but the sunrise was just lovely. It was clearing as the sun came up and the clouds made some really pretty colors in the east sky. I never was a morning person before, but I have really been enjoying getting out and running early in the morning.
I am already over my goal for July and I have one more run in the morning. So far this has been my highest mileage month ever. I am still planning to set my goal for August as 100 miles though. I like to set a goal I know will be attainable. Part of me thinks that is weak and I should set a goal I have to work hard for, but I also don't want to injure myself trying to attain some arbitrary mileage goal when really I just run because I love it. And I don't want to be stressed about whether I can make my goal or not. But I do like the feeling of accomplishment I get when I do meet my goals.
Great race report @ContraryMaryMary!
Congrats on the PR @martaindale!

I ran yesterday! First run in a couple of weeks and it felt tough, but normal, haven't-run-in-a-while tough, not why-does-this-hurt-so-much tough. My physical therapist wanted to check in before gym yesterday to see how running was going since we met last Wednesday, and since I hadn't actually run since I'd seen her, and the weather was lovely all day, I decided to pull the trigger and run to gym. 1.74 miles and back on the board!
Tomorrow I'm going to try for a 5k-ish lake run, and then Saturday I've got my first 10K since January out in Seattle. I'm nervous about it but also really, really hoping I'll be able to start building milage again.
I didn’t get much yoga or walking in last week, but I did meet my strength goal and biked maybe 75-80 minutes, which I’m pretty proud of. Up in some places, down in others, so it goes. It’s been about a week and a half since adjusting my anti-depressants and I'm starting to feel something like normal again. Whew!

Good luck on those races @MegaMooseEsq ! I think you’ll be okay, just pace yourself, walk a bit and save your energy to finish strong.
@kgirlhart wow! Congratulations on the monthly mileage and embracing AM runs. I’m trying to convince dh that that is the way to go. Shame one me, right. I hardly made it out for an am run. He’s too much of a night owl and needs to shift his time. I’m just flat lazy and won’t get up.
@Scott6255 dang you killed this month despite the heat! I’m sure October rewards will be reaped.
Congratulations @martaindale on the race!
@shanaber 70f? Oh what’s that like? It was 85 the other day and it actually felt a little cool. I put my heated seats on. No lie.
@emmamcgarity Glad to hear the hip is better!
I ended the month with more activity than I anticipated. Some of it was torturous. But, I think pt is paying off and hope to be trotting while my eggs cook this next month. Of course, I anticipate another surgery September... so just round and round we go.
Keep those feet moving. Never deny your heart. (Unless it’s illegal, y’all).6 -

Today's run was a lot better than anticipated; attitude was good going in, and body cooperated throughout. HR stayed down, cadence (and more importantly, attitude) stayed up. My IT band is still feeling a little tight now.
I think I've decided that instead of pushing mileage for one more week and then tapering, I'm going to start tapering now. I had originally given myself an extra week of my training plan, just in case. I followed the plan pretty closely except for week 3 when I had some knee pain. I took it really easy that week, slowly picked back up the following weeks and then was right back on track. I probably should have repeated a week somewhere in the middle rather than pushing on, but it's a little late for that now!
So today I ran 3.75 instead of 5. I'll decrease the next couple days as well, and Sunday's long run ... well, I'll see how I feel and play it by ear but I'm considering 5 or 6 miles. Then I'll follow the final week of the plan before the race the following Sunday.
Looking back on my training log, I see that I've increased my mileage a little bit since January:
Jan: 23.05
Feb: 38.28
Mar: 28.24
Apr: 50.33
May: 42.75
June: 58.04
July: 86.92
I've still got one more run tomorrow (which will put me near 90, if not over). Whoa. I've run a lot this month! I believe my mileage in August will be much lower.6 -
I googled how fast an easy run should be, and I should be going even slower, so today I went faster because I don't learn. And had a shorter run as a result... I'll try to take a lesson from that for tomorrow, and finish out the month strong.

Treadmill warm-up run at the gym today. The beginning was shaky, but the run seemed to work out most of the soreness in my knee.
Strength training was a mix of things, but a lot of arms today. We started with focusing on 100 push-ups, in sets of 10 super-setting with a few other things. Then we moved to pull-ups as the focus. My arms felt a little jello-like at the end of the whole thing.
One more day of July. Make the most of it!7 -

Total: 56.28 miles
Goal: 60 miles.
I should be able to run another 4 miles after work tomorrow a.m. and achieve my monthly goal.
I still need to read about 40 pages of posts. I just learned that @PastorVincent lost his job. I hope that you have a lot of nibbles at a new job by page 78. That truly sucks! Did you have any inkling that the company was going to close its doors?
I wear 2 bras when I run, one regular bra and one sports bra. I wiggle my "girls" out in front and then cross my arms behind the back and bend waaaaaay over and peel the bras off. Then a breathe a sigh off relief.
Well, got to finish getting ready for work. I hope all of you meet your goals this month.
