Heather: I love the photo of you with your son’s family. Beautiful!
Lanette: I suspect the eye doctor went out for a meal or some such thing. He gave no apology and no explanation. DH waited for a ridiculously long time. The doctor came into the building from a door to the outside with several other people. The door is right across the hall from the room where DH waited and waited. :grumble:
We heard from our daughter today. Her two older children will be in school later this month. Her oldest will be in 3rd grade, I think. Number 2 is going to kindergarten. The youngest boy will be home with daddy daycare. I haven’t seen them in about two years. Not happy about that, but there hasn’t been an opportunity. We’d planned to go this summer but DH has some health issues that have to be addressed before we go very far from home.
I enjoy hearing about Heather's fun with the grandchildren. She is a lucky woman, and earned her luck by making a move closer to hers. I have to admit to a bucket full of envy. The bottom line is that DH an I are not willing to move closer to our kids. We have a situation we love. We have good neighbors, good doctors, and a great view. We may change our minds sometime in the future but we're happy here for now.

Kayla-My oldest daughter and her 2 children (boy and girl)live in Nebraska. We haven’t seen them in 5 years and probably won’t.We can’t afford to travel and her husband doesn’t like us.He has paid his parents to fly out and visit,as well as given them money while they are there.

I am sitting in a quiet movie theater.. bu myself for right now.. but took myself to see the lion king.. the original is my favorite but want to see how this one fairs for myself.. was going to take Taliah with me but she wants to see it with her family.. meaning mom and dad..I did bring ear plugs just in case it gets a little loud..2

Katla - I know how lucky I am. I can't think of anywhere better to live than Hove and it happens to be the place where my grandchildren live. When we moved here we said it had to be for us, not just for the grandkids. I do feel for you.
If I were you I would fly there by myself, come what may. I know it is difficult, but care can be arranged for your DH. But I am not you. I would not move from a place I love. I would put my foot down with my DH. You need to see your grandchildren.

MoMo in Alberta, welcome! Sounds like you've got a plan.
Still cooling down from a couple hours of using the walk-behind trimmer. Takes me nearly an hour for my core temperature to get down to the point where I can take a shower without ruining it by sweating some more afterward. Someone asked if there's a shift in elevation in my yard, and the short answer is "yes." According to the Fitbit, I not only walked 8,000 steps and burned 300+ calories, I also walked up six flights of stairs. And I was only trimming the back yard! Tomorrow is exactly six months since the knee replacement, so I feel fortunate indeed to be this operational. Many aren't.
Starting to feel like I've stopped exuding sweat, and starting to catch a chill in the A/C, so time to jump in a tepid shower!
The other Fitbit surprise for me was that my activity was 195% higher in the last seven days than my average over the last 28... while I was not shocked, I was surprised that Fiona von Fitbit actually tracks that. Spiffy!
Love y'all,

Old pic- sorry if u r grosses out3 -
I've taken the plunge and ordered a cheap sparkly dress from Amazon. It will arrive tomorrow. I can return it if it's no good. Sizing is a problem on line.
It's for my birthday on the cruise.
Also a new backpack/purse. I love my old one as it is so much easier to walk around with than a normal handbag, but it was very cheap and the stitching round the straps is going. Plus an organiser that fits inside as I'm fed up with my phone and keys always falling out of the pockets and ending up at the bottom of the bag. The backpacks have the opening at the back of the bag so they are more theft proof.
I walk everywhere, or take the bus, so a backpack is perfect.

Great lunch today! I steamed some broccolini and zucchini and hubs finished them on the charcoal grill along with some tuna. Soooo very good. I had logged mine for lunch, but couldn't eat it all so I got 1/2 for lunch and 1/2 for dinner! It was just as good the second time!

Heather - I too need a sparkly dress, but mine is for Halloween. I think I will hit some thrift stores and see if I get lucky. Since it is a costume, I don't want to spend a lot. I hope your dress fits you perfectly the first try!

Oh come on!!!! It's only August 4 and you Chatty Cathys are already on Page 15! I'll catch up on this month later.
Thanks Barbie for keeping this group going. I've been MIA for a little over a year and I was able to find this month because of your faithfully posting the link to next month at the end of every month.
I did NOT read an entire year plus of posts. However, as I was trying to locate this month I saw Pip's post the Winkle has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I's so sad to read this. She will be missed.
I've re-gained 15 lbs. I'm back to get back on track and shed this excess before it becomes an incredible problem.
Starting small with my monthly goals.
1) Track food every bite, every day.
2) Take my measurements. To be redone once a month.
3) One day of strength training each week. (A bit of a cheat since I have a personal trainer that goes over just this each week but it gives me a starting point.)
4) Walk one day a week. Not specifying a time or distance but I will be working my way back up to 5K training levels. I was walking 5Ks when I fell off the face of the earth and I want to get back to that level.
I know 15lbs does not sound like a lot to many of you ladies. Those who were here a year ago may or may not recall my story. Here it is briefly to do a tiny bit of "getting to know me" chatter.
I have been heavy almost all of my life. About 7 years ago I finally had a breakthrough with childhood weight issues and realized I was not an obese child. Just a bit pudgy. I was also a normal weight when in high school. Then came college with the addition of the "Freshman 15" and the weigh went up any where from 5 - 15 lbs every year after that. I was determined to lose the weight "by myself" and went on nearly every diet imaginable year after year with weight gains at the end of every year. Finally, I met a doctor who persuaded me to just listen to a talk about weight loss surgery. I had been very resistant to the suggestion of surgery up until then but for some reason it began to sound like something I could do. In Feb. 2014 I had a Roux-en-Y, otherwise known as gastric bypass. I was 350lbs when I made my appointment for surgery. 2 days post surgery my blood sugar was normal and I no longer had to take Metformin for diabetes. I won't go into all of the good health things that happened because of that surgery. Suffice it to say it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Two years post surgery my doctor declared that my weight was as low as he wanted me to go and he OK'd me to have a tummy tuck. After that tummy tuck I lost 10 more pounds to reach my all time low of 175. I liked to say that I am half the woman I used to be.
Here I am 5 years and 5 months post surgery and I am sitting at 191. Doctor is still satisfied with my weight but I am not. I have promised him (and DH) that I will not try to go below 175. My energy level isn't quite where it was. My knees hurt just a little bit more. I need to work on this.

Hi friends. How are there over 200 new posts in a day and a half? I can't keep up!
I spent the day inside, grading papers and turning in my final grades. In both classes I have one student who is not done. One took a leave and the other one just hasn't finished the last assignment. ERG!
It's beautiful out so after dinner I'm going out to do some yard work then it's right back to work on a chapter! This coming week is our week off and then Thursday I'm driving 1/2 way to Colorado. That will get me there earlier on Friday and I can rest and not have to worry the whole time that construction or something will slow me down and make me miss the Friday evening visit. I don't mind the drive in one day, but then add another 3 hours of sitting, then another 30 minutes to get to the cousin, and that all about does me in. This should help.
I lost 0.9 pounds this week, so for once I am losing. I actually exercised yesterday and believe it or not, my knee felt good! So I will again today. Take care everyone! Meg from Omaha where it is beautiful again today.6 -
Mia it is so wonderful to see your post. I think of you so often.

Margaret, congrats to your son, one year sober is a HUGE accomplishment.
Heather, congrats to your son, who has also turned his life around. And how could anyone possibly be fed up with your pics! I love the one of all of you at the parade, so much joy is in evidence on your faces!
Machka, good for you for realizing that sometimes we need to dial it back a bit and take care of us!
Lanette, If something happens to DH I'll go onto that Farm matchmaking site and connect with an old geezer who drives a pickup and has a tractor lol Hope that works out for you!
Ginnytez, Pets become part of our family. As much as I complain about my two cats, I will no doubt be devastated when they go, but I won't let them go on suffering. You are absolutely right, it's just not fair to the pets to make them be in pain. When we lost our last one, we decided we wouldn't get any more pets, I do miss the cuddles, but really don't miss the litter box.....
Katla, that was so very rude of that eye doctor, hubby would not have waited, he would have left, and not quietly!
Pip, Oh My! That doesn't look good, what had happened?
Meg and Mia, you both should know that it doesn't take long for us to get an extraordinary amount of posts done! lol Mia, you are absolutely right, we are a bunch of chatty Cathy's!
Meg, drive carefully! That sounds like quite the trek, I hope it all goes well for you.
Well, I have been fairly faithful in the logging department so far this month. It hasn't all been pretty, but it's at least being done. Yesterday after work I stopped and grabbed us pizza for dinner as I had a lacrosse game to go watch and just wouldn't have had time to do dinner. I really enjoyed it! I was smart enough to brush my teeth after that, so when I got home I didn't have any urges to snack and the scale rewarded me! I have also started riding my bike back and forth to work (10k one way-about 6 miles) and I am enjoying it. I know this is nothing like the rides that Machka does, but a bit at a time! I didn't ride on Sat tho, as I would not have had enough time. I won't be riding year round, but intend to take full advantage of the nice long summer days! Funny story about when I went to have my shower Fri night, it had rained Thursday night so everything was a bit damp in the morning when I was going to work and it was kind of windy on the way home. When I was getting ready for my shower, I took off my bra and there was a tree needle stuck to my b00b! lol I never felt a thing as it was a flatish needle, so it didn't poke or anything. I just wonder how long it had been there! Oh well, could be worse.
That's it for me for now, hope everyone has a great day!
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island
