Satire chicken ... I read it as Satay Chicken. Tastes good, but something I can't eat because of the peanuts. I don't have an allergy exactly, but I get immensely bloated and uncomfortable when I eat peanuts, peas, soybeans and occasionally other legumes.
Eggs ... also something I can't eat. I like eggs. I can eat them in food (like cake) and can occasionally eat one. But more than that and my gallbladder torments me for hours.
Milk is another one that is a no-go for me.
I would love to drop meat from my diet most of my time, but I'd have trouble getting protein without a little bit of chicken once in a while. I don't seem to digest protein very well.

Barbara I love rustic settings and finding out about places few people would live...I remember Machka's story of how she & her husband made it work. My family owned a small cabin on government property near an irrigation lake. It was a weird situation where you rented the property but could build/own a cabin. It was understood the government had undisputable Eminent Domain in case they decided to do something else with the land. They never have & those cabins still stand. We had an outhouse, cold water only, and a rustic little cabin on a cement slab. It was heaven to me. I had all my birthdays out there, we swam and learned to water ski and explored, unsupervised for hours. There were other cabins nearby with kids our age, so if they were at their cabins we would have friends to explore with instead of just our siblings (who weren't nearly as fun). We had total freedom with a safe haven to retreat to. Mom had a triangle (think musical instrument) that she used to round us up for meals. No phones. We had electricity, but no heat or AC. We had to turn the water on at a little pump house when we went out there. I love that place in my memory still.

Second day of school - grandson does Math benchmarks today and work on the week's assignments if I can get him distracted away from "building cars" online, his favorite past-time. It takes balance to avoid meltdowns and frustration.

I've decided not to copy all my photos onto the new laptop as it's only 128 SSD. (I'm on a steep learning curve. I learnt my old laptop is HDD - which means very slow. Ain't Google amazing!) I will keep everything before 2015 on Dropbox. I'm in the slow process of getting all the old photo files onto it. They go back to 2004.
The documents can all go on the new laptop as well as Dropbox.
Music can stay on the new hard drive.
Slowly, slowly, I'm fording the river. I'm looking forward to coming out the other side.
Then I'll start on my new tablet! Aaaaarrrrggghhh! ( I think that should be easier.)
Feeling better today. Slept well. Cooking to do and then maybe some rowing. One of us has got to stay in for our Amazon deliveries. If they come early I might run.
For the newbies, I have a three machine gym in our spare room. Every morning I do 536 calories on those machines (not accurate, but approximate ) and then 64 calories in our bedroom with mat work and dumbbells.
After lunch I try to do some 'bonus calories ', which could be a 5k run, a walk, dancing, shopping, or extra machine work. Most days see 800 -1,000 burned.
All this exercise allows me to eat quite a lot, which seems to be essential to my sanity. I lost 57 lbs doing this and have maintained for five and a half years. I am currently up three lbs (indulgence) and want to shed some of it before my 70th birthday cruise in 3 weeks time.
I used to be nearly crippled with a bad knee, hips, etc. I was breathless walking on the flat. Pain all the time.
Now I am reasonably slim with a BMI of 23.9 and good general mobility, flexibility and strength. Age is always knocking on my door, with the usual aches and pains, but I am wrestling it off.
I have had a total hysterectomy, gall bladder removal, breast cancer with chemo. Every day is a bonus. My friends seem to be dying off, so I am determined to make the most of my time.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -

Yes ... my first year in Australia was a year in a cabin in a relatively remote location, off "the grid" ... 2 km from "the grid". Tank water, fireplace heat, generator electricity until my husband got some solar panels working, solar hot water heater that seemed to work about once a week, cooking on a Coleman stove or in the fireplace ...

By the end of 1 year I was so glad to move into town ... but I do miss cooking in a fireplace.

No problem, I had to go bk to the post 2c what u we’re talkingPip: I have no idea whether the color of eggs impacts nutrient content. The food the chicken eats sure does. I like free range araucona chicken eggs best, but I’m seldom able to get them. I had an egg lady for a few years who sold us free range araucona eggs. The eggshells were a mix of different colors and were blue, green, pink, or tan. These birds were not kept in a huge open room with lights 24/7. The went outdoors and scratched up bugs and plants to eat. I miss their quality and the novelty of the pretty colors.
Barbara: Your deck looks wonderful!

Miss all the farm fresh food EXCEPT for 1 thing and that was chicken. Don’t ask me why but when I discovered satire chicken, I was in heaven . We made our own butter and cheese, that was cool.
Auto correct- that’s supposed to be store bought chicken
I didn't want to seem ignorant and ask you what the heck a satire chicken was. 🐣🐤🐥
No problem, I had to go back to see what u were taking about lmao1 -

Today was the 1st day of school. Grandson seems relaxed about it, to my surprise. He did his Reading benchmarks today; Math benchmarks are tomorrow. Then we'll get into a groove and settle in for the duration...got my fingers crossed for this to be a good year.
For those of you who are new-ish, I am Learning Coach for my 13-year-old grandson, who is in a public online school program. He was finally diagnosed with autism this summer, after years of missed diagnoses and much hurt & misery. Last year was his first year of online school; it was better for him. The goal this year is to bolster his confidence, line up resources, get IEP in place, etc., and have him back in brick & mortar school for 9th grade next fall. He needs the socialization and practice of getting along, tolerating frustrations, etc. I wish we could do the academics separately and just use school as a social training ground. I hate for school to interfere with his academic progress. That sounds a little weird, LOL!!! I would like for him to be able to go to school for about 3 or 4 half days a week, and continue his academic work online. It'll never happen.

I would suggest exploring the options and seeing if there are any hybrid schools in your area. My daughter worked at one for a couple of years. The children are only in school 2 days a week, the rest of the time they are home. It's classical education so the school days included math, Latin, Logic classes. Parents and teachers work closely together on curriculum and social interactions.4 -
@dandl1986 welcome back, losing 17 pounds since June doesn't sound slow to me.
@JRsLateInLifeMom I drank lots of Diet solda as a teen (like my Dad did) and had lots of cavities. maybe related. I never liked coke but drank Fresca. my dad: Diet Pepsi. what about getting him sunglasses? or dress up glasses or goggles for fun.
@cityjaneLondon Heather I hope you feel better. impressive daily burn!!
@LuciBThinner thanks. I hope you feel better soon too and your eye continues to heal well.cataract surgery can be amazing.
@KetoneKaren the half days sounds ideal. it's a shame it's not an option. there are several interesting tedx talks given by autistic people
the admin guy came by. it wasn't a great fit but still it looks way better.
I got allergies after 2h of filing old (slightly dusty) papers.
now have an outside admin appointment plus meeting a friend for a coffee later.
I need to lie down with allergies to get over it a bit.
An antihistamine would make me sleepy for the evening. Hopefully I can stick to the plan and go out.
Can't find the one paper I needed. I'm wondering if I have it and misfiled it or if I don't have it.1 -
grateful:
administrative help
papers look much better.
see possible light at end of paper-tunnel after 2h of working together on filing and treating paper stuff.

I splurged and had a burger and fries last night. I figure that wipes out about two good days worth of calorie deficit. I think my little diet break is done; I'm ready to get back on the 1200 plan. Sept is the month all my clothes will get loose! Goal weight for Sept is 156. I should be able to do short stints of elliptical at the gym, too, by the end of the month.2

Machka: Thank you for the September blessing.
Karen in VA: I hope your grandson has a good year of school this year. Is he still homeschooled? I had a wonderful girl in my eighth grade classes who eventually chose home schooling. I learned that she went on to enroll at high school the next year. My yoga teacher home schools her grandson. She also takes him to weekly art classes at a Community College. It is a wonderful part of his life.
Barbara: There is a Grocery Outlet in the next town. I’ll stop in and take a look at their cards when I get a chance. Thanks for the tip.
Machka: I had to have my gallbladder removed due to gallstones. I actually only had one stone and it was the size of a robin’s egg. Looking back, I think that fatty foods were likely to trigger an attack. If that is a correct assumption you might do okay with egg whites and feed the yolks to your compost bin. In your situation, I’d seek out a doctor for medical advice/treatment.
Heather: I love your photos.
Our dog is currently at the groomer. After I bring him home I plan to go to the Grocery Outlet in the next town and see if they have some good greeting cards. My other good choice is a True Value Hardware Store about 20 miles the other way.

This morning I walked in to the corner wall by our bedroom. It hurt!

I can say it was my own idiocy. I had my eyes shut.

Machka- How well do you absorb vitamins? They have protein cereals high calorie but can make it your breakfast or lunch. I’d cut meat out if It hurts just stick with reduced fat received beans, peanut butter, tofu Chinese soups, tofu dogs (hot dog),soy,
almond butter,to nuts 🥜. Have you thought about studying vegan/Vegetarian diet plans? Might be one that fits Daughter a Pescatarian. Bean with rice is a complete source separate worthless.potatoe with almond butter a good source. Kale, broccoli, mushrooms. Protein shake? Theirs vegan ones no milk! Lots of options but got to try them see if your insides throw it back or love the choices.
Daughter in Virginia Beach their talking about evacuating the whole base...Darn hurricane coming their way. She doesn’t want to but I wish they would lol 😂. Stubborn girl would ride it out probably asleep roof blowing away. Hope they drag her out Toss her on a bus!

Heather: That is quite a goose-egg. I hope that the swelling goes away quickly and you don't have any dizziness or other worrisome symptoms. Seek a doctor if you need one.0

I'll typically post in the evening, but this morning's scale showed I dropped 1.3lbs so had to do a shout out! Yippee!14

Hello ladies, so I have just walked a very eager greyhound and am exhausted, normally we have a lovely gentle stroll around a field, but today I did a route march for 3 miles - thats a lot for me! Greyhound now asleep. Im soaking my aching feet!
My plan is to get healthy, and lose weight
My goal is not to set a goal because I use it as an excuse to fail
My plan is to forgive myself on days I dont follow my plan as otherwise I give up.
I have invested in new scales and a step counter.
I also have just lost a job I loved so am battling not to slide back to the old mental health issues.... and not resort to comfort eating11 -
Good morning ladies!
New ladies - a bit of info on me, I had surgery last Monday for an incisional hernia by my belly button. From one of the holes they punched in me 7 years ago to take out my gallbladder. Anxious to get back to doing some workouts, have been sidelined for over a week now and even before then.
Karen in VA - I'm not grumpy anymore, or shall I say I'm back to normal grumpy, lol. I took a zyrtec and Pepcid this morning, just hopped out of the shower and nothing seems to be itchy yet (except incision and it's more tickly). Have Aveeno ready just in case.
Heather - ice pack, woman!
MFP was grumpy this morning and wouldn't let me log in until just now.
I'm getting ready to head out the door to see the surgeon, pick up the medical records from my surgery last week (I like to read about the gory details, lol) then off to get allergy shots, a little grocery shopping, fast food for DH then I'll likely be pooped.
Hope the surgeon has time to tell me how to NOT get another hernia. Like Heather, my BMI is running around 23.9. Maybe he wants me to bring it down a bit to get some fat out of my tummy/reduce pressure.
New gals - there are so many of you, welcome! Hugs to all of you, I haven't had a chance to do more than skim. You've come to the right place.

Lanette: Keeping my fingers crossed that you don't wind up with another incisional hernia. OUCH!!! Being rid of a painful gallbladder is wonderful, as I know from personal experience. Having surgical site issues is another matter. I hope your doctor is able to provide effective help.

Heather - been there, done that, ice packs (or a bag of frozen veggies) will do wonders for the look of it tomorrow... Tell your DH we know better than to think he'd take a swing at you!
And, so... remember the $100 million grant I applied for last month? Wellllll... found out today that we made it through admin review and on to peer review. So, I'm reviewing five other grants (if not more) and five other folks are reviewing mine. Only 500 will make it through the peer review. Pretty jazzed, and looking forward to learning as much as I can from my peers.
Welcome to those who are new! As you can see, we don't limit our triumphs (or sorrows) to those merely related to the scales, but to our entire lives. We're glad you're here.
Love y'all,

I am new here and stumbling around getting the hang of it.
Started today to track food and focus on my health.
Goals for Sept:
* Track food & exercise
* Increase exercise (sign-up for Zumba Gold & keep that meeting with the trainer)
* Move every day even if it's just for 15 mins to start
* Make time for me- for my health to be a priority
* Deal with my fear of failing again - face it and choose a different outcome
One thing I am worried about is how quickly 1200 calories are used up! I have only 350 left and it's mid-afternoon. I know that 1200 is right for my height, weight and activity level. I need to make some changes to stick to this number though.

May I just say when you ask your trainer to get you ready to ride a long distance (60 miles in my case), be prepared for a tough workout? Today kicked me in the legs! And core! But it will be worth it. Oh and the scale was down another pound! Now that I’m back to longer rides every weekend, and adding in stationary rides one day a week for a while, the pounds should start dropping off, or at the very least being replaced by muscle!
Rest of today will be spend quilting, then choir practice tonight. Have a great day everyone.
Oh, I’m still waiting on the cardiologist office to call and schedule my last vein ablation. Insurance still hasn’t approved yet5 -

Try filling out the food diary a few days in advance. That way, you'll never run out of calories. I'm on 1310 calories per day. I'm going to shoot you a friend request so you can check out my diary, if you'd like to get some ideas. 😉
What did you choose for pounds lost per week?
ETA: friend requests don't seem to be working right now, will try later.

Happy National Macadamia Nut Day!
"Today we celebrate macadamia nuts! Native to Australia, they are named after chemist John Macadam, who promoted their cultivation there. They are also sometimes known as Queensland nuts, taking their name from the second largest Australian state. In about 1890, they were brought to Honolulu from another Australian state—Tasmania. In Hawaii, their trees were first used just for ornamentation, but after about forty years they began being used for culinary purposes. They have since become one of the largest crops of Hawaii." I love macadamia nuts - what about you?
Ooh, I knew I wasn't far enough behind on posts yesterday! It's because I was posting to the August thread. I've figured out what month it is now and I can tell I'm in the right place now because I'm waaaaaaay behind. So sorry if I missed any important news while skimming to catch up! Even when I don't post I'm thinking of you all.
Today would have been my dad's 83rd birthday. Have not been sleeping well for a few nights - I'm dealing with some anxiety issues and my brain just won't shut up. Tonight I'll reach for the mild over-the-counter sleep aid we use when we really need to reset our sleep. Hope that will help because I've been foggy and distracted in the daytime as a result of the lost sleep.
