TIL that drinking OJ after brushing your teeth tastes bad because of a foaming ingredient in toothpaste which blocks your ability to taste sweetness, and you're left with the pure acidity and bitterness of the fruit.

TIL when Stephen King was run over by a car in 1999 the driver apologized and said he'd never even gotten a parking ticket before. King, lying injured, replied: 'well, I've never been hit by a car before'.

TIL when John Bardeen won a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956, the Swedish king criticized him for not bringing his children to the ceremony. Bardeen promised he would bring them the next time he won - and in 1972, he did when he became the first person to win 2 prizes in the same field.

TIL the reason why the majority of police uniforms in the U.S. are blue is a result of the civil war. After the war had ended, there was a surplus of blue uniforms which got repurposed for police officers. The color became associated with policing.
