What nobody tells you about losing weight

I think at my largest I didn’t realize how big I was, now I’m aware of it. Now 40+ pounds down I’m only 1/2 way there and because I’ve lost weight differently I feel chubbier in the front, I feel fatter. I am probably between a 14 to 16 (belly culprit holding me from a 12- 14). How did I get so big.? I did metabolism testing this past week😩😂 and know I burn 1600 at rest.....I question why all packaging basis on 2000 cals. The killer creep of office work......sit sit sit commute commute gain gain. This will be a lifetime of counting to get and stay down.19

2000 is considered an "average" I think partially because it's an easy to remember number. But it's obviously misleading because most people consider themselves "average". But even 200 calories above what one metabolizes on a daily basis over time (and often more, most people do not measure what they eat) adds up.0 -

How I want to step on the scale all the time.But I have challenged myself to do my daily workouts eat clean and calculate my food until the end of the month. So I won't be discouraged by the number! Even if I am 172pounds at 5'7!!14

That you might 'off gas'. I was just remembering how a few months after I started dropping the weight suddenly my sweat started stinking like crazy. This lasted a couple of months then went away. I'm not sure what it was, really. Maybe there was a hormonal shift? Or maybe it was toxins from a crappy diet that my body had wrapped fat around that were now getting released? These are just guesses, I really have no idea what happened but my underarm smell was truly shocking there for a while. Has anybody else experienced something like this?13

Wondered what was going on as I leapt about like a loon in Aquazumba. Constantly adjusting my boobs (sorry!) and feeling odd, despite the usual swimming costume plus sports bra underneath.
Well, I've just taken a good look at myself in the changing rooms and whatever I've lost this week has all come from my boobs. I can't get my bra to properly fit and I've deflated like a 2 day old pair of balloons after a toddlers Birthday party.
I am unamused.35 -

• Weight loss can happen very differently each time.
I’ve unfortunately been on this journey more times than I’d like to admit, but each time it’s been very different.
Last time around I lost mostly in my legs arms and face in the beginning. This time I’ve been losing in my mid section as well. I’m definitely not complaining lol!
• Finding clothing to wear while in the process can be frustrating.
-I am lucky to have held onto many of my “skinny” clothes(I just couldn’t part with the idea of a thin me 🤷🏻♀️) but I don’t have enough of the size I’m currently straddling and I’m not throwing down a ton of money before I get to another big goal.
• those that have seen you yo-yo won’t be offering support or congratulations and that’s ok. They doubt your ability to stick to it long term and aren’t goin to reward your efforts. Your hard work is yours to relish in so let it roll off your back.
• your family will get healthier too!
My husband is losing weight easier than me by not eating the old junk I prepared. He doesn’t have to watch macros or calories though so I’m a bit envious!
•using the restroom, tying shoes, bending, walking long distances, etc all become easier. I’d forgotten that it didn’t take much effort to do those things before

That letting go of your "fat" clothes will be hard. I just donated a bunch of my old sizes this week and while it partly felt liberating it also felt very scary. i kept some things "just in case" which part of me hates but also I don't want to have to buy all new clothes again.. again32

Mine are all in a box in the basement. I don't know what it is, but having them down there "just in case" makes it easier to keep going. Keeps the pressure off, I guess, and I have a tendency to sabotage myself under pressure.15 -
Raw carrots are so sweet! Now I eat 2-3 baby carrots as desert after a "large" 300 calorie meal and I'm full.9

That working out will get easier for you and that you'll need to consistently up your intensity in order to keep up the same amount of calorie burn!
I used to burn like 300 calories by jogging 3 miles and I now need to do at least 4 to get the same burn rate!12 -

It amazes me how far 4 miles is and that I can run it. I run what I think is miles and further than I would have even walked in the past and its only 3.5!
So finding new routes and new challenges to keep up with the new fitness is interesting!8 -

Do you think you might have unintentionally dipped into ketosis? Keto breath is famously awful, but keto sweat is also a thing. Like something rotting.
As a type 2 diabetic, one of the first things I noticed before I even had a diagnosis was that the palms of my hands smelled like pears, and my arm sweat smelled like freshly baked bread. I smelled delicious! But it was killing me because of the untreated high blood sugar.
In conclusion, bodies are weird and yes, diet can change your smell.16 -

Oh my gosh yes! When i used to go on what i thought were long walks were really only maybe 1/2 mile or 1 mile long walks! No wonder doing that like 1-2 times a week wasn't enough to lose any weight!7 -

Ah, that's a good thought, though no it wouldn't have been what was causing my situation. I was still, for example eating pasta and potatoes as a pretty regular staple and have never intentionally done low-carb and/or high fat at any stage of the process. What you said about the smell difference does resonate, though, in that my BO during those months was not simply a more potent version of my usual smell. It smelled like a totally different person, and a different person with a glandular problem at that.
In fact, the first time I noticed it I was out shopping and actually thought there was such a person behind me, only to turn around to get a look at the offending shopper and find nobody was there. Then I took a whiff of my own underarms and my head literally snapped backward. Luckily, as I said, it went away by itself a couple of months later and hasn't returned. An enduring mystery.2 -

ETA: I'm thinking of the attitude that many of us have—at least when we start—of "I just have to restrict my eating for a little while then I can go back to eating 'like normal'." It just doesn't work that way.19 -
So stinky BO is a weight loss thing?? I told my husband the other day that my deodorant must not be working anymore! Blech! I picked up a different brand, but still funky midday. I guess I will get a travel deodorant to keep in my bag for freshening up in the afternoons.5

Well I couldn't say that it's a thing as such (which is why I was curious if anybody else had experienced it), and as @rheddmobile pointed out, if it is a thing it could be for any number of reasons, Keto BO being a likely one for many MFPers. For me I had this vague memory of seeing a documentary that explained that the way the body protected itself from toxic substances that entered the system was to wrap those molecules in fat, creating in essence a protective barrier between you and the toxin. I don't remember where I saw that or how true it might be, but that's the reason I thought of the concept of 'off-gassing' when my own smelliness episode hit.5 -
That it's not always about eating too much. For some of us it's a sign of an addiction. I've lost and gained 50 pounds 6 times in my life. And how sad it's gonna make you to realize that you are addicted to something that's an integral part of everything you do.18
