Hi All - can someone tell me how to reply to a specific post that someone makes - if I am reading posts that people added say 1 or 2 days ago? I know that I can send them a message which I think is private, but if I just want to put in a reply that everyone can see, is there a way of doing this?
    Thanks 😊

@ginnytez - My knee is driving me crazy today. I haven’t taken Alleve in months. I thought everything was a lot better due to my weight loss. Apparently my knee doesn’t like the cooler weather as much as the rest of me does!!

shOtzz99, sometimes adulting is damn near impossible at 76 for me. I have 12 grandkids, all but 3 of whom are 20 or older now. I never cease to be amazed at the variety of adults that have come from my loins, so to speak, and by other methods. I have blended families, families with adoptions, families with steps, halfs, sortas, and wanderers in and out of the mix. If you hang around long enough to eat a few meals and sleep over a few nights at all my daughters’ homes, you end up being there for major holidays and celebrate birthdays, share hand-me-downs or ups, and you magically become family, sort of like the Velveteen rabbit became “real” because he was loved. Sounds like you have the knack of opening your heart to let folks in, for sure.

Clair from Texas, sometimes the best way to manage a situation is to be away from it for a while. I don’t visit friends often who have alcohol involved at every get together. And I try to come up with things to do that involve no alcohol and either healthy or not over abundant food, things like a “Summer Salads, Summer Not” potluck and movie night I hosted in out clubhouse. I provided greens and told folks to bring whatever they thought a salad wasn’t complete without. I also provided mostly healthy and/or diet dressings. It was fun, and I could pick and choose the add-ins for my salad. Don’t be afraid to choose an independent direction while you cement new habits.

Barbie AHMOD, have a very happy anniversary. I don’t know what I’d do without your level-headed thoughts on the many topics we wouch on. I lived in the East Bay Area from 1969 to 1971. How I loved that place! Tilden Oark was my wonderland.

Rho, what a great story. Over the years, knowing many, MANY people, and knowing most of them QUITE well, I’ve found that “normal families”, as we used to think of them when “Father Knows Best”, Leave It To Beaver” and all the rest of the family sit coms were the only fare on tv, are only half, or perhaps less than that, of the families I’ve known. While it’s true that I’ve lived in the West Coast for 52 years, I keep in close touch with my school mates from Ohio. The odds there are probably 60-40% in favor of the traditional norm, but then, the ones who differ from that may not be on the message boards for classmates for any number of reasons. Bullying, or fear of it, is at least one reason I can think of. I think a great number of the world’s problems would be helped by getting out there and talking to folks as we do here. This thread has always, to my knowledge, been inclusive and nonjudgmental. Thsnks, gals, for keeping it that way!

That sounds interesting! Have you found some good pieces?

I'm interested in aquamarine jewellery and have browsed through some of our local antique shops looking at their pieces. One day I might buy some. But there are some fascinating pieces of all different sorts!

Am finishing the book “Dewey”. This is a great book for any cat lover. I was crying at the end, Vince said “if that’s what that book does to you, I definitely don’t want to read it”. It’s sad how he came to be at the library and sad at the end.

My mother loaned that book to me during one of our Canada visits a few years ago ... I liked it. :)

Janet OKC - Matthew is adorable!

Connie in KY – I have some arthritis in my hands that is bothersome at times, but I think working and using the keyboard and needlepoint actually helps that. My hips were replaced due to arthritis. My knee xrays a couple of years ago actually looked pretty good, but who knows. I have had problems with the tendon getting inflamed off and on for a couple of years. Was going to discuss with doc at last visit but it wasn’t bothering me then. Am hoping ice and massage and stretches helps. Mainly want to go to pt to make sure stretches etc. are ok movements for replaced hips. While they function very well want to make sure I am sensible.

Heather – your birthday celebration was awesome. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Sharon near Seattle – families don’t much fit the traditional mode any more. Mine has become fairly diverse also with steps children, different races, etc. My mother, who was in her mid 80’s at the time, once said (after listing the diversity in her brood of 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 29 great grand-children), “Who would have ever thought I would have such a diverse family?” She said it with pride and amazement. She didn’t know what a step grand-child was-once they came to the family they were hers! I’m glad I had such a role model.

Allie - make sure you take care of yourself now. I have been with three people close to me when they passed (SIL, mother, husband). While it is exhausting it was the right thing to do. Looking back I am amazed I had the energy to make it through. With each of them I also had signs afterwards they were at peace.

Finishing up morning icing session, then church. Choir is back to singing at second service so I will stay for the anthem at second (comes fairly early in service), then duck out. Get to visit with people.

Hope everyone has/is having a good day.

I've been taking a little break from uni stuff this weekend.

    Extra sleep.
    A bit more exercise.
Spending a little time outside ... my husband gave me a tour of our garden today. :)

And working on things for my cycling club: mainly advertising. I'll need to finish this tomorrow, but when it's done, I won't have much to do with it for the rest of the year. Basically, I'm posting the year's events up on FB and will have to touch up some stuff on the club website tomorrow. There might be slight adjustments as we get closer to events, but that's about it.

Managed to walk 5.3 miles this evening with no stopping at all and in my best ever time. Apparently I am not a fan of walking in the cold and this motivated me to move faster. First freeze warning of the season here, brrrr, I am definitely not ready.

:) I know it will get a lot colder where you live than where I live, but I've had to get out some of my warmer clothing and begin reminding myself of all the extra stuff I'll need as winter comes upon us. I walk every day no matter what the weather so I've had to do a lot of creative outfit planning to make it possible.

Niece is back off to her home in Western Oklahoma, and heard from the daughter - they'll drive another 5 or 6 hours today, and then be here in the early afternoon tomorrow. Can't wait to see the grands. :) And the daughter, of course.

Another night with a light freeze, but it's supposed to be the last one for quite a while - 60s and 70s for the next couple weeks, with lows dipping into the 40s. Fall has definitely arrived... and I'm so glad of it!

Off to the races, a few things to get done yet today. :) Love y'all!

Still stalking and find each time I do - 40+ pages behind. Will never catch up; but, still alive, still walking with a cane [get a lot of positive comments on it - homemade by HS friend's father] and wish to be able to walk in my ankle boots which have a chunky heel. When I told my PT that, he just laughed and said, 'well, got about 3 more weeks to see how your balance goes. Guess I could walk with them, at home, and see how it goes. Don't know if I will see one of the 2 PTs they have there before I am released or if I have to continue with it for a while longer. I sure hope I get to see the PT that owns the company. Haven't been seen by the other one; and one of the PTAs. Chris is a 'talker' - must have to be in order to decide what one has to work on to figure which PT or PTA works with me.

Well, have a good weekend or week, wherever you are.

    Good morning!

Kim - your resourcefulness in dealing with that food from the camp was amazing. Good for you. Yes, do you know if they have any long-term plans for getting a generator there?

Allie - You will miss Buddy a lot, I'm sure. You were such a loving and loyal caretaker for him. (((HUGS)))

Yesterday I attended more Master Gardener training. Very interesting presentation on Mushrooms! I'm not ready to go picking in my yard without supervision, lol. But am ready to buy an Oyster Mushroom kit. I love them and haven't seen them in stores lately. Last ones I bought weren't fresh at all once I opened the packaging.

The other class was on Orchids! I don't have one yet but think I'm ready to make the plunge. The presenter has a greenhouse full of all kinds of them and much of what she talked about is from the American Orchid Society website - AOS.org

I am still watching the Alzheimer's "Science of Prevention" series. It's fairly lightweight compared to similar series I've watched, but still full of good reminders. It seems to be more of an "info-mercial" to sell DVD's of the series with in-depth interviews, etc. :/

Had a call yesterday from a former co-worker who is also looking at upcoming hernia surgery - again, under the belly button. She was looking for advice, and I had plenty, lol. Same surgeon, same hospital. She's had hers for a while but now is signaling it needs to be fixed. She is very obese so her recovery time will likely be longer and harder than mine was. She's also allergic to adhesives so gave her my list of what to do if it becomes a severe problem ([b]thank you Karen in VA!)

    Time to get busy here.

Make it a fabulous Sunday, ladies! <3

Hi, I'm new here. 51, live in Dallas, Tx. I need motivation! I have 30 lbs to lose and it seems to get harder every year. The truth is that I've gotten too comfortable - eat whatever, drink whatever and don't exercise much. Changing that. Starting goal: walk 2 miles everyday (I live in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of hills) and put all food in MFP. Biggest hurdle: stress eating. I need to control the stress or not let it affect eating. Any tips?

:) It helped me to stay away from setting a weight loss goal and focus on behaviour plans. I started with setting a plan for eating each day and sticking to the plan. I figured out a way to drink more water and keep track of how much I drink. I decided to seek more opportunities to be active and I stopped using food as recreation. I go for walks with friends and gave up baking chocolate chip cookies for fun. Take baby steps.

    Aw, Rebecca, thank you. <3

I've been asleep most of the evening after a busy day. We started with a six mile walk along a blustery seafront, followed by watching the Japan/Scotland rugby match. Then our guests went home.
I slept for an hour, then we went over to the grandchildren and spent a couple of hours catching up after the cruise. It was wonderful to see them. :D
We finished by picking up fish and chips on the way home.
I think I'm still incubating a cold because I've slept most of the evening away! I was trying to watch a series on a journey through America, but couldn't keep my eyes open!

My DDIL told me they have decided to get an au pair because it is so difficult delivering and collecting the kids from various schools/nurseries every morning/afternoon with both parents working. She is from Spain and is starting in November after half term. They interviewed her on Facetime. It means changing around the sleeping arrangements with the two girls sharing in the old guest room and the au pair moving into Edie's room next to a shower room. Next Sunday all the kids will come to us for six hours while my son hires some muscle and they move all the furniture around, up and down stairs. Then we are off to a dance ball. :o
I hope it works out for them. Part of the plan is that she will speak Spanish sometimes to the kids. The two older ones go to a bilingual English/Spanish school. I expect Bea will pick it up soon enough. She will also go to the school eventually.

They are coming on Thursday for tea for DH's birthday. He wants to go out for lunch that day to Fatto a Mano (handmade, woodfired pizza). I've been ordering stuff from Amazon for little surprises to open in the morning. He has already had his main present of new gym kit before the cruise. He will be 74. Gosh! How did that happen?

I hope I sleep tonight after so much napping!

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx
