Luci – are YOU causing all this rain?????
My bathing suit came! Never realized just how stretched out my old one was. I think I’ll probably just take it and leave it at the condo. I already have one bathing suit down there.

Margaret: That recipe sounds delish. Thanks for sharing.
Lisa: Your happiness radiates right off the page. Bravo on your attitude towards your boss.
Relatively good news from podiatrist yesterday. What I am feeling on the outside of my foot is the avulsion fracture from my slip in April. It's only been 6 months, and the bones do show some bridging to the tendon from where it separated. However, it may never entirely heal. The bones there are so small, it's not even something that can be pinned together with surgery. Employing orthotics, stiff shoes and modifications to some moves, I can continue exercising. I need to get back to stretching with the therapy bands, too. With knowledge comes relief. I am going to focus on continuing the healing, while simultaneously getting back to the gym.
October 2019 intentions and scorecard:
🎯 Be lighter - down .8 I am 3 pounds from normal BMI.
🎯 Get back to photo scanning project. Avg 15 mins/day. Fail Got sidetracked with decluttering DH's desk. Still a work in progress.
🎯 Add harder intervals to daily recumbent bike workout. Done
🎯 Intentionally connect with acquaintances and neighbors. Set up coffee/lunch dates. Done Three lunches with neighbors this month. Already have 2 set up for November.
Hold a good thought for my brother today. He has a Skype interview for a job where he is a top candidate, up against stiff competition. His birthday is coming up. This would make turning 60 a tad more special.
Happy Halloween to all who celebrate. Brother and I are setting up a a simple display of departed loved ones so we can casually celebrate Dia de Los Muertos starting tomorrow.
Stay well. We can do this.

We are not doing trick or treat this year. Next door is going full out with the decorations etc. In Hove the kids only call if you put out a decoration or lit pumpkin, so we can hide in the back of the house.
When we did do it in our last house and when we went round with the kids here, we were amazed at how polite the kids were. We had to encourage them to take more than one candy and they were full of thank yous. Such nice, polite children!!!!!
Photo of my friend in front of one of the more decorated houses.
We had a wonderful seafood lunch with homemade pasta at my favourite ice cream place. Lovely day and a good walk.

beth those veggies don’t look at all like misfits-they look yummy.
Margaret . I like your creative blueberry pie, never thought of adding applesauce-I’m gonna try it
Rori sounds like helpful information about your foot and you are on the right track. I’m holding a good thought for your DB’s interview
Will stay in tonight and exercise—Won’t have any little goblins or witches knocking on our door—too rainy.
See you all on the November thread.

Amber ~ My DnL and her Mother (both teachers) keep the nursery at their church once a month. I will have to ask her about the safety precautions there as the church has thousands of members and is very large. I do remember leaving my son in the nursery when he was an infant and I guess I was too dumb to think about his safety.
Margaret ~ I looked back and that recipe sounds great. My biggest thing lately is finding out I could cut apple and pear wedges and roast them in microwave for about 20 secs. Very good and a little cinnamon adds to the flavor.
Heather ~ Your friend looks great.

got my car back.. it was a bit more money than i expected ,but looks brand spankin new. I figure with the money I got from my dad, it will help pay the extra that insurance didnt, and will pay off 2 small credit card bills with money still in savings..
Boss said no to raise and more hours, he doesnt want me to leave ,but is also looking to hire another part timer and not give me the hours,if thats not a slap in the face.. so I will put my chin up and start a vision board formyself and what I want to do..and will do it~~~7 -
BOO! You know what day it is! But if you'd rather celebrate National Knock Knock Joke Day, I won't judge...
Michele - The snail is so cute! Imagine what a smile that would give someone walking past your porch or garden!
Margaret - I do something kind of similar to your blueberry pie, but with apples. The fruit and spices satisfy the urge for pie pretty well, and they are sweet enough that no added sugar is needed.
Philip went the the gym with me to work out today. It's only been two weeks but so far he's sticking with it so I've got hope that he'll decide to hang in there as my workout buddy once his trial membership expires.
We don't get trick-or-treaters here and it's unbelievably gorgeous here today, so after dinner I'll be walking over to one of the local taprooms to listen to a band and hang out with Philip while he does chair massage. And I'll have enough calories left over to have a beer, too!
That's it for me - see you in November!

Happy Halloween ladies!
We are hoping we don't get any goblins stopping by - mainly the racket the schnauzers set off doesn't make it worth it, plus we generally don't get any on our unlit private road. I did buy one small bag of butterfingers just in case. Hopefully DH will scarf down most of them if we get no takers.
Rori - so sorry about the slow healing on your foot; glad there are ways around it. Loved hearing that you are getting out more and lunching with neighbors! Crossing fingers a LOT for your brother and this job. It would be ideal if he could stay in the area - give you some time away from your DH to do some things if he could stop by. Glad the grocery pickup is working for ya. Your icicles gave me a chill!
Allie - I never make it to Costco but have plenty of friends that shop there, will ask them to see if they can find any crepini for me. Your boss's reasoning for not giving you the raise and potentially cutting your hours by hiring another part-timer is so sad. Good luck in your job search!
Beth - those are good looking misfit veggies, I'd take them in a heartbeat. Good amount and variety. May I ask what you pay for the box? I was paying $25 for my box which had about 1/3 of the amount yours has, glad I was able to cancel it. I'm curious where your misfits vendor sources the veggies.
I've been watching "My 600 lb life" as I've mentioned before. While I don't need weight loss surgery, I am fascinated by the interaction the patients have with the therapists and often see a little bit of myself when it comes to how to deal with out of control eating and how to face the demons that often drive it.
Heather - love the photo of your friend in front of the decorated house. What year was your home built? I really like the solid looking brick. And see if your hunky tree trimmers want a job in the US! I could keep them busy for at least a day. Trimming the trees and shrubs, lol.
Carol - I was going to mention how painful it must have been for your dad. I remember my mom and dad both getting kicked by cows and horses, thankfully not in the mouth.
Karen in VA - What's a Jared box? Glad Josephine is in good spirits. Good luck to Lilliana's mom and hope she has a safe and quick "birth day".
Michele - your Pooky snail looks great, I don't see anything wrong with it!
Regarding books - someone on here mentioned "Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande. I got it from the library and have read about half of it. Very insightful, and depressing for me right now. I keep reading in this book and other sources that falling is the worst thing that can happen to an elderly person. So this morning I dug out one of my "gentle" Leslie Sansone DVD's and did a 20 minute walk. Dancing is supposed to be so good for us, so I threw in some 1960's and 70's dance moves, lol. This has to be good for balance and strengthening ankles and legs.
Also, regarding balance, I mentioned falling to DH this morning - he fell in the bedroom a couple days ago and really skinned up his arm. He failed to turn on the light lost his balance - so it was preventable. He said he falls at least once a week, he also tripped up the outside stairs and landed on the deck on his knees and hands. Geesh.
OK ladies, that sizes it up for now.
Barbie, thanks in advance for upcoming November thread. The year is whipping by!

Well it is 30 something degrees here and with wind chill in mid 20s-spitting some snow. Usually have 100 or so trick or treaters come by-just a handful so far. It is supposed to last until 8, but choir practice starts at 7:30 and since "business" is slow (like 12 kids so far), I will pack it in. Luckily I can take candy to work and we will use it for candy bags for foster kids Christmas. I will probably keep a couple of smaller favorites for treats for myself but have been good and not opened the bags until tonight.
Stay warm all (if you are anywhere where it is cold!)

Went to the water class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do the Travel Fit DVD
Drkatie – I’ve heard that Where the Crawdads Sing is a good book. I want to read it.
One thing Vince wondered about, could Loki be having a “mini seizure”? We’ve reduced his zonisamide from 35 to 25 since 25 is cheaper. He does seem more needy and he usually got that way after a seizure. Or is it something else?
Would you believe the bridge came out AGAIN last night. This time I was just eating soft cheese, and I was trying to eat it on the right side of my mouth. Since there aren’t any sharp edges, I’m thinking that for three weeks I’m just not going to bother having it put back. For less than 24 hours? It’s not worth it. It would be one thing if it were permanent, but it’s not. Allie – is there any reason why I would absolutely need to have it put back in?
Pip – A list of apartments? Are you planning a move?
Tried AGAIN to make fudge for Vince. Followed the recipe exactly. Didn’t come out (again) so just made him a chocolate cake. I’ll probably ice it tomorrow.
After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army (didn’t buy anything) then went to WalMart. Needed to get Loki’s medicine.
I used to put all my foods into one category, but I think I’m going to break it up into breakfast, lunch, and dinner so you can all see how weird my breakfasts are sometimes. I was trying to prelog, but every time I went to log “dinner” I just got this really weird list. It would let me prelog breakfasts, just not dinner. Weird!
I haven’t found the crepini and cauliflower, either. There is another store I may try, Publix. They usually have different things that other stores don’t carry, like farmer’s cheese. I need to stop there after ceramics, anyway.
Oh…get this. Last night someone from the nominating committee from Newcomers called to ask Vince if he’d be treasurer again. He just told them that not right now but maybe in the future. Yea, right!
Heather – so sorry to hear about your dh’s aunt. Happy anniversary
Ceramics tonight.

Allie so sorry it did not go well with your boss. From everything you have told us it sounds like he is trying to get you to quit. I have been in a job like that know how hard it is for you to go into work and having a difficult boss. When it happened to me I made up my mind I was going to do the best job I could under the circumstances and leave with my head held high. I set the date when it was time to leave. I think having that control helped make the difficult situation better. I did have another job before I did this.
That he is trying to hire another part timer lucks replace the l with an s. I wasn't sure they would let me use the word I want. Please start putting away any extra cash you can so it gives you more security to put your energy into finding that new job that is out there for you.
You took a hit today. I know you have the strength and perseverance to bounce back from this and apply that energy to finding that job that is right for you. When one door closes another opens.
Much love,
Margaret2 -
Happy Halloween to those who celebrate. DH and I used to go to a requiem mass at the catholic cathedral in Sioux Falls on All Saints Day. This year they are doing Faure's Requiem. It is haunting to hear that music in that setting. We do not get any trick or treaters here as we live in the agriburbs, all 10-acre plots with houses mostly set quite far back. Still working on financing for the roof but hopeful the credit union will approve a home equity loan.
Pip - How long before you and Kirby retire? I thought you were going to travel in the airstream for a while.
Michelle - This is one of our grove snails. They are not as colorful as yours but kind of cute anyway. They all have different combinations of black and yellow on them.
Everyone take care and see you in November, Sue in WA

Carol- Was so different back then you could walk in check or ask what they did you knew the nursery worker by name probably ate out with the whole church as a group once a month. The Pastor was careful who they hired wasn’t a job for anyone it was a member of the church who people respected y trusted. The mega churches here are no windows to peer in can’t check on them security guards stationed outside. So different now of days. I was left in a nursery as a kid it was safe back then. If I could see inside ask questions get answers ,no eye scanners,y leave early even I’d do it even know who’s there I wouldn’t worry so much. I’m sure you knew the nursery workers back then’s parents even. Mega churches here you don’t even know who the pastors family is. The small towns are better but then they don’t have a nursery or mom day outs. When I was a kid you walked alone for miles to get groceries for mom now the police come if neighbors say your teen is in the backyard alone
Halloween done ✅ hubby backs sore me too. Went to almost 10 houses then home for cartoons some chocolates 🍫.

Suddenly cold as heck here!! I even saw a few snow flakes here in Louisville. I think we have only had 12 or so trick or treaters.
Now what to do with all the candy!!

Halloween 🎃 everyone giving candy had to have enough steps to fill a football stadium 🏟! My calf’s are burning 🥵
