I had a pretty nice Sunday - I had been looking forward to a day to sleep in and just relax around the house for a while so that's what I did this morning. I passed on a couple of offers to run early and sat on my couch being happily lazy and coffeed up. I did get myself moving and went rock climbing around noon. The rock climbing gym is downtown near a creekwalk path, so after climbing I did my run there. It was a good change of scenery. I also took a couple of nice long walks with my dog, Stella this weekend so had lots of time outdoors in the chilly but sunny weather. A much-needed bit of relaxation for sure.8 -

Today's run was 10 miles. It was a great day for a run! It started out kind of chilly but I was pretty warm towards the end. It's hard to know what to wear when it is 10 degrees warmer at the end of the run than at the start. I wore capri length tights with a t-shirt and sleeves and gloves. It was pretty good. I would have been a little more comfortable in shorts, but the capris have pockets and it was nice to be able to put the sleeves and gloves in the pockets so I was glad I wore the capris. All in all it was really good weather for running. The sky was blue and the sun was shining but it wasn't hot. My weekday runs are usually before sunrise, so I really like it on Sunday when it is pretty out but not too hot. I didn't see much wildlife, but I did see a fox running across the road. Luckily he was pretty far ahead of me.
Re: Running fasted. I also do most of my runs first thing in the morning and usually just have a cup of coffee with sugar and half and half before a run. For long runs I will usually take a few energy chews or a gel after about an hour. I just don't want to have a lot of food in my stomach when I run and I don't want to get up any earlier and I really don't like to eat when I first get up anyway.
@somum Way to tough it out and finish your half. Hope the ankle heals up soon.

I’m still resting and not running until the thigh/groin pain goes away. It improves each day with rest and I feel like I “could” run today with a bit of discomfort. But I’m taking the conservative approach and will wait a few more days.
I just caught up in the thread and enjoyed reading everyone’s adventures.
@somum I hope your ankle heals soon!
@noblsheep I enjoyed your 10k RR. I’m sure the watch troubles were frustrating not knowing your actual pace. Makes it hard to know how to pace yourself for the target finish.

Thank you so much @emmamcgarity! Today I tried the spin bike so cycling feels ok but it was all in the saddle and I elevated and iced using RICE method. Hoping tomorrow I can get some road work in-maybe 😊1

@emmamcgarity I hope you get plenty of rest as well and heal quickly! I tend to have tight hip flexors so I’m rolling and know now being off season I need to work on strength training which can help with road work and hopefully for the Shamrock prove to be an awesome race! @kgirlhart Thank you so much! Yes honestly I was very emotional being my first race back and having such a major/minor thing like rolling my ankle 🙀 I was overzealous and came out hard and fast landing down wrong with too long stride on what felt like a bump in the road. The race was enjoyable but ever so painful yet satisfying as I truly love the sport. Seeing runners soar past me I cheered them on while also feeling sad about walking because I trained so hard to come back but I surely have a long road ahead of me as am still training to get back to pre-medical stuff etc. Yet all in all I am so thankful to be alive and out on the road because the course really put things in perspective. I saw the wheeled chair marathoners and others running for disabled or those lost and was grateful to be alongside them.
In fact, In my day job I’m a D&I Chief of Staff in which I have created virtual races for our associates and their families. In Oct. during the virtual race I had the opportunity to be a guide to blind and disabled athletes which was awesome. Thus the half reminded me to just be thankful and enjoy the run even if I was walking. Next year on top of the ultra marathon goal I will partner with blind runners again 😊. So all in all it was a good day and while things didn’t go exactly as planned I did finished strong, I am healing well and excited for more races to come!7 -
Ok so this community is SUPER AWESOME! I am still trying to get thru all the posts and truly am at a lost for words of all the love and support! Merci for all your kind words! You all are a blessing and inspiration and with that I recalled on more than just my physical training on yesterday as I pushed past the pain and recalled all the words from all on this forum and in my personal life from mentors knowing I could and would finish strong!

Friday night, I spent a long dinner chatting with a friend who has been running for 8 years, and now does ultras. Totally geeked out on sharing plans for the next year. He's the one who is going to run with me in my first 5k next month.
This morning I had the first meeting with my GP since I started this running thing. I love my GP. He got all excited for me and asked me if I was going to try to race an HM sometime by the end of 2020. He has started running recently, also.
Oh... and my BP was 92/58. My BP was lowish-normal before I started running, anyway, but I was not expecting this drop. My doc was excited about that too. He's a hyper little dude. :-)

Hey all. I made it through the weekend! I was on call all weekend and anyone who has ever done call knows that call has challenges. I was so sleep deprived by the time I got to Sunday. I did very well overall sticking to my plan, though my run on Friday didn't happen, so I just skipped it. And again Sunday due to just being so incredibly tired.
The other thing that comes with sleep deprivation, HUNGER! I spent most of Sunday craving mcdonalds bacon and egg mcmuffins. I nearly went to mcds at 5am. Only the fact I was doing IF stopped me, so that's a bonus! But by the time I got to 6pm I just couldn't contain myself and I ate a sandwich, several chocolates, several cookies and a hot chocolate (see a theme lol).
So that was a minor annoyance. But cest la vie. Happens! Today was back to normal. Im less tired today and no call for about 10 days whew.
I went for an easy 4k run this morning, it was lovely out. Tomorrow is a weight session. Still on track.10 -

A race that crowded it is usually impossible to run the proper tangents so your watch distance is probably closer than the actual race distance. If you really want to check to pull up the map and zoom in along your route. If the GPS has you in places you were not then you had poor satellite reception. If not then you really ran that far.
City routes with tall buildings on all sides are notorious for blocking GPS.
Went back and looked at the route and it was rather squiggly, especially towards the end, when it thought I was going through buildings and jumping fences... yeah.@noblsheep - congratulations even if not a PB it is still a great job! That is a huge race! Do they separate the starts for the different distances? Most of the big races I have been to have the shorter distances either on a different day or well split from the longer distances.
Nope, all 38,000 people in three distances had the same gun time. Took me 15 minutes to pass through the starting line. To think of it, I've never seen waved starts in China, or the races I've done in Japan either. Osaka Marathon also had upwards of 30,000 people and it took nearly half an hour to pass over the starting mat.Congratulations @noblsheep! 3 minutes off without a Garmin is darn good! Did you finish before the slowest VIP? Reading your race report made me miss running!
Thanks! I was actually one of the first of our group to finish the 10km race, because all the faster runners chose the full.

Hmmm... wasn't so tired after all, after I got going. Biked to the track, did some intervals (200/400/800/400/200m at faster-than-5k pace, then 4x100 fast as I could). Actually felt good. Being able to breathe really helps, haha. Then biked home, raked some leaves and am ready for my day.

sooo, i was wondering if someone would like to nag me.
my husband used to nag me to run. now i have no one and motivation is not enough. but being a people pleaser, i would hate to disappoint someone so i'll run.
what it would look like is i'd have a plan i'd share and if i don't run, i get nagged.
bf refuses to nag me.
speed demon is just as happy on the couch as on a run. cuddler is old and likes staying in more. current foster doesn't need to run. trying to put weight on her.
long term goals, improve my mke marathon time and do the fall 50 next fall. probably find a 50k someplace inbetween.
i like running but funk and laziness has made me not tie on my shoes.

Cloudy, mid-30s F and no wind today. First time I felt strong enough to up the pace to moderate in a while.
