Way to get the nagging started. LOL
@Teresa502 Sounds like a fun weekend. Glad you enjoyed the run, even if it was a little short. Wonder why they didn't start the race inside Dollywood so that the entire 5K would be inside the park? It really is pretty with all of the Christmas lights.4 -

Next is to find someone to go chase her... @mbaker566 What are you most scared of? It has to be something that a person can dress as, like a clown or something... a bee or a snake wouldn't work unless it is really big. But actually, a really super big snake would be really scare, eh?8 -

@mbaker566! You need to get yourself a plan and get out there and run. Consistency is the key to meeting your goals and you better get to it! (How's that? Do you feel nagged?)

It's a rare day when a treadmill run feels pretty good, and this was one of them. I was listening to a pretty upbeat new song on repeat and punched up the speed a little bit a few times so I could get 5k done before strength training started.
Strength training went well too. I practiced the rope climb a bunch of times (it's not a very high rope, so can't go too far each time). I also did box jumps and equaled my highest jump - still not getting it consistently but will get there! And I went up to a new highest weight pulling/pushing the sled. And I am still on my 5 pull-ups a day streak and they seem to be going better. Feeling pretty accomplished about all that.
My gym outfit was a bit of a look today. I wanted to wear long socks to prevent rope burn, but forgot that I had packed my camo capri pants. The cheetah print socks and camo pants were a choice. But it worked!13 -
On Friday night, I ran the Light the Way 5K held at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We rented a cabin in the mountains and made it into a girls’ weekend trip. Packet pick-up was held at Splash Country which is closed for the season so parking was easy and the pick-up process was well organized and quick. In addition to the race shirt in the packet we also had a light-up Rudolph nose and a jingle bell necklace. The race started at 11:19 pm in one of the parking lots outside the park. It was around 35F so not too chilly. There were probably as many walkers as there were runners. It had a very generous cut-off time. All participants had to be finished by 1:00 a.m. We decided to take our time and enjoy the lights so we fell in towards the back of the crowd but then decided we would run a bit to get warm. This was easier said than done however since we were behind a lot of walkers and had to weave around them. The parking lot portion of the run was rather boring but once we were turned into the park there were lights everywhere and it was beautiful. I was disappointed that the course was short. (My non-runner co-workers do not understand the disappointment.) My Garmin read 2.80 when I crossed the finish line and my friends had similar distances so it wasn’t just me. The snack table had a good spread with an assortment of cookies, apples, bananas, granola bars, chocolate milk, juice and water.
Oh, we love Dollywood! We have not been there in a few years, and did not know about the 5k. Might do that one next year if I remember its existence!2 -
So today I tried a new plan. See with winter coming on, I will have to limit my cold exposure due to Raynaud's. So I had the idea today that I would run 6 miles on the dreadmill, then 7.1 miles outside. This would mean I would START my outside run while already warm, and be out there much less time.
I mean technically it did work in that I was warm right away and I was out there less time, but changing from heat gear (worn on the dreadmill) to the tight-fitting cold gear while sweaty and overheated was not enjoyable. Plus I started out my run WET (6 miles in the indoor heat will do that) which in many respects overcame any heat advantage of the dreadmill time.
Plus I was on a dreadmill for 6 miles. So I do on think I will do that again. If weather forces me on to dreadmill, I will probably just stick to 1 hour and call it done until the weather improves.10 -
@Teresa502 that looks fun and very pretty! 11 pm - that would be a tough start time for me and require a lot of pre-gaming to stay up You and your friends look very festive. Glad you had a fun girls weekend.4

Totally get feeling ripped off by the short course, however it looks like a fun event and a great excuse for a girls’ weekend.3 -

-1 this morning. slept on the sofa due to a poorly child but still got up and went out. So feeling pretty positive, I took it slow with ice on the ground, have been given the frosty garmin badge.
(I dont pay any attention to garmin virtual badges normally but have noticed there is also a toasty badge for running in 100f. Part of me thinks this cant be a good idea by garmin).

@somum I hope your ankle is feeling better, fantastic effort powering through a HM on a hurt ankle!
@noblsheep WTG on your 10k. That's an insane amount of people in one race! Cool medal
@ContraryMaryMary Great job at Xterra!! I tossed up whether to do it, but I decided on the Rotorua half this Sunday instead because I'm positive I wouldn't have been able to stay upright at Waihi. Last time I was just walking in the Karangahake gorge I tripped over on a flat part of the river trail *sigh*
@JMNagain That's a pretty picture
@Teresa502 What a fun looking race! I love Christmas lights, but because it's summer down here it doesn't get dark until 9-10pm we don't get to enjoy them as much as you northern folk. I also get annoyed when a race is short - I've been known to pause my watch at the finish, collect my medal, then finish the distance when I get out of the chute6 -

Noticed that too last year when Garmin gave me my frosty badge. I dunno about anybody else, but I for one am not stepping outside for a run in 100F weather for anything.4 -
So in memory of my Mum, who we said our final farewells to a year ago today, I have registered for my first ever marathon in April 2020. My daughter has joined me. I know this is a mere stroll for many of you however the picture below (which may offend or disgust) was me in May this year. I do love a challenge!12

I’m not sure why I’ve fallen behind on posting here - maybe I’ve just been so focused on trying to live my best practices that I haven’t had time to faff around online as much as usual. In any case, I got caught up on posts this morning (hugs all around, and message me, @mbaker566, if you’d like another for your nag squad), so it’s my turn for an update.
The last time I posted I was hoping for four runs last week but noted that three would be the most I’d done in a month. Well I didn’t get four, but I did get three, including a fantastic long run of 5.32 miles on Saturday that was genuinely the best run I can remember in weeks if not months. I had to take a couple of walking breaks due to a little pain in my left shin (just trying to get in on the action I guess, since usually the R shin is worse) but that’s no big thing.
I’ve worked out a plan that would get me back to half marathon distance by the end of January, when there just happens to be a race offering both 10K and HM distances I’d already been planning on signing up for. This year has definitely reminded me of the old “best laid plans” adage, so I’m just going to be taking it one week at a time and see what happens.

I ran 6.22 miles this morning. It was a beautiful morning for a run. It was dark when I set out but clear and lots of stars. The temperature was about 45°F for the entire run with no wind. It was really lovely. I wore capris with a t-shirt, sleeves and gloves. Other than my hands being really cold and a little numb I was dressed perfectly.
@Teresa502 That 5K looks so fun! I would be annoyed too if the course was short and I have also kept running until I hit the distance when a race is short.
@mbaker566 You really need to get on the ball. I don't see any plans or any runs posted by you.

Very slow, plodding run this morning but at least I got up and did it. Needed to as well, was then at work for nine hours, played badminton, made tea, now I'm off to choir soon. Will be home at 11, can't wait for bed to be honest!
@Teresa502 what is the hug a runner challenge? Never heard of it!
