A beautiful cold and frosty 10K this morning. Set off a bit later and got the benefit of running through the sunrise. Worried not at all about pace and actually really enjoyed it - even all the hills! And it was a respectable 10.21 minute mile average.
Am reading the thread and trying to keep up! Mostly just in awe of some of the distances with ultra marathon plans and talk of BQ as well. Very inspiring! X

Things I saw on my 18k long-for-me run today: colored pencils, a little deer watching me, carrots, weird soap suds on the road, broccoli, 2 cops with a clever little speed trap, and (for the first time) the guy who goes with the baby stroller I frequently see sitting around unattended but loaded up with different junk every time. There may have been boars in some brush I passed, but I didn't see them, so they don't count. Then I took my kids to the pool and saw some guy's butt in the locker room. I could've done without that. Anyway the pool ended up being a good workout with the stairs to the slides, and this circular wall thingy that you go inside with a friend, stand opposite each other and start jumping up & down until you get a good wave going back & forth. I got it going pretty well for the kids but my legs weren't exactly thrilled. Now I'm home and stalling at getting some work done, uh... I mean "recovering".
November goal 100 miles
Upcoming races:
Dec. 14 - CityTrail 5k (#3 of 6)
Jan. 11 - CityTrail 5k (#4 of 6)12 -

@polskagirl01 You saw some very interesting things on your run/during your day. I have been running on the treadmill lately, just because of time constraints and darkness, so nothing interesting on my "route."

@mbaker566 I feel ya with the "nagging"! Since moving back up here (I'm in Lake Geneva), and with everything shifting , I've kinda struggled to get back on any kind of regular plan. Being up here in the cold, there are no constant races to goal for, but I did find a 5K in Burlington in January to work towards. Not your glorious Ultra, but it IS someting, provided I can keep my headaches down. As long as the nagging isn't boot camp style and more of an encouragement, I'll join! And I do have a YMCA membership, has been a life saver on a few occasions, know there are several gyms that are cheap & a "pay as you go" type of thing.
@JulieS3103 That "Trail Sister" group sounds interesting. I have never run in a group other than @ a race, as I'm usually waaaaayyyy slower than most people, but to meet others and start doing trails interests me. How did you find that group?
@PastorVincent I've had Raynouds for years. Difference being, this is my 1st year up in a cold weather environment. I've already had issues with the gloves I brought up with me. I have access to dreadmills (at the Y), yet I sooooo much prefer to run outside. So I am sure full on winter running will be..a challenge to say the least.1 -
@dreamer12151 if you have a chance, Kenosha running company is a nice place. they host runs in the kenosha area. i'll be doing the hateya on the 7th.
they have group runs during the week too1 -
Run 10 miles // Continue Walks
11/11 - walked 2.14 miles
11/12 - RAN 1.04 miles
11/19 - RAN 2.25 miles (3.29 total, 6.71remains)
Didn't do my planned run on Monday (insomnia Sun night, running around in Milwaukee & big homework project due on Monday). Then got busy yesterday morning, worked from 3-7. Was going to just say "oh well" & not do another run, then thought "Hey, I belong to the Y, pay for it, might as well use it!" So, I packed up my bag, thought of @PastorVincent & made sure the bag was thrown into my car as I left for work, and stopped on the way home & got a run in! So it was .75 miles "short of the plan", so it was slow as all, so I had to take 2 showers yesterday. I got it in!10 -

To be honest I'm kinda scared to leave the house now. Who knows what other weird stuff is out there! But alas, gotta pick up the kiddos from school.2 -
No run last night like I had planned. I lifted on Monday.
I had to choose between running and meeting a friend for coffee. She's a new friend I made from church and she said in passing, "sometime you'll have to tell me your whole story." So then we made a coffee date. I felt that sharing my actual testimony was more important than running last night. It means I won't run again until tomorrow (it's Wednesday, so I need to just accept a run is not a possibility in between everything else), but it was worth it.
@polskagirl01 that's my favorite thing - recounting all the interesting things I saw on my run! It sounds like you had a great time!9 -

I have had it forever, but it got WAY WAY worse last year. I live in Pittsburgh, so we get real winters (not like Canada of course, but bellow 0F is a thing here). What I do:
1) Darn Tough Merino Wool Socks - these are awesome. I pick up at least another 10 degrees with them, and if they get wet they actually get a bit WARMER. Great for slush.
2) Hot Hands makes a chemical foot warmer that sticks to the bottom of your sock. These do well to help raise the temperature in your shoes a few degrees. They do not make a huge difference but will push you over in borderline conditions
3) Heat Factory Gloves $20 on Amazon.com These are the best gloves I have found for warmth. They are NOT waterproof and do not work with smartphones, but have a pocket to install a chemical hand warmer.
4) Duct Tape the front of your shoes. I have not tried this yet, but I have been given this suggestion. Running shoes are designed to let air in over the toe box. If you cover this in duct tape, you trap heat in and cold air out.
If all that is not enough, I give up and do an hour on the dreadmill.
Hope this helps.6 -

@mbaker566 - have you considered getting a used treadmill? Sometimes you can find barely used ones pretty inexpensively. Then it would be right there when you are contemplating not running because it is too cold outside and you really don't want to drive to the gym.2 -

@dreamer12151 I found the Trail Sisters group online, it's a facebook group if you search trail sisters waukesha it should pop up and then you just need to request to join. It's all paces and a pretty nice group of ladies. @mbaker566 I'm going to try my first Kenosha running company event this Saturday in Lake Geneva. I'm in Salem so we can definitely meet up sometime. I signed up for my first 50k, I'm doing Hennepin in October and a couple of timed races too.1

i don't really have a place to put it. but i wish
and i don't mind the cold. it's that our sidewalks and trails get iced over and it's not safe to run.2 -

I ran 8 miles this morning. It was really nice. I drove my mother-in-law to a doctor's appointment in Ft. Worth (which is about 100 miles from home) this afternoon so I took the whole day off and had more time in the morning to run than usual. I was hoping to get a longish run in since I knew I would be spending a lot of time in the car. Plus there is a possibility of some rain later today or tomorrow so I don't know if I will get to run tomorrow or not. The run this morning was really nice. It was 58°F and a little humid and windy, but it was less windy earlier today than it is now and really nice weather for running. I don't like to be too hot, but I do like it when I can just throw on shorts and a tank top and be dressed appropriately. And today was just right for that.

So I found a local running group that meets at a time I can just about do. I'm not good at new things but have met one of the leaders and had messaged them to arrange. All day I've been fighting the excuses I could use to bale, and hubby was late home so I was cutting it very fine when I jumped in the car - which then wouldn't start! By the time we got it started it was too late! Proud to say I still went out on my own, 2.5 miles covered.14

Aw, thank you @rheddmobile.
Well done on your 10 day challenge @Teresa502!
@JulieS3103 I joined a new local trail sisters chapter here too. I've only done one run so far but a friend of mine is a co-leader and they seem to have gotten a good group going. I'm hoping to go again soon.

A little shorter treadmill run today and then yoga. It was a great class tonight with lots of deep stretching - much-needed quad and hamstring stretching.6 -
5 miles on the Greenway. Weather was perfect. Saw: 7 deer in a group, another doe with fawn, BATS! night heron, great blue heron, gorgeous sunset with all the colors including indigo and olive green, frustrated man having a fight with his girlfriend, frustrated girlfriend rapidly walking away, a female cyclist with the biggest thigh muscles I’ve ever seen on a woman with low body fat.
In one of the restroom stalls was a young woman sitting on the toilet and having a conversation with her boyfriend on SPEAKERPHONE! Who does that? It was so tempting to make really loud flatulence noises. Not to mention having a man’s voice booming next to me in the ladies’ room while trying to use the john is distracting.
My cold is mostly gone, but we stayed up too late last night playing Planet Zoo so it wasn’t the best run. The spasm in my leg is still doing a thing but I’ve gotten better at ignoring it.11 -
I went for a run and wore my headlamp as a headlamp for the first time ever. I was a bit surprised at how much better it lit up the trail than when I had it on my waist. I might just have to learn to get used to it up there. Also, I was overdressed for the first 1/2, and cold for the second 1/2... yeah sunset into night running.7
-
OH, and saw a tree.11
-
I got it done.
I'm glad i have people to hold me accountable.
It took awhile to find my stride. 2 miles is short. But i did it. Thank you guys15 -
