She said, “Congratulations, you are officially old enough to do it yourself,” and handed me a laundry basket. People who complain about others doing work for them are volunteering to do their own work!
@mbaker566 - old girl is beautiful! She looks so regal!
Thanks for the input on Zyrtec. I did finally get to actually speak with my daughter about it and she recommended the regular formula and not the non-drowsy one. I took one tonight so we shall see if it helps and hopefully doesn't cause any issues.5 -
Haven't posted a mileage update in a few days... Going ahead and posting through tomorrow since we are heading to Palm Desert for the race in the morning and will get in just a good walk at the expo.

Short easy 5k-ish run today. I might've gone too fast at times, as it was supposed to feel like a recovery run, but I made up for it with walk breaks. They cut down a bunch of trees next to the "secret military base" in the woods looks like they've cleared a little plot out for something. Hmmm.
November goal 100 miles
Upcoming races:
Dec. 14 - CityTrail 5k (#3 of 6)
Jan. 11 - CityTrail 5k (#4 of 6)5 -
Sadly my Browns running shoes are going to have to be put to one side. I bought them about 3 years ago as a pair to keep in another office so flying between I could stick to carry on baggage. At the time I was much heavier and not running at all. It turns out these are neutral and I pronate which is giving a pain in the inside of my left ankle especially. I want to go hunting for a new pair however I think I will go back to my Asics until Christmas and see if there are any gift cards under the tree. Normally I end up giving gift cards to my children or not using them at all. I wonder how much shops make from idiots like me not spending them?3

If you are in the market for a hydration vest, I highly recommend the Wunjo line ( I run in the X5 Ultra) and they just announced their Black Friday sale:
25% off the whole store + amazing offers in our biggest ever BFCM sale
Use the link above or enter the code BFCM2019 at checkout.
Discount is valid until 2. December at 23:59
Offers will change & vary all through the sale.
Check in often...
This is the vest I run in all the time, as does my wife:
https://wunjosports.com/products/wunjo-x5-ultra-advanced-hydration-backpack-10-1-5-l?variant=6158012743718
Normal price is $60, so even without the sale it is a good price, but 25% off is never a bad thing, right?6 -

Thanks @PastorVincent I'm not sure I am to the point that I need a hydration pack, but am hoping to get up to a HM next year. Will probably need it next summer, so may just make that a Christmas wish list item.

Missed most of the rain this morning. Just a few sprinkles and it’s been raining non-stop since then. Supposed to continue through tomorrow. May delay long run until Sunday.
@katharmonic – your running streak is getting right up there with @AlphaHowls! Good luck with your Spartan – hope it’s a fun one!
@shanaber – Good luck with your half this weekend!

I haven't run this week! Gahhhhh!!!!! So frustrating! It's due to the massively, ever changing needs of my children and torrential rain. My long run tomorrow is scheduled to be 8.5 miles. I'm pretty excited about it. I did manage to lift throughout the week because it doesn't require me to leave the house. I also have been eating a lot of tofu. Scott Jurek's, "Eat and Run," inspired me to try a plant based diet. I've basically failed already; However, I also read that it is better to think about what I can INCORPORATE as opposed to what I am cutting out. Seems to be working fine except it hasn't been long enough and I haven't run all week to be able to tell if it's impacting my running.
We hit the road Wednesday for Thanksgiving family get together and on Monday, we have friends coming to town from Texas, so I won't get to run that night either. Maybe Tuesday after work, after I'm done packing. That would at least get me two runs in next week.
We shall see.
Good job to all of you who are keeping at it!
Also, secret military bases are the best! I often run past this really strange, miniature looking compound thing. No idea what it is, but it's certainly interesting.
Currently, I'm reading a book called "Endure," which is basically about pain tolerance and endurance. It reads like a lot of different research papers and studies and I haven't determined what the bottom line is. I'm not sure there is one. I'm starting to wonder if the point of the book is just to present all the ideologies surrounding performance and endurance. *Shrugs*7 -
I ran 2.25 miles outside today after maintenance man #1 was done (and after I walked each dog a mile which took 45 min because one dog is so slow for his mile) and I still had wet hair from my shower when maintenance man #2 showed up early. But I'm glad I crammed in the run bc although the temperature supposedly didn't change it sure felt much colder later. I made a grocery run in the same clothes I wore to walk the dogs and I was freezing.
I did an out and back with a 1/3 mile hill. I made it up fine and it was nice to turn around and run back down.
Since my husband is doing the long walks on weekends for his weight loss efforts I decided I can run Mon/Tues/Thur/Fri and not try to run on weekends right now.
Have a great weekend everyone!7 -
A couple of drinks last night, a slight twinge in my foot...just enough excuses to stop at 5km rather than continue for the planned long run.
Since I am struggling with intervals at the moment for long runs I had pulled the run interval right back to a 16/1min . So I ended up doing a 5k with 2 walk breaks ( I hit 5k at the end of my 2nd walk). *shrugs*
Lesson learned, no alcohol before runs.
November goals (all ish)

3. 100km........................71km
4. Long 10km.................11km

I’ve been having weird calf pain for a few days. At first I thought it was calf soreness from trail running, but it didn’t go away in a timely fashion. I always imagine the worst so I was torn between imagining a blood clot and a second rupture of my Baker’s cyst. Well... probably not a blood clot, since the pain is 95% gone now. Based on what it felt like and where it was located it seems to have been a leakage from the Baker’s cyst. Which makes sense, since rough trail running is very hard on my knees, and my knee was already feeling a little spongy before the trail run.
I was told when I had an MRI of the cyst that there basically isn’t a cyst as such anymore, it ruptured to the point that synovial fluid can just leak out all willy-nilly into the space behind my knee whenever the knee gets annoyed enough to start overproducing fluid. From there it trickles down the back of the calf muscle and causes inflammation, since synovial fluid is essentially acid. That seems to be what happened. It’s done it very slightly a few times before but not recently, so it caught me by surprise, but the pain is in exactly the same place it was the first time this happened. The cure is rest, icing, and compression.
Anyway it seems okay now, after an extra day of rest. And I don’t mind that today was a rest day since it was wet and cold.
Hoping to get some miles tomorrow. I’ve been told that as long as I can stand it, there’s no reason not to run on it, apart from being uncomfortable it’s not going to damage anything worse than it already is, since it’s already ruptured.12 -

Upcoming races:
Dec. 14 - CityTrail 5k (#3 of 6)
Jan. 11 - CityTrail 5k (#4 of 6)
2019k in 2019!
Now they've put a "Warning: Dangerous Area" at one entrance to the woods (probably a mile from where they were clearing trees)... but because of where it was, I didn't see it until I was leaving. Oh well. It didn't seem particularly unsafe, and the sign didn't stop the boy scouts I saw hiking through (who HAD gone past the sign), so I'm just going to shrug my shoulders and keep running there until they get more specific8 -

Probably want to keep your ears and eyes open. They might be setting up a live fire range.2 -
I hope you are feeling better @rheddmobile ? Congratulations on registering for your 50k @JulieS3103 which sounds quite some challenge. Well done @Teresa502 on your HARD challenge.
Good luck in your HM today @shanaber and I hope you enjoy your 2k @eleanorhawkins
So many people doing so well!
5 days into my marathon training plan and I have only missed 3 of them, the other 2 were rest days - Nailed 'em!8 -
@rheddmobile is there anything that can be done about that? I would think all that inflammation will cause scar tissue and be a mess.1

It snowed! It’s supposed to be clear and 42 this afternoon. That’s pleasant enough for 8.5 miles!
I didn’t sleep well. I was dreaming about the new leggings and hoodie I ordered arriving today - they were supposed to be here Thursday I kept dreaming that UPS said they were delivered and I kept checking the front porch and there they were! When I woke up, I thought it was all real.
So presently, I’m having coffee #1 and stalling getting ready while i wait by the window
I know, I’m a child rotfl7 -

Run at least 4 5k races. Completed 8-31
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k. Nope...
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen - Completed 9-28
Yesterday was technically a rest day, although I don't know how babysitting a 3 year old boy with more energy than my wife and I combined could even remotely be considered rest.
Clear, frosty, and high 20s F this morning with no wind. Cool enough for a water beard, but too warm for an ice beard.
Think young, everybody!! I'll be 68 on my next birthday and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.
2020 goals:
Continue a 5k regimen.
Train better.

How specific? Like "Timber"
Specific like:
"No Entry"
"Warning: Rabid Dog Area"
"Tree cutting ahead"
"Construction Area"
"Area under threat of Swine Flu"
I've seen signs like those before. But a generic "dangerous area" sign at one entry point to a forest that has multiple other entry points without signs, doesn't say much to me other than "be careful", especially when I've just come through the whole forest and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. If there was a serious threat, I'm pretty sure they'd block the area off. But yes, I'll be watching out, and know the area well enough to reroute if I hear anything or need to avoid the military base.5 -
Cranked out a couple more miles on the treadmill in my gym class this morning. Didn’t take my sprint up to maximum pace, but I did up my base speed and maintained good pace up all the hills. Hoping to get out for a decent outdoor run tomorrow

11/11 - walked 2.14 miles
11/12 - RAN 1.04 miles
11/19 - RAN 2.25 miles
11/20 - RAN 1.57 miles

I tried to talk myself out of the run this morning. I got up & got dressed right away for it. Still thinking "eh". Walked my dog & realized , "Damn, it's cold! You don't HAVE to run, you have homework to do instead. Na, you can go to the Y...hell, you are already dressed, you have run in falling snow before, just DO IT!" So I did. Week 1 done!

@mbaker566 Oh, Cuddler is beautuful!
This is Emma, my "old gal" a few years ago (2016) after my 1st run after my plantar fasciitis surgery & our last run together.11 -
Hi all! It's been two weeks since I have posted a run. Both knees and shins have been hurting for the past few weeks, and after my 20 miler a couple weeks ago, I just couldn't stand the pain any longer. It hurt just to walk. So I just totally shut down for a week, then started taking walks with the wife after work. Just this past Thursday I could walk without feeling pain.
So yesterday I did a 2 mile test jog indoors, and that felt ok. Today I took it outside, and it didn't hurt as bad as I expected. So continuing to take it slow.
Needless to say, my marathon in December is going to be a DNS 😒
And my yearly goal of 2019k is in serious jepordy.

Today’ forecast called for 100% chance of rain beginning at 5:00 am and continuing throughout the day. I was wishy-washy about running. All in my usual group were either out of town or did not want to run in the rain. Some other friends were running but not until 7:30 am and I needed an earlier start due to other commitments later in the day. I didn’t set my alarm but it wasn’t raining when I woke and after I poked around doing laundry, starting a crock-pot of chili, etc. I headed to town. There is a route near my work site that I feel comfortable running alone in the dark. The plant at work runs 24/7 and shift change is at 6:00 am/pm so there is always a lot of traffic out and about. I got started about 6:10 am and it wasn’t raining. I got about 2 ½ miles in before it started and the rain continued pouring down until I finished my 12 miles. When I circled back to my car at 6 miles to get a drink of water there were 5 guys heading out for their run so I didn’t feel like the only crazy person out running. It really wasn’t bad though. The temp was around 48F so I didn’t get cold at all and I was able to get a hot shower at the office gym as soon as I finished.
@Scott6255 – hate you will have a DNS for your race but so glad you are listening to your body and giving it the rest it is crying out for! There will be other races but you only have one body.
@rheddmobile – sorry your Baker’s cyst is troubling you again.

Well today was a bust. Kinda. I stalled waiting for my package for a while and putted around the house like a lazy person. And THEN my guts revolted. I’ve never had anything like this happen before but it was BAD for HOURS. I laid in bed for a very long time and read my son’s messages about why he needs a pug puppy for Christmas. Among other things. Every time I got vertical there was another eruption.
I do not know what caused this. EXCEPT IT IS PROBABLY THAT I INDULGED IN TACO BELL LAST NIGHT AFTER EATING SO CLEAN FOR WEEKS. Never again!
Then i started thinkin about how ultra runners survive worse WHILE RUNNING. David Goggins survived three hell weeks. Scott Jurek vomited multiple times on an ultra run and told himself “this is what you came for.”
I am not these people. But I am resolute.
So I got out of bed once I believed the worst had subsided. Also found out my package was at the post office. Drank a bunch of water and pepto and went to the post office as a test. Survived that. Got home, drank more pepto, and went to the gym.
I managed just over 2.5 miles and lifted. I am glad I did it, but now I am back home hoping I didn’t excite my guts .....
I plan to do the long, 8.5 miles tomorrow, God-willing😳12 -
I will post a race report tomorrow but the short version is that I ran and was having a great race until mile 9 when my knee started hurting. From then on it hurt whenever I tried to run so I just walked pretty much to the end. Any other race I think I would have DNFd. Also the organization of this race was terrible! I got my Tiffany's runner necklace!13
-
I ran. It was a fun event. And it wasn't super cold. And there was hot chocolate10

Nope. If hubby wants ironed shirts, there is the iron and ironing board. Go for it.
I also put people first but have learned to put in place boundaries due to my anxiety. Also I am the full time worker, and he's stay at home dad, so that makes a difference.
