@mbaker566 well done! I hope your cross-training is better then mine, which today will be ironing (grrr my family need to stop wearing clothes!)6 -
November goal 100 miles
Upcoming races:
Dec. 14 - CityTrail 5k (#3 of 6)
Jan. 11 - CityTrail 5k (#4 of 6)
Had a good 8k run today in the rain. Felt strong. Stopped to pet my big black dog friend.
Made a lil' ticker for my 2019k in 2019 goal. I'm definitely on track! (Someday maybe I'll be able to graduate to miles. Not this year, though!)

Simple solution to that, don't iron!6 -
@rheddmobile I love reading about the things you see, and hear, on your runs. I saw some unknown critter this morning when I took my puppy dog out this morning, in the dark. She lunged for the hill. I yelled no. She stopped, and I saw something scamper off from the top if the hill. Too dark to see what it was. Just saw a white tail fairly low to the ground. So, it was either a baby deer (which shouldn't be that small this time of the year) or a large rabbit hopping higher than normal to get away.
@PastorVincent Had to laugh at your post. I see trees too. Just not that pretty.
@mbaker566 I agree with @Avidkeo . Just don't iron. I hang things up as soon as the dryer dings and iron so rarely, I was surprised where I found my iron when cleaning the other day. LOL4 -

Pittsburgh has some strange trees. Saw this one too:
And this one is side the mall

Other than the suite I wear for weddings and funerals (when I am presiding), I own essentially no clothes that need ironing.3 -

What I saw last night on my run... no photo, but spoiler for those who are squeamish at the description:As is the situation these days, my weekday runs are after dark. So I go from home to a park (just over 1 mile away) and then do laps around the paved trail to hit mileage. I often use a handheld light since it is dark. On the way out, I didn't notice this, but on the way back, my light hit on something in the road ahead of me. This particular street has no sidewalk, and is a residential side street, so I run in the road. Sections are poorly lit, including this section.
Anyway, as I got closer and was able to see clearly (with the help of my light) that there was a freshly run over armadillo that was broken open and stuff was still oozing out. Yuck, glad I didn't trip over it.5 -
@mbaker566 Great that you got out there! I was thinking of you yesterday when I pushed myself out the door myself! And thanks for the tip of Kenosha Running group. I actually saw their website a while back, but never delved too much into it. I'll do some poking around now. I did see the canicross and it looks interesting, but I can't do that now with my girl, I'm afraid. She's going to be 13 in December, and just not a good running partner.
@JulieS3103 Thanks also for the trail running group. Next time I'm on FB, I might check them out.
@PastorVincent You rock with the Raynoud's help! I will have to incorporate some of those for sure! I know last year when I was up here for vacay & ran in the snow the 1 pair of Merino socks I had were lifesavers! Will have to get a few more pairs.3 -
Run 10 miles // Continue Walks
11/11 - walked 2.14 miles
11/12 - RAN 1.04 miles
11/19 - RAN 2.25 miles
11/20 - RAN 1.57 miles (4.86 total, 5.14 remains)
I am doing the Hal Hidgon Base Training Novice plan to help get me back on a track. Starting with week 2, since I have a 5K on my schedule in January & it works out, plus gives me a week after of a plan as well. I've modified the days to what I was doing for the 15K training: Mon- Thur train, Fri rest, Sat train, Sun rest schedule as that works for me. (I know the walks are only supposed to be 30 mins, but I'll be doing longer than that, except for the one before the 5K)
So while I was "supposed" to walk this morning, it was raining, so I decided to just flip the days and I'll "rest" today & take a beautiful, muddy walk tomorrow, in the woods while listening to my "Cults" podcast!5 -

It wasn't raining/thundering when I got up this morning so I ran 6 miles. I was so glad because I really needed a good run this morning. It was about 63°F and kind of humid, but not too uncomfortable. I was worried that it would be stormy this morning and I wouldn't get to run, but there wasn't any lightening and no rain although there was still some water on the roads from last night's rain. It was an uneventful run, but I enjoyed just kind of getting lost in my thoughts and running.

Question for the group. TLDR at the bottom if you want to jump to just the question.
Yesterday on my run I touched/hit a plant that sort of looks like aloe vera with my finger where my wedding ring normally is (I don't wear it when I run). It stung and bled a bit and I rinsed it off in the drinking fountain when I got up to the trail and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward... I came home showered and went to put my ring back on and it hurt like hell making me realize how swollen it was. I did not attempt to take my ring back off. Later in the day my finger was very swollen and purple beyond the first joint. I sent a picture to my doctor daughter who told me I needed to get the ring off. With much soap and pain I was able to get it off and realized it was swollen, sore and purple all the way back to my knuckle. This morning it the swelling is down mostly but it is still sore and very discolored. Daughter wants me to take Zyrtec 2x/day for 3 days. I have a HM on Saturday and am concerned about taking it and having issues during the race.
Has anyone any experience with taking Zyrtec before/during a race and any issues with it? I know we are all different but just wondering if I should be concerned.5 -

Dryers are not a thing anyone without a title to their name and a bank balance to match have here, due to the exhorbitant price of electricity. I rarely wear anything that needs ironing myself, since my lifestyle change I pretty much live in running/sports gear but my family is badly trained and gets mortally offended at the prospect of not wearing exactly what they want and it being pristine and wrinkle-free. My fault for allowing them to expect it, the same as everything else related to housework, cooking, etc., but if I dare to suggest they do it themselves then I'm that witch we were talking about the other day. **sigh**
@shanaber nothing I can say to help, but ouch! Hope it resolves quickly with no ill effects. Maybe take the race extra easy and pay attention to how you're feeling...
The local council is running a 2k family charity 'race' on Sunday as part of their programme re International Day For the Elimination of Violence Against Women, so we all signed up for it. So I rearranged my schedule for this week and moved my long run to tomorrow. Lo and behold, it started raining yesterday and it forecast to continue until tomorrow night. A bit of rain doesn't bother me, although the met office alerts for heavy rains and strong winds are a little discouraging. My weather app is being a total wuss and telling me it's a terrible day to run tomorrow. So guess who's going to get wet, lol! I am however going to be sensible and change my route, running up the side of a dried river bed that's known for flash flooding and stuff probably isn't the best idea in the world. Mind you, the seafront promenade alternative may also be interesting if the tide comes up..... Maybe I'll take water wings just in case.

Zyrtec does not impact a run for me, but Zyrtec-D can cause a spike in blood pressure so maybe be wary of that.

I don't own a dryer, either. I do find I'm a LOT better at keeping up with laundry when I have to hang it up. Fortunately washers have faster spin cycles and stuff dries relatively quickly.
I'm sorry you get stuck with extra stuff to do and it sounds like not much appreciation around the house.

5km, raining. Cold. I was being fairly deliberate with my footing and limited with my effort. So the fairly standard time is a positive.
November goals (all ish)
1. 15 runs.......................10
3. 100km........................66km
4. Long 10km.................11km
5. 100% Morning runs...6/105 -
Thankfully, we have a gas dryer. Way cheaper than electric.3
-
@shanaber - sorry about the pain and swelling. I personally don't have any issues with Zyrtec and have taken it daily in the past.

I had a short treadmill warmup before strength training this morning and then ran with a friend after work. She wanted to meet at 4:30 and I said I'd have to stop home to get my lights and she seemed doubtful. Yes, my friend, sunset is at 4:37 pm. But in the plus column, it was a pretty comfortable 43 degrees which felt about perfect for running.
I'm heading off for another Spartan race this weekend, so tomorrow will probably be a rest day. This race is on Long Island so it should be flat and more runnable than the mountain ones I've done. We'll see how that goes!7 -
@shanaber Any kind of antihistamine whether it's Benadryl or a non-drowsy long-acting antihistamine gives me horrible dry mouth. I hope that's not the case for you but you may need extra water or something to suck on like Ludens if you get so dry it's hard to swallow
@eleanorhawkins I hate ironing and my husband likes his shirts ironed. I occasionally try to get a weeks worth done but usually I iron his shirt for the day after I make his breakfast before 6am He's not a butt about it or anything but I'm always putting others first.
I ran 2 miles on the treadmill after work. Maybe tomorrow I'll get outside but I have a couple of maintenance guys coming, one any time after 8am and the other around 1pm, so who knows how that will work out.1 -
@T1DCarnivoreRunner Yuck! I'm glad you didn't step in it too. I usually feel really sorry for road kill.
@shanaber I have not guidance re Zyrtec, but I think I would go back and try to identify the plant. That might help you decide the best course of action to take. Hope it doesn't affect your race.
@eleanorhawkins Now I understand. I guess, as we all do, I assumed that your situation was similar to myself and those I am close to. (At least I hope I am not the only one who does this.) I grew up without a dryer, but really would have a hard time without one, now that I am used to it. It is hard to change a situation once it is ingrained in the family dynamic. It's possible. But it's hard. Good luck to you.
@PastorVincent Cuddler is adorable!

@eleanorhawkins my husband does his own laundry... and although I don’t have children I was raised that children do their own laundry starting when they are old enough to do it. This started for me when I was about nine and asked my mother in a sharp tone of voice where some piece of clothing was. She said, “Congratulations, you are officially old enough to do it yourself,” and handed me a laundry basket. People who complain about others doing work for them are volunteering to do their own work!8
