other than finding time, i have no excuses this weekend. it's going to be almost 50f
in comparison, it was 7f when i got home last night from the studio
this was in my news feed. i like that one of the things it lists for marathon training is to say why you are ready. so many times, we can point out the short comings in our training.1 -
Sometimes when shooting wildlife, you really nail the timing, the subject, the location, AND the focus...This was not one of those times!8

I had my doctor order another over night oximetry test to see if I could get off of the machine. It helps, but really is a pain in the you know what. She got the results and said I only went below 90% sat for less than 3 minutes so.....no more CPAP required!!! Yet another reason to continue to run and keep my weight down.
YAY!! Congrats!2 -
@quilteryoyo Thank you! I had him at 41 1/2 years old and I never want to be the old mom, to look like the old mom. I think running helps me stay in shape. My father in law has run hundreds of marathons, one in every state + many many more to include every one in WI. He's been at it for about 40 years. Plus brother in law and sister in law run marathons. I just want little guy to find strength in that somehow. Yes, I do hope he runs but I would never push...
...I am so happy for you that you get to dump your CPAP. And woohoo, pretty legs in a cute dress! You rock it lovely lady! You got all kinds of happy blessings going on right now!
@shanaber Thank you so much! He inspires me...he's a Texan born baby but in laws, aunts and uncles from WI make sure he has no shortage of Packers and Brewers gear.
...I don't know how it feels to be told you can't do something or that you must cut back, but I know you said it's discouraging and I'm sorry. Life is full of adjustments, I guess, and not always fun. Rest up, re-evaluate and get back on that horse...or sidewalk or trail or track... your determination to keep going is beautiful. It will take someone to tell me to cut back or to stop before I ever would cease doing what brings me pleasure, which says we're headstrong and determined.
@Teresa502 Thank you...
This is a picture of my 17 year old cross country runner. She runs on one of the top teams in central Texas. Smaller meets, these girls rock them all! They win them, a mad rush of red in front to the finish line! Don't stand next to me if you don't like the obnoxious parent because my adrenaline soars and I scream like a freaking maniac. My vocal cords are shot after these meets. These girls are better than rock stars! For bigger meets, they place in the top 3. They were 3rd place out of 39 teams in central Texas last year. She hates the way she scrunches her face up when she runs but I love these pictures and have hundreds of pictures of this champ running over the years.
I used those hand warmers when skiing as a youth. They're nice but I'd invest in nice gloves before I'd ever buy hand warmers again. It doesn't really get that cold here, though. No snow, I can only wish...3 -

Great pic! Even better kiddo! You scream and cheer all you want. Itis great when parents are so invested in their kids.
But it was 9F here this morning... I will keep investing in handwarmers

Awwwwwwww, thank you! I'm dreading the "cold" on 49° days so y'all that get out there in the ice are amazing! Sun is shining today, though, so it doesn't really feel that cold when I'm moving.0 -

I can tell it's a squirrel. I just can't tell if it's a fox squirrel or a gray squirrel.🦄0 -
@LoveyChar You look fabulous girl! Not old at all.0

The belly looks a little rusty, so I'll guess fox squirrel.
Normally, your pictures are good enough to eliminate all doubt.🦌0 -

I haven’t been posting on here or even reading as much as I thought I would when I retired but I wanted to wish Everyone a Merry Christmas & Happy New Running Year. I’m going to try to get a couple easy runs in when I return from our Christmas Vacation. My Garmin tells me I’ve been Overreaching since December 13 & my VO2 Max has gone from 42 to 40😢 so maybe this long week of rest is needed.🌲🏃🏻♀️6

PastorVincent - Yeah, You probably won’t!😂0

I did some stretching at the gym again this morning. I decided to try out the treadmill again and do at least 15 minutes. That felt okay so I kept going at an easy pace to get to 3 miles.
Then I had a fabulous massage. I've been to this massage therapist a number of times so she knows me and she really identified the sore spots and worked on them, and stretched things out. Not only my lower back but she worked on my IT bands a lot, which I have decided are probably the underlying problem. Well, really I think the underlying problem might have been my shoes, and then sore/tight IT bands and hamstrings, and then the back issue. So I definitely need to be working on these issues to prevent a worse injury.
@shanaber, I'm really sorry to hear your news about your knee. I'm always reluctant to believe pronouncements like you should never run long again. but if you feel like that is a good medical opinion in your case, I hope you can keep enjoying shorter runs, walk/run or whatever feels good to you.
@PastorVincent hope your neck is okay. Neck pain is awful.
@quilteryoyo fabulous news on not needing CPAP any longer. Well done on your positive health changes!

Thanks @LoveyChar . I am blessed right now. Just found out tonight I'm having my 5th great-grand baby in May. It's a boy. (Step great grandkids. My husband was a lot older than me. We never had kids of our own because of that, but I am close to his family.) Glad your son will grow up with all of that athleticism around him. Then, he can choose what he wants to do, but at least he'll know that exercise is important.

3ish miles tonight. I ran Tuesday too, so it definitely feels good to be getting back into my routine. Weekly miles will certainly not add up to my long run and I need to find a way to remedy that without stressing so much. But my long runs are going well so maybe I’m being too hard on myself. Again, I ran longer without stopping than I have to date, so tonight was still an accomplishment and felt amazing. When i got home, I did some Bulgarian split squats with weight added and some lunches and some core work. That should help with endurance also.
I am almost finished with 80/20 Running and I have to say - the science behind easy running is phenomenal! I love knowing that as long as I’m running I am progressing, whether I’m doing it on purpose or not.
44 degrees F tonight and boy did that feel vastly different than the 27 degrees on Tuesday! Light tee shirt hoodie with leggings and that was it! Might be time for some body glide though. What IS that dtuff? What is it made of? What does it smell like? And is it safe to put ANYWHERE?! 😂😩😩2 -
Camaramandy648 wrote: »And is it safe to put ANYWHERE?! 😂😩😩
Anywhere 😉
I ran. More details in the morning6 -
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas. I am leaning toward doing a walk/run similar to what I have done previously. I am going to enjoy it and have fun with it.
Also a note of clarification. None of the ortho team has suggested that I can never run long or never run another HM. The point was that with the specific type of arthritis in that knee, the longer runs are very detrimental. My ortho doc is a rheumatologist and has always encouraged my running and distances. The issue if I continue to run longer distances is the damage to my knee will speed up and become more and more painful. By not pushing myself to run those distances I will be able to run longer overall. Eventually I will likely need to have a knee replacement but I am hoping to push it off as long as possible.
I got out for a nice little run with Hobbes but it was longer than it should have been considering my long runs should be no more than 6 now and this was almost 5. It is going to be hard I can already tell, to not run like I am used to pushing it. I did do my PT exercise before I ran and I had strength training late this afternoon. Spent some time reviewing with my trainer the limitations the ortho team is recommending.

NO run yesterday, but that was in part dues to my neck still hurting and in part due to it was opening day of Rise of Skywalker.
It was excellent. That is all I will say in a public forum for now. If you are at all a fan of the series, go see it.8 -

External use only to be clear but any place you might rub you can put it. You can also use a cheap solid style deodorant. You know the white ones that get on your clothes real easy?
As for what it is, essentially it is wax.4 -
Changing up my usual morning run to running after work today to enjoy the Christmas lights. We used to have a local Christmas Lights Run but it has fallen by the wayside for the past couple of years. I’m not sure why because it was always well attended.
@shanaber – At your recommendation, I ordered a pair of capris from Handful during their Black Friday sales event. I kept waiting and waiting to receive them. Went back through my emails and couldn’t find a shipping notice so thought I would check my next credit card statement to see if I got charged for them and maybe they had gotten lost in the mail. Finally, yesterday I had a package waiting for me. They included a nice note apologizing for the delay due to some glitch with shipping it and they threw in a cute trucker’s hat for the delay. Now that’s customer service! I’m planning on giving the capris a try this evening.9 -

@quilteryoyo Congratulations on the grandbaby boy!
@shanaber Nice job on the miles! Nice job on incorporating strength and agility training into your daily workouts too.
@Teresa502 I should get out there and do the same! Sounds fun! Enjoy your run tonight!
I hit 64.7 miles last night. I'm going to try to get out with little guy before noon and rain chances increase. Husband is home all weekend and I'm going to get a long one in tomorrow and, hopefully, Sunday too. Goal is to get 75 miles, cumulatively, in tomorrow. I have never listened to music on my runs, even on my long ones. But tonight my hubby is going to show me how to download music onto my phone. This should make for a fun run, I think. I'm excited! It's the little things in life...
Have a happy Friday, y'all!
@Camaramandy648 Nice job on the run and be patient with yourself! You know you're pushing and you'll work your way up...6 -

You will love it, I think! I ALWAYS listen to music on my runs but have recently turned the volume down so that I can pay better attention to my surrounds as well as my breathing. I can't imagine running without music! I grew up in a household where we always had James Brown or Chubby Checker on and Mom was always dancing around. Recently, I tried a podcast and it was pretty enjoyable too.
I hope you have fun!3
