Great job! You can get there with your eyes closed (but I don't recommend it 😏)
No I am still sitting at 2003. MIGHT be able to get out today, but looks doubtful. Hopefully tomorrow.
@mbaker566 that new foster is beautiful!
@Avidkeo you know there is no question that we'll welcome you back! Come back easy though.
@polskagirl01 so cool that you met your monthly AND yearly goals. No go eat. all.
the. food. and enjoy the rest of the year!
@username301 Congrats on your longest run ever!
@Camaramandy648 I agree! This group changes you (for the better for the most part 😁)3 -
@mbaker566 I hope the adoption will still go through. Our 12 year old min pin has a collapsing trachea and it really isn't too much of a problem (at least for us). She does cough a lot and it sounds awful, but she is still happy and bright eyed. I just don't take her on walks that are too long anymore. I tried giving her honey. But she did not like it. The first time I gave it to her she ate it, but the next time she sniffed at it then looked at me and started slowly backing away. We have tried some medications but nothing has helped to much, but it is a manageable chronic thing.
@cameramandy648 I know what you mean. I have never been a morning person especially on the weekends and now I get up early on Sundays and if there is something going on I will usually get up even earlier rather than skip my run. I do still take Saturday as a rest day though.3 -

A very cold morning run today - it was 9 degrees but felt colder. It wasn't even particularly windy but just the kind of cold that really permeates. I felt okay during the run but the footing a little dicey in some spots so I was extra cautious, and therefore quite slow. My friends were running longer but that's all I had in me for today, so I made my escape to get coffee and head home for a hot shower.
And that makes 2024 km for the year (1258 miles), so run the year in km is done! @Scott6255 thank you - I certainly kept my eyes open on this one, looking to avoid spots of ice. Good luck finishing yours up soon.
Glad you snuck back in @Avidkeo. Always welcome.
@username301good job getting your longest run ever done!
@polskagirl01 congrats on meeting your monthly and yearly goals! Well done!7 -

@polskagirl01 looks yummy!1

Awww thanks guys! This is why I keep coming back. My Internet running family! ❤️
Sunday morning, I've still got tomorrow off but work Tuesday, and am on call for Christmas and boxing day (we get an extra day holiday called boxing day. Don't ask why, I have no idea).
We have all the presents wrapped. Ham is bought. Will get a few last minute things on Tuesday but yay all ready!
I'm now gonna go for a short 2k run. Just to stretch the legs.8 -
Welcome back @avidkeo! We all need life breaks sometimes but we definitely missed you!
@polskagirl01 - wow those cookies look amazing! decorating in that much detail is time consuming but they did a great job, even once they were getting bored with it.
So yesterday I headed out for my 6 mile long run and less then a mile into it I fell for the first time in several years, tripping over an uneven sidewalk (I honestly don't run or walk on the sidewalks much for this very reason). I went flying and I suppose reacted to protect my left knee, twisted and came down on my hands and right knee, but also somehow hit with my left as it is bruised too. I tried to continue the run because I knew Hobbes needed it before being in his crate for the evening but I realized pretty quickly that 6 miles wasn't going to happen. We looped around the neighborhood a little bit, running as I felt I could and ended up with just a little over 2 miles.
I didn't have time to think much about it yesterday afterwards as I was in a rush once I got home to head off to LAX to see our daughter between her flights. Of course the traffic was worse even than it usually is and I was glad I left really early. We had a nice visit got her all checked in for her flight and had some dinner. They told her she should head up thru security around 8pm (her flight wasn't until almost midnight) because apparently it gets crazy after that as so many international flights are leaving late at night. I thought traffic would be better going home but the airport traffic was even worse and there were so many accidents on the freeways I finally gave up on the google rerouting and just sat there. That is also when I realized just how stiff I was and that areas I didn't realize before, were aching. I didn't get home until almost 11 and this is normally a 45 min drive from our house! 2 hours to get to the airport (most of that within the airport itself) and nearly 4 to get home. Honestly though it was worth every minute! 😊
This morning I feel like I was hit by a truck. The scrapes on my knee and hands are not so bad but boy am I achy and stiff. No run for me today but I had already planned it to be a rest/cleaning day.
I am hoping I can get out for a few miles tomorrow morning and may be running in the evening with my Oiselle group to see the Christmas lights along the canals in Naples (Long Beach, CA). The Christmas lights run may get canceled because a storm is moving in about the time we would be meeting up to run.

Welcome back @Avidkeo .
Those cookies look yummy and beautiful @polskagirl01 . They did a great job.
@shanaber So sorry that you are so beat up after your fall. Hope it works itself out soon. Glad you got to spend time with your daughter even if the trip there and back were horrendous.
@isalsayourface123 Hope you get too feeling better soon!
Race report for the Pioneer 5 Mile Race this morning. I wasn't sure I was going to make it to the race because I was having some tummy issues this morning. Fortunately, they were over before the race started.
The weather was near perfect for the start of the race: 46°F, cloudy, and no wind. I did get a little chilly standing around at the starting line. Those of us in the back couldn't hear any of the instructions from the race director. He didn't have a microphone and there was a barking dog and a some turkey's gobbling. They didn't like all of those people in their space.
The race took place at Davy Crockett's birthplace. So, in historic fashion, this gentleman started the race by firing a musket rifle.
There was a fairly steep hill at the beginning of the course with many rolling hills. It is upper East Tennessee after all. I really need to run more outside and practice on these hills, as the run seemed harder than I thought it should have been. Anyway, I did manage to run/walk my planned 4/1 minutes the entire way, except when I ran more at the end. I had hoped to manage around 11min miles, but my real goal was to finish in under an hour. I wound up with an 11:17/mile pace and finished in 56:26 minutes. So, I was pleased with that. Here are some pictures along the route.
I finished 5th out of 9 in my age group (60-64) and 111/144 overall. There was no bling, but I did get this nice sweatshirt.
There was an 89 year old lady who ran the race. She was so peppy and cheerful. I want to be her in 30 years!
All in all, it's a nice race. It was well organized, but bare bones. The roads were not closed, but there wasn't a whole lot of traffic, so it wasn't an issue. All of the goodies afterward were homemade. I liked the banana bread I had a lot. Anyway, the only thing I think they could have done better was have a microphone for the director.
My niece lives near the park, so I took my mom and dad over to visit with her and their great granddaughter while I ran. Then I got to visit for a little while too.

Ouch! I hurt just reading about your fall. Glad you got to visit with your daughter. I can’t imagine having to deal with that traffic.0 -
@quilteryoyo - how was your race today? Beautiful running weather today. My friend who tried to talk me into running ended up at Urgent Care with the flu. It’s really raging in our area.2

@quilteryoyo Well done!!!
Strange that the turkeys were gobbling and strutting this time of year. They must have been excited about the race as well.1 -
Great job on your race @quilteryoyo!

Yeah here too. Record-breaking. My son is just recovering from it now and we were all vaccinated.

Didn't think I'd be able to run the year so didn't consider it, however, I realised in late October that if I kept doing what I was doing, I'd make it. Got excited. Made it a goal. Then hurt my calf in late November (that Omaha Half was almost unbearable and a DNF) and, while it's improving, my kilometres have decreased. The only way I can reach 2019km is to run a smidge under 10k every day for the rest of the year. My calves start to hurt at about 7km. Poo.
Oh well, 2020km for 2020.

@quilteryoyo great race report! I liked the turkeys. Apparently they can be pretty territorial.
@ContraryMaryMary so close, but if stuff hurts, definitely wait and try for next year.1 -

Nah, take a day off, then run 50k the following day, and then a day off, and then 19k. Boom done in 4 days. EASY STUFF.5 -
@ContraryMaryMary That's tough when injury prevents you from reaching a goal you were so close to. You have the best plan though...listen to the body and try again next year.
Welcome @VanVanDiane . There are all levels of runners/walkers on this thread and they are all very supportive. Congratulations on finishing the C25K!2 -
Awww thanks guys! This is why I keep coming back. My Internet running family! ❤️
Sunday morning, I've still got tomorrow off but work Tuesday, and am on call for Christmas and boxing day (we get an extra day holiday called boxing day. Don't ask why, I have no idea).
I think there is a bit of an argument about how boxing day got started. But it started in the UK so inevitably it was a class thing. The gentry would give monies to the church for the poor/trades people and it was held in a box which would be opened on St stephens day.
In my parents day, my dad always said it was 'the man's day'. Christmas day was for family etc etc and the day after all the working men would go out and drink.
Nowadays, boxing day is a huge sport and shopping day.2 -
Meant to be a 5k shake the legs, chill run. I didnt want to do 2 laps of my normal route so I go down different roads trying to make up the difference.
At 3k I am going too fast and might PB but just go with it. Then at 3.5k I am running out of road so I divert to the local park, which is a mud bath, I end up walking the last 500m because I am slipping all over the place and basically running on the spot due to lack of grip.
Now some calories earned am off to see family and get drunk.

I am finally caught up in the thread after being MIA the past couple of weeks. Glad to read accomplishments and races. Welcome to the new people! This is a great encouraging group of runners at many different levels. Hugs to those fighting injuries. Being in the sidelines is tough.
Hamstring injury update - I took a few steps back after realizing I was doing too much too soon which resulted in more pain and lack of progress. I also decided to stop eating at a deficit while recovering after realizing that my body needs maintenance calories and extra protein while I work to rebuild the muscle. This strategy seems to be working as I am seeing daily improvement in strength. I won’t be running again until my strength goals reach specific markers. Having clarity about this is helping keep me from feeling discouraged because I can see the progress being made toward those goals. (Until I can do single legs glute bridges without pain - no running). My pain level has decreased significantly since I implemented my more sensible plan. I’m currently not attempting the single leg bridges because I haven’t met all my strength goals for prone hamstring curls and other exercises. But progress is being made. Today is the day I add resistance to the prone hamstring curls now that I’ve met the repetition goal without weights.11
