After a rough start, the week ended pretty well. I felt so much better today, and the weather was fabulous. It got up to almost 50 degrees and the sun on the snow was just beautiful. I went for a trail run with some friends this morning and invited along a friend who had never run in the snow before. The trails were nice, but really soft in some spots which made it quite a workout.
Then I went rock climbing for a while, and finally came home and took the dog out for a nice long walk. She certainly enjoyed the warmer weather and now we are both happily tired.

We did five Sunday afternoon.
4 were planned but ran out of hours Saturday for 2 miles.
Maybe more details tomorrowThank you @quilteryoyo for the nag9 -
i waited a bit. ended up with a fourth foster.
there are five other applicants for the yorkie so hopefully someone who's had experience with his disorder will be willing to adopt him. max needs to lose weight so he'll be coming on the shorter runs. sweet baby whose owner died.
the run itself was nice. i tried a new part of the rails to trail. i could not believe the amount of dog poo ON the trail. the other one i run has some here and there but maybe because there are more trash cans. Speed Demon want to go fast. we've only been doing 2 miles to build back the fitness so little did she know five was planned. i thought about six since i had missed 2 on saturday and 4 were on the calendar. i could tell she was getting a little tired so we did five. the first miles were lying and told me i couldn't do it. speed demon was all for those miles. it wasn't hard hard. i thought i had shin splints but later saw i must have banged my shin at some point this weekend. my peroneal tendons are not thrilled. it as 40ish and not too dry so the weather was comfy. there wasn't much wind. the closer i got to lake michigan the windier it was (about 7 miles away). i had gone west and turned back east so when i was feeling hot and tired the wind was nice. as i was leaving, i saw someone approachable and asked him what the trail was like in the dark and he said it was pretty safe and hadn't seen too many questionable goings on. so maybe i'll do that. better than sidewalk running.
i had to trick speed demon into the car but as we pulled up to the trail, i could barely keep her from going thru the window. she much prefers noncity running.

@AlphaHowls WOW! That's a lot of miles! Great job
@mbaker566 nice pictures, looks like a fun place to run.
I did a track workout this morning, 6x800 meters at the dirt track. School track looked too crowded, plus soccer practice going on. The dirt track is shorter (about 350m) so I jogged until the watch says .2 km, then hit the lap button and go fast until it beeps for the next km and then repeat. But I had my watch on the wrong screen and thought I was slow. Figured out halfway through, that I was actually looking at overall average pace (including walk/jog recovery breaks) instead of the current pace. I decided to leave the watch on that view and run fast by feel. It turned out faster that way8 -

100.37/100 miles completed
I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but I had a great run. I ran 13.32 miles. That was my longest run to date and only the 4th time I have run the HM distance. I was really proud of myself. I wasn't really planning on running that far, but it was such a nice day and I was not in a rush to get back home so I decided to just go for it. I usually have my long runs on Sunday at 10-11 miles so I feel like I am pretty much always in HM shape, but I have only run two HM races and had only run the distance one other time. Overall the run was great and I ran it about 9 minutes faster than the last time I ran that distance. I wasn't even trying to go fast. I was really proud of myself afterwards too. I really needed a good long run. I've been pretty stressed about the holidays and kind of depressed since this is the first Christmas that I won't have both of my kids home since my son is in Japan. I am excited about my daughter coming in, but it will still be different. Plus we have started having some plumbing issues in our guest bathroom just in time for the holiday. But it was nice to just put all the stress to the side for a while and just run. It was a pretty day for it too. It was pretty cold when I got up but it warmed up nicely so I was a little over dressed for the second half of the run, but since I had on layers it was easy to deal with and not too bad. That is one of the hard things with long runs. Often the temperature at the beginning and end of the run are quite different. I didn't see any good wildlife on my run. Just a couple of pretty cardinals and then a huge ugly vulture eating a dead cat. I could have done without seeing that. 😢🤢 But the morning that started out foggy and frosty turned to a sunny blue sky and it was really nice to just be out there. Then when I got home my husband cooked us a couple of awesome ribeyes.
Yesterday's run got me to my goal of 100 miles for the month. It also put me at 1265 miles for the year which is over 2019 Km so I have officially run the year in Kilometers. 😊

@mbaker566 - love all the puppies! I hope they all find wonderful homes! Also I would prefer that trail to city running too! People not cleaning up dog poop is one of my pet peeves. We have 'poop' stations on our trail and the city provides poop bags and people will leave it no more than 5 steps from the station. How difficult is it to walk over get a bag and then throw it away! I think people believe it is biodegradable, after all wild animals go along the trail. But it isn't with all the preservatives added to the dog foods. The trail I run is also right along the river and ponds that feed our aquifer and primary water source. Yes the water is cleaned before it ever gets to my tap but still.
@AlphaHowls - you are just AMAZING!! Congratulations on your newest milestones!
I went out yesterday morning for a little run with the pup to get some energy out. I knew I might or might not be running that evening so wanted to get something in just in case. I had a holiday lights run on the schedule with a group of women but it was supposed to be pouring rain. The predictions were all over the place from heavy rain starting at 4pm to holding off until after 11pm. As it ended up there was no rain at all and I probably shouldn't have run the 4.8 miles in the morning. I had fortunately invited a friend to run with me as I knew the other ladies were way too fast for me to keep up with. After the 1st mile we had completely lost sight of them so went our own way. We did pass them at one point going different directions but never saw them again. We were supposed to all go out to eat afterwards but I suspect they were finished long before we were. Where we ran to is an island with canals lined with huge, expensive homes and lots of boats. The decorations are amazing and there were lots of people out walking. We did hit some really crowded areas where we had to walk and stopped to take pictures then ran down some canal areas with pretty lights that weren't nearly as crowded. All in all a bit over 4 miles for this run too. Going back to the car (about a mile from the island and canals) we walked quite a bit as my knee was letting me know it wasn't happy with this 2nd run. Lots of pictures below but they don't really do it justice.

@shanaber huge pet peeve. people like that are the reason dog get banned from trails
1) does anyone run rails to trails? do they run them in the evening? or early morning? ie: without daylight? have you met with any local resistance (thinking ranger/cop more so than local transients)? many of them are county trails, some state. but i can't find any info about when they close or open. local parks have varying hours. when i asked my local groups they all told me to run 40min away. no...that's not what i asked. especially when i am only running 2 or 3 miles. grrrrrrr
2) any one do one of the lean horse 100 or a run on the mickelson trail in the dakotas? i kinda like the idea of an ultra on a rails to trail path. less roots. and less technical. might be good.0 -

Happy Holidays to all who celebrate and Happy Winter to those who don’t.
I’ve been keeping up with my running routine, so far in Dec I have 102.8 miles, so goal met with a few days left...I think I’m very close to at least 2019 in km...have to check the numbers..
Everyone is doing so great. Hugs to those with injuries and other struggles. I totally can understand.
To those others with PR,s and races and those just getting out there and doing it, kudos to all.
I really do get inspired by each and every one of you, and am grateful I found this group!4 -
