You give me hope, as I sit here in size 20's that I'll see a 12.
(Though I'm good with whatever will fit me when I get down to the weight I need to be. I tend to carry junk in the trunk and might have to size up to allow for that.)

I would love to join this group!
Actually just made a poster of my goals for 2020 on the weekend.
GOALS:
>cycle 500kms
>walk/run 1500kms
>complete 5 running events
>20 push ups every day
>read a novel
>go camping 3 times
>assist on both of my kids class excursions
Current status:
I was 115kgs. I lost a lot and dropped to 76kgs but after 2 years I was back up to 97.5kgs.
Weight as of January 1 was 97.5kgs.
January 6th 95.3kgs.
Logging my food and exercise in myfitnesspal is already helping.
Hoping to support each other

So many posts to read! I can't respond to everyone, but for every new person who posted, welcome! I'm glad you found us. Looking forward to learning more about you and following your journey.
@Terytha, I'm sorry to hear that your numbers went up after losing so much weight. If you MD does give you a hard time, then I think you need a new doc! You are doing everything you can to control those numbers through diet and exercise. If that's not working, then he needs to do a better job of helping you manage it. This isn't your failure, it's his.
@brownsugar174 - Look at you! The jeans look great! Congratulations.
@theleadmare - ((((Hugs)))) As Tom Petty said, "The waiting is the hardest part". I hope you get good news.
@Aerohead21 - also ((((Hugs))))
@fleetwitch - I'm so happy for you. I can feel your excitement and it excites me too. Take a bow for finding a way a fun way to add exercise.
@DaniMerc72 - one day isn't going to undo a week's worth of great effort. Yes, it might seem that way temporarily, but that's cause carbs make you retain water, again, temporarily. Family Dinners and other social engagements are important and I bet you had a great time. It's okay if you indulge once in a while. Eventually you'll find a way to work it into your plan and it will be less of an indulgence. It's my belief that there's no such thing as bad food, just bad logging. Keep up the great work.
@HildyHefe - I think my tendency to snack compulsively started when I quit smoking the first time. Yes, I eventually quit altogether, but it took me 4 tries. Come to think of it, I'm on my fourth serious try to at losing weight. Both are really hard. Doing them together - well I'm impressed. I'm sorry you are struggling. Let us know how we can help. I think there's a lot of collective wisdom here. And together, we must have lost an actual ton (2000 pounds) if we were to add up our collective losses.
@KymberBurns - of all the great goals you list, my favorite is "Love myself more". One we all should adopt. I'm always saying that accurate logging is the single most important thing one can do to lose weight, but I think you are on to something. Maybe loving yourself at every size is really the single most important thing one can do.8 -

I've finally made it into the 200s! I'm at 99.6 pounds down in total, so close to 100! I'm glad to be back on track after Christmas; November and December were very slow weight loss months, so I'm just focusing on re-dedicating myself to my goals. I've been working on a vision board for 2020, and obviously my health is a major part on there! I'm trying to set my monthly goals a little lower/more realistically, because the weight isn't going to just fall off like it did at the beginning. It's a hard pill to swallow! I don't want to work even harder, lmao.
I still haven't been posting here as much as I did before the holidays, but I pop in every day to read how everyone is doing! It's been a real mental struggle to fall short of goals I knew I was absolutely capable of achieving. I've gotten through it now, and am happy with what I've accomplished, but it took a long chunk of introversion to get there, haha. But I'm really looking forward to the rest of the year of these threads!14 -
@stefsc1 You are doing great! Congratulations on breaking the 200 barrier! The mental struggle is real and the way you explained sounds very realistic with healthy expectations. Here's to the new year!!8

Good morning! Well, its morning where I live. It's time for my Jan update, I'm weighing in on Wednesdays this month.

I've had a good week, showing a couple pound loss since New Year's Day. I've also met all of my other health goals so far:
Other January health goals:
1. Less Alcohol (limit nights where I enjoy wine or a cocktail to 1x/week)
2. Exercise 5 days a week and diversify my exercise a bit (add in swimming and spinning)
3. Log Food every day!
I have not had ANY alcohol, I exercised 5 days last week, and I've logged my food everyday.
This week will be a lot busier and it will be a struggle to keep up with the exercise. Also, traveling for work means I will be out of my routine and probably be tempted by convenience foods. I just need to keep up the good work I'm doing and I know I can do it.
Going back to read other posts now!7 -
Good morning friends! It's a cold day here in Delaware, and it was SO hard to get out of bed this morning! I went to the gym last night and between the post-workout ache in my legs, and the warm coziness of my blankets, I had to summon all my strength just to get up! Hope you all have an amazing day!
I also wanted to say that I am not the best at keeping up with comment threads, and sometimes I don't respond to things, but please know that I love this little group and I'm happy to have the motivation and support! I am proud of us all for making ourselves a priority and working toward better health in 2020.9 -
Hi everyone, weigh-in Wednesday.

Non-scale goals for January:- Cardio 4 times a week (3 of 4)
- Strength 2 times a week (1 of 2)
- Water at 96 oz (still about 80)
- Intermittent fasting 16/8 cycle (more like 14/10)
- Explore meditation apps (on the to-do list)
I'm happy with the small loss, after being on break and having more trouble than I thought I would getting back into my routine at the beginning of this week. My office was closed over the holidays and we had my stepkids home until Monday, and I lost my structure. I was excited to get back to my routine but after having been lax on intermittent fasting and eating treats I was much hungrier than I was used to and caved to treats both at the office and at home.
I have had this pattern before - I am doing well and lose focus when the big kids come home. Our 6 year-old only eats chicken nuggets and quesadillas and my husband eats what I cook, so it's a much leaner, more controlled spread when they are not here. When they come I feel the need to make regular meals the big kids will like (plus lots more family activities and outings going on). In my mind they were only here for a few weeks so I thought it would be fine (and is perfectly fine, weight-wise). But I do need to make a mental adjustment to get back in the game that I didn't think I would need to make. I know several of your have referenced books on this thread and I plan to study up and learn more about how to adjust to a permanently healthy lifestyle because I really want to make this stick.
On the plus side, I got a used spinning bike which is now operational in our attic, so I got a few workouts in. The attic has a sloped roof and it is not quite as comfortable to use the bike as I thought it would be!! But I can get the job done and got a workout in after schools closed early for so called "snow," which helped with the peppermint chocolate pretzel bender I had been on earlier in the afternoon.
Wishing everyone a great week!9 -
Today we go in and take “before” photos for the kickboxing class. I’m a little nervous because they ask that you wear a sports bra and shorts, just so at the end of the 10 weeks you can really see a difference, but that’s definitely out of my comfort zone. I actually don’t even own a pair of shorts. I think I’m going to just use a pair of swimsuit bottoms and call it good, I do want to start to feel more comfortable in the body I have, but I’m just nervous.
@KymberBurns, loving yourself is also my overall goal of 2020, even if I get to my supposed goal weight, if I don’t love myself, what’s the point? My body does not equate to my self-worth, only I decide that.
Happy Wednesday to everyone! It’s cold in the Midwest today, I’m hoping to hit the gym later and start mentally preparing for the classes to begin Saturday. It’s hard to reply to everyone individually, but I’ve read through everyone’s posts, it’s so exciting to read and see the motivation and support.8 -
@brownsugar174 - YOU. LOOK. AMAZING. Love the new jeans and I would love to meet you when you come to DC for your daughter's graduation!!
@Terytha I think your doctor will be thrilled with your weight loss and exercise and hopefully have helpful suggestions to bring down your cholesterol. Some people are naturally high on that number but YOU have not failed.
@theleadmare glad you are having your thyroid checked and and sending hugs.
@Aerohead21 also sending you hugs. You are making great progress and it is hard to do everything at once, so give yourself credit for where you are succeeding and take baby steps.
@stefsc1 congrats on making it into the 200s and almost closing in on 100 lost!!! That is fantastic and I am so happy for you. This is a physical and mental process and I think big milestones can be daunting as well as exciting.
Hopefully I will have time to respond to other posts later but I have read them all and am so proud of everyone here for taking control of their health!7 -
Thanks everyone for the kind words. The problem with my doctor's "help" is that it's only drugs, and I'd actually rather die than go through that again. Seriously. I lost my entire life on them anyway, since they made me so sick and in pain I couldn't even lift my arms to brush my own hair.
I have a specialist too but his "help" was to tell me not to eat anything white.
I know I'm doing good but I was so hoping to rub my blood test results right in both of their arrogant, ignorant faces.9 -
@torihudson6 I’d be nervous too, but I think you are really going to appreciate that photographic evidence of how strong you are going to become! Good luck!4
-
@Terytha I think it's perhaps time to look around for a new doctor? That doesn't sound like the kind of "help" that is needed. I know that can be more complicated than it sounds, depending on where you live. But you are doing so well- some encouragement would be good rather than disappointment.
@torihudson6 I'd be nervous, too. I'm not one for "before" pictures although I will probably regret not taking them. Actually, I hope I regret not taking them because that would mean I will have some success! Anyway, good job getting out of your comfort zone, with both the photos and the class.
@stefsc1 in my mind, you totally met your goal. That is a 100 lb loss with any reasonable margin of error!!!! Congratulations, and be proud!
@aliciap0116 we are the same weight today for our weigh in! Exactly. And, I totally get the getting out of the routine thing. It felt really hard for me to jump back into things after the holiday downtime. Work feels hard this week. And yeah, I know the struggles of making something that will work for my health and my family's. My kids are growing so fast and they are super tall and lean, and my husband has a physical job and is also lean, so I don't exactly want to feed them low-calorie food. They are all adventurous eaters, so I can cook whatever, but it's hard to find something that works for all of us. When my husband cooks he has a heavy hand with fats that I'm not fond of, but who is going to complain when someone else does the cooking?
Great losses, @Candyn617 and @AmethystEFC !

@terytha going out on a limb here because you didn't ask for advice. But, my husband has high cholesterol and I put us on a plant-based diet at home and his numbers came down dramatically and he also lost weight. He still needs a statin but at a much lower dose. There is an amazing book called How Not to Die by Michael Gregor that goes through illnesses chapter by chapter and has recommendations for addressing them with food rather than medicine. I have started to eat more meat to increase my protein as I lose weight but I think there is so much to be said for plant-based eating even if you are just making incremental rather than wholesale changes. I plan to return to it eventually.3

Thank you all so very much! @aliciap0116 thank you so much for suggesting this book.
@torihudson6 you are knock it out of the park! I can see you now Kicking Butt and Taking Names💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽!
@DaniMerc72 I was born and raised in Delaware (Seaford) and graduated from DelState!
@theleadmare You can do it! After having my thyroid removed and two surgeries for a full hysterectomy ai thought my body would never respond to working out but it does and yours will! I’m so so proud of you for making the choice to travel this road with us!6
