@Camaramandy648 How is your hand today?0 -
Happy belated birthday! @mbaker566! Does Speed Demon get to approve your dates? 😁
First, Happy belated birthday!
Second... when we had our puppy he got veto power on anyone that came in our circle. Like, seriously. Trusted him over most people without batting an eye.3 -
Morning all!
Work was so busy last night and the weather is hot and humid. I think the humidity has been close to 100%. Everything feels damp and sticky guh. Just driving home at 11pm I felt that sheen.
This morning I did a gentle 3.4k to bring me to 143k even. I'm tempted to do 7k tomorrow just to hit 150k for the month! May have to rethink Februarys goal already haha! See how I go tomorrow.
How is the fire situation down there? I have not heard it on the news up here in a long while.

SchweddyGirl wrote: »Like I said, come race day you will have the course flagged. Lane will say what side of you to keep the flags on, I think they usually have them on the left side. It is a very windy course and it is easy to get lost. But they should have course monitors and 8K race arrows at each trail shift to make sure you don't make wrong turns...unless you are Chris Rayder...some how that dude seems to get lost even with a bike escort lol.

So, I am way off my goal for the month. *sigh* I got home from work 2 1/2 hours later than normal yesterday. Everyone at work - prisoners and staff - were having issues yesterday. I didn’t think the day would ever end! Anyway, Chick fil a and the latest episode of Schitt’s Creek took precedence over last night’s run.
Despite it all, I feel confident about my marathon. I know I can complete it, so I am not going to stress my training plan being off. But, I do think I am also burning out on the training as well, since my free time is so limited. After this marathon, I think I am going to take a break from any races and just run as I feel I should (or not).9 -
Thanks @eleanorhawkins . I like Hal Higdon too.0

While running today, I tried to adjust my headphones (Treks Aftershoks aren't the best under a buff) and must've pressed something, because they started calling "last number dialed". Not wanting that, and not knowing who I had called last, I went into panic mode, trying to get glove off, phone out of zipper pocket and cancel the call. Fortunately it was just calling my husband, and not my boss or the father of one of my kids' friends. I'm guessing there's a way to stop it from the headphones but I haven't figured that out yet.
ETA: Just tried it, and all I had to do was press the same button again. No need to find the phone.3 -
Thank you all for the birthday wishes.
speed demon gets very skittish around new people so old girl is the judge. she approved. i've been dating him for 9 months so actually speed demon has warmed up to him. frankly, if old girl doesn't like you, you are a turd. cause she likes most people. She will judge you6 -
@noblsheep - so glad you and your family are well and not affected by the virus outbreak. Lots of folks here are freaking out too, especially on the college campuses and with social media.
Happy belated birthday! @mbaker566! Does Speed Demon get to approve your dates? 😁
I am not going to post much about the dogs. Having been bitten (twice) last fall, when out for a run, by the neighbor's Jack Russell I am a bit sensitive. I don't run by their house any longer, have completely changed my warm up route and find I am generally more hesitant around other 'small' dogs. The spot on my calf still bothers me at times and is a reminder to be cautious. Honestly I would probably kick the sh$t out of the dog if it came after me again. Hobbes the Vizsla is mostly ok with other dogs. I don't let him go running up to people or their dogs when on leash. He and others can be very protective on leash when they wouldn't be otherwise playing (in an appropriate place) off leash.
I am also very cautious at our 4-way stop where I have to cross to get to the trail. Many cyclists have been hit there and they installed huge stop signs, replacing the normal sized ones. People still go right through. I don't trust that anyone sees me or that they will stop even if they see me until they actually do. I have come too close to being hit too many times there. I have been known to yell at drivers; they are startled when they realize oops there was someone actually in the cross walk and they didn't even look. Once or twice I have actually banged on cars as they went by me. My daughter says I should keep a full poop bag with me and throw it at the cars but I don't want to have to carry it.
Procrastinated this morning and didn't get out for a run. Decided I needed to go out for a rare, for me, evening run. It was windy and cool and I have forgotten how pretty it can be out at sunset. The only issue were the swarms of gnats. Fortunately I didn't end up swallowing any or get any in my mouth (miracle!). I did have them stuck to my forehead and face though. Will finish up the month to goal on Friday. We are taking Hobbes the Vizsla up to the local mountains tomorrow to hike a little and play in the snow. Or at least check out the area to go back next week when more snow is due. Also it looks like the prediction of heat on Sunday for the HM has been replaced with foggy and cool! Yay! I hope it holds and doesn't end up in the 80's!

AGAIN it was cloudy, low 30s F, and no wind. Just slogged along at an easy pace. The snow and ice had melted off the trail, except for the wooden foot bridges and about a 30 meter stretch along the golf course.
And Happy Birthday, @mbaker566!!!!!
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders8 -
I like the Hidden plans as well. Used one or the other HM plan for pretty much all of mine and the others I tried I didn't feel prepared me as well.
@mbaker566 - Hobbes likes everyone as well. I know if he doesn't like someone we stay away. It is so interesting to me that they have that sense about them.
@marisap2010 - I have to say just running with no race planned is rather freeing and I am enjoying it maybe more than I thought I would. I do keep having to talk myself out of signing up for any of the myriad of races that hit my email inbox. I even told DH that I wanted to run (walk) Surf City again next year since it is the 25th anniversary.
Thanks @Tramboman. It is supposed to hit 80 here today and then close to 90 tomorrow and Saturday before dropping back into the low 60's on Sunday.4 -

110.26/100 miles completed for January
110.26/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders
I ran 5 miles this morning. It was cold and it was cloudy, but it wasn't too windy. I am so tired of cold, cloudy weather. I'm ready to start complaining about the heat. Even though it was cold and I am over winter, it was a pretty good run. It was really pretty uneventful until I got home and saw a skunk lurking around in my driveway. I just turned and ran about a half of block east until I saw him cross the road and go into someone else's driveway. Then I ran through my neighbor's front yard just to make sure I didn't get too close to the skunk. After I got in I realized that I should have taken a picture, but I didn't even think of it at the time. When I see a skunk I mostly just want to put as much distance between me and him as possible. My 5 miles today (actually 5.2 because of the skunk) puts me at 110.26 for January and that will wrap up the month for me.
@mbaker566 Happy belated birthday! I always love your dog pictures.
See you all over in the February thread!
