Machka- The only stairs I have are at my doctors office. That is 3 flights and my legs burn. I can only imagine as many as you are doing. My youngest daughter tries to take the stairs as much as possible at the hospital. Her lowest flight days have been in the low teens. Max flights so far is 26. I am impressed by you both!

Thanks!
If you build up to it, it's not too bad. And right now I'm going quite slowly ... later I'll start building up speed.
Going down the stairs gets my calves!! Today they aren't too bad so I'm getting through the DOMS.
I've got a long weekend now ... 3 days off ... and I won't climb stairs in that time which will give my legs a chance to rebuild and get stronger.
It burns quite a few calories, so in combination with the walking I've done, I've been trending downward in weight this week ... just a little bit but a little bit is better than nothing.

The funny thing about the train was that I was sitting directly behind the driver's cab so I could hear everything he was saying on the phone and all the thumps and bangs as he was trying to release the brakes. His announcements were rather calmer than he was feeling! I did my good deed for the day by helping an old lady who couldn't hear the announcements and couldn't understand why she had to get out of the train to catch the one behind. I managed to explain it to her! She thanked me profusely.
Hope to run after lunch.
We have three floors in this house and my bathroom is on the top floor. I regularly go up two flights. So in a day I normally climb maybe 12 flights or more. We have other toilets, but I like my own best.
I've just booked one of my favourite restaurants for my trip to London with my friend on the 20th. We are going to the Picasso exhibition at the RA, as I am now a member, and this restaurant, The Wolseley, is just opposite. It is an old car showroom and is all art deco in style. The food is fine, but the decor is magnificent. Joy!

Marianne- So glad you got good news at the doc!
Michele- I went and saw Menopause the Musical quite a few years ago; LOVED IT!
Heather- Wow! Quite the adventure on the train! Don't blame you for taking the taxi from the station. Would have worn me out!
Viv- Oooouch! Sorry about your fall! I know that feeling (of kind of catching yourself; but not really) and the feeling of being beaten the next day. Hope the aches go away soon!
Barbara- Another Joaquin and Miguel pic.
Karen VA- I remember when Olivia was born, as I was waiting anxiously for Joaquin to arrive. She has such a sweet face! Those eyes! Three years went by so fast!
Doing the Friday dance! Kids arriving soon. Hugs to all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

The interior of the Wolseley. Just adore those chandeliers.

VivUK- Ice on those bang ups may help. That falling feeling sucks! Hoping to see pictures when flooring done.
HeatherUK- I bet she was appreciative! Scary when you can't figure out what is going on and changing of routine. The Wolsely looks opulent! I think that is the right word. I have been using some big ones lately-hehe!

Kylia - strangely enough, because it's a brasserie, you can have something light and inexpensive there. I've been there for breakfast and a very light lunch and not spent a lot of money. I'm just a sucker for decor!

Heather ~ You are quite the adventurer! I could not imagine having the courage to catch trains and buses.
I am leaving the house for the first time in a week today to meet two old friends for lunch. I am still having fits of tears over my Pom! My DH and I have both dreamed about him.

That's how I've gotten around much of my life ... public transportation, cycling & walking.
I have had to drive at times, but I've also gone fairly lengthy periods of my life with no motor vehicle ... years!
When we go to Europe (including the UK) we don't bother renting a car because the trains are good enough for what we want. We've got our bicycles with us so we cycle a bit, maybe a day, maybe a few days in a row, then we hop on a train to take us wherever is next, then cycle a bit more, etc.
I've had my share of sprinting for the bicycle car and practically throwing the bicycles and bags and everything in before the train pulls out ... I fell out of a train in Switzerland that way when the train lurched and everything shifted on top of me and I slid down the stairs head first. The train guard on the platform gave me a shove so that the door would close and off we went! My husband and several passengers had to untangle me and get me upright again! I can laugh about it now!
We've also changed plans because the train stopped somewhere and wasn't going on because of an emergency further up the track ... hop out with the bicycles and start riding. Heather's stories bring back memories of train/bicycle travel there.
Now I usually end up driving at least one day on the weekend ... but all week, I take buses and walk to get places.
It's what you get used to.

Thanks for the hugs and advice from all. I took yesterday for myself, but didn’t stress eat. Worked on my laptop in front of the fireplace.
Although I realized we had all the ingredients to make s’mores, I just toasted one marshmallow. Perfect!6 -
Carol - Well I'm scared of cars!
Went for my run. Bright day, breezy and pretty cold. Lovely though. I trotted along fairly easily, in contrast to last time when my legs felt like lead. The difference a good night's sleep makes! Last time I was thinking I wouldn't be able to do this much longer and I was getting too old. Today I went at a good lick.
We stopped on the way home to pick up a couple of spinach and ricotta pies. Sold out! Two ladies who were eating there had taken the last ones. I told them off! They said they were sharing the last one! They bake trays and trays of the things every day and often sell out.
I love it when I've run, because I can eat. Pasta, fresh pesto, spinach, peas and king prawns tonight with arugula. Plus a glass or two of white wine. Proper Friday night.

On my run I thought it might be a good time to broach the idea of going by myself next year to Orkney for an archeological history holiday. DH went a bit quiet and I asked him how he felt about me being gone for a week. He said that, right now,he didn't feel too great about the idea because of his back, and he didn't know how he would feel next year! I think he would be tempted to come with me, even though it's not his thing, but it might conflict with his cricket. :grumble:
I then said, well, I'm going to do it sometime. My thoughts are, if not now, when? I'm not getting any younger and you have to be mobile for all the clambering. It's on the top of my bucket list.

I am so happy I found this group. I just turned 50 last week and I am no where I thought I would be at 50. I am going to log daily, and check in, drink water, and find an exercise I love.

"Todo"s and "done"Done: invest 10 mins VACUUMING dining room, finished and filed taxes.
Bonus:
ToDo: BB&B, Woof for gift card, BiMart for oil, pick up P.O. Box, recycling, invest 10 mins cleaning Master&Guest Bds, carry over 10 mins cleaning GuestBth and Living Room, schedule DEXA scan with CHN, Line Dance Shadow to Mini Pet Mart to shop for crate, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, bake bran muffins, call Pat, call Carolyn D. Next week get Shingrix vaccine. Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
Finished and filed taxes, hooray! Happy with my decision to have both fed and state taxes withheld from IRA distributions at higher rates (15% fed, 9% OR), results in a nice refund. Kind of like an automatic savings account. It bears no interest but keeps me from having to write out those hated checks to the IRS.
Celebrated with a half bottle of red wine, which led to the spicy cheese crunchies, which led to the chocolates… which led to the expected bump back up in weight this morning. Surprise!
Tina, my Joe used to ride motorcycles and split the lanes especially during commuter traffic. When he realized his reaction time was slowing, he sold them off and I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Karen in VA Thank you for sharing Olivia’s pics. Had no idea tomorrow was her 3rd bday. Thanks be! And Liliana is soo cute upside down, rightside up or even sideways.
Annie in DE tell us more about your planned dude ranch trip? Something I’d always wanted to do…
Samand hoping you can get relief from ulcer pain soon.
Katla when I want butter flavor but not real butter, avocado oil is my go-to. Good for high heat grilling and tastes good too!
Rebecca I can just see you bonking your chief with a scepter, wearing your tiara…. And a smile
Cathy so glad you’ve found dancing… and a partner. Would you share your Mediterranean marinated cheese recipe?
Welcome Jackiem1231 wish I could go and see Menopause the Musical with you and Michele.
Machka had I attempted even a tenth of your flights of stairs, my legs would not have laughed, they would have given me a juicy raspberry.
Allie please try Zicam to ward off any colds. Thinking of your trip.
Kylia did I read it right? Your Grandson is singing the national anthem at a basketball game? Solo or in a choir? You must be so proud!
Heather no guilt for taxis instead of waiting in the cold. You have to protect your (and your DH’s) health. Thank you for sharing those pics, Art Deco/Streamline Moderne are my favorite styles. Viv sorry for your bruises. Recycling bins can be very hungry, I fell completely into one once at work. Folk never let me forget…
KJ the joy on their faces, especialy Miguelito’s. Put a big smile on mine. Thanks!
Carol ((hugs)) Hope the dreams have brought some comfort.
Welcome Monte HB Calif. “log daily, and check in, drink water, and find an exercise I love.” Keys to success!
Will sock away half of that refund for this year’s unexpecteds, share a third of the remainder with Joe, and use the rest for my stuff (gifts, wish list items including a chair frame for my exercise ball, a key finder (Tile brand or other) and an older version Dyson Animal cordless stick VACUUM cleaner). Hoping the new toy, with its max 20 mins battery life, will make daily VACUUMING more play and less dreadful.
Lighter, lovelies!

I have two of my grands Saturday night. I am excited. I do have to take grandson north to sing the National anthem before a basketball game. Probably will have to go take care of the dogs. But I get to spend time with kiddos.

Kylia, this is seriously cool! How old is your grandson?
Karen in Virginia4 -
Viv Ouch! So sorry you fell.
Heather I would love to have lunch in that restaurant. The three story ceiling alone is breathtaking and uplifting!
Carol I think Machka's post where she says public transportation is how she has gotten around most of her life makes an important point. Most of us (except perhaps New Yorkers & Washingtonians) have NOT used public transportation most of our lives. If we had, it would not be intimidating. Give yourself more credit, sweet lady, you are more competent and courageous than you know.
Kelly That is THE MOST DARLING photo of Joaquin & Miguel. My heart is going pitterpatterpitterpatterpitterpatter.

Machka: The February 500 sounds like a huge challenge. Good luck.
Heather: Sorry to hear that your DH is having back trouble. :flowerforyou:
Viv: I’m sorry you tripped in the garage. Seems like landing in the recycling bin might have been lucky. Kylia ha a good idea about using ice to help reduce swelling and pain. I remember an old saying—"ice is nice but rest is best.” Seems like ice, elevation and rest are a great line up. Feel better soon.
Carol in GA: I am so sorry about the loss of your Pom. When we lost our previous dog to a bee sting we started looking for a puppy. It took about three months to find one. He is now an old boy, but is getting along okay with the help of a daily pain pill.
Barbara: I’ve never noticed avocado oil on the store shelves. I’ll look. :flowerforyou::
Yoga today! Yay!!!

Cathy in TX – my DH and I are planning a trip to Seattle in the spring also for our 30th anniversary, we’re looking at mid-May. My DS and his GF went a couple years ago and my sister goes out there for work sometimes. Both have said Pike’s Place Market and the Space Needle were things they enjoyed. DH also wants to take the Boeing tour (he may be on his own for that – I’m not really all that interested in it).
Katla – Chihuly Garden and Glass is something else my DS recommended. Sounds like something I would really enjoy.
Marianne – hooray for good news at the doc’s!
Skipped my workout last night. My body was still achy from shoveling snow on Wednesday. It was only 2” but it was the heavy, wet snow and my shoulders and back were still feeling it. I had planned to at least do some yoga last night to stretch things out, but got started on a jigsaw puzzle and before I knew it, it was time for bed. I’ll have to start setting an alarm or timer so the time doesn’t get away from me.

Did a Jari Love DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a yoga DVD here at the condo
Heather – what a trip! The Wolsely looks like a very majestic place. No wonder you like it so much
Viv UK – please take care of yourself
Welcome everyone new to a great group!
According to the scale at the Y, I had a very slight increase in weight. But I know that’s because I had a brownie last night. Honestly, if I don’t snack at night regardless of how many calories I have left for the day, I can be almost always guaranteed of a loss. Now just to do it!
I lost the case for my headphones. I think it probably fell out of my bag and with the high winds blew away. When we get home, I’ll see about getting a replacement.
Vince left for the bowling alley to sub. The guy is here right now to fix the a/c (it wasn’t cooling, he says the compressor isn’t getting the signal to cool.). When he leaves, I may go over and just bowl a few games myself.

JanetO - You may think the Boeing tour sounds dull, but I thought it was really interesting. Even if you are not the least bit interested in planes or aviation, it is still a very cool tour....just the sheer numbers they toss out and the size of the facility are impressive and worth hearing and seeing.

Thanks Ladies! My grandson is as almost 12 yrs old in the 6th grade. He is singing with his choir. Last year he sang with the choir at a Cincinnati reds game. He loves singing. He started percussion instruments in band this year. He is playing baseball for the first time this spring. Football starts in the summer! Crazy busy! My daughter and son in law will be in Cleveland for her company holiday party. Company pays hotel and all food and beverages. Mamaw gets to keep Camden (grandson) and his sister, Nevaeh (16 almost 17!😢) I promised a game of monopoly this weekend.

I meant to thank those that commented on my weight loss.
I believe Arlington has the distinction of being the largest city in the US with no mass transit system. We drive everywhere. The walkability score is very, very low.
Thanks for the Seattle recommendations. I love art glass so Chihuly will be a must see.
I am headed to the Fort Worth Stock Show this afternoon to look at the vendors booths.
I was successful last night in resisting the sweets. There were some amazing looking home made candies.
Barbara, the recipe is attached. It is by Kristie Huneycutt Sullivan. I sandwich the cream cheese between the cheddar and jack cheeses.

Barbara: I’ll see whether I can find avocado oil locally. I haven’t seen it on the shelves, but that is as likely because I wasn’t looking for it. I‘ll write it on my grocery list and see if anyone has it locally.
Janet O: The glass creations are displayed beautifully at the Chuhuly Garden. I think you’ll be glad if you go there. :flowerforyou:
I just finished knitting a new dishcloth. Some of my old ones are getting ratty enough to be put in with car washing bucket. I missed yoga today. I got into the knitting project and forgot to go.

I'm unsure of something regarding the reading of a crochet pattern. Is there someone who can tell me what something is meant? A tube video won't answer my question.
