Rebecca You are doing such a great job. I think Keto OMAD would work well for me, too, and I am looking into it, so thank you! I do have some thoughts about water consumption.
The truth about water intake is complicated:
It could be that your body is telling you that you have achieved optimal hydration & you can now adjust your water intake accordingly. It is as important to avoid over-hydration as it is to achieve adequate hydration. Aversion (feeling revulsed by the thought of drinking water) is a regulatory mechanism that helps maintain homeostasis (balance, in this case sodium balance). [Some people always feel aversion to water drinking - I'm not talking about that here.]
Everyone's body handles dietary water differently. I think you should listen to your body now that you have hydrated to the point that you are actually feeling revulsion at the thought of drinking more.<3

I agree ... hyponatremia is a dangerous result of drinking too much water without electrolytes.

Heather, how I would love to visit you in Hove. Have such fond memories of Brighton and curry. Bringing pecans. Now, to talk DH into doing without me while I travel abroad, ah, alas, there’s the rub. Will continue to enjoy Hove and cruising courtesy of YOU!
Karen in VA If you ever make it out to the left coast I’ll make you some! Love your insight about opportunities to be thoughtful, surprise with mid week call or gifts, and applying it to your partner. Will try to do likewise with my friends/acquaintances. A healthy way to say “Sorry, Mom, and Thanks!”
Machka and Lisa I am so with you about no Alexa. Shudder at the thought of corporate Big Brother listening in to our private lives.
SuziQ thanks for the pic, oww. 18.5 inches? WOW! Soup looks yummy, what are the greens, is that dill?
Michele Husbands! Vince would rather decorate for Christmas than swim/relax/enjoy the FL condo? SMH! Laughing out loud at the “should be get another cart” for the GS cookies cartoon. That is definitely Joe.
Kylia “I love him with all my heart. I like him most of the time.” Yes!
Tracey what a beautiful place! I wouldn’t have liked it as a teenager, but now it would be just right, except of course for the weather Wanted to share a pic from our front porch, but haven’t set up icloud on this laptop, locked my MSoft password, can’t get the security code as cell phone shows “No Service” since 3 pm this afternoon. Sheesh!
Rebecca con VERY grats on your carb limiting success!
Welcome Shana in Denver!
Amber that keto chicken casserole looks mouth watering. I thought that tropically themed trailer was cute, though I’d have chosen aqua for the trim color and Joe would have insisted on some pink flamingos. Your 80 year old aunt sounds like a bitter sad woman, so glad your Hubby and Dad have your back.
NYKaren pickled red onions? Would you share your recipe? My mouth is really watering now…
Machka Your comments about men friends resonated, I used to be that way, or think I was, until I really became "one of the boys" working in IT. Then I learned way more than I ever wanted to about the way men/boys think and act in a group. Yuck. Was reinforced when we had 6 other males living with us when we first moved to Idaho. Was never so lonely the many years I lived “alone” in a studio apartment, as I was living in that big house with those seven guys, including Joe. Painful memories of a painful time. Now I am happy to spend time with Joe one on one and, despite worrying about his lack of social contact, am somewhat relieved not to have to deal with males-in-a-group dynamics.
Kim you said it. Would not consider marrying someone with whom I was not friends, but perhaps not besties. Joe IS my friend, but not my BFF. We were acquaintance/friends for years before getting together. He would be who I called to help me bury the body. He does not like to go and do things, so thankful for my woman friends. Consider myself fortunate to have him, and them, and to have had my BFF for 30 years before she “went ahead.”
Viv hope your niece is back in her home safe and sound with no damage done.

Read through and caught up with posts last night and early this am. Was tired yesterday and I think the combination of different spices/ingredients from the soups I sampled didn't agree with digestive system the way they once did! Also, I ate some snickerdoodle and lemon bars-so more refined sugars than I am used to! However, one of the men at church loves baking cookies (he auctions off cookies for a month at the food pantry event, and someone paid $150.00 for those! He makes their choice each month). His snickerdoodle are my favorite. Another of the ladies makes the best lemon bars. I bought a couple of each and ate them all when I got home. That sugar fix is dealt with! The really good news is I heard we raised around $4000.00 for the food pantry this year.
Friends--have posted some about this. I do have some very good acquaintances at church an do talk to a couple of the ladies about things. Due to their lives (husbands, etc.) no real time to go do things. Husband preferred isolation, especially last few years so it was mainly just the two of us. Slowly rebuilding but realize I am at the stage of my life where I don't want to force things just to have relationships.
Potlucks/dinners etc.-haven't done a lot of going to people's houses last few years. Have potlucks for church activities several times a year. For lent we will be having carry-ins. We have joint Wednesday services with another congregation, alternating church each week. Since it is soon after work, I get easy things to take. I have found shrimp rings usually go over well-people like them but don't often bring them around here. I have a mandarin orange salad I make (with mixed greens, cranberries, pecans, get cheese) that people are expecting me to bring now. We don't bring much in the way of hostess gifts-helping with cleanup works very well!
Sorry to hear of the bad weather in UK. Glad it seems all made it through.
Should be another busy week this week. Needed to reschedule hair cut due to a meeting at work. Instead of end of day, I rescheduled it for 9 am Wednesday-will just take a couple of hours of vacation at the start of the day if needed. Since I am overtime exempt, I can work different hours.
Off to start the week. Didn't do anything for work this weekend except approve payroll. Despite feeling a bit under weather yesterday, got several smaller house things done (bills, laundry, cleanup).
Have a good start to the week,

Home made sweet and spicy pecans might be my go-to. Paleo and keto friendly, gluten free.
I like this idea ... as long as the person was OK with tree nuts.
I have a mild tree nut allergy but do love pecans! And I don't react as badly to them as I do to cashews or even almonds.
It is actually really hard to know what to bring if someone were to invite us to dinner!
Do they drink alcohol? No? OK then, no wine or other alcohol.
Yes? What kind? Some people are very particular about what they drink.
Peanuts? No ... that's not a good choice unless you're sure the person doesn't have an allergy.
Tree nuts? Maybe ... but again, good to check on allergies.
Fruit? What if the person is restricting sugar and including fruit in that?
Bread? Oops ... gluten.
Anything remotely dairy? Lactose intolerance.
Something sweet? What if they're diabetic?
Tea? That's something else people are particular about.
Coffee? Some people don't drink it.
Something with meat? What if they're vegan?
I think I would go with the box of chocolate or something which they could easily re-gift or bring to work or something.
But send me those pecans!

@ginnytez - what a wonderful idea to have auction for food pantry. That was a great fundraiser!
Busy week ahead.will try to keep eye on foods. Husband was funny last night. I made buffalo burgers. His was traditional ....on a bun with American cheese. He got tator tots. I left mine plain on plate, sauteed spinach in olive oil, and beets. He asked why I had red and green stuff and he didn't? I told him if he really wanted spinach I would make him some. He said ummm no thank you. Also offered beets, but he didn't partake. Lol! Mine was a pretty plate.
Stay safe with all this crazy weather!
Make the best choices you can at the moment!
Remember you are strong and beautiful ladies!

Katla - *I* would give away the cookies, but I can assure you that Vince won’t….lol
Going to try the Next Level class. I do wish it was earlier tho. The plan for tomorrow is to take the Power Hour class.
Rebecca – I thought of another advantage to drinking all that water. You sure get your steps in going to the bathroom!!! Plus, (like me) you name the store – I can tell you where the bathroom is!!!
I think there must have been a launch last night because I swear as I was laying in bed I heard a rocket go off and get quieter and quieter
After exercise the plan is to go to Aldi for a few things then the lady who came yesterday has a crochet group which she is going to start up again so I’ll go. I was hoping to go to the movies tonight to see “It’s a Beautiful Day” (only $5) and I may ask her if she would like to go with me.
Barbara – I think (and this is just a thought) that one of the reasons Vince likes to decorate so much is that he remembers decorating with his mother, who did a lot of decorating. So many times he talks about how his mother had this and she had that and I can see a certain look on his face, almost like he wishes he could go back to that time.
The other night Vince wasn’t feeling well…his stomach was bothering him. Every time he had an upset stomach, Vince’s father would attribute it to “something he ate”. Like he would sneeze a lot, and that was an allergy to wheat (or so he said). Now Vince is the same way. Yesterday he was telling me that he wasn’t feeling well. I told him that he’d eaten everything he had the night before. He’s had the corn and shrimp gumbo. Now it’s “yea, but I didn’t have shrimp from that batch”. To me, this is getting a bit out of control. Everything is something he ate, not the fact that he eats only certain things <like only corn and carrots for veges>.
I swear, with all of those cookies Vince bought, I’m going to take more of the chocolate chip cookies I made up to my cousin. I do have the ingredients to make more cookies if I need to, but somehow I don’t think I will

Posted by a Lyndal Yelavich yesterday on FB ... that pretty much sums up summer in Australia.
https://www.dorotheamackellar.com.au/archive/mycountry.htm
My Country
The love of field and coppice
Of green and shaded lanes,
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins.
Strong love of grey-blue distance,
Brown streams and soft, dim skies
I know, but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!
The stark white ring-barked forests,
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon,
Green tangle of the brushes
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops,
And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When, sick at heart, around us
We see the cattle die
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine
She pays us back threefold.
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze ...
An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand
though Earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.

Yes, if you hadn't guessed, after months of raging bushfires, mainly along the east coast of mainland Australia, most or perhaps all are out because there have been torrential, flooding rains for the last few days to the point of closed roads, power lost and evacuations. It happens like that here.

Hello All! Just popping by! I've missed you all! I'm working full time again. I was blessed to fall into a position doing what I love with a twist, with a wonderful manager, and outstanding team mates.
I've managed to get back on the wagon with weight loss and healthy eating. DH and I are doing a low carb diet now. We are laughing through our adjustments of no breads, potatoes, pasta, and of course desserts although we have decided to treat ourselves to one dessert on Sundays. Next on the list is reviving my exercise routine - it has kinda fallen by the wayside although DH goes religiously 5 times a week. I'll just have to see!

Food for thought ( ) if you don't know your host or hostess well enough to bring something they will enjoy.

It's Monday ladies! Valentine's Day coming up this Friday!
Cathy from Arlington TX - great to see you back on here, what fun to have a gentleman friend to attend dances with. I remember a while back you showed a photo of a keto birthday cake for your mom.
Teri and Heather and Viv - that storm is something else! I also read this morning that a spot in California set a new record - 209 mph for high winds. I still get an unsettling feeling when high winds hit here in the Pacific Northwest, having been through some major storms with trees down over roads, no electricity for days, roofs blown off, etc. Hope no major damage for your homes.
Loved seeing the photos of all the kids! Kelly's charges, Olivia, Athena, JR, Bea -- too many to mention.
Drinking water - I used to beat myself up when I was on WW and simply couldn't chug all of the water they suggested in addition to coffee, tea, etc. which was 8 glasses as I recall. Endless running to the restroom, lol. I think they have since changed their tune and include other beverages in the overall total.
OK ladies, make it a great week!

Pickled red onions: really tons of recipes out there for this, I tend to tweak any recipe I find, but here's the one I used yesterday, tasty!
1 large red onion sliced thinly, blanch in boiling water for around 30 seconds, should wilt but not lose their color
3/4 cup of your nicest clear vinegar (not distilled white vinegar, too sharp) I used champagne white vinegar
1 tsp sugar (i use a bit more to taste)
1 tsp kosher salt (I use a bit more to taste)
1 clove of garlic smashed but left pretty whole
a few pepper corns or a dried chili to taste
Dissolve the sugar, salt in the vinegar and add the garlic and peppercorns/chili. Drain the onions and place in the vinegar solution, make sure it is completely covered by the vinegar, store in a glass jar, will keep for weeks, but ready to eat after about an hour!. Quite tasty with fatty foods like pulled pork or on top of tacos.
I just scored a 2-drawer metal filing cabinet that work was gonna throw away, score! I love free-repurposed things, DH has outgrown his filing cabinet and I told him not to buy a new one--but to start shredding, this is a decent compromise.
NYKAREN5 -
NYKAREN Yummo! I am going to try that pickled red onion recipe. Delish!1
-
NYKAREN I love repurposed things too. My biggest score from work was a commercial paper shredder. My work got crosscut shredders so this beast was up for grabs. It sat there for a few days, so I went around and asked everyone if they would like to have it. No takers (too big). So it came home with me and sits in my garage and it's WONDERFUL. After I get the mail, I separate it in the garage, shred & recycle as needed, and bring the rest into the house to be dealt with. Dealing with the piles of mail still isn't perfect, but it's better than it used to be!6

The fence on the neighbour's side is leaning over since the storm. It's her responsibility. We will mention it nicely, but I would think the fencing companies are having a field day! She isn't well off either.
We went out shopping in a high wind. My trolley was blown along like a ship in full sail. For the first time I took a container to the healthy deli to buy french lentils loose. I have used their dispensers before, but always used their paper bags. I had to ask how to do it, but now I know. Feel very virtuous. I was watching a Spanish language Utube video this morning about plastic which inspired me.
We have offered to have Edie for a 1 to 1 at the weekend, early lunch, then 3-4 hours with her. My son said yes, but he didn't specify which day. I think he means Sunday. She loves doing 'projects' so it's fun. We might get to do a bit more to her decoupage rabbit I bought her for Christmas.
I did 500 words of my memoir this morning. Writing about a camping holiday when I was 13. St Tropez. My mother was very adventurous and loved organizing her holidays. You can see where I got it from!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx5
