Heather: My doctor suggested a daily glass of red wine. I had one yesterday. I don’t plan to have one on a daily basis. Too easy to over do it.
Karen in VA: The only postpartum misery I remember was extremely sore breasts from mastitis. I managed that with help from the ob-gyn. My mom knew nothing about breast feeding, but she came and stayed with us and took care of our son when DH & I both came down with a nasty flu. When we were well enough she went home and came down with the same nasty flu. Ah, the good old days. . ..
Pip: We have a wool rug with a similar design as the one your sweet pup is resting on.
A plumber came to install our new faucets in the kitchen. His price quote was exorbitant, so DH sent him away. He plans to do it himself. He has the skill but I worry about his strength and agility. I plan to give him the help I can. If we need to hire someone, we will. Plumbers are more expensive than I ever imagined. :noway: I have a city meeting this evening. I’ve read all the materials and will review them again before I go.

Running behind again. Took a break from the computer over the weekend and haven't had time to catch up - I'll do it later.
I start my new position at work on Monday . It's a little different than we originally talked about but it will still be a good thing, I think. I'm a little nervous as it involves some things I've never done before, so I'm going into it on a trial basis. If I decide I like it and want to do it then we'll make it permanent. If not, I can go back to my current job. But right now, I need to get caught up on my current job. I'll be doing both for a while (or at least parts of my current job along with learning the new one), so it's going to be a busy time.
I'll check back in later.

"Todo"s and "done"Done: BB&B, recycling x 2
Bonus: one load laundry
ToDo: invest 10 mins cleaning Living Room, carry over 10 mins cleaning Master Bth, GuestBth, call Pat, Line Dance, schedule DEXA scan with CHN, Tomorrow: dog group, get M$oft login fixed, install iCloud for Win 10, Shadow to Mini Pet Mart to shop for crate, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, bake bran muffins, call Carolyn D. Next week get Shingrix vaccine. Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
“No Service” rantAround 3:45 Sunday noticed “No Service” on cell phone, Powered off, waited, powered back on, nada. Monday morning noticed still “No Service.” Driving in to BB&B, 2 bars at campus. Drove in to Freddie’s 5 bars, 3G. Called Customer Service, auto attendant transferred me to limbo where I waited for 7 minutes before hanging up. Tried again, got call back option, left number, returned deposit bottles while waiting. 15 mins later got call back. When rep heard I wanted to report an outage, she said she’d transfer me to someone who could help. Transfer disconnected. Redialed and left another call back number. Drove to recycling center, recycled, drove to group of cell towers, parked and waited 30 mins total for call back. Begged rep not to transfer me til she’d heard my story. She listened, and texted with her tech expert giving me things to try: power off / on tried that nope. Call your electric company? What/why? Power is not off, just cell phone service. I explained that in our remote rural area, carrier had 3rd party agreements with TMobile and ATT, and that those agreements didn’t offer all services to all customers, for example, my husband has never been able to access his flip phone’s voicemail from our house, but would have to drive up the hill to the main road. Perhaps too much primary traffic was pushing secondary users off? Told her that response was unacceptable and to push back asking for additional options. Finally her “expert” told her to tell me that “There are no outages in your area.” I’m thinking “Really. You think I’m hallucinating? The 60s weren’t THAT good to me.” Frankly expressed my frustration at wasting two hours in town. Cautioned that when I got home, if still “No Service” I was going to go online and be snotty. Consumer Cellular used to be known for its excellent customer service, but really missed the mark this time. Home, still “No Service” double checked Joe’s flip phone same. Logged into Facebook, started a “chat” with Consumer Cellular’s FB page, no response, went to bed. Service restored around 8:45 pm. Meanwhile was trying to install iCloud for Windows 10 on my new laptop and somehow locked my M$oft login. Part of the security verification is to send a code to your phone. code finally showed up last night, well after its 10 mins expiration time. Tried again this morning… “Usage limit exceeded, try again tomorrow.” Yeah right, IF we have cell service.Somewhat ashamed of myself, this rage serves no useful purpose, only makes others feel bad and me sick. Perhaps refraining from anger/turning from wrath should be my Lenten fast.
Ginny “helping with cleanup works very well!” true for potlucks, but I’ve been in homes where the hostess would have a conniption if anyone tried to help with washing up her fine china and crystal. Needless to say I am NOT that woman  Would you remind me what kind of work it is that you do? Exploring buildings you are going to remodel/repurpose sounds so very interesting.
Machka true that about tree nuts, especially walnuts. Something re-giftable=brilliant! “Know your brushfire plan” made me laugh out loud, serious message, hilarious setting. Jammed/bruised arm can be even more debilitating than an easily set break. Hope ice and rest help soon.
Suzi!Q Stay well!
Michele insightful thoughts about Vince’s decorating.
NYKaren many thanks! All things I have on hand, and might even try dividing and using half for red onions and half for Cremini mushrooms. Mouth watering.
Heather “spend all my time giving dinner parties…” of course not. You spend all your time exercising, running, burning those bonus calories! Replacing kitchen laminate, refinishing downstairs floors, is that something that could be done while you and DH cruise? I’d love to remodel our kitchen, bathrooms and replace all the flooring, but alas, not just lack of funds, but the idea of putting Joe through the noise, mess and stress… never going to happen.
Welcome April in Scotland (there’s a song in there somewhere). When motivation fails, try stragey. Find some activity you like doing, identify the healthy foods you like, and remember: baby steps.
Allie whyever can you not help each other learn the new insurance program? Sounds like your DDS wants you all to fail spectacularly. Have you clearly let Dan know that he is neither staying at your place nor using your car while you are in Peru? IMHO it’s only fair to give him advance warning. Then stick to your guns!
Tina in CA Hope you love Viva Las Vegas. I’ve heard there are four days of dancing workshops in Vegas around Thanksgiving, and I’ve always wanted to go…
Sue in WA feel your water heater pain. Ours leaked all over the laundry/kitchen a few months ago. We were lucky enough that our neighbor is a water guy and came right over. He sold us a water heater at his cost, and while I would have preferred a tankless (for space) was so grateful I couldn’t quibble. Now our laundry room floor is bubbled up and I know there is mold growing beneath. No hyacinths here but bunches of purple crocus. Only downside to 3 sunny days in a row is that all the little flying things have hatched and are swarming. Mixed blessings.
Luci playing with your grands will be a great calorie burner
Tracey  Count me in on the Goldfish crackers club.
Kylia hoping your MD and Rheumatologist come up with an effective plan quickly. Yeast bloom is a very hard way to get motivated to change eating habits.
Katla I LOVE that rx!
Karen in VA “And for God's sake don't make them think about it during the Super Bowl.” ROTFLMAO
Viv ooh I have floor envy!
Pip perfect “tired dog is a good dog” pic.
Janet in Mo encouraging pats on the back. YOU can do this!
Went into the kitchen for my third cup of tea and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but Joe wiping off the range grates he’d removed to clean beneath them. Somewhat sheepishly he explained he’d made a big mess with his breakfast and “I knew you’d clean it.” Bubbled over with thanks and told him how lucky I am that he’s my husband.
He’s off to Home Depot in Crescent City which will give me time to catch up on my vacuuming, especially since the stove is already spic’n’span.
Lighter, lovelies!

Singing was WONDERFUL, as always.
Sang a new classic - Purcell.
On the way home I purchased a corn fed chicken and it's in the oven roasting with parsnips, onions and leeks. Brussel sprouts are prepped.
DH then popped in to the wine merchant and bought 6 more bottles of Italian red wine that we especially liked from his previous order. They delivered it an hour later. I bought a bottle of Breton cider.
When we got home we found some of the songs we had sung on Utube and played them
Amazon delivered his Valentine's Day gifts today before we set off for our class, which was lucky. I hid them in the wardrobe. One is a pillow with speaker inset for his sleepless nights, and the other is Mon Cheri liqueur chocolates. Just got to buy a card. We are going to eat in on Friday. Fish. Yum.

Barbara: I'm going to get your quote tatooed somewhere: "this rage serves no useful purpose, only makes others feel bad and me sick." Wise wise woman!!!

Barbara- Verizon quit supporting 3G service the end of December. My husband not happy! His new flip phone is different. The 4G reception not as good as the 3G was even with a new phone. I have read that several carriers are dropping 3G support. And RANT away! I rant everytime I have to deal with Verizon for husband. I am with att.
You are right, yeast bloom is a hard way to learn to eat better. I am not a happy female today. I just want to cry. No new changes, just tired and weepy.
Lunch over. Time to get back to work.
Thank you for listening to me whine.

Brighton and Hove are in the news as the biggest number of Coronavirus sufferers in Britain. One person has infected people in France, and Hove. He travelled back from a conference in Singapore. Two doctors surgeries have closed, two schools and an old people's home. It's not nearby, but a pub on the ring road is also suspect. The man himself just had a mild case of flu. He is well now.
I'm a bit nervous that we may have problems with the cruise. Don't want to be in quarantine for 14 days . We have only booked a small cabin!
Roast chicken and veg was heavenly. Lots left over.

Kylia: We have oak floors in the whole house except upstairs bathrooms and laundry. They are ceramic floor tiles. There is a carpet runner on our stairs with oak edges. I would likely make the same choices again if we ever decide to remodel. Carpet on the stairs reduces the “ouch factor” if there is a fall. So far, no falls.
JanetO: Good luck with your new position. It is wonderful that you can return to your current job if the new one doesn’t suit you.
Barbara & Kylia: We have AT&T for our cell phones and TV, (Direct TV). To get data, we have to use Century Link. We also use Century Link for our house phones. Would a combination of satellite and local phone company services solve your problem? I’ll have to admit I’m not thrilled with paying two service providers. Regarding healthcare--We love our primary care doctor. She is brilliant and responsive if/when we have problems. I tried the glass of red wine last night and may do so again.
Heather: We’ve been having more fish than usual. Our local store has been able to stock perfectly lovely cod. DH is still unwilling to eat salmon. I’m not sure why not. It is something connected to farmed rather than wild caught fish. :flowerforyou:
I have a city meeting tonight. I’ve read my packet and plan to review it one more time before the meeting begins.

Went to the bowling alley to see about subbing. They have (to me) a weird system down here. Seems you pay, some people pay in advance, and if you have to leave for an extended period of time (say you have surgery) you have the option of resigning from the league and they aren’t allowed to put in a sub. See, in our league, if you are out (even for an extended period of time) they get a sub or put you in an “blind”. The sub pays for the games, not you. I would think this would make more work for the club since you have to figure out how much to refund a person
Then went to WalMart to get a mattress cover for one of the beds, a new should curtain liner for one of the tubs, and milk for Vince. Now home and we’ll probably put the liner on the bed.
Just put the cover on the mattress. Wasn't as hard as the one we put on our bed
Barbara – I do hope you get cell service.
I got an email from Caremark saying that they were going to fill an order and I'd be billed after it was shipped. I called to cancel the order. Vince went on and on about how I should have told them how Caremark was part of my private insurance. I told them that before and nothing happened. So I just cancelled the order. I'm not him.

well 4 hours of watching videos of new program, they go live tomorrow morning so ,I will be freaking out Thursday when I go..but oh well..
Trudy and I got hysterical this afternoon, we went to a senior thrift shop that i frequent with Doris , we bought 2 beautiful wool sweaters it was 5.00 a for a bag of clothes, I told her not to wash wool, she says oh I wash mine all the time.. she brought them down to my place and we almost peed ourselves.... her beautiful merano wool jacket looked like it could fit a 10 yr old and mine was handmade in Bolivia and the sweater part shrunk and the arms were hanging to your knees.. it was soooo funny, thank goodness we didnt pay alot..but lordy I can just see all the craziness that will happen on the trip...
one week and we will be staying overnight near the airport and a week from tomorrow we are off to Peru...7 -
Allie ~ I did that to a wool sweater when I was in high school. It was too bad because I didn't have many clothes and felt like a total disaster. In a family of 5 kids, there just wasn't a lot of funds for spending.
4 -
Why does wool shrink when you wash it, but doesn't shrink when it's on the sheep?
I did that to a blanket a long time ago. It just suddenly became a baby blanket. I thought it shrunk in the dryer.

Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon
From what I've read and what my Dr has said ...
If you do not drink alcohol frequently or at all ... don't start.
If you do drink alcohol regularly ... cut back to one glass of red wine/day or less.
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/265635.php
"any health benefits only apply to moderate drinking. The United States (U.S.) Dietary Guidelines 2015 to 2020 define moderate drinking as: "Up to one drink per day for women"
"Red wine is high in resveratrol, and it may offer various health benefits."
"Grapes and berries are a better source of resveratrol than red wine, so eating these is likely to be more healthful than drinking wine."

Allie - thought about you this morning when I went in for 2 little fillings. My dentist had THREE office girls, 2 hygienists, and I think 2 assistants - the one who helped with me did the actual fillings, the dentist just took about 5 minutes to drill. Happy office, lots of laughing. If I find the teleporter one of these days I'll see if they have an opening and you can zoom out here and spend your final working days someplace fun.
I was so happy - painless shot, painless drilling, NO rubber dam (I always choke) The dentist and Sonia the assistant humming and happy. I was so afraid he was going to say "I can't fill this tooth anymore, you need a crown" like my prior crown-happy dentist. $$$$ Feeling very blessed. and richer!
So sorry to hear about the water heater woes! Luckily ours isn't in an enclosed space, it sits on an elevated concrete pad in the garage right above where our freezer is. So if it starts leaking....not gonna be pretty. It's 25 years old.
Tina - as I recall, what makes wool "shrink" is the agitation and all of the little layers on the wool fibers start rubbing and hooking onto each other in the washer. We actually did have sheep whose wool would "felt" under their armpits and on their tummies or if they were rubbing for some reason. I wonder too if the lanolin in their wool kind of kept the fibers lubricated so they weren't prone to "hook" on each other. Ah, lambing season coming up.... glad we don't have to go through it but sure do miss those little lambs bouncing and running.
OK ladies, that's the quick Tuesday update. Have a good evening!

Viv - I just love that flooring!
Michele - Rodger has completely changed his diet. He is eating much healthier now. He used to eat burgers at least 3 times a week and pizza one other. He hasn’t had a burger in out about a month now, we still do pizza every couple of weeks but he doesn’t eat as much. He has cut back on coffee, upped his vegetables and fruits. The greatest thing he has done is started walking 10kms 4 days, 1 off then goes again. This week he has started weight training so is only doing 5kms.
Why do you portion your cereal out ahead of time? Just curious.
Stormy day here in my neck of the woods. One coworker went into the ditch on the way into work. We actually left the office early today. I do not have a long commute but was given the same treatment as everyone else.
I have made breakfast for supper and have everything cleaned up. I think I’m going to go hibernate in the bedroom and catch up on some shows. Looking forward to a new episode of This is Us and a new show called For Life.

Tracey –I portioned my cereal in order to log it accurately. When we go out meeting friends, I’ll just watch what I eat. Another advantage is that I have less of tendency toward “portion distortion”

Our office used to be like that Lynette, but he is a money hungry Dr with big treatment plans and runs a tight ship,no laughing there anymore. He is always emailing us about what we do wrong and just is downright mean to me sometimes..I'm going to do the bare minimum until I can find another job..
Rediculous that on my days of I have to log into the new program to train and not get paid...he is sly as a fox5 -
Kylia-small business owners have it really difficult with insurance. Our contribution towards an employee’s full family plan is something close to $18,000 per year-a rather nice benefit. However, those who don’t need insurance don’t view it as a benefit and would rather have cash. The HSA will ultimately save us money down the road.
Barbara – I manage a moderately large social service agency (around 225 employees). Keeps me busy. Excited we are going to restore a building that has a good deal of significance in our community and put it to good use.
This evening I decided to start tearing apart an old chair for the trash (wanted to break it down, put cushioning, etc. in bags for easier trash hauling. Got quite the work out. Almost have it done. Ended up being a cathartic experience. I have always hated the chair (gave away the couch). It was my mother-in-laws. Had floral print (I have never cared for floral print furniture). Husband would not get rid of the stuff. Even after we got a new couch, he put the stuff in the basement. The chair has been in the basement, the cats have abused it for a few years. It is just down right nasty. Soon it will be just a memory. Realized tonight that I have replaced all furniture in house except dining table and couch since husband passed. The couch is much larger than I need (one of the big l-shaped couches) and a huge ottoman. Will hold on to it, but if younger son moves into a place where he can use it, he will be welcome to it.
Didn't go to gym, but chair destruct was exercise. Off to bed to watch a bit of tv. Getting hair cut in the morning, then going into work.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Not particularly looking forward to this coming week.
I've been enjoying the long weekend even though most of what I've been doing is writing my exam.
Tomorrow, all the busyness starts again ... one thing after the other all week long.
Oh well ... one thing at a time.
Machka in Oz
I think I've made it through the busiest, most complicated morning of the week. The rest of the week is busy, but hopefully not quite so hectic.
Of course, the last thing we did this morning was stop for lunch, and on my way back from getting some napkins, I tripped and slammed my elbow into a high table and immediately slammed my arm down on the table trying to catch my balance. My right arm is quite sore now. But I'm moving it, so I'm sure nothing is broken ... probably just bruised.
Now I've got to figure out where I left off of work last Friday!
And what I'd really like to do is to take a nap ... but I don't get to take naps.
Machka in Oz
Last night was my cycling club's AGM ... the one for all the branches throughout the country. We do them online now so that part was good. I had one eye on Poirot on TV, one eye on my nails which I was doing, and I was sort of listening to the reports etc.
Right elbow area a little sensitive and more colourful than the left.
Today I'm trying to catch up on some work at work, then my husband and I are going to see a documentary about bees, and I've got to do a bit more work on my exam paper.
Didn't sleep very well last night ... stress.

Allie- I had been with the same dentist for 27 yrs. The last 20 years, I actually drove 30 mins to my appointments. When he retired I tried to keep going there as I loved the receptionist and my hygienist, but the new dentist lady was money hungry too. None of the staff were happy. I found a new dentist I adore 5 minutes from work. He treats his staff like family. I heard through the grapevine that the lady dentist didn't last much longer at the old office. She is now in an office about 7 minutes from where I work! That is one office I will avoid. Working with family, as I do, always has its own dramas, but I feel so badly that you are working for such an awful man! Hugs!

So true so true especially not during a super bowl to their me time lol 😂. I’m a stinker I leave the pads where he can see them on purpose found out his ex y ex step daughter hid them he has no clue if she had periods or not. Lol he knows when I did or didn’t! I also left Daughters stuff in view even tho she hid them . Bloody clothes on top of the wash! He learned real fast what we go through I was tired of his no clue attitude. I also included him in on pregnancy hemroids to vomiting. Boob rashes to the mastitis mid pregnancy multiple times! My Csection y he cleaned up the blood in the house from my placental abruption...The Amulance driver y fireman who saw it all came out saying I’ve never seen anything like this she’s dying get her in get her in!! So bravo 👏 hubby who cleaned it up. Mother-in-law tried to clean the fridge y in front of it he said leave it let’s go!! Lol 😂. Since as you know you hear a pop see blood in the kitchen you go to a bathroom (trail of tears 😭 will call it) to the front door to let the help in! I say on the bed don’t even remember that tho. So I left a trail all over even to the baby room to grab bags put by the door which I forgot lol 😂. He brought my purse y bags 💼. He don’t show me that as I showed off my Csection healing lol 😂 daily to him y breast pump.Told him every pee accident to constipation moment .He can not be shocked now lol now I prepare to educate my son y future son in law lol 😂. My hubby now is sympathetic to his moms Csection that still comes undone to his Sisters needing a hysterectomy but can’t as a single mom! He been trained well. When Daughter comes he runs in leaves a box of pads runs out just in case before she comes he shops for them himself!! Bravo 👏. He also will buy me women’s meds! He went from it’s not a big deal ALL Women go through it! To sympathy he brings home random bottles of mitol to big bottles of Tylenol if I sound grumpy 😡! Post pardum had it with Daughter badly. Breastfeeding issues to guilt when I dried up y the fact it wouldn’t increase (Csection y preterm birth Doctor called it a miracle I made 2-5ounces per day total at all). My dream is someday to see an add for after pregnancy products y have them in the store! Hysterectomy products as well!
Hubby picked up on my over whelmed week told me take JR out tomorrow for fun day get a Starbucks to Walmart to McDonald’s or Chuckie cheese or both or whatever your needing! So tomorrow is a ME day with JR. Maybe I can find JR some sz 13 y up shoes to grow into for the pile of grow info’s.
