What did you manage in New York before saving yourself?
I think you are being modest.
I looked at your website.
If not for my grandchildren, I would seriously consider retiring to Algarve to live the good life…& you would help me do it!
Welcome to our little group!

Hmmmm…not sure why that posted twice. But wanted to add to @Maddibeauty not to post links to her website here because it violates MFP policy about advertising/self-promotion.2

Allie - We used to go to a lovely little dentist practice in the next village, but that was taken over by a rapacious conglomerate. We complained about the steep rise in prices, gave them one chance, and were stunned by all their 'suggestions' of work we 'needed' to have done. I rang up to cancel and it obviously upset the very nice receptionist who had been there for ages. She called me back to apologise. DH rang and told them what he thought of them and their avaricious ways. The head of the new conglomerate rang him back to try to sweet talk him and, to his fury, to diss the previous dentist. He gave her his very best talking to, mentioning corporate greed, sharp practice, the good of the community etc.
We left that practice and joined an NHS one 10 miles away, in Winchester, which was a bit of a journey. Worth it though.
We were both soooooo angry.
We have a perfectly adequate NHS practice down here which is just around the corner.
I hope you will find your way to another job soon.

ginny I have this image of you tearing up that awful floral upholstered chair —powerful, funny, cathartic way to burn some calories and feed the soul, definitely a NSV!

Good Wednesday,
Curled up in bed at 9, read a few pages of a book, hubby woke me up to find out how to shut off my tablet(I was reading kindle) and take off my glasses. I have no idea when he came to bed! Feeling a little better this morning.
Amber, have a great ME day with JR.
I have training class today. Happy that it is just around the corner from work. Weather not looking great after 3 this afternoon. I will make a couple of stops before I head to work after class. Shhh, don't tell anyone
Yesterday, I did get parts orders in, invoices totalled and called, waited on customers. Made a to do list for work to get done before we hit springtime craziness. At least I felt somewhat productive!
Heading to hot tub. Need to pack something to munch in the event of food options.
Have a blessed day!
Welcome to the new ladies!
Hugs!
And many Thanks for being here!

Not particularly looking forward to this coming week.
I've been enjoying the long weekend even though most of what I've been doing is writing my exam.
Tomorrow, all the busyness starts again ... one thing after the other all week long.
Oh well ... one thing at a time.
I think I've made it through the busiest, most complicated morning of the week. The rest of the week is busy, but hopefully not quite so hectic.
Of course, the last thing we did this morning was stop for lunch, and on my way back from getting some napkins, I tripped and slammed my elbow into a high table and immediately slammed my arm down on the table trying to catch my balance. My right arm is quite sore now. But I'm moving it, so I'm sure nothing is broken ... probably just bruised.
Now I've got to figure out where I left off of work last Friday!
And what I'd really like to do is to take a nap ... but I don't get to take naps.
Last night was my cycling club's AGM ... the one for all the branches throughout the country. We do them online now so that part was good. I had one eye on Poirot on TV, one eye on my nails which I was doing, and I was sort of listening to the reports etc.
Right elbow area a little sensitive and more colourful than the left.
Today I'm trying to catch up on some work at work, then my husband and I are going to see a documentary about bees, and I've got to do a bit more work on my exam paper.
Didn't sleep very well last night ... stress.
Evening:
Movie: How to Bee
Dinner: Raincheck Lounge
Dessert: Cold Rock
How to Bee http://howtobee.ca/
When filmmaker Naomi Mark found her dad needed more help with his honeybees after being diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) she asked him to start a project with her, she asked him to teach her about bees. How To Bee follows the journey of a father and daughter over three beekeeping seasons as he passes his knowledge on to her and they come to terms with his changing health.
How To Bee is a celebration of life in all stages set against the unique backdrop of Canada’s North.
Raincheck Lounge https://rainchecklounge.com.au/
I had the Veggie Burger!!
Veggie Burger: Sweet potato and quinoa pattie, haloumi, avocado, house slaw, relish and mayo
It was really good. The avocado was pretty much guacamole ... not slices ... so that was really nice.
Cold Rock
A large quantity of delicious ice cream with add-ins as usual.
The one downside was that a slightly loose filling decided to break off and come out. A large one!! An annex has opened up in the left side of my mouth! My tongue has been busy measuring it for drapes and wondering if a new sofa will fit in there.
I've got a decision ... do I get the tooth fixed now or wait till after my nose surgery?
But my instructor has given us all several extra days to complete our exam papers!! Cool!

Did a downloadable spinning workout today. The plan for tomorrow is to take the power Hour class.
M – the main reason I don’t weigh food down here is because we don’t have a food scale (at least not an accurate one. I THINK there’s one in the pantry, but it’s old and probably not very accurate. I can’t even get it down).
The ladies here usually go out to lunch at a restaurant on Wednesdays, but today they’re having some sort of tea. I’m really not interested in going, but we are going to go to the pot luck Friday. One of my neighbors came over last night because someone else called her to ask her if I was coming. When she told them I wasn’t the sweet person asked her if I even knew about it. I did, but I thought that was sweet of her to be concerned about me.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all,
Machka, sorry about your tooth! Hope it's easily repairable. Also, one of the funnier takes on a tooth break:
"My tongue has been busy measuring it for drapes and wondering if a new sofa will fit in there."
Allie, many, many hugs. Being miserable in your working situation is horrible like few other things.
Trigger warning for cookie lovers! Am spending the morning in town, as it's all-hands on deck for cookie season delivery preparation. The thousands of cookie boxes get delivered in case lots on Friday, and rooms must be cleared to store thousands of boxes securely. This is for the cookie cupboard, so troops don't have to order all their cookies up front, they can come and get what they need throughout their booth sales, so they always have the full selection of flavors to sell.
Cookie season is always frantic, but over by the end of March. More than a million boxes will be sold by the girls in this council alone--and we are a "small" council. There are 113 councils across the U.S., and more than 200 million boxes are sold each year--for January to March, Girl Scout cookies are the number one cookie brand in the United States! The other 9 months of the year, it's Oreos.
Off to town,
Later, y'all,

We went out to buy fish for our Valentine's meal on Friday. I decided to combine it with a 5k as the weather is not going to be good later in the week. Jogged down to the fish market and purchased two beautiful, big, Dover Sole, locally caught. They were pricey, but less than half the cost of a small one in a restaurant.
Then I saw cleaned squid, but before I could buy it they had snatched the box away as it was not super fresh.
DH encouraged me to jog once around the lagoon before setting off down the pebble covered promenade. The tide was right in and waves were breaking over the sea wall, but we avoided them. Went down to the swimming pool before we turned round to come home. According to my rough calculation, that was just a bit more than 5k. I would not have done it all without DH's encouragement. That man is a super coach. The wind was blowing, the sea was spraying and the pebbles were everywhere.
Tonight is French Circle. It's about Hector Malot, who I had never heard of until now. Apparently he is a prolific writer from the the mid 1800s.

I slept late today instead of going to my Wednesday coffee group again. I am disappointed with myself. How can I call these women my friends if I don't go talk to them? Not sure why I feel so sluggish. Probably eating too much sugar.

"Todo"s and "done"Done: Line Dance, called Pat
Bonus: 2.5 hrs pruning
ToDo: BB&B, invest 10 mins cleaning Guest Bth, carry over 10 mins cleaning Living Room, Master Bth, GuestBth, schedule DEXA scan with CHN, dog group, get M$oft login fixed, install iCloud for Win 10, Shadow to Mini Pet Mart to shop for crate, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, bake bran muffins, call Carolyn D. Next week get Shingrix vaccine. Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
Called SIL, gal needed to talk. 2.5 hrs later no cleaning done. Beautiful day, took dogs down the drive and started pruning the bush/trees Joe wants to chainsaw. 2.5 hrs later, barely a dent and now my wrists are sore. Dragged my lazy butt to line dance class anyway, stuck it out for the whole two hours and felt better for it.
NYKaren, but please no tattoos! Needles make me queasy  I’m optin for a sticky note on the laptop
Kylia guess there is no perfect carrier, but here Verizon has a better track record than ATT according to the NextDoor neighbors. So sorry your yeast bloom is persisting. Hoping you get relief SOON.
Heather When are you scheduled to cruise? Really hoping no more new cases in your area and you are given the all clear. Love hearing about your roasted veges, singing, dancing and 5K along the lagoon. Brava!
Katla I’d love to have wooden or good quality laminate throughout the whole house, with area rugs in the bathroom for cozy tootsies, and vinyl in the bathrooms. All the floors would need to have some texture as ceramic tile is too slippery for elder dogs, which ours will be one day and likely before I get to remodel. Satellite reception here is not good, too many mountains and trees, oh gee, what a shame! Very reluctant to pay $$ for a land line, just for emergencies. Will check to see if landline+Consumer Cellular >= Verizon’s reliability, and bite the bullet, after the tax refund comes in.
Michele you’re still going to get your rx, right?
Allie think it must be very hard to learn a new system from videos only with no hands on practice or in person support. I’d freak out too. (new) “computer program is not running” Surprise!
Carol me 2, and it was a sweater I really really liked.
Tina “. . .on the sheep?” great question.
Lanette interesting answer, thanks! Used to live in sheep country, miss seeing the lambs every Feb/March. Might want to start researching water heater replacement options, just sayin’
Ginny your cathartic chair destruction made me smile. If we ever get to remodel, I’ll feel the same way about the floral printed walls in our kitchen and bathroom.
Macha “one eye on Poirot on TV, one eye on my nails which I was doing…” great mental image  Likewise your tongue “measuring the new annex for drapes…”. Maybe best to get the tooth fixed, don’t want any infections prior to surgery.
Welcome Maddibeauty in Portugal, wow what a transition!
Amber So happy for you that your husband loves you that much. Enjoy your day!
Lisa “or January to March, Girl Scout cookies are the number one cookie brand in the United States” WOW
Annie hope you feel better soon.
Invested 10 mins introducing Shadow to the Gentle Leader. Went well, tho’ the nose ring latch doesn’t lock down. Hopeful a little more play/practice will make it possible to take Shadow to dog group today instead of Tumble. Fingers X’d!

Peachy & Allie: I’ve washed wool successfully in my life. Cold water, gentle cycle and air dry with a fan blowing over. The other workable idea is hand wash and air dry. No dryer. I don’t have any wool clothing now. It is too warm for me these days. :noway:
Machka: I agree with the notion of avoiding alcohol altogether. My doctor said to have one glass of red wine per day. I’ll give it a short trial period and then decide whether to go back to zero alcohol.
Pip: I agree that we both have great taste in rugs.
Allie: Is there another dentist in town? Perhaps you would be happier working somewhere else. :flowerforyou:
One of my yoga instructors has been in training to become a dental hygienist. She successfully finished her course and has her first job—working on prisoners in a Portland jail. She is thrilled to be able to help them with their teeth and hopes they’ll have a better chance at employment when they finish their jail terms. I am so happy for her! I probably won’t get to see much of her any more. I think she’ll still teach yoga on Monday nights. I don’t go to the gym in the evenings. Morning yoga classes work better for me.

Barbara – yes, I’ll still get my prescription. Just not from this mailorder place. They screw up too too any times. When I get home, I’ll call the MD and ask him to call in a prescription to the local WalMart pharmacy
After exercise came home, did a load of laundry, got dinner ready to microwave.
Get this: the other day we had this shrimp gumbo. Remember me telling you how Vince was convinced his upset stomach was "something he ate". Well, we had the EXACT same thing last night. No problem. When I mentioned it to Vince he said "well, I'm still convinced that it was something I ate". Really????? He ate the exact same thing and didn't have a problem. Same batch of shrimp. I think he just doesn't want to admit that I was right and he was being silly.

Wool can be pretreated to be washable. And if the yarn is washed before the garment is made, it will wash better. Cold water, very little soap, and very little agitation will minimize shrinkage, but it won't clean as well. A warm water hand rinse with no agitation is a little riskier but generally safe.
There was a time when I bought and dyed fleece which my ex spun into yarn on a spinning wheel. I would then knit or weave it into blankets and sweaters. I still have quite the collection of yarn and sweaters.6 -
Barbara - It's in April. Today our excursion leaflet arrived. We are pondering which ones to go on. Watch this space!

Favorite Cardios: Swimming - I'm not a good swimmer, but love to exercise in water where it doesn't hurt as much; Dancing, although the only dancing I do is in my house with no one watching (or maybe after a couple of drinks)…; and, of course, chasing after my grandchildren!
Ginny How did your soup come out for the Fund Raiser?? Sounds yummy!
Katla So sorry to hear about DDIL’s Mom. Prayers for you and all the family.
Heather Adorable Edie! You have such wonderful travel plans!
Michele I hope things warm up down there and you are swimming soon!
Barbara “Witness how many carryover cleanings in the ToDo list. Walk away from the computer, Barbara, walk away!” LOL!!
Tracey Your plans with the Grands sound terrific! Those children are very fortunate to have you for Grandma!
For that matter, ALL OF YOU GRANDMAS are awesome! I feel like I have really great examples for how to be a wonderful grandmother!
Rori Amazing success with your nose to knees NSV!!
Carol Poor Puppy!! My doggies freak out walking in the snow. They walk like their royal feet were never meant to touch cold white stuff. It is hilarious, but I know they really have those thoughts! It’s written all over their faces.
Machka Wonderful love story with your husband! In answer to why would I spend my life with someone who wasn’t my best friend? I still wanted to have a sex life when I married…since I already had children from a previous marriage, and I didn’t believe in running around in front of my children, being married gave me the opportunity to be intimate and gave my children a man to look up to and learn from - things I couldn’t teach as a woman.
Husband/Best friend Hubby and I had a rough time throughout the beginning years together. I had a lot of baggage from previous marriage, and he had anger issues. We separated off and on, but he remained true and continuously working to stay together. We have been married almost 25 years, and I have to say I am fortunate to have such a devoted man. He has a very different background from me and we have had to learn how to understand one another, but when it comes down to everything – he is the one I run to and the one I want to talk to about most anything. I will be totally lost if anything happens to him! I have a best girlfriend who I go to with everything that women talk about…we have much in common and have struggled with similar physical limitations. She is also the stronger personality and helps bring me out of my submissive side.
Kelly If I were one to cry, I think I would have cried at “Joaquin will often go to the window of the infant room and look in at his brother.” So incredibly sweet! I agree at the bond in the picture…so precious! What an adorable group of kids in the day care pic! You are a saint to help raise all these children! Such a special gift!!

Michele- Rodger had been complaining of stomach issues and headaches for probably 4 years. He was self diagnosing as well and refused to see a doctor. I was sure the headaches were blood pressure and stomach was diet. Since he’s been to a doctor in November and is being taken care of he has learned I was right. I understand your frustration with him saying it was something he ate. Rodger was doing that daily to me.

Yes! And since I do all of the cooking, and we don't eat out that much (once a week), the comment always feels like an indictment.
But my husband is a chronic snacker, so I have to bite my tongue when he complains about "something I ate," because I'm pretty sure it wasn't what I cooked, but too much snacking.

Will catch up later. All good intentions to pack something to eat for training meeting today. Wasnt a priority, so didn't do it. Man....lesson learned! I am currently eating an Oatmega protein bar. It is okay, but wouldn't go out of my way to eat. Pastries offered for breakfast. Hamburger and fries for lunch. Ugh! I could have eaten the burger but have burgers 3 times in five days. Upside- I didnt grab a snickers bar. Dinner wont come fast enough!
