Hello, everyone,
Work vent - enter at your own risk:I woke up in a FOUL mood this morning, and realized it's because it's literally my busiest time of year at work, with a grant due tomorrow, a presentation on Monday and then I'll be in other meetings, a number of them hours long, all next week, including having to go into town for a meeting with the new HR manager and tell her what I do. Everyone on this side of the state has to go and sit down and do that same thing, so it's not just me, but it's definitely bad timing.
However, them upstairs have rearranged half the organization again (fourth time since I've been here) in response to a mandate from the national organization which meant a job lost on the west side of Arkansas, which puts all the chickens to clucking and wondering if they're next. No one even wants my job, so I'm not too worried. I'd only lose mine if they decide they want the grant writer to be under their thumb at the central office, so they chuck me overboard and move the job there. They've done weirder things since I've been with the organization. And it must be on my mind, or I wouldn't have brought it up.
And last but far from least, I canNOT get finance off their narrow behinds. (Seriously, skinniest women you ever saw.) Last Friday I sent them an email asking for information I need to file the grant that's due tomorrow. I can't even get them to say "Yes, we got your emails," much less get the information. It's just annoying.
Even more annoying is, the grant isnt actually due until next week Friday, but they don't know that. I've just learned if I give them the real deadline, they drive me into a screaming-meemie, fingernail-biting swivet until they ride in at the very last moment and save the day. I hate that stuff. I guess it's time to ask for read receipts, even though everyone hates them, and they double your own email burden. Grrf.
I don't usually just yearn for Friday, indeed, I'm often surprised that it's got here already, but:
Ah, I feel better now. Sorry for those that read it, just had to say it somewhere. Not doing terribly well with my reframing or script-flipping this morning. No solutions necessary, cross my heart, but I wouldn't turn down a few sympathy votes, or as Mama used to call them, "po' babies." As in, "Po' baby, are people being mean to you?"
Welcome to those who are new--we're glad you're here, please drop in often, this group gets addictive.
Many good thoughts for those who are going through trials or tribulations.
Many hurrahs for those with triumphs both on and off the scales.
Later, y'all,
Love, Lisa
I do federal submissions every 3 months ... regularly, like clockwork. I put it in my calendar. Last Friday in March, last Friday in June, last Friday in September, last Friday before the Christmas break in December. Happened last year. Happened the year before ...
About 6 weeks in advance I send out the "It's that time again ... I need info from you all by ... " email to the appropriate people.
And about 3 days before the end of the month, after several more emails asking, "Where is the info?" I finally get it and have to frantically put the whole thing together.
Every single time.
This is not a surprise. The Powers that Be didn't suddenly decide to have a March and a June this year for the first time in 15 years. They appear in the calendar pretty consistently.
And yet somehow it comes as a complete shock to everyone.
So yeah ... I get how you feel.
And we've just had an organisation restructure too. It was announced on Tuesday. It was one of these things where head people and names of areas have changed (my area has a new name ... don't ask me what it is) but no information was provided about how it would affect us bottom of the chain people doing the work. 'Tis the season, I guess.
But makes for extra stress we don't need.
Amusing story related to that ... (Aussies will get this, but I might have to explain a bit) ...
Our new acronym is PPPR and we were saying how that's kind of like a kitty's purr when my supervisor said, "We'll just nickname ourselves "The Cats"" ...
To which I responded ... and we'll all support the Geelong Cats! (Geelong Cats are an Australian Football League team, which I support).
My supervisor looked at me very darkly and then turned to answer someone else's question. (He supports the Kangaroos ... a different AFL team).
So I turned to the ones standing closest to me and said, "I think I've just been fired!" Everyone laughed.
Of course I hadn't, we each have teams we like and tease each other about them.
Back to culling words from my Exam Paper!

Allie ... Have a wonderful time! Don't forget the pics!
NYKaren ... my son received a 1099-MISC for his internship/summer work. Nothing was taken out of his checks. He apparently owes FICA taxes, etc. So, yet another tax bill coming. He made roughly 6500 and will pay around 1000. Did he save anything from those checks? Even though his mother told him to set 20% aside? No.
Amber ... I applaud you for portioning out yours and your husband's food, but I'll tell you ... there's no way my husband would be satisfied on what you're eating either.
Rebecca ... Athena's pictures come up almost full screen on my computer. Makes me smile every single time!
Received a produce box yesterday. The company I use is doing a limited trial run of allowing customers to pick the produce and I was chosen to participate. So the produce included items I wanted to try or knew about and wanted to eat! Last night I made Sautéed Beet Greens with Roasted Beets. They were Golden Beets and were delicious. I've also been reading Cooking Light's/Eating Well magazine's recent article on the "true" Mediterranean diet as to our modern day use of the diet. In their analysis, based on data from the the late 40's, the Mediterranean diet included a lot of barley (not pearled) ... which makes a lot of sense in terms of the health benefits ... so we had that as well last night with some chicken. A righteous meal! I loved researching my recipes, cooking it and eating it. Link to the story available online:
Have a great day!

How do I get so far behind?
Up to P47 but have to stop now, I seem to have been reading for ages.
Another cold and rainy day, can't wait for warmer weather. It will be nice to go on a dog walk without having to put on extra jumpers, body warmers, hats coats, ear muffs and gloves
Need to get some laundry done, and a few other bits and pieces before taking the dog to the vet for her next injection. It's costing a fortune, so hope the injections help her allergies, not sure if I said but she is allergic to almost every tree in the world and lots of grasses.
Best get on!
Love to all

Diana I have relatives in Stockhom and Gavle Sweden too. Loved my visit. My grandmother came from the Trysil area of Norway not far from western Sweden. Loved visiting Carl Larson's home. One of the highlights from my trip.
Lisa your poster gave me a good laugh! Thanks!
Okie love how you set clear boundaries and followed through!
No leg cramps so I had a great night sleep. I am getting used to sleeping without mouth breathing. I do notice I do not wake up with a dry throat. This was day 4 of trying this.

Beth - Ah yes, the downside of being a 1099 vendor. I had one that wanted to 1099 me, I said sure, here’s the rate for that. They said but that’s higher, I said yes it is, because I’m paying both sides of the FICA tax.

When I was working, I was grateful every day for my job because I had gotten it at a time when there were hundreds of applicants for every opening. Now that I am retired, I am grateful every day for having worked the job that provided me the means to retire and for being retired and living the life of my dreams.
Today Jake is baking bread. When he bought the bread maker and all the bread making ingredients and cook books he said that he wanted to make bread for himself that was low sodium. Now he says that he doesn't like the low sodium bread, but he likes making specialty bread for me. Yesterday he asked if I wanted rye, pumpernickel, or wheat with pecans. They all sounded good so I wrote their names of pieces of paper and drew one out of a hat. I think he's making rye. I can slice it and freeze it and eat one slice at a time for a treat.
Viv, I read this thread in the mornings while I eat my breakfast. Otherwise, I could never keep up even with my simple daily schedule.

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Today's my 1st day back. I've done MFP in past but I want this time to be different. I could use any support from others if possible. Has anyone ever heard of the carb mgr app? I need to watch my carbs, sugars, and sodium mostly and didn't know if that app was better or worse than MFP. Ty and looking forward to chatting with everyone.6

Machka: I am betting that you will succeed with your education, career and life. You are a strong and motivated woman. :flowerforyou:
Debbie in VA: I hope you have a good day.
Viv: I’m so sorry that your pup has allergies that require injections. What kind of dog is it?
Needtosucceed: I’ve never heard of a carb manager diet. Perhaps someone else knows. My own preference is high protein. High protein is often accompanied by high fat. I try for roughly equal thirds-with carbs, fat and protein. I’m not always disciplined, and yesterday I had a slice of cheesecake—fat won. Cheesecake is a rare treat for me and I had this treat at a nearby Thai restaurant
I have a haircut scheduled today. I’ve gotten really shaggy and it is past time to get it done.

Allie - glad you made it! Please make sure to take plenty of photos - we want to hear all about it
Beth - thank you for sharing the link ref the real Mediterranean Diet. It was very good! Glad you are able to pick what you'll get in your produce box.
I'm always anxious to try new meatless or reduced meat recipes. I have the "Blue Zones" cookbook on order from the library. I may have mentioned that I've fallen in love with a lentil soup (more of a stew) from the "Fat Free Vegan" website. Uses lots of mushrooms. I do saute the mushrooms and veggies in a bit of butter and olive oil but I always have some of that cooked up and in the freezer.
Have a super Thursday!

Hi all. I'm on the train home.
Sooooo enjoyed our lunch at the Wolseley. The atmosphere was buzzing and the waiters were superb. The Maitre D was the best. I had Kedgeree.
Picasso was wonderful, as always. I wouldn't want to live with him, but he is a great inspiration.
Caught an early train home which is full of half term kids. Some people are standing!!
Here we are at our table.

Back at work today. Still not feeling 100% but I’ve got things that need to get done. I’m already scheduled for some vacation time next week and don’t want to get too far behind.
Lisa – that’s one of the parts of my job that just drives me nuts. People don’t seem to understand that I can’t do my job if someone else isn’t doing theirs. And how the heck do they expect me to pay an invoice if they haven’t sent it to me! (Yes, I work in finance , although my boss is very good about getting people info when they ask for it – well, having me get it for them at least).
Speaking of work –So a couple of weeks ago my boss and her boss came to me asking if I would be interested in a new position that they were thinking about creating. One of the people in another section of our department was leaving. The idea was to split both hers and my positions. The day-to-day mundane stuff that we both did would be passed on to other people (or possibly a part time person hired to do those things) and the more report-oriented, analytical parts of both jobs would be combined into a new position. That’s the one they were asking me if I would be interested in. Since that’s the part of my job I enjoy the most, I was excited about the possibility.
Unfortunately, the “higher-ups” wouldn’t agree to it. They wanted the 2 positions left as they are. So they asked me if I would be interested in taking the other position on an interim basis (it’s actually a higher position than my current one) while they do a search for a new person. So that’s what I started this week, along with doing most of my current job. So now I’m trying to decide if I want the new position or should I just stay with my old one.
There are a lot of reasons to go with the new job – 1. It’s more money which would help ease our budget and make it easier to get some debts paid off; 2. The higher salary will affect my retirement benefit when I finally do get to retire (benefit is based on the average salary of the last 3 years worked); 3. I would be learning some new things, which I like to do, and taking on a little more responsibility at work; 4. Even if it’s not the perfect job, I’d only be doing it to 4-6 years (if retirement works out the way I’m hoping right now).
The thing that I keep coming back to though, is that I’m really good at my current job, even though there are parts of it that are boring and annoying. But there are also parts that I really enjoy doing and those would go to other people if I went with the new positon.
Fortunately, I don’t have to decide right now – I have a couple of weeks in the new position before any definite decisions are made. Hopefully once I get more into the new job, things will become clearer and it’ll be easier to make a decision.
Thanks for listening – getting that down in writing has helped.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: BB&B, Freddie’s, Post Office, fire dept board meeting.
Bonus: pruned another clump, abstained from evening chocolate.
Get to do: invest 10 mins cleaning SOMETHING, (DR/GuestBth, Living Rm, Master Bth, Kitchen/Laundry, Office, Master & Guest Bds), veg prep, track rack shipment, board meeting minutes, call for Almost Maine reservations, voicemail Doug about Win10 update and iCloud install, Brookings Got Talent, for complete series TDAP <$48, bake bran muffins, call Carolyn D. Next week Shadow to Mini Pet Mart to shop for crate, get Shingrix vaccine. next month: follow up for DEXA scan appt. Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
By choosing not to clean, I’ve made the prospect overwhelming. Today I will start fresh with investing 10 mins in cleaning whatever first pops up in front of me.
Karen in VA Thank you for that! Oh, just read about your friend Lynette. Praying for peace for her, her family and friends.
Luci, please reconsider and do stop and walk around every few hours on your long drives. With love from she who developed “lots” of blood clots after a 9 hour drive from H E double tooth picks.
Amber preparation and planning are key. You’re doing a great job, keep introducing more healthy foods. Today looks like it might be a little short of fiber, would some raw veggies or salad work for a snack?
Anone heard from Suebdew lately?
Only part way into page 56 but Joe just left for town. This is my chance to vacuum. Hooray!

beth Rachel was told that internship $ was tax free so she didn't set anything aside, frustrating, but lesson learned!
Karen VA hugs to you and your friend, she sounds like an amazing person.
Just got home from a great brunch with my retired nursing friend, she's now teaching violin in her retirement and just so happily challenged by this new profession! She's an inspiration. She lives in the sweetest little farmhouse, with a wood stove in her cozy kitchen, she served scrambled eggs, i brought fresh berries, and someone else brought cinnamon sugar donuts (i took a single bite of the donut, which was enough). Lively conversation but now I'm ready for introvert time.
DH and I are taking a weekend trip to DC, no plans but to wander and spend time together.

Will be so glad when February is over. At the beginning of the month, I realized there were no birthdays or special occasions (we didn't observe Valentine's Day) to spend money on. Didn't happen...had to put our beloved Pom to sleep, had to have a new starter installed in my Honda, and today I had to have a crown replaced that was bothering me. Just glad that I have been able to save enough money to cover it all.
Welcome to all the new chatters and good wishes and prayers to those in need.

Debra Sweden- Welcome my Mom was special needs Adult so definitely get the adult caregiver aspects of it. Heard good things about Canada y Sweden’s programs versus the USA.
Barbara SOC- my snack was granola fiber .Laying off veggies except potatoes till my IBSD calms down it’s not letting me keep the veggies down at the moment so soup y potatoes with granola y pretzel crisps are easier to digest. Will reintroduce veggies hard core soon as my stomach allows.
Hubby - Eats 2 trays or 1 Tray with a Keto sandwich 🥪 or 1-2 Tray with 4 toasts . It’s a learning curve to figure out his y my ideas of a meal lol. He admitted the soup y wedges were too American food like not Hispanic enough. He should have just said that in the beginning! Now I know what direction he wants.

Amber - What granola balls are you getting that two little balls give you a fiber hit (aren't you putting two in your meal tray for the day)? Most granola is not a significant source of fiber unless you eat a ton of it, and then you've eaten 1/2 a days calories to get the fiber. I would love to look into them.
Okie in the TX Hill Country
Edited to add - Never mind. I found where you linked to them before. 80 calories for a gram of fiber in two balls. Thanks!2 -
The tray has 1 granola bar plus 2 granola ball plus the pretzel crisps I go by serving size. The tray is not mandatory more grab on the go or if JRs making a bowl of cereal or anything impossible to it into the schedule.Must eat the whole pack.If you have calories left add something to it like a protein shake.
Meal trays are exactly 1 serving size of each item so calories are known. Hubby usually eats 2 cause his calories for the day are higher than mine. I eat 1. A stack of premade meals (not the snacks) only lasts 1-2days for each of us then theirs a new set of meals made so if you feel like the last tray from the days before plus a newest one you have that. If you feel like the tray now plus the newest one you have that. Hubby not eating this one through it off track cause now I’m eating 3days worth instead of 1-1 1/2days of soup. As trays empty from snacks y meals I make new snacks y meals before their all finished. So every meal you see before y after are in there together when done right so you get a choice of which one you feel like. New sets are added with the old y older set but get eaten before 3days hit.The prepackaged meal prep a quick go to for easy meal when needed but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a salad on the side of it or add ketchup or eat it with a bunch of grapes 🍇 or even your favorite chips etc. Their more so your stuffs correctly measured out so you know the calories then only have to measure y add a few items in your day instead of all of them with a screaming toddler melting down or grab something unhealthy cause you would normally run out of time to cook a full meal end up with a cheese sandwich 🥪 or takeout.
My calorie limit 1200cal for a full day
Hubby 2,353cal recommendation by Doctor (eats 2 meal packs plus snacks always wants a bread item on the side) .He has more to loose than me tho why Doctor set it so low on intake. He was in 4x clothing is down to 3X clothing now.
A previous meal pack calories may be higher than a newer one or lower but same with snack packs to go with it. Calories are measured so Can choose the one that fits what you got left over.
Amber Tx3 -
My exact meal yesterday added a protein shake to get to my level of calories y JR didn’t finish his pizza toddler slice so like all moms Yup ate it. Went over in salt so got to watch that .Got my fiber in as you can see tho.
2 -
The day before that meal packs I made prior overlap with the newest ones made. I went over because hubby brought home had 2 Girl Scout cookies when I should have said no since that would have been better filled with a piece of fruit like a banana for potassium or egg whites Ect.
