Hi Everyone! So at long last I met with the dietitian. I was so excited to finally get started on my eating and wellness goals. She wrote "NO alcohol"! across the top of my paper and it is on the fridge along with the healthy snack ideas and other tips she shared. She also wrote, "get excited about the changes that will come. This will be a joyful time for yourself!" I almost burst into tears of gratitude. She gave me a plan I can live with and I liked her so much I just want to please her like a puppy does her master. She weighed me but I go back in 2 weeks to see the progress I have made. I've decided I am going to be brutally honest and accountable to her so that means sticking to what she has told me to do. Another important part of wellness is, as we all know, exercise. She said, "put exercise on your calendar just as you would a dentist appointment and do it. You would not cancel the dentist or dr or whomever. Make it as important as that." That really resonated with me. So I dutifully wrote down the times that I have chosen to exercise..and by that I mean walking, nothing crazy yet, for 30 minutes, 4 days a week, to start. That means if someone calls me to go out to breakfast I will say, "Oh I have an appointment from 830 to 915 but can meet you at 10." I must make it as much as a habit as brushing my teeth. It is vital to our health.
Sorry this so long, I guess I am just excited. Love ya''ll! Jen11 -
Good afternoon everyone! I am back on MFP after a hiatus but what's new this time is I am getting sober. I am 7 days sober today and 7 days into my new lifestyle of healthy choices.
A little about me. I am 38 years old, no children except a fur baby kitty. I live in Cleveland Ohio. I am a big sports fan, reality TV junkie and aspiring runner. I need to find my identity a little without alcohol. I was off work for 6 months and started drinking earlier and earlier in the day to the point I was drinking 4 or more bottles of wine a day. After 7 days I can say I feel wonderful but I know the cravings will come. I hope I can find ways to cope and get through successfully. Hopefully you will welcome me to your lovely group12 -
@KristenNagle1 Welcome! We are happy to have you. 7 days sober is excellent! We are a supportive, non judgmental group. Some have better luck with complete sobriety than others, but we never stop trying. Many of us have tried for years to be moderate drinkers but most of us realize we can't. We will support you in anyway we can.6

@JenT304. That is so exciting and refreshing to hear. Thats awesome you clicked so well with her. I have no doubt you'll get those pounds off!
@KristenNagle1 congratulations on taking that step to better yourself! 7 days is good start. Happy for you guys.
Hope all are well!5 -

Good Morning Friends! There has been a few inches of snow here in the midwest and I Love it! I had a good week overall with drinking- none. I will take one day at a time. This weekend, I have no plans and I have received no texts from friends..... but that's OK! I need to hibernate and regroup after last weekend's binge. Wishing you a great day!5

Happy Saturday all💗 6:41 am in Vegas I won't be drinking today!4

Welcome @KristenNagle1 Congrats on Day 7 !!
YAY @JenT304 Sounds like your plan is a good one...I need to get on the Food bandwagon again...I was doing so good for a month, logging every day and then Boom!! Anyhoo, I will get it together on Monday...the infamous "Monday" LOL
YAY @RubyRed427 on the drinking-none!!
YAY @whitpauly on another 24!!
I'm thinking there was someone else new here on the last page, but if I go back to check, I'll lose my post...so whoever you are WELCOME!!
We have been blasted in the past two days with a huge crapload of snow...we got 54 cm (almost 2 ft) in one 24 hour period and I'm not sure how much we got the day before that, but my car was buried. Most of our roads in the neighboring 2 counties were closed & at one point they even took the snow plows off the roads...Everything was shut down yesterday. I had 2 snow days at home. I think these are the first snow days for me this season. This winter has actually been great for being able to get to work each day and the forecast for the worst winter ever never came to be...BUT we made up for it in just the past 2 days...
Nice to see that everyone is continuing to hang in & hang on3 -

Hi there
@wwwtheselion11 Welcome and @NArunner too!!
@domimfp You have such a good attitude...and your compassion for the "misguided but ultimately good souls" shows that!! I'm sure these kids have a back story that contributed to their situation and some bad decisions have sealed their fate at such a young age. What a shame...so sad!!
PS...no apologies about long posts please...I am likely one of the wordiest birds on here and I am NOT apologizing so STOP it, K? Please...Y'all gotta say what ya gotta say when ya gotta say it and there is no apologies for that!!

Good morning friends! Today's goals: exercise and get a massage. What a difference a week makes! After the binge last Saturday night and a wasted Sunday, this weekend has been ideal. @lorrainequiche59 I would love to be blasted with that much snow. We get some a few inches but never that blast. I know it's inconvenient but it is pretty and calming. Pretty soon spring will be here!5

Happy March 1! Spring is just around the corner and next week we Spring forward with the clocks. I love having more light in the evenings. Anyway I am on day 4 of my dietitian's plan and I can say I have never felt better. My skin is glowing, I am sleeping soundly and the lbs are coming off (even though I am only supposed to weigh myself once a week, I simply could not help peeking at the scale) I am eating stuff I would never have ordered out in the past. Yesterday my husband and I went to lunch. We sat at the bar and he had 2 beers and a dozen wings. I had water and a quinoa/kale bowl with some chicken for protein. It was not the best thing I've ever eaten, I'll be honest, but it was just OOOZING health...do you know what I mean? It felt like by eating it, I was atoning for the sins of my past. Richard made a face when he tasted it and declared it to be "sawdust". LOL. Well I am not trying to change him, that's not my job. Anyway I feel great and am happy I decided to seek out a dietitian's help. It's been a change for the better.6

Awesome Jen! 👍 I've been going in the wrong direction and had to buy slightly bigger jeans,I can still fit my others but not comfortably 😤 a lot of "puffiness" in my gut, I just haven't had the energy to exercise like I did before and the iron supplements I'm taking seem to make me hold water! No apologies for long posts, we 💗 long posts haha! 9:36 am in Vegas another 24,btw the tree trimmers across the street all were drinking tall cans at 8 this morning before they started working, gag!5

Still hanging in there with not drinking. Our faculty team building for March is bowling next Wednesday. I haven’t bowled in 40 years but working with young colleagues will keep me young I’m convinced. Having a job I love is helping me not drink. I feel blessed. Last year at this time stress was making it so hard. I need to figure this out because obviously life won’t stay stress free forever. Doesn’t work that way. But for now I’m grateful for a little respite. Have a lovely week, everyone.8

Starting this month I am taking beer out of my diet. I know for a fact it is why I am not loosing weight. There a million reasons to quit, most importantly my children and health. Very happy to see there is a discussion group that we can talk to during this. Here’s to day one and many more.7

Thanks for the quick responses! I’ve never been a real beer drinker either. Literally maybe 2–3 a year. I’m just yearning for something flavorful, refreshing, and not sweet. If there were no negative psychological consequences a NA beer would seem to be a good solution. I definitely don’t want to jeopardize this lovely AF roll I’m on.

Welcome @Tattoomama4440 Yes alcohol is definitely a factor in weight gain. If I remember correctly your body goes to work on processing the alcohol before anything else, it is burned first as a fuel source...it can negatively affect sleep and not enough sleep can cause us to produce extra cortisol (stress hormone) which can lead to cravings...also lower inhibitions can cause us to binge on all the wrong foods in excess. The kiddo and your health are fantastic motivators to ditch the habit. It may also help you to educate yourself about alcohol and the negative side. You CAN do this!!3

So, new to MFP. I just figured it out. My beer drinking and requisite snacking is costing me 28,000 calories a month. A MONTH. You believe that *kitten*? Come on... haha. Anyway, would love some sober friends as I try to get my *kitten* together.7

Hi to all hope everyone is finding things getting easier for those struggling. I just wanted to thank everyone here for the support. Tomorrow will be 1 yr since I quit beer all together. Cant really believe I did it but its done. I have nothing to compare stats wise other than 35 beer bubbly pounds gone. But Im sure Im in a better position and my liver thanks me. Gone are also the miserable hangovers. Dont miss it.8
