but after moping for the week and weekend, i have a renewed dedication to taking care of myself and running. so long run tonight. and then back on track with my training plan
I'm so sorry.
I'm off the wagon too and trying to hop back on. I can't shake my holiday depression.
Rather than feel like you all have to jump back onto a moving wagon, we'll stop the wagon and give you a hand up. This is hard stuff you're dealing with.10 -

I did not get a chance to post yesterday. I did read through though and liked and hugged lots of post. And I did get my long run of 7.6 miles in yesterday. It was an ok run. I was tired though. I had a hard time getting up and going because of daylight savings time. Then it was cloudy and windy so it wasn't a pretty run. It was mostly an uneventful run. I did keep my pace where I wanted it so I felt good about it. The first half of the run wasn't too bad and the second half was ok, but that was running into the 16 mph winds. It was 52°F starting out and got up to about 55°F by the end which isn't too bad, but the wind made it seem cooler starting out. I was glad for the sleeves since it is easy to start out with them and take them off if needed. Tomorrow morning should be 51°F with no wind, so I am really looking forward to that. My plan calls for 5 miles. Hopefully it will be a good run.
@quilteryoyo Congrats on your distance PR!
@Camaramandy648 Great job on the 18 miler! I hope you son isn't too sick.
@hamsterwheel6 I hope that you can get a handle on the toe pain before the HM.
@hmaddpear Sorry aobut your hip. I hope you are feeling better soon.
@jele30 Sorry to hear about your grandma.

I did exactly the same @enaliba and when I first started I timed it so each run section was downhill and the walking back uphill. It was still running and it still worked in the end so stick to it.
You've got this @Camaramandy648 and I hope to catch you up soon2 -

Yes, me too! It still works!2 -
@mbaker566 No words, how terrible. Lots of hugs to you
@RunsOnEspresso Hugs for you as well..
To those who are hurting, injured, sick etc. So sorry and healing wishes coming your way.
Thanks for the thoughts on my foot/toes everyone. Yesterday I did go for a walk with a friend around the lake. It was actually nice to just have a pleasant walk. The toes felt ok, not great. I went home and did a whole set of massages, and today there is no pain at all. Tomorrow we shall see during my run. I'm a bit timid about it, frankly.

@katharmonic Wow. Inspiring for sure. I would never have thought to do that!
@quilteryoyo Great work!!
@Avidkeo I wish I could begin to love running in the rain

@mbaker566 biggest hugs. As @polskagirl said, let us help you back up. That's what we are here for. Just take the next step, and then one more. The rest will come. Kia kaha5

Morning all.
So crap sleep last night slbut still got up and did 5k. I'm building pretty quick atm, my "short run" has pretty much increased to 5k, from 3 in January. I keep thinking I should pull back but I'm running the best I ever have, currently injury free and am loving it. So will just keep doing what I'm doing. My longer runs are only 8k, with the occasional 10+ k thrown in when I can get it so its not like I'm doing massive extremes.
That said, newbies, don't do what I'm doing! Lol. I seem to have gotten into a run streak that's a self perpetuating machine... The more I run, the more I want to.
With all that, I'm seriously actually starting to contemplate a full marathon in July. If I were to, when would I need to start training? Or amping up the training? Going to have to look at some training plans I think.
I've only done one half though...

@Avidkeo oops hope that wasn't me! :-p Erm every novice plan I've seen was like 18 weeks, so if you're really thinking about that you should probably look like now! Hal Higdon's seem pretty sensible, and there's an app now that you can use to plot your plan with...
@mbaker566 hugs, all the hugs. Sometimes life really does suck.
I'm not managing to keep up with reading yet again, so hugs to those who need them and high fives to those who have earned them. In fact, hugs and high fives to everyone just because!
My race is in 12 days 13 hours 38 minutes (not that I just checked the website or anything!). For now, they say they're not cancelling it. My husband has spent the last three nights coughing all over me (yeah, the husband who banished me to the spare room if I get a cold.. *sigh*). There's a kid in my daughter's class at school who went to Italy at the weekend and is due back on Wednesday. So far there are no plans to ask her family to self-quarantine or get tested or anything. And my throat hurts today. *kitten*!

Kody update for those interested.
Recap: I took Kody on a 13 mile run Saturday on a dirt/gravel road. He came up limp in the final mile. I thought it was just a stone issue with his paw but he was limping quite a bit when we got home and soon I noticed some significant swelling behind his front leg, just above his paw.
From the location I suspected it was a tendon injury...perhaps a partial tear. Though his limping had decreased, it's still there and I wanted him checked out. My son took him to the vet today and after X-rays it was determined that it was not a bone break, nor was it a tumor of any sort. The vet suspects a soft tissue injury, tested his blood for something, then gave us some anti-inflammatory pills.
We are to limit his activity for 3 to 4 weeks, including making sure he's on a leash when we take him out so he can't run and keep him from going up or down stairs. After that I can slowly get him back into running.
It's all as I suspected but it's good to get it confirmed and now know how to take care of him going forward.
And with that, Kody has his first DNS as he won't be able to join me on my 8.5 mile trail race next weekend, which I specifically registered for because they allow dogs.20 -

Ok! I will, then. It was waaaay easier.
Unrelated, but where did the use of “*kitten*” originate? And does it stand in for all the good words?0 -
