@bearly63 thank you for your kind words about what i said to my kiddos - I never know if I’m getting it right. I don’t think any of us do....
@katharmonic you are amazing. I would have been so stricken with anxiety over the selling tactics that I’d have run frantically in the other direction as opposed to getting as much as I can out of the situation!
@LoveyChar @PastorVincent @Scott6255 @quilteryoyo @hamsterwheel6 thank you all for the encouragement! It means more than you know, especially when it is so hard to just get out the door.
@quilteryoyo way to go! I am impressed!!!! Your times are great! How do you do it?! My times are so terrible lately! I am proud of you!
@hamsterwheel6 i hope your toe feels better! My feet were hurting during my run yesterday - SO much - of course it was much later in the run and I don’t think there’s a shoe on the planet that could have saved me from eighteen miles pain - but I did think of you!
@shanaber yeah, i often wonder how the kids are going to make it to adulthood myself lol.
Definitely no run today. I had a very hard time falling asleep and staying asleep last night. My right knee is still today, but my hip doesn’t seem to be hurting as bad. More foam rolling and stretching...
I am not sure if i am going to work today - my son had a sore throat when i picked him up from his dad’s and this morning he says it is worse. I am going to take him to the doctor to find out if it is strep or anything else. I hope he’s not truly sick.
Anyway, you are all amazing and we are all hitting our goals and i am SO proud of us!6 -
@jele30 oh my goodness! A runner’s assessment that is more than just a shoe fitting?!?! That sounds amazing!
And that will be my internet research for today 😂3 -

Yeah, I am with you on this one! I would have fled!

01/03 5km
03/03 5km
07/03 5km
Total 15km of 80km for March
Unfortunately, this is me tapping out for March. The hip is definitely aggravated by the running and I need to get it sorted. The plan therefore is to not run at all for at least two weeks, faithfully do the stretches and strengthening exercises I've found on-line and reassess once the pain is gone. Once that happens, it's new shoes and start short runs again. In the meantime, walking and possibly some swimming to keep me from being completely sedentary and to aid with further weight loss. Boo.
Goals for the year:
1. Get back down to a decent running weight (currently set at 160lb)
2. Run a sub-60 minute 10K
3. Run at least 4 10K races
Current races planned:
14/06 Lincoln 10K
17/10 Autumn Richmond Riverside Run (10K)11 -
@Camaramandy648 So awesome! It's such a mind game! Doesn't matter how you get there, right? Way to go!
@quilteryoyo nice run! Very impressed with the pace and distance! 👍
@Avidkeo Running in the rain can be so peacefull, esp if its not windy. I love that you are in a grove to just go with it and have fun. It's so peaceful that way.
@PastorVincent Wow....you are salty! I assume that's why electrolyte replenishment is so important.
@hmmadpear Sorry to hear about your hip! I hope the rest solves the issue asap!
@jele30 sorry about your grandma. And that running assessment sounds great. I have thought of doing that. Now it may be a swimming assessment
@katharmonic Love that you did the Peloton! I have always thought that having a few exercise machines in airports is a great way to kill time and get your exercise in. I'd pay for that esp. when I am delayed. I go stir crazy in airports, although now they are getting quieter.

Woohoo long run day! I ran last week's route in reverse, trying to keep a relaxed pace. But since I woke up stressed and with tight shoulders & neck, for the first half of the run it was kind of like when you're trying to relax in the dentist's chair, and every time you forget about relaxing, you realize you tensed up again. At some point the relaxing won over and the rest of the run felt better
March goal 100 miles (stretch goal 200 km)
Upcoming races:
Mar. 22 - "Green Shoelaces" HM (Puławy, Poland)
As for what to do after a race, I agree with those that said it depends on the race, and listen to your body. For me, if the race is the equivalent of my current weekly speed or hill workout, I treat it like a hard workout and the next day is easy or a recovery day. If it's a longer race, especially if I'm really sore, I'll take more recovery day(s). Marathon though, is a completely different ballgame for me, and for that I follow Hal Higdon's post-marathon plan, which includes no running for about a week, followed by easy runs to build back up over several weeks.4 -

I'm off the wagon too and trying to hop back on. I can't shake my holiday depression.6 -
So, my ability to stay on pace for the 50 mile club lasted all of 1 day. Today was my first run since the first. Last week was one of those weeks where I had either limited time, or limited spoons, or both.... and decisions went towards other levels of adulting each time. Yesterday, was, as others have mentioned, gorgeous, and I was excited for an outdoor run. But I picked going fishing before running, and forgot running hydration systems.... and only brought the shoes I wore, and proceeded to fall in. (I’m just learning the fly fishing thing, over a life of spin fishing.... coordination is not my strong point)..... so.... no running....
today, I hoped gorgeous would last long enough for an outdoor run.... but the temp just kept falling instead of rising as the day went on. So, I planned for 2 miles, on the treadmill, plus squats.... but the run just felt good. Like even my walk intervals seemed slow. Therefore, I did a “long” run, and bales on squats. (I rarely need an excuse to skip the evil of squats.)
4.3 today = 7.3/ 50
50 mile club is still possible... but much less probable at this point.
The great thing about fishing is you can obtain food and bathe simultaneously.7 -
3/2 2.28 miles C25K Wk5Day1
3/5 2.8 miles C25K Wk5Day2
3/9 2.9 miles C25K Wk5Day2
I tried to plan my route to include more downhill on the running sections...feels like cheating but it made this attempt successful.
1. Run the month.
2. Loose 20 pounds in 2020.

Rather than feel like you all have to jump back onto a moving wagon, we'll stop the wagon and give you a hand up. This is hard stuff you're dealing with.10 -

I did not get a chance to post yesterday. I did read through though and liked and hugged lots of post. And I did get my long run of 7.6 miles in yesterday. It was an ok run. I was tired though. I had a hard time getting up and going because of daylight savings time. Then it was cloudy and windy so it wasn't a pretty run. It was mostly an uneventful run. I did keep my pace where I wanted it so I felt good about it. The first half of the run wasn't too bad and the second half was ok, but that was running into the 16 mph winds. It was 52°F starting out and got up to about 55°F by the end which isn't too bad, but the wind made it seem cooler starting out. I was glad for the sleeves since it is easy to start out with them and take them off if needed. Tomorrow morning should be 51°F with no wind, so I am really looking forward to that. My plan calls for 5 miles. Hopefully it will be a good run.
@quilteryoyo Congrats on your distance PR!
@Camaramandy648 Great job on the 18 miler! I hope you son isn't too sick.
@hamsterwheel6 I hope that you can get a handle on the toe pain before the HM.
@hmaddpear Sorry aobut your hip. I hope you are feeling better soon.
@jele30 Sorry to hear about your grandma.
@mbaker566 Son't know what to say, but sending hugs.

5/16/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon7 -
I did exactly the same @enaliba and when I first started I timed it so each run section was downhill and the walking back uphill. It was still running and it still worked in the end so stick to it.
You've got this @Camaramandy648 and I hope to catch you up soon2 -

Yes, me too! It still works!2 -
@mbaker566 No words, how terrible. Lots of hugs to you
@RunsOnEspresso Hugs for you as well..
To those who are hurting, injured, sick etc. So sorry and healing wishes coming your way.
Thanks for the thoughts on my foot/toes everyone. Yesterday I did go for a walk with a friend around the lake. It was actually nice to just have a pleasant walk. The toes felt ok, not great. I went home and did a whole set of massages, and today there is no pain at all. Tomorrow we shall see during my run. I'm a bit timid about it, frankly.

@katharmonic Wow. Inspiring for sure. I would never have thought to do that!
@quilteryoyo Great work!!
@Avidkeo I wish I could begin to love running in the rain

11.5 miles today. Nothing interesting or profound to report.

@mbaker566 biggest hugs. As @polskagirl said, let us help you back up. That's what we are here for. Just take the next step, and then one more. The rest will come. Kia kaha5

Morning all.
So crap sleep last night slbut still got up and did 5k. I'm building pretty quick atm, my "short run" has pretty much increased to 5k, from 3 in January. I keep thinking I should pull back but I'm running the best I ever have, currently injury free and am loving it. So will just keep doing what I'm doing. My longer runs are only 8k, with the occasional 10+ k thrown in when I can get it so its not like I'm doing massive extremes.
That said, newbies, don't do what I'm doing! Lol. I seem to have gotten into a run streak that's a self perpetuating machine... The more I run, the more I want to.
With all that, I'm seriously actually starting to contemplate a full marathon in July. If I were to, when would I need to start training? Or amping up the training? Going to have to look at some training plans I think.
I've only done one half though...

@Avidkeo oops hope that wasn't me! :-p Erm every novice plan I've seen was like 18 weeks, so if you're really thinking about that you should probably look like now! Hal Higdon's seem pretty sensible, and there's an app now that you can use to plot your plan with...
@mbaker566 hugs, all the hugs. Sometimes life really does suck.
I'm not managing to keep up with reading yet again, so hugs to those who need them and high fives to those who have earned them. In fact, hugs and high fives to everyone just because!
My race is in 12 days 13 hours 38 minutes (not that I just checked the website or anything!). For now, they say they're not cancelling it. My husband has spent the last three nights coughing all over me (yeah, the husband who banished me to the spare room if I get a cold.. *sigh*). There's a kid in my daughter's class at school who went to Italy at the weekend and is due back on Wednesday. So far there are no plans to ask her family to self-quarantine or get tested or anything. And my throat hurts today. *kitten*!

Kody update for those interested.
Recap: I took Kody on a 13 mile run Saturday on a dirt/gravel road. He came up limp in the final mile. I thought it was just a stone issue with his paw but he was limping quite a bit when we got home and soon I noticed some significant swelling behind his front leg, just above his paw.
From the location I suspected it was a tendon injury...perhaps a partial tear. Though his limping had decreased, it's still there and I wanted him checked out. My son took him to the vet today and after X-rays it was determined that it was not a bone break, nor was it a tumor of any sort. The vet suspects a soft tissue injury, tested his blood for something, then gave us some anti-inflammatory pills.
We are to limit his activity for 3 to 4 weeks, including making sure he's on a leash when we take him out so he can't run and keep him from going up or down stairs. After that I can slowly get him back into running.
It's all as I suspected but it's good to get it confirmed and now know how to take care of him going forward.
And with that, Kody has his first DNS as he won't be able to join me on my 8.5 mile trail race next weekend, which I specifically registered for because they allow dogs.20 -

Ok! I will, then. It was waaaay easier.
Unrelated, but where did the use of “*kitten*” originate? And does it stand in for all the good words?0 -
