Hi everyone. I've been using MFP for years, and had good success in the past, but after losing 30 lbs. in 2017 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March 2018. Through surgeries and chemo in 2018, I put all that weight back on, plus some. Now I'm almost finished with "maintenance drug" treatments (end of April - woohoo!!). I'm feeling pretty good, eating well, exercising and working on losing again. My goal is to get out of the 200 club! Just reading through posts in this group has helped shift my perspective this morning, so thank you all for sharing your stories, struggles, and smiles. My info:
SW: 3/14/19 - 244
CW: 3/11/20 - 230.8
GW: 160-170
Goal for March 2020: 2259 -
Height 5' 11"
SW: 299.8 (1/1/20)
CW 2/29: 283.8
Total loss: -13.6lbs
Adjusted March GW: 280
3/4: 285.8
3/11: 286.2
3/18:
3/25:
3/31
GW: 199
Feb Goals:
1. Cardio 4X/week for minimum 15 min I was able to do 3.5 workouts last week. I am going to avoid the gym for now and workout at home/in my neighborhood instead for now, still the same goal
2. Weights 4X/week I did 3 days of weights, felt nice and sore. Gonna focus on exercises where I can use my body weight for now until I return to the gym
2. Eat under 1800 calories (logged into MFP) The weekend was not great but I did log it even when I went over
I'm not gonna lie guys, I am so distracted with the Coronavirus. I've already decided to avoid to gym for now. I'm not worried about my personal health but understand that I'm a vector for transmission so avoiding others who may transmit it to me is my responsibility so I don't then infect others. Our schools are still open but we has a meeting to discuss emergency plans and they told us to prepare 2 weeks worth of work in case school does shut down. I was planning to go to Vegas next week for the March Madness tournament and now those plans are canceled (they haven't canceled the tournament yet however, probably won't but may play with no fans). I'm not even mad, I get it. So for my workouts, I plan on walking/jogging for 30 min and then doing some body weight exercises like push-ups, squats, lunges, etc. Gonna ask the PE teacher for some recommendations lol
This week I pretty much stayed the same with a small 0.4 gain. I feel super bloated and have a lot of gas (sorry if TMI) so I'm like this makes sense, that 0.4 is probably mostly bloat. March is starting off very slow but I am still going to do my part. I adjusted my goal to be attainable, anything under 280.9 would be nice. Its the weekends that are still difficult, need to bet better with planning my meals then. Party Saturday with a taco lady, thinking of taking salad mix and making myself a taco salad. Next week I will report a loss *speaking it into existence*11 -
@Savannah80 I! LOVE! THE! PHOTOS! I’m so so proud of you!!1

Just a couple of quick comments for maybe the last few days or so of posts. It’s been a busy March so far!
I’ve personally been feeling down. I had jury duty this Monday. Even though I did not get picked, I was on the selection panel for a case that was triggering for me. Definitely put me in a mood Monday night and yesterday, and only a bit today. I don’t think I’ve been eating any more than usual because of it. However, the scale is being very stubborn, and I wonder if I will achieve my goal at this point. I knew I’d stall eventually, though. I’m glad I have the 10-miler to keep me on track with the plan!
@bluffgirl67 – sending good vibes to you and your Momma today!
@lbostic89 – sorry for your loss. Glad your managers could help with the time to go to the service.
@sharpdust – You’re so lucky you get to spend so much time with your family. Also, I’m still going to the gym, but keep in mind I also take public transportation into the city every day. I think if I’m going to get something it’s more likely I’ll get it riding the train than going to the gym. Especially because I’ve always brought my own wipes to the gym and I clean the machines before and after I use them.
@shorepine – probably harder to lose weight because you’re older. I feel your pain, and it’s why any loss is a good one! You are doing well this month so far. I also have ambivalent feelings about the treadmill, though I acknowledge that there are times that the treadmill has helped my training. Before I forget, good luck on the Shamrock Run 5K!
@CupcakeCrusoe - glad you got your meds. Here’s hoping you’ll be off of them soon!
@Savannah80 – wow, incredible to finish the half with an injury! I hope you are returning to normal. Don’t worry about those pictures - you look great, especially with the smile at the finish line!
@mmccloy12 – holy cow re: alcohol. I’ve rarely imbibed this year, and when I have I’d have put any weight gain down to high-sodium restaurant food, not specifically to alcohol intake.
@speyerj and @torihudson6 – looking great in the new profile pictures! Also, happy birthday, @torihudson6!🎁🎈
@aliciap0116 – welcome back, so happy to hear you had a good time. Considering that you had been flying, a 1-lb gain for the week is pretty good. I’ve heard stories where people have gained 5-10 pounds after flying!

I HATE.
Lots of things and people but I'm just generally full of hate right now and it's toxic. A poison in my soul.
I feel sick. I want to cry.
I'm taking a break for a bit. Hugs to you all.21 -
@kathrynegrady I read that potassium and magnesium counteract sodium. So you can try to eat foods high in those (or try supplements) as well as try to lower your intake. Btw, I always study restaurant menus in advance, too! I just like to be prepared, lol. Partly for nutritional calculations and partly bc I’m vegetarian, so I’ll know if I’ll have anything to eat!
@jguldi11 I’m sorry you’ve been sick! I’ve sent you a message.
@JackyJax88 There’s definitely an obesity cycle in my family, too! I guess I haven’t consciously thought of it that way, but everyone in my family has become obese, except my (half) sister, who managed to eventually lose the weight after becoming diabetic, and my birth father, who has done construction all his life, and has maintained his physique that way. Luckily, I don’t have any health issues from my weight, and I don’t want any!
@mmdeveau I’m sorry to hear about your experience with jury duty. It must have been sucky to be stuck there while being reminded of your own thing.
Well, coronavirus just hit Virginia Beach (at least, we just became aware that it hit). We have a major airport and a cruise port. A couple tested positive after cruising to Egypt. Because it’s in my area, I won’t be travelling--even outside my local metropolis. Here is a link describing the symptoms (though I’m sure you’ve all read them): https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/11/health/coronavirus-cold-allergies-flu-difference-symptoms-wellness-trnd/index.html
I've been having a difficult time motivating myself to do much. I'm not eating all of my calories and my sleep cycle is off right now. I don't work (I'm living on veteran's disability), so I'm on the couch all day. I'm lonely and bored. I'm finding it difficult to even shower or fold clothes (or wash the rest of the pile). *sigh
I AM supposed to start school soon, which will give me something to do. But it's online, so I'll still be on the couch. I want off the couch! Everyone else is at work all day.
Oh, and I think I have a UTI. Going to get lab work to tomorrow to check that out ...
On the upside: My weight has gone down this week. I joined a three-phase challenge that should have me at 112 lbs by October. And I'm looking forward to a plant-based cooking class with my mom tomorrow night! I would like to take up yoga in the next couple of months … can anyone recommend a mat the cat won’t (can’t) tear up?

@JackyJax88, welcome! Love all the goals.
@Savannah80, you look like amazing! I am so jealous. And the fact that you kept going when you wanted to stop? Inspirational!
@CupcakeCrusoe, thank you!! I do feel like a badass when I'm kickboxing, it is such a powerful feeling. Hit those weights! You'll feel great after.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971, hope everything you wanted to accomplish today gets done!
@speyerj, I'm glad you're enjoying it!
@shorepine, it took me a looooong time to adopt this attitude, had this been even 6 months ago I would be beating myself up endlessly, but what I learned is that beating myself up does nothing for moving forward. I just have to acknowledge what happened and learn from it. And even if you did not have as big of a loss as you wanted, the fact that you are feeling fit is great, too! I despise clothes shopping, too, it is just hard.
@aliciap0116, glad you enjoyed your trip! The gain is sure to fall off within the next few days. And thank you!
@MuttiNM, great loss and great job killing your goals! I hope spring is on the way, I've seen a few Robins, too.
@erhan111, welcome! Glad to hear that you are feeling better as well.
@sharpdust, I am in the same boat as you, I do not want to give it to anyone I care about or even a stranger. I hope the stress eases for you soon. My state is beginning to close schools and it is starting to become more scary as cases pop up. I also love speaking things into existence, it gives me accountability.
@mmdeveau, thank you and I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you it passes soon, you can do this.
@Terytha, hugs to you.
@chelleedub, I don't have any advice about the yoga mat, but I hope you start feeling better soon! I would recommend going out for fresh air when exercising, but with the virus in town, you probably are trying to avoid that. We are always here for a chat, too!
I had a salad for dinner tonight! Even though I despretely wanted to get Chipotle, I tried to spice my salad up with some cheese, croutons, cucumber, and jalapenos! The extra kick was nice. Happy Wednesday to everyone7 -
Hey All!
Meh... I went waaaay over my calories today. Mostly because I wasted a lot of them. For instance... I ate 3 dates... THREE... and that was 210 calories 😤... how dare they be so good and cost me so much?!?!? Then I had a large order of Chick Fil A waffle fries. And then I couldn’t stop eating popcorn... I was a mess today. Uggghhh I can’t wait until I can pay for my gym membership. But it is what it is and we move on to tomorrow. I just have to get better at having my meals prepared so I don’t detour.
@Savannah80 you look so cute! The last picture is the best one... you look so happy and accomplished
@TuesdayLucero I completely understand. Vacation is meant for relaxation and fun. Maybe you can find some party games that include a bit more activity? I’m only bringing up ideas because I know I’ll be facing the same problem this summer lol.
@chelleedub oh cool! Thanks for the info. I’ll definitely look into it. I’m sorry you’re so down! Yoga might be perfect for you, it gets the nervous system going which can help with low mood. As far as mats go... they have towel mats. That might be best because all others are made from material that cats can scratch (even the cork ones). You could get a carrying bag though and keep it rolled up and inside the bag when not in use, that way you can use any mat.
@Terytha 😔 I’m sorry things are tough right now. I definitely understand the feeling. I hope that things turn around soon for you but take all the time off you need. Self care is top priority ❤️
I’m off to wallow in my bloated popcorn belly for a while... toodles😊8 -

This happened to me too. The next time I got a jury summons after that I wrote a letter about how the way they chose juries was a trigger for me and made me sick. They basically interrogate you in public about your experience. After the first time or two I said if you want to ask me these questions I want to have more privacy and at least they cleared the courtroom of all but essential persons. The thing is that they aren't going to choose me anyway since they think you are biased because of your experience but I do not feel I am. Why go through this when they aren't going to use you on a jury. Now I do not get jury summons. It is sort of sad since I am interested in the criminal justice systems. I have both criminal and civil law experiences that keeps me from being chosen.
After that time on the jury pool ( 1 week at least) I was sad and sick for a few weeks. I send hugs to you.6 -
@jguidi11 Take good care and I hope you are feeling better now.
@lbostic89 I am glad you get to go to your cousin’s funeral. I work for a Tribal government and they respect family relationships. Their definition of family for family leave is very extensive. They also have leave for funeral participation. Many tribal members sing or play at funerals. I am not a member but employees (team members) get many benefits. I am glad you have such good employers.
@shorepine I decided since I am over 60 with the Corona virus outbreak in Seattle area and with the time change I was going to use comptime on Tuesday and Thursday to get a touch more sleep. Well it didn’t work. I got a head cold last night. Two people were late Monday in my department. That wasn’t your last chance. Maybe concentrating on maintaining weight on purose will give your body a rest and reset the weight. It will be a good lesson on what is your true TDEE and what will be a health deficit for you. Look at @Brownsugar’s quote about sustainable weight loss. You are so close to onderland and you made progress good weigh-in.
@twosillykittens who interrupt me while I am reading your posts. I am being good and drinking ice water while I read them and I look over and one kitten is sipping my water and just discovering ice. I think cats are really scientists in a previous life.
@AlexandraFindsHerself I am doing today what you did Monday. I hope your week is going well.
@Savannah80 I really monitor my cravings for favorite foods that I normally stay away from. Before they get the best of me I have a small break and have one of the smallest size package of one thing. I focus on my weekly deficit on those weeks not my daily one for that one day. If I am feeling the least bit deprived I know that isn’t going to be sustainable to ignore that. Typically it is corn nuts for salty treats and licorice for sweet. Yes I know I am weird. But when you have to limit your treats you need to pick your favorites. This typically happens every 3-4 weeks but sometimes I go longer without feeling deprived. My mother never let us have sweets except my Dad made pancakes or waffles on the weekends. We did have a bowl of fruit. Thanks for sharing your marathon pictures. Congrats!
@TuesdayLucero it is important to learn how to maintain both for a rest from a deficit, to reset our bodies to out current weights which makes it easier to lose if we have plateaued and for when we hit our goal weights. It is so much better than regaining. We have a family camping trip every summer too usually in late July or August since we are in the northwest. Luckily we do something active each day and my family is starting to eat more healthy since as we get older it is hard to keep weight healthy. However even healthy chips have calories.
@skierzjes yes keep on keepin on.
@mmccloy12 one age related thing for me is that it doesn’t take as much alcohol to feel it so I usually have to stay at only one drink. I had a margarita on my birthday last Friday. I am not around those who drink much so it is easy for me. You will find what works best for you.
@JackyJax88 I think getting to your pre pregnancy weight is a good goal and focusing on healthy eating and exercising habits.
@alicia0116 Dancing so counts! I was dancing when I threw my knee out and found out I had arthritis. So now when I dance I am more careful but I should do more of it than I do.
@erthan111 I am so glad you have gotten through this challenging time and are able and willing to go back into healthy eating exercise and weight loss.
@torihudson6 good job with the healthy salad!

Hello all, and on a Wednesday! I usually can't get on here in the middle of the week, but today I am home sick. It is only a head cold but I am doing what has been recommended to stay home when sick.
Weight wise I am keeping low but then this morning I got to sleep in and had breakfast late so the longer time fasting probably helped and the extra sleep. I won't probably make it to the gym for Aquafit since I don't want to infect anyone. However it is only a head cold. It might be even allergies to our new kittens.
I am definitely being affected by the coronavirus. My son calls every night telling me not to go to work or the gym. He wants us to go stock up on supplies and just stay home all the time. My husband and I are pretty healthy but are in our 60's. Our work places and we are following all the recommendations. I would avoid the gym if there were a crowd there but there isn't and we are very cautious keeping social distancing. 8-10 of us have the pool to ourselves and we take showers before and after. We are going to have a new teacher and the rumor is they will be doing aquazumba. So fun. With arthritis in my knee this is the best way to exercise for me.
My husband can work at home but not all the time. My work doesn't have that capability yet. But I can bring things home to work on sometimes. I am in fact a certified hand washer (care giver from a past job). All our large meetings are cancelled. I do not want to jeopardize my job. I asked to use up all my comptime and come in late 2 days a week. I work night meetings periodically so the comptime has been adding up and I need to use it anyway. I find if I have enough sleep I don't usually get sick.
The issue is the rate of growth of this outbreak. It is growing at a rate that is beyond a linear rate. So it isn't what the situation appears to be at the present time but what it will be in the near future that we all need to consider particularly in areas where there are more than a case or 2. I am not sure I am able to conceive and react to that.
Hope we have a good rest of the week.6 -
I told my ex that I'd have groceries etc. delivered to him if the coronavirus goes epidemic. I still care about him, and he has COPD and CHF, and diabetes, so his kidneys are already under a lot of stress. Boyfriend is working from home next week. That'll help with us finding a house, since we're a one-car family, and if I find one I like, I can have him back there in the afternoon to see it, and we can get it fast.
I'm feeling like I'm doing way better on balancing work and rest today so I don't absolutely exhaust myself. That's a big positive for me.
Tomorrow I'm finally having my thyroid biopsied. It'll be good to know what's going on in there. And I have a half a roast chicken and a pan of stuffing to put in the oven, and we will be able to eat pretty much as soon as we get home, which is going to be good.8 -
@kathrynegrady we all have those days! You posted here after and owned it, which is really powerful. Put it behind you and start tomorrow fresh. They say to ask yourself what you didn’t want to think about feel when you have a day like that. It doesn’t always work for me but it could be helpful!
@KeriA I’m sorry you’re not feeling well and feeling the stress of the coronavirus - I know many of us are touched by it. Several families at my son’s school have been quarantined and I am expecting school with close next week. I think it’s for the best to stop the spread. Before we left for our trip I bought what I could in terms of paper towels, TP, cleaning supplies, canned beans, pasta, rice, etc. - all stuff that would keep. I was nervous something would happen while we were gone and that we would be unprepared. My husband thinks i am crazy and wants to go to a St Patty’s day party on Saturday since there are fewer than 20 cases in our DC/MD/VA area. That seems foolish to me right now; I know we all have circles we operate in for work and school right now but why widen that net for unnecessary social events? Even if we are not at high risk ourselves, others are and I feel we should do our part.3 -

Hello all, hugs to those doing it tough this month. I'm staying with my parents so i don't have too much control over what i'm eating, eating out a lot, but they're in spain so it's main meal at lunch, trying to eat very small meal breakfast and evening and keep alcohol to one glass at lunch. The good thing is they don't snack so i can't either! Hoping to get home next week without gaining weight.7

Hi everyone!
Hugs to all that need it and well done to all of you who are having a good month.
I treated myself to a massage yesterday afternoon (only because I was gifted a voucher) and it was so good! In fact I rebooked for next month.
Have a great weekend everyone!5 -
Despite a horrible night (discovered theoretically sober partner was drunk to the point of incoherence when I came up to go to bed), and a medical procedure today and two meals out... I brought it in just under my calorie limit. And I did not have a shake despite part of me wanting one very badly. (Which is just as well as they are 800 calories each.)
I will be going to bed on time tonight, that's for sure.10
