Machka – Congratulations on completing the course. You’re almost there! Funny about cleaning your work office area. When I worked for a rather fast-growing software company I was move 14 times in a year and a half. I learned to keep it light including printed paper. I could pack my desk and fit it in to one standard paper box.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.
SuziQ – SFL
In my previous job I moved around a lot so I was able to do the box thing too ... but here, I've stayed put! I think this is the longest I've been in one office location in my life.
So, very gradually, things have accumulated.
The most difficult thing to bring home will be my plant. It has grown!!

Good evening all:
Skimmed through and caught up. This week was brutal. Spent tons of time figuring out how to provide necessary public services during a pandemic. Seems like we get one thing figured out, things change, go to next plan. I think we are as prepared as we can be. Ordered a couple of necessary things. Will probably be having customers do everything on line or by mail. Don't like not having people come in, but also have to take steps we can to protect staff so they are here to provide services (things have to be done by computers at work for the most part). We don't yet have a confirmed case of Covid-19 in our county, but expecting it at any minute since tests are being administered.
Spent day deep cleaning house and mentally working through couple of other parts of plan. Will drive down to briefly attend grandson's 8th birthday party. May not stay the whole time (since I am in the high risk category I am trying to be sensible). Also, while I can work from home I think it important for me to be present at work if staff has to be. It will be good to see them (haven't connected since Christmas). Did run to store to get b-day present (realized I forgot card, but I don't think he will mind). Step son's b-day is this week also so I will give him a check and I am sure he will forgive me the card. May stop in store quickly to see if they have cheese ball he is fond of.
Well, off to get some sleep. Want to make sure I keep eating right, exercising and resting, not to mention hand washing! Did do a bit of stress eating Friday, but back on track today. Will not use pandemic as an excuse to lose ground!
Be cautious but don't panic.

Hi Gals,
Karen in Vir. – hope the time with your grandson went better than expected
Travels - hugs to all who have had to cancel; it is always a bit hard to give up something you were looking forward too.
Terri – your watercolor is amazing!
KJ – I love your airport people watching commentary!
Allie – good job to just leave, this is a work chapter that is good to leave behind.
So an interesting week, the camp I work for provides outdoor science camp for 4,5,6th graders (about 9-11 year olds) well the schools are being closed so they are cancelling their camp reservations. And that runs downhill, no camp monies no staff needed (or at least less staff needed) They are not laying us off but giving us a few unpaid days each week and having us work on other projects around camp. So Wednesday is a work in the garden day – there will be 7 of us for most of the day. That’s nice. At this point we are off for most of the next 2 weeks. It’s a tough thing for all of us. It is also a very quiet time in the embroidery world. I spent some of today working on an embroidery newsletter, an email to some garden club members to see if anyone needed embroidery and some canning – I turned a frozen chicken carcass into broth and froze my jars of broth, and made up 2 batches of marmalade from oranges and grapefruit I was given.

Heather: I hope the cruise ship line will return your deposit. :flowerforyou:
Mary from MN/AZ: Self sabotage is something many people engage in at times. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Just get back to the basics and be patient. I am also in this situation and in the process of shedding pounds that sneaked back in. I use a food scale and measured scoops to control my portions. CICO=Calories In/Calories Out. Slow and steady wins the race. Unfortunately, pounds don't disappear as fast as we'd like. :ohwell:
Michele: Thanks for the congrats! We hope to have a family gathering with our children and grandchildren this summer. We’ll celebrate our anniversary and everyone’s birthday. At this point it is not as settled as we’d imagined it would be. Praying it can happen.
Tere: Your governor has made a wise decision! Stay safe. :flowerforyou:
Debbie in VA: My son is in the military. He and family are currently living on base. I have doubts that he’ll need to telecommute, and hope they may be able to do all of their work on base for the next while. That may be wishful thinking on my part. I haven’t heard as yet.
Shopping is a huge pain in this town. All the stores were out of TP for a few days because of people panic buying. I’ve been successful at finding a package of TP and some delicious food at the local stores. There was a mishap in the grocery store parking lot several days ago and things have been stressful for me. I backed into the aisle and another person backed in at the same time from the row opposite mine. There is damage to my rear bumper and tail lights. I went straight to my auto insurance person and things are going forward as they should. I’ve heard that the other party in the grocery store parking lot fender bender is going to pay 50-50 toward my car repairs. Keeping my fingers crossed that this happens.
I know I’m pages behind. I’ll try to post again tomorrow.

So here's what I'm working on at home ...
My first assignment for one of my classes asks us to clarify the definitions of 'utopian' and 'dystopian' and use them to describe the impacts of social media on humanity.
We have to use research to do this, all appropriately cited of course so I won't be using any of your comments ... but particularly in light of current issues, what are your thoughts?
Does social media have a 'utopian' impact on humanity or a 'dystopian' impact?
I may present the topic of my second assignment on Monday.

I had a good laugh with my brother today. I said we made the mistake of not taking the hoard of toliet paper and paper towels my mom used to store in her basement. We would both be rich.
Turns out he and my DSIL were coming back from Florida. My DSIL is involved in national swim teams. Everything was cancelled. They decided rather than fly back they chose to drive. DSIL said the recommendation is those of us over 60 should not be in crowds over 10. Hard to do even now at an airport.
The toilet paper comment came up becasue my brother couldn't figure out why there was no TP in the rest stops. People are stealing them. Yes we now know what it most importnant to people in an emergency toilet paper.
I have been on FACEBOOK more today because I now have more time and there were some funny odes to toilet paper. One of my favorites was here is your Christmas present and it was rolls of toliet paper wrapped in Christmas paper.
I know this is a hard time, so I really did appreciate those who could add some humor.
Hugs to all...

I do want to share some good news too. DS son called me from the hospital today. He has not been able to have a reasonable converstation with me since November 19. I cried. What he has suffered in the last twelve years with his illness is a testament to what we can survive. He asked me if I have ever been tortured. I reponded yes. What I didn't say to him at the time because he was not in a place to understand. Watching what happened to him was torture. The fact he still has faith after everything he has been through humbles me.
So yes I do understand how an illness can be a marathon and not a sprint. So yes I know these are unsettling times.
Yes, we will grow through this.

It's just been announced that there's a good chance my nose repair (severely deviated septum) and my husband's hernia repair may have to wait.
I do understand and I have been breathing with one nostril for most of my life.
Which reminds me, I read something about the symptoms of COVID-19 which said that you'll feel like you can't breathe and are drowning and I had to laugh. That's me with every single cold since I can remember. Everyone else is there at work with a small case of the "the sniffles" and I'm there wheezing and gasping for air, blowing my nose, hacking up gunk, taking handfuls of medication to try to open a small air passageway somewhere.
I was hoping to get my deviated septum fixed so I could breathe during my next cold, but ... it'll happen later.

I admit, I've been skimming over most of the posts about this virus. The answer to my question was probably somewhere in them
How long can the virus live on a non-human (like a doorknob or shipping container?)

Hi all, ventured out shopping and got a stock up of our emergency food kit.
In NZ we are meant to have enough for the household for 21 days with little cooking facilities - in our case we have bottled gas so better off than many. This is in case of a big alpine fault rupture (a mega earthquake).
We probably keep a reasonable stock for 10 days but now have closer to the 21.
I want at everyone else's dinner time, and only missed a few list items...but flour was scarce.
We had fun at a bowls tournament out at one of the peninsula settlements and I got lots of them used to the idea of elbow bumping rather than shaking hands. It will be interesting to see if the lady's tournament are OK about it on Tuesday - they are a bit more formal.
I've managed to keep on task over the weekend with food which is great. Need to put more effort into exercise!4 -
Hope everyone is healthy, happy, and in harmony with themselves.
Lanette – It is hard for me to understand because we can glean 6 feet from each other. I am guessing it is because once picked everything has to be gone through and then delivered which will cause closer contact?? All of the other volunteer events I was looking forward to have been cancelled so I was going to sign up for additional gleanings. I will see what the final decision is this week.
Michelle – My mother was on Medicare and her doctor was able to get exceptions for her. Your doctor will have to be diligent with his/her communications. My mother had many digestive issues and they found she could only tolerate a prescription-form of Ensure. After filling out the forms and being denied the doctor contacted them again and was able to get it cleared. But, the doctor must be persistent, if initially denied.
Sue in WA – What a beautiful homestead. And, thank you for the picture of my absolute favorite flower – the daffodil.
Ginny – I cannot imagine the planning going on for all public services.
Kim – Sorry to hear about the camp shortening hours. I am feeling bad for all of the parents out there – especially if they cannot telework.
Margaret – I also checked FB yesterday. I saw the gift-wrapped toilet paper. There was also a meme with the title, “Jewelry to Remember 2020” fashioned like the newspaper ads. In the meme there was a pair of earrings with little rolls of toilet paper made out of small pearls. It made me laugh. I am so glad you were able to speak to your son.
Luci – Sorry to hear about your losses. Virtual hug back to you!
Kiwi – Even elbow bumping is a little unsafe considering they are telling people to cough and sneeze in to their elbow if a tissue is not available. We have been using the Namaste bow. Some have been using foot bumps.
It is off to the races for me. I need to get my meals planned for the week. I have not been making the healthiest choices over the past few weeks. I have been choosing convenience over planning and executing decent meals. And, even though we have better frozen/prepared food choices most are still not as good as making things for ourselves.
Big hugs to all – SuziQ – SFL
