Just watched an interview with someone who is directly involved with working on a vaccine for Covid-19. He was an American being interviewd by a British Journalist. He said we need to learn from the Chinese and those and Singapore and follow their lead in trying to slow this illness down. There was one case at the end of December now it is spread worldwide. He stressed this illness will not totally go away anytime soon. We need to buy time so a vaccine can be found.

Seeing how China shut down and now Italy. It does give us time to consider what we can do to prepare without panicing. In some ways it is like preparing for a natural disaster. You get yourself as prepared as you can and pray that disaster doesn't hit you. At least if it does and you are prepared you are in a better postion to do damage control.

If they find you have been exposed it is important to quarantine yourself for 14 days. Hence why it is important to have supplies ready.

The U.S. does not have the beds to take care of those who may be come serouily ill from this illness. We need to work together and do what we can do to stay healthly so we do not overburden the health care system.

Staying home when sick is important. So Heather you are doing the right thing in staying home.

Watch out for scammers that promise cures, vaccines, and supplies like masks. Right now their is no cure and no vaccine. Someone trying to sell you a mask on line is probably a scammer.

It is true for most it will be milder. Who that 15% that will get hit hard is still unknown. It is that 15% we all need to work together to protect. For those of us over 60 we are more vulnerable. It is recommended we try to avoid crowds.

They also interviewed a younger man who worked in the health system who was in ICU. He said it hit him fast just like the flu can. Younger people can also get hit hard, too.

Having survived the Swine Flu I do take this very serioulsly.

    - did they say that after 14 days of quarantine, you can consider yourself immune and go out into the public places and not worry about it anymore? It gets confusing - the folks who were "exposed" at CPAC and showing no symptoms... so were they really exposed just because they shook hands or were in the same room with the sick person?

The 14 days is if you've been exposed. It's like measles ... if you've been exposed, you'll show symptoms within 14 days. If you don't show symptoms, you didn't catch it.

However, you're certainly not immune ... it just means you were lucky that time. You could walk out on Day 15, be exposed again, and you're back into a 14-day quarantine ... and that time you might get it. Or maybe not, and a few days later, you could be exposed again and back into another 14-day quarantine. Over and over until this thing has run its course.

Saw a news post showed 3 Women in Australia 🇦🇺 fighting over toilet paper the management had to step in call the cops 👮.
    Amber Tx

It's funny because they restock the shelves about 6 pm each evening. We went into a supermarket at about 7 pm last Thursday, selected our choice of many packages of toilet paper, got some chocolate eggs and left. Place was virtually empty but lots of food and supplies on the shelves.

    Yes, and regarding supplies ...

For the past 2 years, each time I have ordered groceries to be delivered, I've ordered slightly more than we need. That way, when life has gotten busy and I haven't been able to place an order one week, we've got enough to cover it.

So we could probably go 14 days without needing to order groceries.

But last week, I ordered double. And then, when I placed my order this week, I ordered the usual plus slightly more. I figure we'd be fine for at least 3 weeks if not a solid month.

And I ordered a lot of things like $1 packages of quick oats and $1 packages of ramen noodles. Maybe not the most nutritious but inexpensive + they'll keep + they work well as fillers. A package of ramen noodles + some frozen veggies and a small tin of chicken flakes = lunch! :)

However, I'll add that I went for medication first. When everyone was clearing the shelves of toilet paper (not realising it gets restocked daily), I hit the chemist.

I've got COVID-19 HQ just behind me now. They're setting up.

Get to do: BB&B, Post Office, BiMart, Library, Farmer’s Market, Grocery Outlet, invest 10 mins cleaning Guest Bth, carry over 10 m ins cleaning Living Rm & Master Bth, dog group, Lenten soup supper and service, board meeting minutes, bake something for Joe, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
No 10 mins cleaning rooms, nor dog walk/picnic with Joe today. Instead he helped me tackle Aunt Elsie’s 1952 Wedgewood stove. We had it converted to propane before moving here. It’s been sitting in a series of garages for years, dusty, rusty, greasy, hairy. Estimate needs another 2 hrs cleaning, then test to see if it will light, then 2 hrs sanding and cleaning again, then some painting when the weather warms. A lot of work for the perfect cookie cooker. [sigh]

Just skimming, but Lanette’s “…keep us out of the woods” made me laugh!
Rita fingers X’d for favorable test results.
Kylia you’re right, it’s only your attitude that you can change. No suggestions spring to mind of how to flip the script with your MIL and your SIL, maybe KJ or NYKaren or others here have inspirations. Good luck!
Debby will add your boss to my prayer list. I could never have quit on my own, had to get pneumonia and nearly die. Confound those who knew how addictive nicotine is and continued to market those products.
Welcome flanchick, agree that while activity is essential for health, it is what we put in our mouths that shows on the scale.

Good morning, gals. This morning I'm venturing out to the mall to get my usual weekly groceries. Wish me luck.

I have a slight Birthday bulge form the celebration on Sunday, but that's understandable since most of the food was from M&S rather than homecooked as it would normally be. I was way under Calories due to all the running about, but too much sodium/sugar, which usually takes several days to leave the body. Can't complain, as I was at home, and didn't have to indulge.

Gotta dash. Back later. I have no other outside activities today.

It's a beautiful sunny day, so will get DH to drop me off on the way home for a walk in the sunshine.
    Lanette said:
According to the CDC, older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions like heart, lung or kidney disease are at a higher risk of serious illness if they contract the COVID-19 virus. This means that most people with Medicare are at a higher risk.

Your health, safety, and welfare is our highest priority. In addition to practicing good everyday prevention through things such as hand washing and avoiding touching your face, the CDC says there is more you can do to take precautions against COVID-19 and reduce your risk of exposure:

Avoid crowds, especially in poorly ventilated spaces with limited air circulation.
Defer all cruise ship travel worldwide, particularly if you also have underlying health issues.
Avoid situations that put you at increased risk, including non-essential travel such as long plane trips.

So really no change to our normal cocooning schedule.

Lanette: Thanks for these guidelines. Good advice all times.

    Morning ladies
Thought I had almost caught up up but somehow I'm 6 pages behind.

Going for afternoon tea today with the Ladies Who group, I'm a little nervous, it's a smallish group this time but I only know one of them slightly. I've made it a goal for the year to attend more outings without my good friend Jean, and I'm better with smaller groups, so I'll take a deep breath and enjoy it!!

Mum feeling a little better this morning, I've said I'll take her for an afternoon soon, I think she'll enjoy it. She is on the waiting list for physio and we are hoping this will help her be a little more mobile, we'll see.

Better get my chores done, I'm trying to keep to my morning routine, not easy. I've also been decluttering for lent, (one item a day for 40 days) some days I have done more than one item, but it's getting difficult now, need to up my game :)

    Love to all <3

Allie- Almost to the end! I have only ever walked away from one job with no notice. The man had just bought the flower shop I worked at. He was a mean, rude man. I spent 2 days in tears. On day 3, I left at lunch and never went back! It was my second job though. Fast forward a few years, he sees me at our shop. He says, I was trying to figure out how I knew you, then remembered you worked for me....uhoh.....He said, you were a great worker! Lol! Hugs to you!

So local colleges have shut down classes. University of Dayton is sending everyone home as of 6pm tonight. All classes will be conducted online. A bunch of the students got together in the streets, had a party, got out of hand (again), police called, left a huge mess in streets! I don't get it! A few years ago they actually destroyed cars during a street party. This is an expensive college! I don't think I would be comfortable sending my kids there.

One of my renters is a single young lady. Last year the senior lady next door died in her home. She wasn't seen for 3 days (unusual as she was quite nosey). I mean looking in people's windows nosey. Yesterday she sends me a news post. Apparently another death about 4 houses up. I hope she doesn't get spooked out. This one was a senior.

    On to page 35.

I wish my university would finally do that. Right now, they're "threatening" us that if we don't turn up to class it will be deemed that we're not engaging with the course and could be removed from the course.

I figure less human contact is better.
