How Has the Coronavirus Affected You?

Working from home most of the time now. I do have to go in from time to time though...couple days per week. Restaurants and bars and such are limited to 1/2 capacity. That doesn't affect us all that much as we are kind of home bodies and don't eat out a whole lot. Cancelled my spring break trip to Colorado with my boys. My gym is closed and I'm fine with that...I was taking a self imposed moratorium from the gym from the time we had our first infections in the state last week as it is a large commercial gym and there can be hundreds of people in there. Going for walks in the mornings with my boys daily and usually an afternoon bike ride.0

Well, as long as you don't go blaming others for your actions if you get banned. Cause, that's a thing around here too.5 -
School is closed...college is closed...gym is closed...church is closed...restaurants are closed...
Basically everybody I know is staying home...except me. I still get the delightful 75 minute commute each day for work.
But at least I can still rely upon a paycheck being uninterrupted. Now, if only the stores still had some toilet paper to spend all that money on...4 -
my apartment complex just announced they're no longer accepting packages in the office
the way it normally works is that the mailman uses the larger package mailboxes to leave bigger items- those are located right beside the regular mailboxes. but they're limited in number. so if they're already full, then the mailman brings it inside and leaves it in the office. then you can go by whenever during business hours and pick it up from the staff.
now they're not accepting them anymore, and keeping the doors closed and its appointment only to even talk to the employees.
im guessing the mailman will just start leaving you a note that you have a package to pick up at the local post office instead, assuming the large package boxes are full of course.
so, basically their idea is, in order to cut down on the spread of the virus, they're limiting interactions located where we live, and instead will start funneling people to the local post office, where more people will end up waiting in line for longer periods of time now.
somehow, just somehow, i don't think that's going to be very effective.2 -

My kids and I now have all been coughing for 24 hours. Fever low but hovering around 100. Most pronounced symptom for me is chest heaviness but I honestly don’t know how much of that is just from anxiety. We can’t be tested as there is a shortage of test kits in my state and they are only testing people with known contact with the virus or who have traveled in the past 2 weeks. All that tells me is that the community spread numbers are severely underreported.
No clue if its *the* virus, but just the same.. we are housebound until symptoms resolve.

March 18: Found out that our county had its first confirmed case yesterday. The spread will be imminent from that given how rapidly most things spread in this area. Also found out that the first confirmed case hit my dad's county.. and he's in his 70s and has diabetes. He informed that it was already getting hard for him to find basic medical supplies for his diabetes routine, so I might end up having to send him supplies if this continues. Sad thing is, we all know it's not because there's not enough supply (there's plenty sitting in warehouses), but mostly because the stores can't keep up with demand and can't prevent people hoarding supplies.
Went back to the store today in search of wet cat food. The store on base has initiated a 100% ID check for patrons because some of our members were abusing the system and inviting their friends and neighbors to shop on post. So not only did they initiate an ID check, but now we are limited to buying only 3 of any one thing.. which means I could not buy cat food singularly and had to shell out more money for a package of 24. Oh well. Inconvenient, sure. Was hoping to score some chicken, but there remains to be none, either fresh or frozen. Hardly any meat, but plenty of fish. My fridge and freezer are mostly stocked so I didn't need any of that, but I was seriously hoping for some chicken. Again, oh well.
My son's school decided this afternoon to extend the home stay of the kids, so now there's no school for two weeks (putting them into April). Most of the scouting events I helped plan or were planning on attending have been rescheduled or moved now. Still keeping an eye out on how things progress.
My husband remains firmly in camp "y'all are overreacting" whereas I remain in camp "keep y'all's hands clean and stop being a selfish *kitten*".5 -
My hematologist this morning gave me a stern lecture about why I should be isolating more than I am. Quite honestly, I had not thought much about my being in a higher risk category. I was too busy trying to take care of everything else. Oops.
So, I will start working from home, doing grocery delivery or pick up, etc., etc. as much as possible. I do not need to be getting sick.4 -
Just got told a confirmed case of COVID-19 occurred on the base where I live involving a NEX employee.
Too close for comfort, yo.8 -
I'm so pissed that I have kids calling here to invite my daughter over. I really don't think some people understand what social distancing is. I also live in a small town and I've seen people that I know going out even after they got back from vacation. It's so frustrating how some people don't seem to care because they don't feel like they're at risk and it's just a 'cold' for them. Selfishness at it's finest.7

The Governor of NY made it mandatory that all businesses cut %50 of their daily workforce or have 50% work from home. Alot of people are now laid off. My company is splitting us I to 3 groups 8-430 , 430-1230am, 1230am-8am inorder to not to lay us off
How can a governor legally do that ?
There's a good chance that there will be more personal destruction (suicide, crime, spousal abuse) as a result of economic collapse than the virus itself.9 -

well there's that saying about how "there are only nine meals between mankind and anarchy" so yeah i tend to agree
personally i think things will stay okay until after the next paycheck hits towards the end of the month, then queue more panic buying; and then the lack of paychecks are gonna start adding up for some folks.2 -

I haven’t verified this so don’t come for me. My accountant asked me yesterday “how many people do you think were unemployed during the Great Depression? I said “IDK maybe 50%”. Her answer was20%. I was surprised. That was eye opening to me.
Apparently I didn’t listen well in school but I didn’t know that number could cause the trouble it did. Which I guess makes sense but.....hadn’t thought about it in those numbers.4 -

I believe that the height of the Great Depression was 1933 with a national unemployment rate of 24.9%.
Keep in mind the type of employment there was at that time and the lack of any kind of government safety net.
That depression made a life long impact on a lot of people.
My grandfather would tell me: "Take very good care of your possessions, they could be the last ones you ever have." Paranoid? maybe, but to be fair, I didn't have his life experiences (Thank God.).9 -

It's about health of the population. In certain situations, Gov't has overriding authority. Be thankful you don't live in the Bay Area of California.2 -

Government might have an authority, but to what ends ?
As some point, there is going to be pushback, if not retaliation, by the masses.
The Bay Area of California? Yeah, not my jam.

Let me explain. The supermarket is empty of food supplies. The baked beans were calling me. I calmly explained to her that the beans are being sold as 'buy 4 for £2.50' I simply bought X2 of the product on offer. She hastily explained while shaking, that as of tomorrow we will only be able to buy X2 of each product per person. She couldn't quite understand that the are being sold on offer of X4 for a set price. Looks like supermarkets will have to sort out their 'deals' so people dont feel as if they are 'panic buying' when I haven't been doing that at all. But when all the hoarders have reduced you and your family to beans, I feel I am within my rights to have SOMETHING to eat if I have to self isolate...actually feel like your committing a crime for buying food.
Good job I bought a bottle of rum for the 3 of us. Should have maybe bought 2....
hey i found who’s hoarding all the baked beans you guys
