Our cleaner is here. She has a mask, gloves etc and is wiping down behind her. When she is gone I will swab front door knob, bell and knocker and anything else. I bought a large bottle of rubbing alcohol last year, so that has come in handy.
Only one of her clients has cancelled and she was old and on chemo. The cleaner 's partner is a private teacher, so she is now on line. They are from Brazil. I pay her on line, so no cash exchanges.
My fluey thing seems to have departed, thank goodness. I'm feeling like my old self.
DH is a bit despondent. I think he is worrying about his daughters.
He got milk and a newspaper this morning from the little newsagents. Milk doesn't seem to be a problem at the moment.
Kim - Here they are crying out for agricultural workers, pickers etc. What's it like around you? Otherwise stuff will rot in the ground. They are talking about redirecting the out of work restaurant workers.
So sorry for those of you with big worries about family and friends. Beth, it must be so hard. I feel for those with lots of people to feed when it's hard to find stuff. Like Kim, if I ate a bit less it wouldn't hurt me! But teenagers etc are hoovers that just inhale food.
The sun is shining. Spring is springing! Tonight we are having one of my old frozen ragus and butternut squash that I found the other day. Left over cabbage. Sounds glorious! Plus fresh mango.
I am having fewer AF days than I was. I'm not going crazy, but a drink is something to look forward to at the end of the day. So far we are keeping it to a reasonable portion. Tonight a glass of red wine.

Good Saturday!
I finally caught up again.
Katla- Happy Anniversary! That is amazing. My husband and I will have to live to 97 to see a 50 yr anniversary 😂
Margaret- Thank you for sharing. You and your voice are lovely.
Sharon- Oh No! I am happy you were able to get immediate help. Please follow all instructions to get healthy.
Beth- So scary especially to be so far away. Prayers that your parents are able to get the assistance they need through this time. Prayers that you find peace when they do get assistance and the surgery is complete. We are here for you!
Ginny- You are allowed an occasional outburst. You have a lot of people depending on you. I hope as things get more controlled with working from home that you get a chance to BREATHE a little.
I was texted by my mother yesterday. She lives in NC. She is staying home from what I figured. She is busy cleaning and decluttering. I wish her luck as she is a hoarder.
I called another older gentleman friend to see if he needed anything. He is good. But said he would let me know if he needed anything.
Still working. Still wiping. Still rubber gloving. More and more people doing curbside drop off and pick up. Big sale going on with commercial mowers right now. Not great timing, but did sell 3 yesterday.
I have to pay bills, check on one of my renters, then figure out what else I want to accomplish this weekend at home.
I am getting tired of hearing that I shouldn't be "on the front lines" so to speak. Our customers depend on me. They know my name, voice, and smile. They tell me they like dealing with me. I am taking precautions.
We are STRONG women!
We HAVE each other's backs!
We SUPPORT as we can, even though only on line.
I pray that we help ease some of the loneliness that this time of separation can enhance.

If you can afford to, donate $$$ to your local food bank.
If you are a seamstress, consider making medical masks to donate.
I am reminded of Victory Gardens in WWI and WWII.

We can order it, and get it, but we can only order 1 pack at a time. So the last 2 weeks I've received 24-roll packs. The week before that, they were out of stock. But I had a full 24-roll pack to begin with + about 8 rolls. About every 6 days, I place a full grocery order and hope to get a package of toilet paper in it.
I've also ordered, and received a couple boxes of tissues (like Kleenex) each week, and a package of 2 paper towel rolls each week as well.
I wish I could send you and Suzi some! I walked through the grocery store today and could have picked up 24 or maybe 48 rolls! I've found going just before closing is the time when they start to appear.
Oh also, small places seem to have them ... small grocery shops, small chemists, dollar-type stores, etc.
M in Oz4 -
Karen - I did that the other day. The bins in supermarkets have been removed because people have been stealing the donations. I also donated to the homeless centre up the road from us. It provides cleaning and clothes washing facilities in mobile vans. It's so easy to forget about those less fortunate right now.
Supermarkets are hiring right now for shelf stackers etc. My elder son's girlfriend does that already as an extra earner, so he might join her. Vital work. He used to work in a warehouse. Kim?
Love you women.

Machka Someone on FB posted a picture of a squirt bottle for postpartum perineal care and said women who have had children know what to do when they run out of TP. I giggled about it all day.

Good morning peeps
Beth - ((((HUGS)))) As someone mentioned, ask to speak to the hospital social worker and get a better picture of how things can be handled. They generally know much more than line staff who do their best to enforce the rules, but there might be different rules for extenuating circumstances like this. Perhaps you have already covered this with them. Please know your dad & mom are in our prayers.
TP source suggestions - Health food stores, RV Centers- there's one in our community that sells and services RV and RV supplies which actually put an announcement on Facebook yesterday. Limit three packages. Janitorial supply companies, tho they might be saving their supply for institutional customers they serve, but it wouldn't hurt to check, they might be breaking down cases and selling a few rolls at a time.
TP Patrol - I'm not sure it's hoarding going on around here anymore as much as it's buying for senior friends and neighbors. Folks in my friendship circle are networking well and we pick up items for each other when we see them.
To those worrying about not being able to pay the mortgage - check with your lender, they might be waiving payments and interest for several months - they just "freeze" it and tack everything on to the end of the loan. If you haven't heard from them, check on it. Our credit union and area banks did that after the huge flood in our area in 2007, and even suspended car loan payments, etc.
Actually, perhaps that's already been in a Federal or State declaration, or will be soon.
Political commentary- nothing nasty :I have to give kudos to our governor and county commissioners for sharing their press conferences and some meetings live on Facebook. It's interesting to watch these proceedings and better understand what is leading them to make certain decisions. Their jobs are hard and they cannot please everyone, but they are doing the best with what information they have at the time.Stay healthy peeps. This too shall pass.
And they haven't had much sleep in the last week. I've worked disasters, nothing of this magnitude, but have dealt with unhappy citizens and situations while running on empty and approaching "blithering idiot" status. Amazing the disconnect between brain and tongue that sometimes happens when going without sleep for days. . So I cut them all - from federal down to local-a lot of slack. Things turn on a dime and they haven't been through this before. Pleased at how well the agencies from federal down to local are working together on this.

What I'm grateful for today (not in any particular order):
- That most of my country has the technology to deal with creating social distance effectively.
- That I work in a job where I can continue working at home.
- That my husband's job is part of essential services, so he can keep working, and he doesn't work with the public.
- For all those across the world who keep this amazing globe running for us, and most of all for the health workers who are risking so much right now.
- That my son and daughter are within a one-hour drive and a six-hour drive respectively, now. It was hard having John in Oregon for the last year, and having Kelsey in North Carolina for the last two years, with both of them so far away. Glad to have them and my grandbabies in the center of the country with us now. Particularly now
What are you grateful for?10 -
Kylia,
Interesting people are saying you're not on the front lines. You are not only keeping your business up and running you're also helping many other small businesses do the same. You are also giving others something positive to do around their homes. You have put in proper protections and social distancing. The grass keeps growing so people need to keep mowing.
I pray every day for the small business owners who keep America running. I hope you're able to keep the shop open and continue to assist others.6 -
C-19 - One of the best descriptions I've heard of the current situation:Emily Landon, the chief infectious disease epidemiologist at University of Chicago Medicine, took the lectern after Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), who on Friday afternoon announced that the state would undergo a stay-at-home order for 2½ weeks starting Saturday evening.
“The healthy and optimistic among us will doom the vulnerable,” Landon said. She acknowledged that restrictions like a shelter-in-place may end up feeling “extreme” and “anticlimactic” — and that’s the point.
“It’s really hard to feel like you’re saving the world when you’re watching Netflix from your couch. But if we do this right, nothing happens,” Landon said. “A successful shelter-in-place means you’re going to feel like it was all for nothing, and you’d be right: Because nothing means that nothing happened to your family. And that’s what we’re going for here.” (Full article in the Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/03/20/emily-landon-coronavirus/9 -
I'm really not worried about the to situation. I'm worried for those that keep going out for one last thing. I can make do and do not feel running around from store to store is in mine or anyone else's best interest. When I have a list of 30 to 40 items I may go out or may just order delivery.
Imagine your house is on fire and every living thing has made it out. You decide you must save that family heirloom. As a result you get trapped and die. This virus is a wildfire. Hot spots are popping up everywhere. Italy is now having to decide who gets treated and who does not.
Every journey out in public gives us one more chance to bring it home.
I love you all and am concerned for everyone's health and wellbeing. You are such a great, supportive group of women and it would sadden me greatly if anyone of you fell Iill and passed from something that could have been prevented.

Well my Hoover bit the dust today. It lived to the ripe old age of 25 so it was time. Thank goodness I have a small vacuum I use for the tile floors.
Working on the to do list. The house will be sparkling soon.5 -

Wow! almost 400 posts, but I am caught up.
Beth, I'm so sorry. Your parents are the same age as mine, so I always follow their story. I know that if this were my parents and my mother was told that she couldn't get back in if she left that she would be there for the duration. Maybe someone can pack a bag for her. My father fell two days ago. He got choked on cornbread (which Mama has now forbidden him to eat), stood up to cough, lost his balance and fell in the kitchen. Mama was so afraid that he had hit his head on the cabinet but the only thing that seems the worse for it is his hand. He seems ok now. My brother does live next door so is able to come out and help if they can get him to answer his phone. If it was up to Mama, she would sell their house (and 98 acres of farmland) and move into an apartment so that she didn't worry herself sick with the yard work and upkeep, but Daddy is having none of it. He won't even sell his cows.
Sharon, Wow! Just wow! Thank goodness you are ok.
We are sheltering in place except for necessities. I am venturing out today to pick up some essentials for Mama and Daddy and take him some more Ensure. We picked up 3 cases for him on Thursday. I think we were the only shoppers in Sam's Club without a huge pack of TP in our cart. I got a pack several weeks ago when I was there, and we are still working on our last pack, so we should be good for awhile. We are eating better and healthier than ever since I've been cooking at home. I made teriyaki salmon the other night. I didn't have teriyaki sauce so I made my own, substituting coconut aminos for the soy sauce and coconut sugar for the brown sugar. It was pretty tasty. The store was out of frozen veggies so I stocked up on fresh to preserve the frozen ones we already have in our freezer for harder times, just in case. I can't tell if I've lost any weight because I gave up the scale for Lent.
Kim, my heart is with you and others who are facing huge financial challenges from this disaster.
Carol, I'm hopeful that your son can find something temporary (like a grocery stocker or something) until this passes. Did the restaurant promise him his job back when business picks back up? Like someone else mentioned, I'm pretty sure the teachers will continue to be paid since they are working like crazy managing their students' online learning and at home paperwork. I'm happy that the cafeteria workers around here are still working to produce sack lunches and breakfasts for the children. It's amazing the way they have organized pickup sites around the county.5 -
Lisa love the what I'm grateful today post.
Here's mine
I'm grateful I awakened and have another healthy day on this sweet earth.
I'm grateful to be able to continue working at home and still be covered by insurance and receive my full salary.
I'm grateful for all of the cleaning supplies in my home. They will keep me busy over the coming days and weeks.
I'm grateful for my humble home and a place to lay my head every night.
I'm grateful for this community and the support provided here.3 -
It is s push pull for me because I have gone out. But when I do I wear a mask and I educate others about social distancing, cleaning surfaces, and washing hands, and encourage businesses to close. I am careful not to get caught in crowds and keep it to a minimum. I think today I am going to wear my bug mask N-100 rating. Many still do not know all ages are starting to get hit. Those who are out in still see in groups and getting too close together. I know how to protect myself and I have worked hard to have as strong as immune system you can in this environment we live in. I figure I should be the designated shopper among my friend because I have protective gear and they don't. Yes I know it is not fool proof. The other weapon I have it my essential oils. Tea tree and eucalypsis kill viruses I spray myself before and after I go out.
I wrote the governor to close schools sooner than he did. They reponded to my letter they didn't want to cause panic.
My reply to that was that is what I am trying to avoid. He did listen to someone and did close them two days after Wisconsin.
Sooner would have been better.
Hope this isn't too political for you but I called myself a Trump Trooper to my husband today. I think of myself as that as I go forth to educate others. Fortunately for me I have the gear I need.
It connects me to my dad who some of you know was the pilot in a scout plane in the war. He flew a plane that carried no protective weapons so the plane could be lighter and fly farther. His only protection was to fly into the clouds. His job was to spot the enemy before they spotted us. Later he was one of the pilots that trained other pilots to go into war. He also had the awful job of telling families their loved ones did not make it.
I like to think I make him proud!

Margaret: I also thank you for Simple Gifts. Your voice is exceptional and your choice of song is heartwarming.
Kylia: Thank you for your happy anniversary message. This is the big 50. When we married I was 20 and DH was 22. We were planning to save the family celebration for summer all along. At this point I’m not sure which summer that will be. We are taking things one day at a time and hope that a summer celebration will be possible this year.
Karen and Machka: Who would ever have imagined world-wide toilet paper shortages? :noway: We’re experiencing it, too. :ohwell:
We are safe and warm at home. My car repair is done and my car looks like new. It is at home. I know that my adult children and grandchildren are safe. I’m counting my blessings. I haven’t been able to get TP but we have enough for the time being.

I'm really not worried about the to situation. I'm worried for those that keep going out for one last thing.
Yes but I'm expected to go out. I'm expected to go to work and to take public transportation. My uni group members tried to get me to meet with them today. I didn't do that but that's more about it being incredibly inconvenient to get to the university on a weekend.
I'm expected to run my cycling events, to get my car fixed in about 10 days time, to attend my husband's medical appointments ... although who knows ... maybe his next one will change.
I'm fighting with my husband's return to work coordinator about him staying home. I think he should. She's given him 2 weeks off and then figures life will return to normal, I guess.
For the most part, the only reason I'm going out for several more things is because I'm out anyway.
Same with everyone else. It's not like they've cancelled anyone's work, or schools, or public transportation.
And we don't have to stay inside! We're encouraged to go for walks, bicycle rides, hikes, kayak adventures and all sorts. Enjoy the great outdoors!
Just away from people as much as possible (except at work, in schools and while using public transportation).
Fortunately, the situation isn't as bad here as it is in other places ... yet. At some point it might be, but for now, we can still do things outside our homes ... and most of us are expected to.

Beaches being closed all over to everyone because morons who piled in elbow to elbow close. If they stayed home at least beach home owners y folks from that community could have enjoyed it.
Some folks seeing this as go on vacation time still. If they enjoyed their home areas only it wouldn’t be closed. They closed our walking trails y parks earlier for the same reason. Everyone saw it as an excuse to crowd in like its Disney World it Spring Break party in a tiny club.
Hard to keep Hubby out of JRs snack food!
Making Guacamole for him out of anything he found at the store awhile back. Only 3 tiny avocados 🥑 but it’s healthy for hubby using extras to bulk it up curb hunger.
Bulked you’re Guacamole:

Tsp lemon 🍋 juice shaking it in the salsa bottle to get it all
Pepper dash
1/2 can corn 🌽 fried on stove in water
Stove top stuffing
Left over juice from canned corn 🌽

There is not a paper product to be found anywhere in a 10 mile radius of my home. Supposedly there are a couple of packages of TP about 15 miles away, but I fear by the time I get there, it'll be gone. Even Home Depot is out. Stores are limiting purchases of milk, eggs, paper products and other things people are hoarding. People in my neighborhood are already starting to bargain for TP. Just this morning, someone offered a trade of a bag of fresh oranges from their tree in exchange for a 4 pack. I wish I had TP. I'll be using paper towels soon.
I'll be going to the grocery store tomorrow or early in the week to get fresh produce. It's a great time to limit meat intake.
I also heard that Costco isn't allowing returns for those who hoarded TP early on. I don't know if it's true, but one of my friends said he experienced it with his own eyes and ears.

Also remember as we're encouraged to get outside, the sun is not in quarantine. Use your sunscreen.

Tina: We were Costco members for a long time, and share a membership with DDIL. I haven't been into Costco for more than a year. It started with road construction between here and there last summer. I simply got out of the habit. We are shopping in local stores and don't miss the 70+miles round trip to the nearest Costco. :noway:5

thanks for thinking of us... both he and I have "essential" jobs so we are still working. Kirby can't do his job remotely. I guess I could it the boss wanted to set me up, but I deal with ALOT of peoples banking accounts so I don't know if he wants to deal with the liability. he works for a hospital and I work in the financial industry. we are both considered hi risk cuz of our age but the serious + is that we are so sticking healthy, we have no underlying conditions or issues. he has been off this week cuz of a dental appointment that he had. he starts work on Monday. we will see how long I last in riding to work.

No TP- rip up an old shirt to use old wash clothes or cut up your oldest worst towel wash after use in bleach water if you have bleach. If no bleach laundry detergent at least. Set in the sun to hang clothes if you can sun kills stuff too. Use a shower if you got it or tub then clean it out multiple times a day.

One of My Aunts (moms side) in the hospital 🏥 80’s-90’s age group oxygens on double Phemonia might have Coronavirus. She can’t have any visitors no one but sick allowed in . She’s not expected to survive this . At least she said she she rather herself than her Daughter have it so she’s grateful that her Daughter still not showing symptoms..she has enough on her plate fighting this off. Her Daughter only 40yrs old never married was her caregiver so pray she doesn’t have it or my Uncle who was also being cared for.
Banks are closed here only ATM y online. Stores limited number of people inside for empty shelves grabbing to items allowed y other stores closed completely. Online y curbsides the main 80% of grocery shopping here . 20% waiting in lines hoping you get in that something is left.
Gods in control of this got to just keep our heads up keep marching on .3 -
Got my shopping done. That was...interesting. lol I did manage to happen across a stock boy unloading a skid of t.p at one of the stores, so I got a pack of that. I still need to jog over to Home Depot and pick up 500 pounds of sand BECAUSE...this week is our Kitchen Beach Party! The timing for this is perfect. I don't know about the kids, but I desperately need the distraction of sand and "beachy" fun.
Sharon- Hugs to you and I hope you are feeling better and on your feet again, soon!
Beth- Big hugs to you and your parents as you figure out the best/wisest way to help them? Are they technologically connected? Do they have smart phones? If so, perhaps they can figure out Skype, or Viber or Facetime so you can see them and help bridge the distance. IF they can't figure it out, I am sure there are many people at the hospital who can help them.
More of you I want to respond to, but time marches on and I have been interrupted numerous times by the family (although one interruption was Joaquin and Miguel on viber), as I have been reading and writing. talk to you all tomorrow. KJ6
