WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR APRIL 2020

Evelyn Tough working out with DH not doing well! I pulled up your weather and it is not cooperating at all! A week of cold and rain doesn’t make it easier to get out and enjoy your bicycle. It’s hard to imagine what “getting out” in other areas is like. Being in a small town, I don’t think we feel the restrictions as severely as some in large cities. I can’t picture what Vancouver is like at this point (even though I have been there, it was so many years ago…) but it seems as though it was dense city surrounded by mountains. I enjoyed dancing in the living room yesterday. I guess the new normal is to find things to do inside.

Tere So sorry for the loss of your friend! This virus becomes more real with each person who passes. Also, your situation of not being able to have a funeral, makes it tougher to grieve. Sending prayers to you and his family!

Tracey Still looks like winter in Edmonton! We are getting much warmer here and snow is almost nonexistent with global warming. We used to have a few good snowstorms in winter, now we have a couple of inches which don’t stick around more than a couple of days.

Kylia Your butterfly coloring is beautiful! It put a smile on my face! The fridge sign is perfect!! I want to eat all day long…ugh! I know it is just too convenient. Also, I have more snack foods on hand to keep from running out of food.

Heather Your comment about washing hair and putting on makeup for skyping made me think. I have been doing my usual routine as if I were out and about (hair, makeup, getting dressed). I think there is some mental health benefit from continuing those practices as we go through this. Whatever little things we can do to make life seem more normal might help keep us from getting as stressed or depressed during this time!

Karen I love seeing how musicians are spending their spare time. The Vivaldi was great!

Well, finally charted my weight and the bad news is I'm up 1.6 lbs in March. sigh. On the bright side, given my lack of activity and my snacking, I'm only up 1.6 lbs for March! lol Today is the first day of a new month and I plan on turning that around. I can't go to the gym, but I shall be going for at least one walk every day, with or without hubby.
Luci, I'm not in Vancouver, I'm on Vancouver Island. I live in a "bedroom" community of Victoria, we're part of the greater Victoria area, but we are not in as densely populated an area as downtown, for instance. There is a recreational/commuter trail that we can access just a few blocks from our home so that is usually where we walk. It's well used, but people really do seem to be respecting the social distance thing. When I bike to work I am able to ride on it most of the way, which is great, I would not be able to ride on the roads! Your granddaughter is adorable!

Am truly enjoying the photos of babies, both furry and non, the scenery (Machka, your beach photos make me so envious!) and the funnies! Oh my, the funnies! Must print out the social distancing from the fridge one (close the f******g door!) The social distancing cat also cracked me up!

Somebody had a concern about a dress they ordered for a granddaughter as it was packed in plastic and made in China. It should be fine, you've already let it sit for a considerable length of time, but if you are still concerned, carefully take it out of the plastic (preferably over the washer) and put it in with a load of laundry. The virus is fat based, this is why so much emphasis is placed on washing your hands with soap and water. The soap, be it on our hands or in the laundry, will break up the virus and basically kill it.
I was feeling kind of bummed as I wanted to get some wool and make a blanket for my grandson and hubby has asked for one too. Going to Michaels really seemed like a frivolous plan and then it occurred to me that I can order wool online! It was a bit of a smh moment! lol And I was able to find just what I wanted for dgs, I was looking for a variegated blue, Michaels had some, but just not quite what I had in mind, but Mary Maxim had just what I was looking for. Probably could have gotten something for hubby at Michaels but since I was ordering online anyway.... Was getting a little worried as I hadn't had a notice from them that it had been shipped, but I got that yesterday, it will take from 1 - 11 days to get here. And that's as close a timeline as I can get for right now. Oh well, I am embroidering a birth announcement for our granddaughter and as she will be a year old in May, I really need to get on it! I've been lax with it, but the last few days have been putting in a few solid hours and am really happy with the progress. It's going to be so cute when it's done!

I was excited to see I only had 25 posts to read then realized that I was still in March. There were 4 pages in April.

I did not weigh the entire month of March. I decided I’d better face the music today since two weeks of SIP wreaked havoc with my sugar fast. I actually lost over 4 lbs in March!

My son’s workplace finally shut down for two weeks.

I have never ever cut my own bangs or colored my own hair. I experimented yoday with blowing my bangs to the side. I may discover I like the no bangs look.

Michelle, there are lots of people who rely on takeout for meals, especially in cities where may may live in a room or apartment with no working fridge or stove. I consider myself privileged to have a big freezer and nice fridge where i can stock up. We are trying to limit our grocery trips to every two weeks.

Michele - I’m curious, what are the rules right now regarding parties where Denise lives? Here in Alberta you can have no gatherings over 15, even privately in your home. I expect that to change again this week. We seem to be a few days behind New Brunswick which has gone down to 5.

Canada has also restricted travelling from province to province. I could choose to go to the next province, but if I was planning on staying there I would need to self isolate for 14 days.

I have to go get groceries today. It’s been over a week since I was able to go and I wasn’t able to get everything then. I need to get things for my lunches because as of yesterday we are no longer allowed to order in. We can’t accept any items for our residents so it makes sense that we can’t accept items for ourselves. Since our girls have moved out we have gotten into the habit of deciding what is for supper each day and I would just stop and get what I needed that day. It’s worked for us and saved a lot of money as we were wasting too much before that. Now it is hard to decide what to buy in a weekly trip again.

Last night I watched the National news on our CTV station. They ended it in prayer, a priest and a rabbi wrote the prayer together and recited it standing 6 feet apart. They showed several photos of people doing window visits and such throughout the prayer. It was beautiful and eerie all at the same time.

Still working on my 20 for 20. Met 85% of goals in March. Total for first quarter of the year is 84% met. One of the goals will be at 0% because of CoVid. I happy if I average over 75% of my goals each month!!

We are not allowed to visit another household at all. Even family. No meetings of more than 2 people outside from different households and you have to stand 6 feet apart. No gatherings of any kind. No travelling to exercise, only locally. No playgrounds open.
For us it's fine, because we have a large house, plus a garden and quiet tree lined streets with the sea nearby. Our lives are much the same, minus the grandkids. We have local shops with fresh vegetables and artisan bread. I'm actually eating better than ever!
I know how hard it is for a great many, crammed into small areas with children and people they may not get on with. Or being completely isolated. There is a lot of concern about domestic violence. The homeless.
My personal worry is my younger son's finances, with their jobs cut in half, or worse, and an absolutely huge mortgage. I'm sure it keeps them awake at night. My son works in the restaurant and pub industry, which is teetering on disaster.
This is the same for everyone, everywhere. No one will come out of this unscathed.

On the good side, the sun is shining in Hove and our weather is set to warm up at the weekend. I will write tomorrow, I will exercise tomorrow, I will eat healthy food tomorrow, I will tell people I love them tomorrow. I will be thankful I am not leading the country.
