Hey everyone! I took a little hiatus amidst everything going on because I had to. I needed to step away, weight loss took the backseat as school transitioned to remote learning and the streses that come with that, my uncle passed away which has been hard for my family since we can’t have a proper funeral and mourn together, and this overall sense of dread. I’m happy to say I feel in a better place and like the title this month says, I’ve been able to adapt.
As many popular memes show, eating healthy and exercising has been difficult for many. I am one of those people. I am happy to say today I stepped on the scale, first time since 3/11 and I’ve gained 2 pounds. I expected all my work to be erased so seeing that motivated me to come back here before I do erase all my hard work. I’ll continue with my usual Wednesday weigh in but will use today’s weight as my April starting weight.
I haven’t read through posts yet, will circle back and do that. I just needed to get my post off assp before I chickened out.
Thanks @aliciap0116 and @torihudson6 for checking in on me, you have no idea how much that also motivated me to come back to the group.
Starting Weight: 299.8 (1/1/20)
Current Weight: 288.0 (4/7)
April Goals
1. Log food into MFP (under 1800 ideal, but just log it regardless)
2. Daily 30 min walk/run
3. Strength exercises- my brother came up with a plan that I can at home with no equipment. I’ve included that below if anyone want to steal it.
Home Workout
5 exercises for 30s with 20s break in between
Total of 6 sets
1 set = 2min 30s duration
6 sets = total 15mins
8 sets = total 20mins
Breaks:
-attempt to not take a break during 1st set.
-Try to not take no long than 20s breaks between exercises.
-Take no longer than 45s between sets
Exercises 30s each
1. Burpee- modify if needed
2. Squat jumps
3. Mountain Climbers
4. Planks
5. Alternating Lunges

Thanks everyone for your support! I have been making some bad choices but also I haven't quite settled in to this new way of being. @AlexandraFindsHerself1971 A few months ago I used to log my meals for the week ahead, it worked well for a while, and then I got into the groove of it and didn't need to, maybe I should start doing that again. I'm eating more meals with my partner rather than alone and that doesn't help, he drinks more than I do and keeps suggesting snacks in addition to the sneaky snacks I have already had!!! I don't have any opportunity to buy sneaky snacks now so at least that should improve!8

I ate half a pizza with half a bag of popcorn for lunch yesterday and dropped 1.2 lbs overnight.
I will never understand weight loss. :0
But well, guess I'm actually starting April at 189.8. I'm soooooo close to 185. And I badly, desperately need bras but every store is closed. Go figure.
I'm so glad you said that! I had pizza and a cider the other night and dropped 1lb 😂5 -
Hey everyone, I'm still here too. @sharpdust I am so sorry about your uncle, I really feel for those who have lost loved ones during this time and can't get together to mourn.
I'm in a similar boat, have found focusing on weight loss difficulty. I've also been eating really poorly some days. For example today I had leftover pizza for breakfast and cereal for lunch. Junky cereal that my husband bought, too. Aaah! Oh well. I'm being patient with myself. I logged everything and I'll try to turn my day around.
Simultaneously telecommuting and "momming" is no joke, it's a real challenge. I am happy to still have a job, but kind of starting to wish I was laid off so I could collect unemployment and not be in this constant state of stress and anxiety. Just had a conference call and my children were screaming in the background the whole time despite my best shushing efforts. I'm trying to be patient with them too since they are also really affected by this forced isolation.
Not to mention the subject matter of every meeting at work has been in depth discussions of how much of a hole we are in financially, and how to plan future cuts to our programs... and foreseeably staff, too. So relaxing!
and then the letters and emails from my children's schools, cheerfully talking about how parents and educators are in this happy "partnership" to "facilitate" learning. yay!
I finally put in for some leave so I only have to try to telecommute for 4-6 hours a day, and then I can devote the remainder of the day to them. My husband is still working outside the home so I don't have much help with their days. I resisted putting in the leave because I thought it might make me more dispensable if cuts are coming- but I decided I don't care anymore. I just can't make this all happen.
I keep thinking about my health as best as I can and trying to fit in exercise. Thank goodness for my treadmill! I just need to get better about stress eating.12 -
Hi everyone, hope you are having a good Tuesday.
Welcome to everyone new; you have found a wonderful place for support and knowledge! I am proud of all of us for taking weight loss on right now.
@legion150 Congratulations on getting into the 200s! I'm so excited for you. Doing this, especially right now, is a big accomplishment.
@Curvybaja55 I am grateful to everyone who is an essential worker right now. Especially those exposed to COVID-19 daily and fighting for their lives, but also to those in healthcare outside of COVID-19, first responders, delivery workers, and those ensuring that our food supply continues.
@cesse47 and @sharpdust and I am sorry for your losses. It must be incredibly hard to lose someone and not mourn their passing as we normally would.
@jaedamvinson I am sorry for your loss as well; I can't imagine having a spouse respond in that way. I love that you are turning this into a time to take care of you.
@mmdeveau I wanted to let you know that I adopted your skin care goal. I avoided moisturizing for a long time (time consuming and I wasn't loving my body) but have restarted after reading about that as part of your post and even did an exfoliation. It's a good way to practice self love.
@skierxjes sorry about your injury - take things slow on exercise but it's wonderful you are able to take control again.
@pamiede I know what you mean about finding a way to get exercise in. I feel like I do really well or really poorly under these conditions.
@vtkayakgirl I know it is their house too, but the constant in-and-out of the fridge by my family members is totally distracting and tempting, especially since I am working from our dining room table and they will sit down and eat in front of me throughout the day. And chat away, since it is their break time (!!) Other than the 6 year old, I'm only cooking one meal a day for them, however. And I have threatened to strike if they eat left overs designated for a second dinner.
@sharpdust so nice to have you back on our thread. We missed you.
@shorepine I can relate on the working from home with little kids. It is a lot to manage, especially if you are the only one home most of the day. I am primary for home schooling my son. The other day I set my son in front of the TV with headphones on and a snack so I could do a conference call I was running. After about 30 minutes he starts yelling about being hungry. It has become a running joke with the group on the call that I need to feed him more. Which is fine because I think people understand and we all know that this is not ideal or by choice. I am more worried about what happens this summer because I do not want to put him in camp with a hundred other kids, even if things start improving.
I have a snack to recommend! I bought a silicone popcorn bowl you use in the microwave off Amazon. You put kernels in without anything and then afterward take a spoonful of coconut oil and mix it into the popcorn in the bowl. The heat melts the oil and makes the salt stick to the popcorn (it also works with airpoppers but takes a bit longer). It seems so decadent but has good fiber and healthy fat, and reasonable calories given the quantity. Better than movie popcorn in my opinion!
Hugs to everyone.7 -
@aliciap0116 --- Thank you. I appreciate your kind words.1

Hi all! I would love to join. Being home during the pandemic had me overeating to self soothe. Now my weight has skyrocketed.

April Goals
-Weigh 242 or less
-Walk 6 days a week
-Practice yoga- Right now I can only do 10-15 minutes and I find even the beginner workouts and moves difficult. But I want to keep at it. By the end of the month I want to complete a full yoga workout.6 -
@aquariansmb short walks are good right now. The fresh air and sun are important. We took our kittens out on their leashes. They were too scared to go far.
@cesse47 sounds like a nice day
@sharpdust I am sorry your uncle passed away and at such a hard time. I am glad you are turning things around since you have worked so hard but I am also glad you took some time to transition. I have days I just do what I have to and go a little easier on myself and let myself deal with the transition.
@shorepine It is reasonable for you to be able to take some time off now. I hope your employer sees this. I am seeing some silver lining to being furloughed temporarily.
@aliciap0116 yes that was one of my snacks but with an air popper.
Today my daughter had a phone interview so I got up early to make everyone breakfast. I made dinner (crock pot). Then we took the kittens out for a walk. We are leash training them since we have coyotes in our neighborhood. It wasn’t much of a walk (it is too scary out there) but nice to get fresh air and sun. I took some groceries to my Mom since my husband went to get some supplies he thought we needed. Then my husband and I went for a real walk. So it was not a bad day.
However of all times our 2nd refrigerator in the basement decides to stop working. So that is why I made the chicken enchilada casserole dish today and pulled pork last night. We got some ice and dry ice to put in a cooler to put the rest of the food in. In the process we found more of the jung my daughter made over Christmas break in the freezer. It is a Chinese rice roll steamed in ti leaves with mung beans pork and duck egg. I had a bite today. It isn’t one of my favorite things my mother-in-law makes but I liked my daughters a lot so I know what we are having for lunch this week. We also have to eat up some frozen lunches we had from before we started working from home. We will probably replace it but not the best time when I am about to go on unemployment and when we are shopping for 2-4 weeks ahead!
The good news is that I was craving going out to a Mexican restaurant and that is why I planned the enchilada casserole for sometime this week. It was yummy and easy to make. We added guacamole and light sour cream.

I know we are 1 week into April but i'd like to join.
I have just weighed in at 312lbs. The heaviest i've ever been.
My goals for April are just to ease myself back into the routine of losing weight.
Drink more water
Start tracking my food again
Go on small daily walks again12 -
Good morning!
The scale don’t show anything different but the way my clothes fit tells me I must be doing something right! I hadn’t been able to fit into these one pair of shorts since before I had my daughter (4 years ago) and I tried them on last week and they are loose! Talkin about makin me feel good!
I have had several people at work notice the weight loss and that makes me feel good too. 🙃

Good morning everyone. Happy Wednesday. I finished yesterday on par even with a rocky start mood wise to the morning. I was feeling rather glum - much like the weather but when it broke I got outside for my walk and my entire day changed. I am two weeks back into focus and while I am not entirely sure where I was at the re-start, but in the last week I have lost 5lbs which is a motivating start. My sleep is showing some improvements as well. I am also seeing a slight decrease in inflammation, which really is the best win.
The clouds are supposed to lessen as the day continues so I am looking forward to getting back outside.
@Erica122093 That's such a great NSV! The scale is such a jerk but the clothes always tell the true story. CONGRATS! A really awesome job!
@13ecca4 I am new as well, welcome! Our starting stats are similar and our goals for the month! You can do this!!
@KeriA Imaging the kittens walking on their little leases is such a cute thought to start the morning with! I am so sorry to hear about your refrigerator. I appreciate your positive attitude about it though and it sounds like you will be having some wondering eats!
@msmimi Welcome! I keep telling myself I want to start doing Yoga but I have zero idea where to start.
@shorepine You are in such a tough transition but be proud that you haven't given up! You are still here!
I hope everyone has a wonderful day!7 -
I do not want to weigh myself. This staying at home is much harder on my body than I thought. When working in the office, I get up regularly, take a walk outside and seem to leave my desk a lot more than here at home. Here at home, I find myself sitting much more than I normally would. We, as a family (dogs too), take a 1 - 2 mile walk five days a week, but I can tell I am gaining weight (or really bloated). I have upped my water intake in the last few days to flush out my system, but who would have thought making meals every day would cause this? It really affects your psyche to know what you should be doing vs reality right now. I think it is the snacking. Alllllll of my friends seem to have upped their alcohol intake with the constant stress of working (or not working) and having kids working on schoolwork at home, myself included. And add in spending more time than ever with your spouse/significant other. My husband and I are surprisingly not having any issues and he was laid off. I am still blessed to be able to work and receive a paycheck, so I am definitely not complaining about our version of staying home. Just dismayed about my adjustment.
I think part of the bloat/gain is that we were ALWAYS on the go before this. Work, school, kid activities, volunteer activities etc kept us out and about 90% of our waking hours. Here's hoping I don't undo everything I have done over the last several months.
Just needed to vent to those who understand this weight loss journey is rarely easy. Hope everyone has a great day and is able to continue to stay safe!14 -
Nyx and Hana say that all this is unimportant when there are BIRDS! outside.
Hugs to all of us as we adjust to this. It's hard all the way round, and honestly if we can get through this and not entirely give up, we're doing good. I'm honestly showing symptoms of depression in a physical way; I'm tired and despite my ADHD meds, have trouble thinking straight. All we can do is just keep doing and eventually we will get to pick up the threads of our social and work lives.
Which is partly why I'm doing the big Chinese dinner tonight. Because sometimes, you know, you just need to do it.

Hi everyone! Today was hard to get through, felt low and tired. I haven't been sleeping well. I did it though without opting to snack on high-calorie food, so very happy about that! I did a very short power walk video only 1 mile, but I've decided that its more important for me to just show up with trainers on every day than the amount of time I walk! I hope you are all doing well, keeping healthy and fit.9

Weigh-in Wednesday for me:
Height: 5'6"
4/1: 186.5
4/8: 186.0
4/15:
4/22:
4/29:
April goal: 181
Non-scale goals:- Some type of movement activity/exercise in the morning and evening.
- Water at 128 oz
- Continue eating healthy foods
- Prioritize sleep and manage anxiety
I'm a bit disappointed after keeping an average of 1300 calories per day with really healthy food, spinning 3-4 times a week, and walks most evenings. I feel like I am doing everything right. I have built some muscle and my TOM is approaching but boo. On the other hand, I am feeling healthy and strong and that's what matters. Wishing you all a good rest of the week!9 -
Weigh-in Wednesday
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
4/1: 262.0
4/8: 260.8
4/15:
4/22:
4/29:
4/30:
April GW: 254.2
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)
Weekly exercise goals:
- exercise bike 5 times per week - 5/5
- short walking videos twice a day 5 times per week - 5/5
- strength training 2 times per week - 2/2 (upper body only--increased weight for one exercise; didn't do lower body/legs this week)
- chair yoga 3 times per week - 3/3
The pain in my right leg is still there but continues to get better. Because of the pain, I continued to skip lower body weight exercises and kept my exercise bike at 30 min. Right now I'm not sure what I'll try doing this week.
@aliciap0116 I too didn't have the loss I projected for the week. I stuck to my calories and did my planned exercise as well as took a couple walks outside. But we're still going in the right direction so that's a plus. And, as you said, feeling healthy and strong is what matters.
Take care of yourselves everyone!7 -
@sharpdust, I'm so happy you're back, I had just been thinking of you again! I think these are times where it is definitely okay to just step away and recompose ourselves, this is a new life experience for everyone. And 2lbs within that timeframe? Nothing at all, you got this.
@orangequilt, I have also made some bad choices, just eating whenever I want and absolutely zero portion control.
@tmdesir, Hi, welcome!
@shorepine, sending you hugs. That sounds like a lot to balance, we're here if you need a good vent session.
@aliciap0116, hugs to you! Hope you're well. I know it can be disappointing when the scale doesn't reflect when we've been putting hard work in. I bloat SO much when my TOM is approaching, I'm sure that's it. It's great when we can feel strong and healthy, that can sometimes outweigh the scale not listening to us
@msmimi, Hi! I am also overeating to self sooth, reverting back to some habits that I thought I had broken. All we can do is try better the next time! And 10-15 minutes is a great start, you'll slowly be able to work yourself up.
@KeriA, all those meals sound yummy! You are quite on top of meal prep, hope her interview went well!
@13ecca4, Hi! When I first started losing weight I also had to ease in, baby steps, otherwise I would just stop. You can do this.
@Erica122093, great loss, congratulations!
@aquariansmb, I find when I am feeling down, just getting outside (while following social distancing) has been beneficial, it is finally warming up where I am so just feeling the sun is great. Sounds like you're already seeing some great results.
@lilann1961, I've also felt very discouraged with being at home, my entire schedule was thrown off and it's hard for me to fall into a new one. We definitely understand, sending you hugs.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971, adorable! I hope the depression passes soon, as you said, well we can do is keep doing.
@changeforeverlj, Hope you're well, too. Times are hard right now, but we can do this.
@MuttiNM, nice loss! I hope the leg pain gets better soon. Take care of yourself, too!
I had a small victory, I was walking around the grocery store and grabbed one of those pre-sliced cakes which I knew I didn't need, BUT I put it back! I didn't buy it. I was proud of myself, this was a major accomplishment for me as I have just been giving into all my cravings as of late. Now I am struggling with late night snacking, for some reason I feel starving at around like 10PM, which I've been satisfying with a bowl of cereal. I'm trying to cut the late night snacking and making sure I'm getting some daily movement in. I plan to weigh tomorrow and take that number no matter what.
Hope everyone is safe and staying well!8
