I eventually want to get to posting my goals and progress for this month. I have been reading any I'm so happy for all of you who have been finding ways to get it all done.
In the meantime, I wanted to put a couple of thoughts out there you all have put in my head, and hopefully contribute to the discussion meaningfully. I plan to break it up by topics - some of them lighter than others.
I have to congratulate @Terytha for getting into the overweight category! I love your picture with your old jeans. I think one of the most amazing things is holding up a pair of old pants and realizing that you used to wear them - and they used to fit!
Also congratulations to @pamiede for getting into those size 12s!
I've been wearing leggings, and they actually are a bit big for me. I'm honestly a bit afraid to put the pants that I used to wear on again. I spent so much money replacing the old pairs that were falling off of me. Will part of me feel great that when I finally need to go back to work and dress professionally those new pairs might be falling again? Yes, but right now I'm feeling more upset about the wasted money. I really hope I'll get some use out of those pants...
And at the same time, I have to say I really don't appreciate that I am a smaller person when I look at myself. I am trying to figure out why, because I do appreciate the difference in certain areas at times. Yesterday, my mother wanted to take a picture of "skinny" me...as she took the picture she commented that my legs were so skinny. I thought this would be great, maybe I will see what she sees once I see the picture. Well, I saw the picture today, and I really can't see the difference. Do I think I look like I am more than 100 pounds overweight? Of course not. I looked at the picture and thought I was a person who might have 50 more pounds to lose. Which is ridiculous because I would be very underweight at that point!!
I am getting to a weight where I am starting to assess, honestly, how much more I can lose. I've hit 165 (and bounced up to 171 OVERNIGHT but I'll save more details for later) and definitely feel I've got more than 15 pounds to lose.
So I know for sure part of my problem is mental. But is it also that I just have no concept of what a pound of scale weight looks like on me? Because I know I'm capable of thinking in a crazy but cognitive manner about it. I think of how many sticks of butter my extra fat looks like, then convert that to pounds in my head!
If you are as confused as me, know you are not alone! For now what I know to do is to keep on going. One day at a time!

Hey all! I am finding that having a discussion to follow is very motivating for me, even though I don’t feel like I have much to add at this point. 🙂
Yesterday I managed to log everything I ate, even though I went over my calories by about 300. Accountability to myself is more important than perfection, so I just need to do that every day! Off to a good start today too!
I did a 15 minute walk with the kids this morning and then a 10 minute bodyweight/cardio workout when we got home. I’m planning on increasing the time in the home workouts, but the walks will probably remain about the same time and distance, since the kids are involved. 😆 The 4 year old (youngest) sets the pace and distance there, and the point of it is to get us all fresh air and movement anyway, so.
I’ve noticed that just deciding that I’m going to get back on track with food journaling has made me feel more hopeful about life in general. This pandemic has been hard on all of us in that respect, and I’ve been needing something to look forward to. Now I have a camping trip planned and a decent hope of my pants being maybe comfortable by then, instead of snug. It’s the little things to look forward to, for me!

@procolorer - It is so difficult! I look back and think of all the money I could have saved on Birth Control for all of those years. Haha. We've got our first appointment at a fertility clinic next Friday so I'm hoping that will give us a new plan.
@torihudson6 - Thank you! I can always use the extra hugs!6 -
Usually I wear this sweater that I bought a couple years ago, it is a men's 3XL and comfy, plus zipper pockets. I am here for pockets that stuff can't fall out of. But that's in the wash today so I'm not wearing it.
Three people have commented today on how slim I look. Apparently people just haven't noticed because I am always lost in a giant sweater.
But I mean, if that's all it took to get this reaction, I am on target for my very small/silly dream of going to a family Christmas and being unrecognizable.
I don't know, I just want to sweep into the room in a pretty dress and have people go, "whoah." I have spent my whole life trying to take up less space and avoid notice and lately I find myself wanting to be seen.12 -
@Rosie3579 Thanks for your encouragement. I'm so sorry for your loss; it's hard to celebrate when you're grieving but it is a necessary part of the process following losses. My Mom, age 98, passed in March so this was my first Mother's Day without her ... as I said, difficult to celebrate as well as mourn.
@deegriggs28 Your weight loss goal for the month is very doable. Have also been part of WW and MFP several times. This time I'm trying to be much more accountable. I've joined two groups (have never done that before); Larger Losers -and- Fat2Fit. I find being more interactive in the threads and groups is helping me keep on track.
@pamiede THEY FIT❣️ that is a great NSV!!
@finngirl61 Motivation is tough because it comes from within. I'm 72 and lung compromised and sedentary for mega years. I know weight loss is simply caloric deficit. So, critical for me is Honestly logging every bite of food and drink that passes over my lips. I'm also incorporating exercise which I have not done in the past. Every morning I do gentle stretches. I use Richard Simmons -- Stretchin' to the Classics -- from YouTube. He does NOT say a word and the music is all classical, very soothing. I knew I needed more that that so found a beginner walking routine from Leslie Sansone. I try to do 2-3 "chunks" of 5 minutes of walking per day. Can't do more that that because of my lungs. Then I started looking for chair exercises ... there are a lot out there for seniors so it's just a matter of finding one that works for you. The one I've chosen is: Chair Yoga to Loosen up your Back! Stretching the Diamond with Sherry Zak Morris ... I've been really pleased with that one -- started with 10 minutes and am now doing the whole thing. Good Luck!!
@sarahremfry Welcome!!
@Indigo3288 Welcome! If you want to stay level or even increase your steps, check out Leslie Sansone walking vids on YouTube ... she's excellent and makes the routines fun.
@BeUncommon WTG great loss this week!
@procolorer a new grocery order delivered yesterday and included one pound of deli sliced turkey ... a lot for just one person. So, I think it'll be a turkey panini for lunch today. Also have 2 heads of cabbage I need to do something with ... any ideas?
@sarahurc I'm trying to look at my reports more this time around. One thing I noticed is that when I only drink 8 glasses of water I also tend to eat more sodium ... and my weight loss takes a hit. Being self-aware is key I believe. Hang in there!!
@speyerj that is a great NSV!! WTG!!
@msktdragon08 Will keep 🤞 for you ... Good Luck!!
@hessjansen Good for you for making the decision to take control of your eating!! Happy to hear your parents are so supportive of your efforts. WTG!!
@CupcakeCrusoe Our weight reno is like your house reno project ... sometimes you have to get rid of the old stuff in order to make room for the new (new habits). And, regardless of what your parents said, it's ok to toss out food from the kid's plates (or your own), or feed to the dog or whatever. It also sounds like you got plenty of exercise in just by doing on the stuff on your house reno list. Hang in there!!
@Erica122093 Welcome!! Check out YouTube for your at home exercise ... they have something for everything: bellydancing, yoga and chair yoga, Leslie Sansone Walking, Tai Chi, Jump Rope, etc. Find something fun and it will help you keep on track.
This is finngirl@61- thanks for your post! I'm sorting craft stuff and doing chores, but haven't done any exercise, except for trips to the store for groceries. I could wear my knee brace, and walk, or even do something at home. Plus even with good shoes, I have some arthritis in my one foot.
I also don't sleep well, and wake up tired. I know- excuses, excuses. I might try an OTC sleep aid, and try to get up earlier, to walk or even stretch here at the house. Sometimes, at my age, with so much weight to lose, it gets overwhelming.4 -
@smithmns414 right? I’m looking to call my ob/gyn to run some tests on what’s going on with me right now. Total mystery! Had my endocrinologist phone appointment today for my thyroid. Fingers crossed that it all works out! Good luck at the clinic!! Hope it brings good news!4

There is a term for not "seeing" yourself as a smaller version ... it's called Phantom Fat. There's a lot of stuff to read out there about it. I'll post a link below to the article I just read. Maybe doing a little research can help you adjust more quickly. Also --- CONGRATS on your weight loss!!

@finngirl61: I have arthritis in my feet too, and having lost some weight, I have to say this; if you can lose any, you will feel it almost immediately. My standing budget got about half again as great after the first 15 pounds, and is about doubled at thirty pounds off. So when you hurt less, you'll find you just naturally move a bit more.8

My boyfriend ordered a workout game for his Switch called Ring Fit Adventure, wow I worked up a sweat and it was fun! I burned almost as much in 45 minutes as I would’ve in one of my kickboxing classes. So, I think working out at home isn’t going to be too difficult for me now!
Hope everyone is having a great Monday!13 -
Thought I should do a more detailed message since my first one was so short, and I'm new here 😅
I started my journey February 2019. I had lots of ups, and downs trying to figure out the whole weight loss thing.
First thing I did was to take my thyroid medication like my doctor told me too...no skipping, no forgetting to refill it, I had to be accountable for my health.
I was unfortunately focusing more on exercise the first few months than on my diet.
The weight was coming off but sooooo slowly, I thought I was doing good with my diet, cutting out most bad foods and portion controlling what I ate but it wasn't enough.
I learned that I have/had a social eating problem...if someone else was eating then I would, if someone invited me out for food I would go even if I already had lunch/dinner.
I now say no to 4th meals and seconds.
In February this year I decided to start keto, and so far so good!
I'm still learning new things, I'm taking my diet seriously now!

Welcome!! One thing I've started to do is to add my supplements into my food plan. Since I take them all in the morning, I log them with my breakfast. Maybe you could log your medication as well. I find it helps me keep focus on what's important to me right now.2 -

Welcome! A lot of us are here starting over. My profile picture was back when I was 155 o_0 after losing 65 lb. I'm back, now losing again, and with a mindset that I'll have to log food forever, so might as well find things that make it as painless on me as possible.
You can do this.6 -
Good morning everyone, and welcome to all our newbies! This is a very supportive thread, and the more you post, the more it helps (for me, anyway- I'm a big offender when it comes to post count.
I struggled again yesterday. I'm struggling, I guess. But I see a pattern in it.
I wake up at 4. I get my coffee while I get on the computer to telework. I wait what seems like foreeeeeeever to make breakfast, but really it happens at 0530-0600. Then I get hungry again at 8. Then again at 10. Then again at 12. Then I'm off work, go play with babies, and eat dinner at 4.
That whole midmorning nosh session is setting me up for failure. I'm eating lots of calories early in the day, and having nowhere to go once I get off work. So I'm going to give a modified-for-coffee-purposes 16:8 a try. No breakfast until 8, which will at least reduce some of the midmorning noshing. Then it's not hard for me to be done for the day at or before 4 (we normally eat dinner that early), and that gives me enough room to go running at 6 at night, by which time Whatsisface will be done with his work and can watch babies while I go out.
So 0400: Coffee
0800: egg whites and goat cheese on toast
1200: ham sandwich
1600: whatever dinner is (today it's egg roll skillet)
1800: workout time
I'm a creature of habit- I could and do eat egg whites and herbed goat cheese on low calorie toast every day. Sometimes I switch it up with smoked salmon, goat cheese, and toast or english muffin on the weekend. Similarly, I've got a lot of ham to get through- one of our friends gave us 6 lbs!- and I'm the only one who likes it. So ham sandwiches on low calorie bread for the forseeable future. I could make salads from it, maybe I will if sandwiches get old. And there's plenty of wiggle room now in those 8 hours for snacks, which are critical to my success.
I think it's going to work. The hard part is going to be not eating before 8. It's not hard on the weekend, because I get to sleep in a little. It's hard to get up at 4 and wait that long, but it will be a good thing. And anything that unconsciously helps me reduce calories as opposed to trying to fight the morning snacks with willpower is good.11 -

Maybe you could come up with a couple of strategies to get you to 8am. Sometimes brushing your teeth and tongue will help stave off cravings. Or, chew one stick of gum. Perhaps do 10 jumping jacks and have a glass of water. How about water infused with lemon slices. Maybe a cup of ginger tea. OK, I know it sounds silly but tap the middle of your forehead for 20-30 seconds. Use a drop of jasmine essential oil to infuse air. Perhaps jog in place for 5 minutes or do stretches.
Good Luck!!5 -

@CupcakeCrusoe I also find myself eating every couple of hours throughout the morning and early afternoon. I definitely feel your struggle! I try to make sure I have several kinds of snacks (pistachios, white cheddar rice cakes, cottage cheese, cucumbers in vinegar) that I can have and not stray off course. Always in measured amounts, for logging. When I jumped back on the wagon a few weeks ago, I decided to try not eating between 7pm and 7am. Never thought it would work, but I am loving it! I feel like I have some control over my boredom and habitual eating, and the weight is slowly coming off.

Have a great week❣️9 -
@procolorer Thank you! I'm excited/nervous/terrified/anxious - really just all the feelings! I hope all of your results come back good and you are able to shed some light on what may be going on!!3

@smithmns414 Sadly my ob/gyn has decided I should suck it up for the next 4 months and then come to him. Very upsetting news today. I will be on the lookout for a new doctor here soon.
Feeling a bit upset and overly emotional today. I want my comfort meal but at the same time I don’t want to derail my progress. Meh.11 -
I have some more exciting news! This Saturday I’ll be getting certified as a Refit exercise instructor. I’ll be able to instruct classes. I can’t believe it! It’s totally out of my comfort zone but I LOVE Refit and I’m so excited to teach it and to have the opportunity to encourage others during their journey. Friday my baby turns 9 months old. The day before I had her I weighed in at 234.2. I never would have thought that 9 months later I’d be becoming a exercise instructor and weigh 55lbs lighter. I hated how I looks and felt but I wasn’t sure I could do it. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come!
Updated stats:

CW: 179.0

Planning on going to 150 once I reach my GW.10 -
I didn’t post on Sunday but read threads. I decided to take a break and have a relaxing weekend. No cooking. I did plan the food.
@speyerj congrats on your goal of a 9 mile run, nice NSV.
@Terytha ditto I think you loss shows! I liked you May 11 post. I think it is the real you.
@pamiede nice NSV
@Indigo3288 maintaining is hard to do.
@deegriggs28 I like your profile picture.
@AlexandraFindsHerself thanks for sharing your food plan for the week. Enjoy ring shopping.
@hessjansen It is the weekly deficit that matters. I would go for a slower more sustainable loss. Once you lose I am assuming you want to keep it off. Learn how to eat at the weight you want to be. Yu want your metabolism to work with you not against you.
@CupcakeCrusoe Wow that wasn’t A home renovation project that was a big bunch of home renovation projects. I just heard Goodwill has reopened with limited hours, locations and there are lines. I plan to get into one of those lines soon. I keep telling my husband he isn’t a garbage disposal.
@Erica122093 nice to see you.
@RavenStCloud seems like a good start to the month for you. I think it is good to take things 1 step at a time.
@cesse47 I really like your clean 30 min a day goal. I need that one. I need to NEAT it would give me - the non-exercise activity with benefits.
@procolorer have you been getting plenty of water?
@mmdeveau too bad alterations are expensive too. Yes I think it is hard to see differences in ourselves when we see ourselves every hour and every day.
@torihudson6 that is so cool! That makes life without the gym much easier.
@rpbarkernc congrats. I found a free Refit video to try Friday when I do a dance exercise video. I lost weight with my 1st pregnancy but not with my 2nd or 3rd. So good job!
This week is not going well. I didn’t make it on here yesterday for one. Remember I mentioned our back up fridge in the basement died? Instead of avoiding trips to the grocery store my husband has been getting ice for the cooler ever few days. Well yesterday morning our range died. It was old and had its problems but it worked. So when it died we said we need to replace it not try to fix it. So yesterday I was online looking at options. Then once it hit 5 and my husband was off work we hit Lowes and bought a range and a cheap refrigerator freezer to be delivered Friday. I had planned food for the week but we needed groceries so we got up at 7 AM this morning and hit the special senior shopping time. I find wearing a mask gets tiring. I do it for others and wish others would do it. Our County requires them since we have been the hardest hit and have a higher population density but some don’t comply.
I had this productive week planned but it went out the window. Not easy buying major appliances on unemployment. I am drinking my water and I will log but I am not pushing anything else today. I have tried to take the challenges in stride and have done well but today I am giving myself a day off. I feel tired of this and stretched thin. I am not giving up and I am not stress eating but not going to do my chapter or push exercise today. I am going to start the week tomorrow.
I have only lost 12-13 lbs but I can feel it. I lie in bed in the morning and I just feel thinner. Yes I have some pants that are looser but I haven’t lost that much. However sometimes I think some pounds are heavier than others in that they make more difference. So before yesterday I felt like @Rosie3579. I felt I was due for a woosh (wooshes for me are a lb or 2 as opposed to .6 pounds). Now I just want to do what I have been doing last week just keeping the weight down. That is actually a win for me since I use to pop up before losing. It is like I lose then maintain then lose. I think it is a way for my body to reset to a new weight instead of fighting me to go back up.
I need to get things ready for the deliveries so I think I will take @cesse47’s goal of cleaning each day to heart if only for the rest of the week. Starting tomorrow. I have the food planned and the groceries but we are getting Papa Murphy’s tonight. For 1 we have a salad we need to eat in the fridge and we need a break. We made dinner at home last night after spending the night and $$s at Lowe’s.
A cute story – On mother’s day I was reading on my bed with my daughter who was napping. (She had an assignment she had to get done the night before and had gotten up to have brunch with me for mother's day. My husband came in and asked me whether I wanted Pinot Noir, Full Sail ale or Mac n Jack (ale) with my dinner. My daughter doesn’t like alcohol that much and doesn’t like ale but despite being asleep she answered immediately in her sleep “Mac n Jack”. We were surprised so that is what we had. She was surprised when her Dad poured her some at dinner. So we told her the story. She decided she had made the best choice even though she was asleep. She gets that ability to answer questions in her sleep from her Dad. She turns 26 at the end of the month.

I have no idea why it’s sideways. Anyway, it’s crazy times working in the medical field. However, as a Tennessean during allergy season, these masks have been awesome! Usually, by this time of the year I’ve got a sinus infection. Awesome on the weight loss! And that was a cute story about your daughter!5 -
Well, this week is not going so well goal wise. I blame it on PMS and now TOM which just started this morning. Ugh.
Work is stressful. I work as a horticulturist at a public garden and our big push to get everything planted and our displays together starts now and will go through June. Still no word on if we will have any volunteers back to help. We are required to wear masks in my city, and at my work even when working outside. Monday and Tuesday it will be in the low 90's so that will be a test to see how we all do with the physical nature of our work combined with trying to breathe through masks. I hope none of us pass out!
Day by day. Step by step. We're going to get through this!9 -
Welcome newbies!
@KeriA Sorry that your appliances died around the same time, but it's good you were able to get replacements and at not too high a cost.
@rpbarkernc Congrats on the certification! That's sounds awesome.
So my weekly plan was to hit the gym 3 to 4 times, but there was another corona outbreak (in Seoul, not in my city, but infected people may have traveled here, so gyms are out), so I'm planning to do some early morning walks/hikes before work instead. Wish me luck.5 -

Gain still with me today so need to continue to be extra mindful of food choices. Mopped bathroom, hallway, and kitchen floors yesterday. Today plan to start cleaning the Dining Room. First to do is declutter ... and, boy, is there a lot to declutter. This seems to be my granddaughter's favorite dumping ground since it's the first room she comes into from the garage. 🤹♀️ Filled with new plants, shoes, dog leashes and harnesses, coats, mail, cat stuff, paint cans and equipment, 2 vacuums, 2 brooms and dustpans, clutter from the garage, ... I swear it'll take me several days just to declutter everything ... especially since she'll be adding as I'll be taking away. Have to figure out a way to get her to stop -- at least for now.
Hope Y'all have a great day!! 👋5
