@elise4270 and @shanaber : thanks for thinking of me! All is ....ok....here if you overlook our 37% unemployment rate.
I agree with you, Elise about Bruddah Iz (tho I like the late Dennis Kamakahi just as much...)
"Oooh. I don’t like “y’all” cuz I don’t like me?" Since I work in rehab, often with brain damaged or substance abuse folks, I call it a good day if I'm only called a f*****g c**t b***h once or twice a day....and in that environment it's hard to see myself as something worthy at times...
"Favorite food as a kid! And what was the first movie you can remember seeing at the theatre or drive-in"
Fried baloney (not bologna) sandwiches, and Tarantula-saw it at a drive in theater probably late 1950's.....and 60 years later, still have nightmares!
Virtual high-five for your upcoming surgery (since I know you abhor hugs). I'd invite you to stay at the guest house to recover, but our Canadian snowbirds are still there-they can't cross the closed border yet to go home!
I have entertained the thought of returning to the thread, but get lost in other "priorities." Still doing about 15 miles/week, tho. Maybe next month. In the meantime, for old time's sake:Taken at 69 Beach, Puako, Hawaii
...and DH's oil version of it:12 -
4 miles - plan was for 5 if my knee felt perfect, otherwise cut it short. Leg felt a little off, decided to stop before it hurt. Seems to have been a good decision, it’s feeling good now. Hard run but felt good when it was over. We heard a barred owl while running!
Re: ego. I try to bear in mind what CS Lewis once said: You know that one person who drives you absolutely crazy, who ruins every day of your life and you just don’t understand why they don’t get struck by lightning for being so obnoxious? You are that person to somebody else. Guarantee it. Your mom, your sister, your spouse, your child, your teacher, somebody out there has moments when you make them feel like their head is about to explode. Try to remember that when you are being driven crazy yourself.
On that note I really wish people who walk side by side would drop into single file when we pass them on the road. Today it was these two middle aged women who would definitely get called “Karen” if someone were to post their photos on the internet. On the subject of Karen becoming a word used for an over-privileged woman of a certain age who loves to complain, my sister’s name is Karen and she is a total Karen. She used to own a parakeet which had learned to imitate her nagging her husband!

@shanaber You are doing great just to get out there and walk. Don't get down on yourself. You have to listen to your body. You will get the situation taken care of and be back to your normal level of exercise soon. And, I kind of like the color of the shoes, though, like you, I would probably never chose that for myself.
@ContraryMaryMary Glad you are having some great runs!
@PastorVincent That's going to be really big! It's a greenhouse, right? I'm getting old and have forgotten already.
@HonuNui Glad to hear from you and I too love the picture and painting. Your husband is very talented!
@rheddmobile Glad you listened to your body and had a good run. Love the CS Lewis quote.

@HonuNui I've missed your beautiful pictures!
@rheddmobile I'm cracking up hearing about your sister Karen1 -
@rheddmobile I love that insight from C.S. Lewis, something useful for me to remember.1

@HonuNui Holy Smokes! Those are beautiful! My DD picked up painting, I'll share it with her! Perhaps I can get a honu painting out of her. I spent most of the day yesterday listening to IZ. Your guest house is a great place for Henry be "stuck". Glad they are safe, he is great company to have. It is so great to see an update from you. Thanks for the high five, as long as it not the left I'll take it. I'm falling apart Chelle, I have a frozen left shoulder and this chronic hip, back and leg pain. I think I just need a sandy beach and a few drinks, sunshine, and some swims with the the turtles, maybe a good cry. Eric has a note on the fridge to return to Hilo as a resident someday. I just hope I'm not too broken to enjoy it. I figured you'd have retired by now. I miss you guys, probably think of you daily. mahalo nui loa. Many blessing your way.7

Yep. 24'x26' or thereabouts. 12-foot ceiling to make the arch.1 -

I had a pretty good run today. Just 6.25 miles. I had to cut it a little short since I was pressed for time. It was pretty humid and the first couple of miles were kind of hard, but then I settled in and enjoyed it. I really like running this time of year. It is still usually a little dark when I start out, but for most of my run it is light. I wish I could always run just as the sun is coming up.
@HonuNui It's good to see you back. I've missed your snorkeling pictures. Love the turtle photo and the painting is awesome!

@Teresa502 - Love that you ran for the bees! Did they have a medal? I could just imagine some really cute ones!
It did have a really cute medal. I haven't received it yet and now I can't seem to find a photo of it either!
Nice shoes!

Cheers to those who have been having great runs recently! Way to go!
And hugs to those who are not running like they want to right now, and to anyone else who wants one! Take care of yourselves and be kind to yourselves.
@HonuNui such a gorgeous photo inspiration and painting. I'm in awe of that kind of talent. Just amazing. Glad to see you check in here.
@elise4270 sounds like just the thing - "I think I just need a sandy beach and a few drinks, sunshine, and some swims with the the turtles, maybe a good cry". Wish it was possible to go do that, but maybe the drinks, sunshine, and the good cry can happen. I'm thinking about trying that combo later today! Hang in there!rheddmobile wrote: »Re: ego. I was wavering on a the where, when and how run plan for the day (it's another gorgeous day, bordering on getting hot but I'm not complaining yet) when a friend texted she was running at 10, so I agreed to meet her. We decided to run trails so it was slow going but really beautiful and not crowded. I estimated to her the route I had in mind would be about 4 miles, which I was only off by 1.5 miles. Don't trust me for judging distance.

@rheddmobile - love the quote and especially the comment about your sister and her parakeet! We should all have a parakeet that mimics our worst that we would never realize otherwise. We would hate it but our behavior would likely improve.3

Brrrrr it's getting cold now. I've been back from my morning run for about 30 mins now and I still feel cold. I think im gonna have to be realistic and wear a second layer next time. I'm a very stubborn runner and hate changing my ways lol.
I've reset my plan for an early September race. I toyed with the idea of running it in July anyway but frankly I want my first marathon to be with all the pomp and fun of an actual race. The new dates don't put me back too much really, and I may do longer runs on the weekend than the plan says just to keep my level up while I wait for the plan to catch up. Basically I'm doing the middle few weeks for a couple of months instead.
Love the new earphones. Definitely worth buying.
No word on my garmin. I emailed them asking for an update but nothing so far. They only got it Monday, so 4 days ago. Sigh. No I'm not doing well without it.5 -
@Avidkeo glad you love the new earphones. Garmin simply needs to understand we don't want to wait for our watches when we order one and even more when they are broken.1
