Yay, I do not even know what to train for anymore. Maybe I will just get fat again so I have a reason to run - to lose weight and get healthy.2 -
@Camaramandy648 I pray the test comes back negative! You are in a no win situation with the isolation. Also praying that you make the best decision give the circumstances.0
-
@Camaramandy648 I truly hope your son's test comes back soon, and negative. I wonder if your doctor ordered a comprehensive test. Because if it comes back negative, then the lab runs all kinds of other tests to see if he has any number of other illnesses (so you can get some answers for his symptoms). When my wife's got her Explanation of Benefits from her insurance, it showed the lab ran about 20+ other tests because it came back negative. They charged the insurance over $11,000!!! Yes, you read that right. The insurance settled it down to about $1000. But when she called to question it, they said they ran all those other tests because the doctor wrote a 'comprehensive order'.
Just some info from someone with past experience. Take it for what you will.3 -
@Camaramandy648 my heart is just breaking for you. I couldn't isolate myself from Skip if I believed she was sick though I certainly could if I believed I was regardless of how it would affect me, so I feel your pain. Can you get him a mask so that you can a least be with him in the room, wipe down everything all the time, wash your hands like a crazy woman, stay 6' away in the room etc etc. Praying for a quick negative result.2
-
@Camaramandy648 - I am so sorry your son (and you) is having to go through all of this. I agree that I could not isolate my child either especially when there is no other caregiver in the house. I think if you can get him to wear a mask, make it fun, even with a bandana, etc. for the next couple of days that would help. I also think one of the reasons they are taking it so seriously, not to freak you out, but the issue with the inflammation complications in kids who have or have had it. Take care and know all of our thoughts are with you! 💕2

Today I took as a cross training day. I played doubles tennis this morning for about 1.5 hours. I came home, fully intending to go for a short recovery run, but my dad wanted me to try to get him an appointment with his doctor - just not feeling like he should, a little short of breath, weakness, dizzy. He hasn't been out anywhere hardly at all, so I'm sure it isn't the C word. It may have something to do with his heart or his COPD. Anyway, I called the VA. The call center lady sent an URGENT request to the doctor's nurse, who did not respond right away. So, she said he should call me back soon. They still haven't - 2 hours later.
Anyway, I decided to do an uphill treadmill walk instead, so I could read and still get in a couple of miles. I walked at 3.8 mph with the incline up to 6% incline for most of it. Garmin must have lost it's mind, because it kept saying my HR was only 58 to 68 the entire time. I know it had to be higher than that. Then, when I quit and sat down, it read 88 bpm. What? I'm sure I burned a lot more than the 58 calories Garmin reported.

You are all amazing for your thoughts and prayers and advice and insights.
I haven’t been able to stay away from him. Because I know he is miserable and I am his safe place. I just can’t.
But I have been as smart as i can be, given the circumstances.
@Avidkeo i never answered you - he is 11.
I managed to make him sit outside in the sun with me for 15 minutes - we will do it again in a bit.
I hope they ordered a comprehensive test. I called his dad to say if it isn’t covid then i want a spinal tap to test for meningitis. I know that sounds crazy but it isn’t that crazy. My daughter had it when she was seven and almost died and the symptoms were the same.
Since I want to stay sane - or since I have lost
My mind - i don’t know which - signed up for an aravaipa summer binge. 110 miles in ten days. Is that an ultra? I hope it is. I’m itching for a good long run.
We will get through this. It’s all we ever do. Overcome. Pray. Worship. Overcome. It’s just what we do, no matter what else.
Okay?! We got this!6 -

I juat woke and saw your news.
As @PastorVincent said, your situation is chalk and cheese compared with mine. If I had a sick child, nothing on this earth would prevent me from being with them. Especially as I've already been exposed. I have asthma too, and frankly wouldn't care two whits if my daughter, who also has asthma, got it. She would be getting all the cuddles on the couch. Also you are a solo parent. Wtf do the drs expect you to do, slide his food over to him using a stick or some such BS. You live in the same damned house. You are sharing the same space. Anything he has, you are already exposed to. So I think it's completely safe to ignore that bit of insane advice. I think its coming from a place of "we have to give some advice, because of we don't and she dies, we are screwed legally" - I'm sorry but your healthcare system is an absolute joke (eep too close to political. Sorry)
But our situations are also so completely different because I live in a country where frankly the chance of catching covid at this point is so ridiculously low, its not worth talking about, yet we still take precautions. You live in a country where not only is it running rampant, people can't even agree on how to control the spread. My heart goes out to you so much. Its so dames hard.
And big hugs for the test. As a parent the hardest thing to do is force something on them thats necessary but causes them pain, both physical and psychological. It's so easy to do it to other people's kids, but I cannot watchy own get treatment.
I hope the result comes back fast, and I really hope its negative, and I REALLY hope he perks up again soon. Kia kaha.2 -
Oookkk since I'm getting controversial, here is some running news.
I had to change my plan setting yesterday cause it had me running a marathon at 5:30 min/km. Hell no. I am confident I could do 6 min/km but KNOW I could do 6:20 so changed it. Which screws everything. Oh well.
Oh and I think i picked the wrong plan, novice 2 not 1.so am tempted to change it back to 1. Novice 2 doesn't have many lower km weeks, which makes me nervous. Sigh.
So today is my long run day, because of plan changing, I'm supposed to run 5k. Nope haha. I'm going out to do 17,and may extend that if I'm feeling good.
Soleus continues to niggle. It's better with massage and not getting worse, but I'm going to avoid hills as much as possible, so the run today will be along our costal walkway, the flat part.
After last week's short 10k, I'm looking forward to a longer distance.3 -
@Camaramandy648 Praying for you and your son. For what it’s worth, there is mixed evidence about Covid and asthma, with some researchers even wondering if something about asthma is protective since the numbers aren’t turning out the way they expected.

I agree with @PastorVincent that it seems very likely you already have been exposed, so isolating seems pointless. Do what you need to do, we are all praying for you.1 -
@AlphaHowls - you are amazing!
@quilteryoyo - I hope your dad is ok.
Today I got out for a power walk using the peloton app. It was lovely out, so cool and cloudy and at one point it got really dark and smelled like rain although it never rained down to where I was at least. I saw all kinds of birds and some baby bunnies and squirrels playing and running around in the dirt.
One thing I did notice today is it seems like Strava gives me a shorter distance when I walk vs when I run. The same exact route with extra distance today walking was 0.25 mi shorter per Strava than previous runs and really should have been 0.25mi longer with the extra bits. So strange but I have thought there was this discrepancy for a while but never actually sat down to look at it.

I want to stress that in this day of instant information we often jump to conclusions based on incomplete data and are later shocked to find out it was wrong. It seems like its been YEARS with this bug, but we have not even gone through a single rotation of the seasons since the serious study started. Early on it was ASSUMED Asthma was a bad thing to have cause this is a respiratory illness. That was it. That was the entirety of the information we had to work with.
It will be years until we really understand this bug. Until then, we just keep making the best guesses we can and carrying on.2 -

Cooler but still super humid this morning. I just did one loop of the lakes very slowly. I felt like it was so breezy and cool when I started but, was hot and sweaty before long.
We were supposed to get thunderstorms at any point today but it held off. Until the moment I had to run from the grocery store to my car when the skies let loose. The parking lot was immediately like a lake and I was soaked in seconds with my face mask plastered to my face. Fun times!5 -
Well i had to do the sensible thing today.
Started out on my long run, and at only half a km the pain in my calf was so bad I was starting to limp. So I stopped. And I'm going to take a week off and get some physiotherapy. Clearly I'm not getting better.
Always listen to your body.9 -

Yes!!!! You got this!!!0 -
@Avidkeo 100% agree - our healthcare system is a joke! That’s all i can say or i too will go too far and I’ll ruin this thread lol. Also good on you for resting! PT has done wonders for me and I wish I had listened to all of you sooner
No news yet - i expect it will be Sunday night before we know anything.
I want to run so bad, I was thinking maybe just around the neighborhood in a few hours but then I think, what if I have this thing and somehow give it to a vulnerable person and they die?
So maybe just strength training tonight, at home.
My daughter is as jolly as ever and Patchen sat outside in the sun with me multiple times today and he ate every time food was offered. I think the fact that he is hungry is a good, good sign.8 -
@Camaramandy648 - hoping for the best for your son, and for all of you!0
-
@Camaramandy648 Biggest hugs to you and your son. Wishing the best news in Sunday.
@shanaber @skippygirlsmom I find it fascinating as well, especially that I ca run like I do. Though I suspect this why my heart rates are higher at exercise. And why I probably will never be much faster than I am now. A little maybe but not by much.
@Avidkeo Yes probably the right thing. I never listen and always takes me longer to heal. So yeah. Hope,it gets better with the PT.
Was a rest day today. It’s still raining here and has been for 3 days straight. Today was the worst day with many storms. We are under flash flood warnings. Tomorrow is usually long run day, but it’s supposed to storm in the morning again and have a break about 11 am. It will be hot and humid by then. BUT! Sunday will be 75 and lows in the 50’s. Much better right!? So gonna switch the days and figure out some sort of cross training tomorrow, or take another rest day!5 -
@Avidkeo Sorry about your calf, but glad you were sensible and stopped. Hopefully the rest and PT will take care of the issue.

Got 3 more miles in this evening. Gorgeous outside. Brings me to 36 out of 40. Gotta do 2 and 2 - think I can!5

10k night run. Was feeling depressed about running the same spots so we ran another direction to a tiny park with a lake. Very pretty with the moon reflected in the water. It’s summer here now, everything has stopped smelling like honeysuckle and the lemony smell of magnolia is overwhelming at night. There are so many big old magnolia trees in this area. Not a fast run but my morale has improved by going someplace pretty.
That’s it for me for May, since tomorrow is a lifting day. I haven’t even kept track of my mileage since I was running by feel since my knee was injured. It’s still not great (and if it is a meniscus tear as I suspect they take forever to fully heal) but doing well enough that it doesn’t stop me from running, so that’s a success. And I finished my race series which was my other goal for May.9 -

Really didn't plan on running today. Was just going to go for a walk because both feet hurt (right PF, left top outside tendinitis). But I knew I was only 5 miles away from my 100 miles for the month, so turned it into a slow jog/walk interval. Need to take some time off to try to heal (pun intended).

May 26th- 2.7 miles
May 30th- 3 miles
While life got in the way and I didn't run for 3 days, but I can still meet my goal as long as I run tomorrow. I assure you without this group I would not have run 3 miles today to make sure I will meet my goal tomorrow
