After weeks of observation in my city, I must know: what is to be gained by honking your car horns and slowly riding alongside someone wearing a mask, sunglasses, hat, and headphones (or a combo of at least 3 of these items)?
Are you all lost? Wondering what time it is?
It certainly cannot be a courtship tactic of any high success rate, could it?
Even in the "pre-mask era" when you could be somewhat surer that the bleeting and hollering was targeting your gender preference, I couldn't see this having a high success rate yet it seems to continue so... explain on behalf of mankind, please.2 -

They're trying to assert, what they believe to be, their patriarchal dominance over women. Can confirm. When I lived in Japan, there was a group of women (of which I was a part) walking up the street to go hiking on the mountain at the end of the road. As we passed by the shipyard, we suddenly heard a group of boisterous Japanese men start off-key singing "You Are So Beautiful" and cat-calling us while we're sweaty, walking up a hillside in summer and clearly not in anything remotely feminine.
On the one hand, it was hilarious and we had a nice chuckle. On the other hand, it was well.. the same as it would be in the states or I imagine anywhere else men inhabit.1 -
