@nickibeard3 - honestly losing weight does not need to be complicated and it does not need to be hard. It's simple: eat fewer calories than you burn. I promise you, that is all you need to do and you just need to do it say, 85% of the time. How much fat, carbs or protein you eat is a matter of preference. But most people feel less hungry when they are getting adequate protein, so try that and see how it goes. I also suggest you don't worry about whether the food you are eating is "clean". The only food in my book that isn't clean is one that dropped on the floor. Yes, you will feel better (less hungry, more energy) if more of the food you eat is not processed, but I believe there is no bad food, only bad logging.
Here's a great post to get you started on your journey:

Hi. I've been trying to lose weight for years and have a hard time sticking to any plan. But I'm turning 40 in September so... I need to do this!!
Sw/cw 281.6lbs
Goal for July: 275
Goals: drink more water daily, stationary bike 4x a week, healthier foods and maybe try intermittent fasting7 -
29F - 5'4"
SW: 224
CW: 208
July GW: 199
UGW: 120
I know losing 9lbs in a month will be tough but I desperately want to be under 200 and I'll do pretty much anything to get it.
My goal is to log 100% of the food I eat for the rest of July (at which point I hope it will become a habit). Please don't let me slack!7 -
@orangequilt thank you!! I think when I tried to trim the quote it lost it 🤷♀️
@speyerj great work on the half marathon! Completely agree with the no bad food. Also to add, no beating yourself up if you've had a bad meal, can continue after it is finished, all your hard work isn't wasted.
@wyndstar2000 I have been intermittently fasting, 18:6 whilst trying to keep my calories down in my 6 hours. Completely clean fasts so only water or black tea in my 18 hours of fasting, really keeps me focused to eat well in my 6 hours of eating. Highly recommend. I know they say you can eat what you like when not fasting but I don't think that would work for me. I use the app zero to track my times.
@SquidVonBob I am by no means great at tracking, but have found adding my own meals really helpful for the daily logging as tend to eat the same meals fairly frequently.

I'm gonna have to go over calories today, I'm starving.
I think it's a side effect of the several dozen painkillers I had to take after wrenching my neck.10 -

I took a weekend off of eating to my calories limit and instead ate at maintenance or below just to take a little mini break and recharge myself. Yesterday I let myself have a carb heavy day eith chocolate and pancakes and I dont regret it one bit. Today, I'm back on track of eating only to my self set limit of 1,590 and focusing on good carbs, proteins and fats.
I've definitely been feeling the Covid blues around here, which is a current hot spot in the states. Sometimes, it feels like none of my other friends and family are taking it seriously. So I'm taking a break from social media as well and focusing on positive goals and healthy families.
School was supposed to start this month for my 8 and 5 year old kids, but they've delayed the start date to mid August. And honestly, I'm uncomfortable with sending them in, as my husband has chronic pancreatitis (he spent 60 days in thr hospital and 4 months of disability with this in 2019) and could possibly be high risk with covid symptoms. So, we are planning on home schooling for thr time being.
I run my own business and because of this damned virus, I'm putting much of my business on hold to care for my family instead. So here is to a healthy July where we all meet out goals or do a great job trying and not be hard on ourselves.12 -
Hi all,
I would like to jump back on the wagon and join in this too. Been around MFP for nearly a decade, back in 2012/2013 I somehow got down to my lowest adult weight of 171/172lbs. I have since gained it all back and a lot more due to varying reasons.. it is frustrating to think I would of been close to goal but now time to move forward and back down!

Good morning everyone!
I've read all your posts, but I'm only tagging the last page...
@Tarzan37 it's been so rough for you recently, but the important thing is, you're still here. You're a warrior.
@nadiasabrin92 welcome! Tell me more about this dance challenge!
@cesse47 congratulations on the loss! I hope the time away will help with annoyance, my husband and I have dreamed of giving each other a break by one of us taking the kids away for a day, leaving the other with the house to themselves, and then reverse it. One day...
@planktonbye that's great advice. And you can do it!
@darksunapril it's so annoying how men lose faster than us, isn't it? You can do it. And if 1200 is too low, no shame in that. I've never been able to stay at 1200 for very long, myself.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 you're almost there! It's going to be so nice to be in the new place!
@speyerj that's an amazing time, and you should be really proud.
@wyndstar2000 you've got this!
@SquidVonBob sending friend request now, for keeping you on track. I started about where you are. You can do it.
@Terytha One day isn't going to erase your progress. You've got this. I hope your neck feels better.
@k1975lr I feel you on the covid blues. My four year old is acting out because the poor thing hasn't seen friends in person in months. I hope that people stop being idiots with a quickness, and that somehow, we get to the point where we're testing and tracing enough to turn this around before a vaccine.
@mszoueb Welcome! You've got this, we're all here for you.
Whoo. That's everyone.
As for me, I'm currently a little up on the scale, but it's TOM, so it's expected. Got in about 4k steps on my very early morning walk, prelogged my food for today, and we're looking good so far.
Countdown to the end of this year: 25 weeks
Loss at 1 lb/week: 160
Countdown to Wedding Season: 41 weeks
Have a great day and, if I don't see y'all again until Friday weigh in day, a great week!

I have the Covid blues here too. I live in a town in Texas that's a tourist mecca and Main St has been absolutely PACKED every weekend. No one wears a mask, and they make fun of you if you do. We moved here from Atlanta in the middle of the pandemic and it has been so surreal. The governor just issued a mask mandate but it's so frustrating because my husband and I have been on a total lockdown since March 14 and it feels like we're starting all over again. Sorry for the rant but it's just maddening. I really like your plan of taking a break from social media as I agree that it makes it so much worse.9 -
@CupcakeCrusoe tell me about it lol, I'll try to aim around that amount of calories I think but not be too hard on myself if it is anything under 1500.
@changeforeverlj that is a fantastic start to the month, well done!!
I was wondering about those weights that the app tells you after submitting your diary, have other people been able to meet them?5 -
Still working on progress but I did a no-no and purchased a dress in a size smaller than I should've as motivation. I'm really hoping it works because the last time I did this the skirt didn't move off my rack... in fact, it's still there. Oh to be a size 12 again...5

@darksunapril - that message "if every day were like today, in 5 weeks you'd weigh..." is nice to see when you've had a good day, but how often is every day like the one before? But it does make me smile when I see it give a super low weight, but no, my weight didn't come off as quickly as they predicted.6

Hi ladies, joining you all once again. I haven’t been on since April. I lost my phone that month (after turning my house upside down I came to the conclusion that my twins threw it in the bin and the garbage truck took it the next day without me realising it). I lost all my logins to everything I had and mfp was one of them. Anyways, since then I have fallen off the wagon terribly. I had lost 20lbs and I’ve since gained half that weight back 😫 I’ve been extremely unmotivated and unbelievably lazy. So since finally remembering my login to mfp I’ve decided it’s time to get back into the swing of things. Even if it’s at a slow pace.
My goal for this week will be to try to stick to my calories and not go overboard. Also try to incorporate a bit of walking again. It’s winter here in Australia and the cold weather has made me extremely lazy.

GW for this month 94kg (207lbs)10 -

💜Late Monday check in.
Didn't lose any weight, but I did go all out on my birthday dinner over the weekend, and I have no regrets.
I've incorporated fish (salmon) back into my no dairy/meat diet and my protein count has obviously improved a lot. I really hated the protein powder I was putting into my smoothies (although I probably just haven't found the right one), and getting it from a natural source is more appealing.
Anyway, still looking for exercise videos I can click with. Couldn't find Jillian Michael's The 30 Day Shred on YouTube(found lots of people working out to it though), so if anyone knows of anything similar, let me know. Thanks!💜5 -

Hi Raven,
Not sure if this would be of help but I've came across - https://youtube.com/watch?v=MgqDtJLbLHY which shows someone doing level 1 but only with audio instruction - there may be other youtube videos with the other levels. Not sure where you are in the world but the 30 day shred should be on Amazon for like £4 or £5 (also in shops) if you wished to purchase a copy1 -
Woo hoo. Hit my first 10 lb goal. No, I realize it's not a lot in the grand scheme of things, since I want to be about 40 more lbs down, but it's a start. My sister and I are encouraging/competing in 10 lb increments and I said I'd send her something as a congratulations when she hits her goals as encouragement--probably garden related because she has a fantastic garden.
So, now I'm on to my next goal of 196 lbs, which even seeing that number as an attainable goal is seriously awesome.15 -
@darksunapril I've been tracking those weights at the bottom and have never lost that much in 5 weeks, its almost 5kgs less than what you currently weigh at that time. I'm going to be here for a long time as I still need to lose 27kgs, so steady and slow wins the race...this time around!!

JULY GOALS ---
(1) Log all food and beverages honestly; Drink 10+ water -- MEASURE IT!!
(2) Exercise 30 min minimum (3000 steps) on hold
(3) Clean 30 min per day: house or yard or declutter on hold
TASKS FOR TODAY ---
Feed the animals - done
Vacuum and Mop kitchen floor
Sweep and Mop bathroom floor
Do 15 min of yardwork: Weed Whack north and east perimeters everything on hold
got way too involved with yardwork. hips, lower back both are killing me ... hate trying to get up cause it hurts so darn much. then, hate to sit down ... same reason. got a lot done, but should know better at my age. I'd been pacing myself pretty well initially. for some reason on Sunday, just kept going. this old body is letting me know it did not appreciate it!!!
Today my hips and lower back are a bit better, just enough to let me know my right shoulder and wrist also hurt like the devil (from using the weed whip, I'm sure). So, gonna hold off one more day of doing nothing, taking meds, resting and elevating, etc. Tomorrow, I'll start to s-l-o-w-l-y get back into my tasks.
For those who've lost, Congrats!! Welcome Back to any new folks or those who may be rejoining.
For any who stayed the same or had a small gain ... Hang In There!!
Have a great day Y'all !! 🌞9 -
@mszoueb Thanks for the suggestions. I'm currently working abroad in Asia and I have a bunch of JM's dvds back at home, so I'm just looking for something free and easy to watch while I'm here. Preferably with the actual person doing the instruction, because it's easier to focus and I need all the help I can get!
I don't have an Amazon account, but a friend reminded me to check Hoopla (a Canadian/American website and app that you sign into with your library card) and they actually have a bunch of workout dvds. I'm super excited to try them because one is JM's shred for beginners and there are some other dance inspired workouts from other people!5 -
@speyerj this is very true, the weight that popped today and yesterday made me smile as I would have told you it would have been an unattainable goal this time last year. So fingers crossed.
@changeforeverlj slow and steady is working for me, definitely less hungry and fewer cravings than before. Even though I'd love for it to be quicker, working and staying off is the big goal.
@k1975lr great start 🙂 how lovely to have your sister along for the journey. Did she send you something for hitting your goal?3 -
@RavenStCloud I have been using the app HIIT Down Dog which has some good workouts, also is a yoga version of the app0
-
@darksunapril Thanks! I'll check it out.0
