Would love to know who disagreed with my post about death certificates and why, since it’s simply facts and not opinions, and disagreeing with facts doesn’t make a lot of sense to me!6

Went to the dentist for a cleaning on Friday—screening questions on the phone, called when I arrived, more screening questions & temperature check while masked, outside, front door locked before/after entrance—no non masked/temp checked person is getting in there!
Hygienist masked, gloves, w face shield, couldn’t polish teeth bc of possible aerosols.
2 patients in whole office at a time, and she was wiping down all the things we had to swish peroxide rinse before starting...glad I don’t have a strong gag reflex! I’m fine w that, just really wanted to see if the filling I thought was chipped was (yup. And has been since right after lockdown. Hoping not a lot of extra decay, but need a crown now). Covid is costing me a crown and a new retainer and months of new TMJ pain from teeth shifting bc previous retainer didn’t work w crown I got right bf Covid. Not to mention front teeth are now crooked when they never had been...so probably another round of invisiline. Bah, Covid.
Noticed they are charging us $20 per visit for PPE. Dentist is friendly w my husband and they were commiserating about how hard it was to get PPE for physician/dentist offices—dentist spent $10K at the beginning of lockdown on PPE for his solo office. I’m sure it’s been more since then—that was when he was only seeing emergencies.7 -
Talked to two people the other day that just made me angry. Both are required to wear masks for work, one takes his off whenever he thinks he can get away with it, the other ripped out the inner layers of mask, leaving thinnest of outer tissue type layer so he can technically comply while really not. I mean, why??? It’s like me, in total frustration, thinking of my impulsive and willful 4yo, “Why can you not just do the right thing??”14

Remember those no-smoking sections in restaurants. Smoke knows no boundaries. It took awhile and many pitched a ring-tailed fit when No Smoking became the rule. No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service is stepping up to the plate to save others. I saw a lorra, lorra ultra strong men and women with masks on and my respect for them tripled. In the parking lot of the small grocery store the locals were giving each other a thumbs UP and telling each other how much they cared from a distance.
I remember hearing that having a non-smoking section in an enclosed area was like having a no-peeing area in a pool.
Mask use is still quite substantial here, despite the fact that we only have one currently identified active case and a week's worth of negative test results. Although it's probably highest among women, and older folks, I see plenty of men and young people wearing them. At this point we don't have a mandate, the provincial recommendation is "face covering where physical distancing is a challenge".
Sanitizer is recommended when hand washing isn't possible. I can't use alcohol-based sanitizer as it causes contact dermatitis so I have to carry my own bottle of non-alcohol sanitizer since some stores have made hand sanitizing mandatory for entrance. I carry my own soap too as most of the commercial quality detergents are too harsh. I used the stuff in the bathrooms at work twice (forgot my little bottle before I went in) and the skin on my fingers has opened up in about five places. If I'd been using sanitizer regularly since March, I'd have no skin left on my hands at this point.10 -
My local county (in Virginia) just tentatively announced that grades 5 - 8 and high school will be on some kind of split schedule, but grades K - 4 will be regular everyday in class. As of right now my little nephews will be attending, though it sounds like they will be driven to school rather than taking the bus. My parents have recently started having my brother, SIL, and the boys over to their house and I asked if they will reconsider that once school starts and they said "we'll see". We have had relatively few cases here in Central VA and don't know anyone whose gotten it, and I think they're really convinced it's going to stay that way. There's really nothing I can say at this point, I just have to hope that's the case, or they at least go back to being more careful in time if things accelerate.
It's really bizarre seeing two people who were so over protective when we were little, and are so afraid of lots of let's say modern ideas, be so lackadaisical about this thing.
On a positive note, our parent company is still preaching everyone who possibly can working from home and masks mandated everywhere except if you're alone in your office if you come into work, so that's one thing I'm grateful I don't have to worry about!4 -
Did everybody see the bus driver who was assaulted by a couple people, all over mask requirements; he died due to extensive brain injuries.
WTF is wrong with people???? They need extensive jail time, hopefully in a Covid ward of some kind. I'm sorry, I wouldn't wish Covid on my enemies but really, to me that'd be justice working at its best.

I recall being surprised that stuff like that was apparently happening there too.
A friend of mine took the bus recently, and she said most were wearing them, but not all. I wish the drivers were enforcing them here, or refusing to let people on. Possibly some are, some aren't.1 -

Possibly a scrolling thing, but it's tempting to believe this thread is frequented by one of the drive-by grudge-disagreers, from looking at some of the patterns. 🤷♀️2 -

It's been hard on my parents to not visit their great-grandchildren, but I tell them often how proud I am that they are taking it seriously. They also know I would insist on 2 weeks isolation if they did and being able to socialize with me has made this much easier on all of us.5 -

Now, I wasn’t moving patients on a regular basis before this virus (it just so happened that my facility was going through productivity reviews when it hit) so I didn’t have many interactions with visitors in the rooms, but my team had told me that the best part about visitor restrictions was that they no longer had to deal with family members telling them how to do their jobs.

Her mask was on at this point. I explained that I was checking in to take him down for his test, that I had to grab his chart and would have someone come in to see about food, would find out where the ice/water machine was and be right back to take care of that. After learning where to get the ice, I was on my way back and here comes my friend, who works in EVS, carrying the pitcher. Apparently the wife went into the hall and chased my friend down. Deb said the woman wasn’t very nice about it, either. Got back to the room, started doing my thing, and the mask is off, she is well within six feet of me, talking the whole time. I’m trying to get him out the door and her to put her mask back on. This one did, so there’s that.
I can handle someone being pushy and rude, because that was how people were before all this started, but to be in my space with your mask off? That is just inconsiderate, ignorant or both.
If one hard rule is to keep your mask on to visit your loved one? Just do it! You’re protecting every single healthcare worker that enters the room.
The best thing is FOR SURE the lack of visitors. I'm still with 100% covid patients, so we havent started letting anyone back in, thankfully.8 -

A friend of mine took the bus recently, and she said most were wearing them, but not all. I wish the drivers were enforcing them here, or refusing to let people on. Possibly some are, some aren't.
Unfortunately the driver would rather take a chance with the possible virus vs possible physical altercation.4 -

@Juliemouse83, visiting people in the hospital and they're *still* not masking up? Unbelievable. What will it take to convince some people??? Oh wait, there's a news story about all those Covid parties going on, involving people who don't believe it's real. And 1 of the young participants is just barely living with the final throes of Covid, regretting that he didn't believe the reality. Why do so many people not believe until it's too late? Certainly they don't want to infect the person they care enough to visit do they? SMH So, I guess the only way to make them believe is for them to contract this miserable nasty life-changing virus.

There was a 30 year old guy in TX that reportedly has died who thought COVID-19 was a hoax until he was dying from it. A post on FB by another person with the view that COVID-19 will drop out of the news cycle Nov 4, 2020 as if it is a hoax. I wonder what is being taught in high school level health science these days?
That was very sad about the bus driver assault and is the reason I just move away from those not wearing a mask. KY now has a mask mandate when in public places where social distancing is not possible but it does not seem to have an enforcement mandate associated with it. Talk is cheap but enforcing it can be expensive.
This morning the news of two law officers being ambushed in Texas, food chain supply issues in the news and other social unrest I decided to go to WalMart for core food and personal needs. They had a large new sign printed up at the one remaining entrance about the mask mandate but the employee at the door did not say anything to the ones not wearing a mask at the entrance or when shopping. As with the case of the bus driver you shared we know that the virus is helping push some over the edge so one is best not to make waves and die because of it.
It is good to not wish COVID-19 on one's enemy because it could lead to the death of one's friend. It looks like much of the USA may look like New York City a couple months ago but locals are still heading out to the beaches in FL I see on FB. The governor knows he can expect to lose his job if he closes the beaches again and may lose it if he does not. If the article that we can expect to be in this pandemic until 2022 proves to be correct we are in a world of hurt.
While typing this I have gone to the door twice because I thought I heard knocking but it turned out to be people down at the bridge target practicing and they are not using 22 rim fire hand guns and rifles either or I would not hear them shooting. Over the past 20 years many have been getting armed in case of social unrest like that couple in St. Louis (USA) last week protecting "their" property. There are many millions of rounds of ammo out there in every community in the USA and some that are ready to use it. The USA is not a place of all like minded citizens but that may be true of the entire free world today.
Coronavirus prep is getting more complex as the numbers of cases and deaths keep rising with no end in sight from what the professionals are saying but we knew that when the marches and counter marches started several months ago.6 -
Our WI county is in a "surge" now and spouse and I have basically been going out only for essential stuff since early March. But one of his ball playing friends (in the demographic hardest hit by infection, who has not been social distancing as far as I know) is getting married this month and wants him there ... indoor wedding at a tiny place with (he says) a dozen or so people there, also from "surge" communities. He says he's going, despite the fact that within the last 4 months he's had a mild stroke & a pacemaker implanted. I voiced my opinion fairly reasonably (I thought) and his response was, well you don't have to come along. He's a 73 year old mule.
Well, after a week of covid data speedily moving in the wrong direction in our area, he decided he could send regrets to the happy couple and not risk his health (and mine). I am greatly relieved

That is not encouraging if it is proven factual. Actually some people have the more common flu types over and over. We just do not have hard science on COVID-19 yet but that should come down the road.3 -

I don't think a physical altercation would be very likely here (you can't get on until you pay, you can't get on without a mask), at least not in the places I've taken buses. My friend said most people were wearing them, and the bus crowd tends to be older on average. Maybe in some parts of the South and West sides it would be different.
I went to the post office downtown last week and had to ask for help finding a package at the desk. There are big signs that masks are required, and everyone was wearing them and standing on the dots that social distance those in line, but then some young woman with a bike (I also doubt bikes are allowed in the building) came up and stood right next to me without a mask. I moved sideways to get away from her (I was at the counter being helped, not in line), but didn't say anything because I am conflict avoidant in public and wasn't really in the mood for the "okay, Karen" or whatever thing she was likely to say, but I was slightly annoyed their security didn't tell her to put a mask on. But since I didn't say anything, I can't really complain, I suppose. I always find it surprising when people are just so blatant in disregarding the rules, though, since I can't imagine doing that.6 -

My daughter's hands break out terribly from almost all soaps, but sanitizer doesn't seem to bother her. Then again it's only like once a week she uses it (church, or she's been to the doctor once).
They did a soap substitution that gave her the worst rash I've seen on her hands. We had another "unusual" soap once when it was all they had, and it set us back on the rash again.
She now uses Cetaphil or Cerave face wash. We don't carry it around, as it seems once at church or something won't hurt, but I feel your pain.2 -

Ugh, this doesn't make me hopeful about my TMJ getting better. Although I see why my dentist wants to hold off on any night guards until all my work is complete. I've been to the dentist several times since covid hit, I was not charged extra for PPE.
It was said earlier - shouldn't dentists already be wearing masks and gloves? They just need to wear them longer/keep them on when talking. How do they get off charging your $20 extra? You can get a pack of 100 face shields on Amazon for $35 last I checked.
